Perry's History. (Historical Version) (G)
Perry Thatch is a brutal pirate known as "Burntbeard". He was once an officer in the Royal Navy but left after being marooned. After that he became a pirate and eventually found himself on the island where he met Captain Blackbeard. The two formed a partnership, sailing together for many years before Blackbeard's death. Since then Thatch has continued to sail the seas, looting ships and taking their cargo. His ship, the Queen Anne's Wrath, is one of the most feared vessels in the Caribbean.
Perry stood 5'5" tall and had a thick beard which covered much of his face. He wore a gold eye patch over his right eye and carried an axe. He was known to wear a brown coat laced with gold, and often wore a brown hat with a almost cartoonishly large red feather.
In 1723, Thatch was attacked by a Spanish vessel, and he managed to escape by jumping into the sea. He swam to the Spanish vessel, boarded it, and killed its captain. After killing the Spaniard, he returned to the Queen Anne's Wrath and set sail again. Unfortunately, the Spanish ship had been carrying a valuable cargo, so it was chased down by the British navy. During the chase, He was arrested and sent to prison, but escaped after three weeks. He spent several years sailing between Jamaica and Hispaniola, plundering ships along the way.
In 1728, Thatch came across a small island called St. Croix, which was home to a tribe of cannibals. They were very friendly towards him, and invited him to stay with them. For a time, he lived among them, and even fathered several children. Eventually, however, he decided to leave, and went back to his life of piracy.
He continued to sail the Caribbean for another few years, until he was finally caught by the British navy. He was imprisoned in England, where he served out the rest of his sentence. While in jail, he wrote a book about his adventures, entitled "A Voyage of Discovery and Adventure". The book was published in London in 1731.
After his release, he returned to his ship, and continued to sail the Caribbean. By 1735, he had become a wealthy man, and purchased a plantation on St. Thomas Island. He married a local girl named Elizabeth, and settled down to live a quiet life.
However, he soon realized that he couldn't retire completely. He still loved the thrill of battle, and the excitement of taking treasure from other ships. So he bought a new ship, and began sailing the Caribbean again. He continued to ply his trade for another decade, until he was finally caught by the British navy. He was taken to England, where he was tried for piracy.
During the trial, he claimed that he had never actually committed any crimes against the Crown. Instead, he argued that he had simply been defending himself against attacks from other pirates. He also pointed out that he had never stolen anything from the Crown itself.
The judge agreed with his argument, and acquitted him. He was allowed to return to his plantation, and continue living a peaceful life. He died peacefully in 1750, having lived a long and prosperous life.
