Injustice 2 Guild - Interested?
General | Posted 8 years agoJust a quick question for friends and acquaintances who have or plan to get Injustice 2. I was planning to make a guild for us to join and probably game together easier. Just curious who's interested. Could also use some ideas for a name. X3
Also, on a tangent, I just wanted to let everybody know
Shiron91 is starting to stream his own gameplay and you should totally check him out. Great guy and I know he'd appreciate a bit of an audience. <3
On yet another tangent, the discussions about the Injustice 2 DLC silhouettes is pretty fun for speculation though I want to comment on two common requests/guesses that make me head-tilt a bit. If they happen, well, I'll eat crow.
1. Rorschach: First of all, Question or gtfo. Secondly, much as I love Vic, neither he nor his flanderized clone would bring much to a fighter.
2. Spawn: Sure, he'd work, but I'll never understand the desire to see him pop up in Netherrealm games. Then again, I never understood how he still occupies brain-space nowadays when most other byproducts of 90's comics trends have basically been left to the wayside. Sure he looks cool, but that's not surprising considering he's an amalgamation of several other, better characters. Spawn is a niche book nowadays and from my experience, many people who think Spawn is cool have never read an issue of his comic.

PS4 Games I'll be playing (and I'd like you to play with me)
General | Posted 8 years agoHey guys. Just wanted to give those of you I'm friends with a heads up. I plan to buy a PS4 in about two weeks. There's finally enough games out or launching soon to justify my getting the thing and I wanted to mention what I'll have for those who want to game later. Kinda passively trying to influence your future purchases *wink wink nudge nudge*. Pretty sure all of these will have multiplayer is some capacity save one. Bolded ones are ones I REALLY want to play with others.
-Bloodborne
-Doom
-Injustice 2
-Resident Evil 7
-Fire Pro Wrestling World
-Sengoku Basara 4 Sumeragi
-Dark Souls 3
-Marvel Heroes Omega
-Hitman
-Let It Die
Was rather surprised to learn Marvel Heroes was getting a console port. I can dig it. Sure it's a free-to-play game with all the expected drawbacks but the notion of a MMO hybrid of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Diablo sounds too delicious to pass up so I REALLY hope some of you guys give that a go. Free to play after all! I'm all over Nova, Moon Knight, Black Bolt and Taskmaster. Bet I can totally guess who a few friends would want to play. ;3

This decision is too close for me to make alone. =T

Injustice 2 Follow-up
General | Posted 8 years agoJust wanted to take a moment to say how cool is it that almost my entire wish list for this game are confirmed for the roster? I was hoping maybe one would make it, three at most, but six out of 8? Holy shit! I really have to give props to the guys who made the selections because this roster is arguably even more solid than the one from the last game right out of the gate and there are still 8 DLC characters to be revealed. The fact there is only one character inclusion I flat out dislike (Poison Ivy) is pretty impressive to me. I mentioned there were a few deal breaker characters in my wishlist journal almost a year ago but the sheer volume of new inclusions I like almost makes up for that.
I can't wait to get my hands on Darkseid and Swamp Thing with maybe a little Dr. Fate on the side.
Still, I should say I have high hopes for the DLC because while I wasn't expecting everybody from the last game to return, there are some seriously glaring omissions at the moment. Or rather, some replacements are questionable. Damian Robin is fine on his own but not at the expense of Nightwing. Deadshot is fine on his own but not at the expense of Deathstroke. Atrocitus in lieu of Sinestro is questionable but at least tolerable. No Martian Manhunter is frustrating sine he was the mot requested DLC last game. People clearly want the whole Justice League playable. Captain Marvel being absent while Black Adam is present is straight up absurd.
These are just grumblings really. I'll buy characters from the last game if it means getting the best DC fighter possible. This title really is looking to be pretty phenomenal. I'm just hoping NR doesn't go apeshit with guest fighters like they did with Mortal Kombat X. I can understand maybe two at most but fucking hell, don't waste slots on movie monsters or characters from MK.

