One day in class... (G)
A while ago I find myself butt numb looking at a test that I got a 3 on but our school board says "2 or 1" in order to not do it again. That’s right MEAP testing the ultimate unbridled horror. Anyways this time for some reason I really got into it and here we go:
Conformity:
People try to conform to the custom and behaviors of other peers. They try to conform to the standards of a particular group of people they know or what they perceive as the standards of a whole society. On the other hand we know nonconformists. People that try not to conform to anyone else’s standards.
The dictionary definition says that conformity is "Action or behavior in correspondence with customs, rules or styles" and yet no one really seems to know what that means.
Simply put conformity means that one is trying to "fit in" The biggest place to see this is in School. It is here that young minds begin to form along with individual personalities. Here also begins the introduction to "peer pressure"
A seeming rule of thumb is that those with stronger personalities tend to attract others. It is theses people that others look up to, admire and sometimes base their developing minds too. Others with this trait will use them plus peer pressure to conform people in order to be “cool” in the eyes of others. Conformity of this nature is often what leads people to smoke, drink, join gangs, even start to have sex as an incredibly young age.
Even now as I spend my final years here in high school. I can see people conforming in order to try and be cool, changing themselves to “fit in” acting, dressing, talking, walking a certain way in order to be accepted. These people “go with the flow” changing to someone’s wilm to still be hip, gangster, or god knows what else has been used. This is a major form of conformity.
Yet there are people that dare to challenge this. Those that forge their way against the flow. These that dress, walk, talk, and act to their own accord. These people are called “nonconformists” but in school their “freaks,” “weirdoes,” “losers” “un-cool” or “lame.” Whatever the label these people are who they want to be and not what someone else thinks they should be.
But this “Rebellion”comes with a price. Conferments often pick on, make fun of, even beat up those that refuse to change how they are in order to satisfy others. Sometimes they trip or finally give up and are swept downstream. Sooner or later however they will halt themselves and start again.
Why is this? What drives them to keep going? Why is it that throughout the torment they walk heads held high with a smile played across their lips. Why? What do the fights teach people that early on in life? That not bending to peoples will, will only bring them pain? Theses questions are asked by so few yet thought by so many. You must answer them by asking them yourself. That person that lies beneath the lies brought by conforming
Why is it that some conformists seek to destroy the non? Is it because they’ll feel better afterwards? Or could it be that… they are afraid of those with ideas that challenge them? Are that that scared or do they just want to conform those that wish to be themselves for the self victory? Again I cannot give you those answers. It is only fair that you form your own. Before I put this pencil down I have one last question, but in order to answer it you must first know a little more about myself:
My name is Brian. I am 21 years old and still in my last year of high school. To my friends I am Brian to others I’m known as Wolf. I’ve been teased, picked on, pushed, hit, kicked, things thrown at me, things taken or torn apart and yet I’ve only been in one fist fight. I’ve smoked and drank once but never did again. I do however enjoy a shot of Irish whiskey every now and again. I don’t spend my weekends getting stoned or “smashed.” I’m never “in-style” with my clothing. I’m not a “jock,” “prep”, “gangster”, “Goth”, “emo”, or “nerd” Yet I at the same time I’m all of them. I dress my own way, think, act and talk my own way. I listen to others ideas, thoughts and views, even take some of them to heart.
There is another “class” that I hold far above the rest . One that is perhaps the most looked down upon by conformists. Despite what the news, magazines, and a certain C.S.I. shows people, they are normal, decent hardworking, people that wouldn’t think twice about stopping to help someone in need. I am talking about “Furries” People that wish to have the traits of animals. Furries get the worst kind of flack from “Anti-Furrys,” extreme conformists that will resort to name calling, spamming, even posting peoples addresses in order to have a “fight” with one online then repost it in a public site to degrade them. Not every hybrid is bisexual. Not every single one of them are into bestiality. Their soul purpose is NOT to yiff every thing in sight or be involved in a “fur pile.” I should know more then anyone I happen to be a furry.
To honor my hybrid self I do wear a collar. This is not a “faze” or ”fad,” I am not calling myself a “dog” or to rebel. It represents a part of me that reminds myself that I am who I am and that no one controls my choises.
Now that you know a little more about me. Who am I? A conformist? A nonconformist? Freek? Rebel? You make a call but I know who I am.
I now pass this question on to you all here...
