I was just a boy, I remember I was 5 years old and uh I remember it clearly. It was early in the mornin, I always loved the feeling of those early mornings. The sun was barely rearing it’s head and there was cool air. Our room was a dim gold and everyone was still snoring, peaceful, calm. I decided to start my day early. My only plans were to go outside and enjoy playing with my friends and get into whatever adventure. It did happen eventually that day but this morning, this morning was so… special. Because when I went outside to feel the cool, breezy air…it was sunny but I also saw a thick white wall of clouds in the distance. It created such a view but I walked out further, tried to get a better view and I look to ma right and I saw this..beautiful gorgeous white cone in the distance with a rainbow beside it. I was in complete awe, I couldn’t look away for a second. It was so mesmerizing, i saw beautiful shades of white, gold, teal and lavender, and a full, vibrant rainbow. I won’t lie to you, it felt like heaven. I don’t remember this beauty making a sound, it looked calm, the rotation looked graceful. We stood like that for a good 20 minutes and then it dissipated. But after that moment I couldn’t get that thing off my mind, I told my parents all about it and they told me all these horrible stories about tornadoes, they told me they were monstrous and that they’re not safe. But it felt so odd for me to hear that. How can something so peaceful looking be so nightmarish? I tried to wrap my mind around it all day. That was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. After that day I held a persistent curiosity and amazement towards them, I didn’t know how to put all my feelings into words then and I don’t now. But…I do love tornadoes, always have. And some people will be confused at that. After everything I’ve seen but I don’t know what to tell ya. When I see them I still feel like that 5 year old boy at his home. I’m sorry but it’s the truth. But you know…my parents were right. It’s complicated.
