I'm a little frustrated with myself right now. I've fully completed 3 out of 4 planned Kauros-related stories to accompany commissions and I can't seem to progress past 3.5. And what makes it worse is that I write for literally 2 to 3 hours every day, even after work when I'm knackered, but no matter how much time I spend pounding words I still can’t seem to progress the plot! I write the words, but the story doesn't go anywhere. And even when I do they frequently end up in 30000 word tomes I have to heavily edit to make bearable.

I've been reading some other people's writing, both in the furry community and out, and it always seems like the perfect balance of word count/detail and description vs plot progression. I don't know how they do it. I've tried writing other things (my Paradise of Monsters reboot), and I literally couldn't go past the first scene where the character is just smoking. If I write my way, it just ends up word heavy with thin plot. If I try to write theirs, I feel like I'm skimping on details that add verisimilitude, that I'm cheating the characters somehow, not doing them justice or it makes me feel like I'm rushing, which isn't enjoyable. I write as a hobby and to (hopefully) get people off. I don't want to make it feel like a chore.

Is it possible to write too much? I wonder if a fixed daily word count would help. Just airing some personal frustrations.
