I apologize for not posting as much as I should have this year—a great deal of life has consistently gotten in the way, and I hope and pray that this will not happen in the months to come.

This was certainly a different holiday for me. My working on Christmas Eve was to be expected, although I did not expect a Christmas that was simultaneously white and green. With no family present, except for my parents, we went out to a Japanese restaurant, where my mother took advantage of a special deal to order three sushi rolls for us to share—the yellowtail roll was the winner of my informal taste test.

We returned home to pass out the cards and gifts. I received a trivia game centered around literature, two puzzles based on paintings by Vincent van Gogh, and—VERY unexpectedly—a 19th-century guide to Versailles. (For the book and the check, I plan to send a thank-you to my uncle ASAP!)

I hope that everyone else is enjoying—or at least, making the most of—today. I know that it is harder for some than it would be for others, particularly with so many negative emotions festering like a cancer at the moment, and in so many different places for who-knows-what reason. But whatever our everyday problems are, surely we can make an exception for today at least, and enjoy this time to spend with true friends and loved ones, and remind them all of how much they mean to us.