PS4 Streaming question.
General | Posted 8 years agoSo due to me moving to a bigger space I already got a new tv and plan to so get a Playstation 4 by mid-summer. I really look forward to streaming games on a console for once where I don't have to worry about compatibility and all the other PC nonsense I can't wrap my head around. Either way, I planned to do some PS4 games as well as PS3 games available digitally so I had a couple questions:
1. Any recommendations of PS4 games you'd like me to stream? Doom and Bloodborne are certainties just fyi.
2. One game I plan to play is Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I love that game. When I stream it I'd like to use a themed team decided by friends here so please tell me in the comments who you'd like to see me use. Doesn't have to be one of the below. They're just examples.
Examples
-Fantastic Four
-Avengers
-X-Men
Here are playable characters to help you get an idea of what teams can be made.
-Spider-Man
-Captain America
-Iron Man
-Wolverine
-Thor
-Mr. Fantastic
-Thing
-Human Torch
-Invisible Woman
-Storm
-Colossus
-Iceman
-Moon Knight
-Deadpool
-Spider-Woman
-Elektra
-Daredevil
-Luke Cage
-Ms. Marvel
-Silver Surfer
-Black Panther
-Doctor Strange
-Ghost Rider
-Blade
-Nick Fury
-Hulk
-Hawkeye
-Nightcrawler
-Cyclops
-Magneto
-Sabretooth
-Dr. Doom
-Venom
It'll be great. MUA is such a fun game. It's also a great primer to the Marvel Universe back when it was good! Man, I really wish people would ask me more comic questions for journals. X3

Nova is cancelled
General | Posted 8 years agoAfter only seven issues it looks like this title is getting shit-canned.
I wish I could say I was surprised but I'm not. Go figure when you release a book with a virtually unknown creative team and next to no marketing or any kind of push, you're kind of setting yourself up for failure. I never expected this book to be a roaring success. I just wanted it to be good and thus far it has been. I have yet to see how it ends, but at the moment the current Nova has been one of only two Marvel titles I get genuinely enthusiastic to read. It's genuinely good and it's mended some old wounds still carried by Richard Rider fans like myself. It's been a fun ride that attempts to bridge the gap and bring together the old and new Nova camps together without disparaging either. That this may be the only Marvel book I know of that's actually TRYING to build a legacy without also shitting on it in the process. God knows that's laudable considering that isn't currently the standard operating procedure right now at the house of bad ideas.
I'm not really mad. Frustrated, sure, but not mad. Maybe a little confused too. After all, Nova's sales numbers weren't stellar but they were a hell of a lot better than abject shit like Squirrel Girl and Moon Girl which sell significantly worse yet are nearing the 20 issue mark. Sure, the digital market may be a factor but I have a hard time believing the disparity between digital and direct sales would be so drastic, but I'm just some random geek on the internet. What do I know?
Welp, if Marvel doesn't want my money, that's fine. If they want to keep enabling a crappy product and ignore fans by doing the many, many, MANY stupid things fans keep complaining about, that's their prerogative. I'm more than happy to let them continue to bleed customers. I wish they'd get wise, but what can you do? Besides, DC seems more than happy to pick up the slack nowadays. I'm sure they'd happily accept more of my business. Maybe I'll use that Nova money and try yet another one of their new books. It's led to some great reads so far.
Here's hoping the final Nova issue ends on a high note. And as always...

Anybody here paint miniatures? Got a question about desks.
General | Posted 8 years agoYeah, it's a weird title.
Anyway, I'm moving into a bigger room and am committed to turning it into my dragon cave of ultimate nerdiness. One nerdy endeavor I've wanted to get into is painting miniatures for Battletech and Warhammer 40K To that end I'm looking into getting an L-shaped desk where on one side I can have my PC for general use and then I can just rotate 90 degrees and be in front of my painting workbench.
I'm on a budget so I'm looking at fairly economical options. Easy to find, mass produced brands I can find at something like an Officemax, Target, Ikea, etc. are ideal. If anybody has any suggestions, I'm all ear-fins. =3

Ask Zera #12
General | Posted 9 years agoOoh, got a good little batch of inquiries for you today. Let us begin!
NackVixen asked: Super Robot Anime? Gundam, Gurren Lagann, Big O, Getter Robo.
I'm just assuming you want opinions in general. For me Big O leaves all others in the dust. It's probably my 2nd or third favorite anime of all time. Only the first season though. For me Big O II is an unholy abomination that never should have happened and should be shunned for the pretentious "Me too" Evangelion wannabe that it is.
Gurren Lagann is good but slightly overrated. Great animation, but pretty bog standard plot. It came out at the absolute best time though. Everything around that time was so up its ass with self-importance it that a back-to-basics giant robot show animated that well was a veritable adrenaline shot in anime.
Gundam...ehhh. I adore G Gundam and really like War in the Pocket and 08th MS Team but outside of that I never really got into the franchise. I always thought Robotech was better.
Never seen Getter Robo.
McSteel asked: What 5 game titles would you like to end up in the S-NES Classic, and for what reason?
Okay, well first let's acknowledge there's a metric shit-ton of great SNES games so the five I'm about to list are simply ones I want because they are games I personally adored and think are noteworthy enough they deserve to be considered classics. Truthfully though I do believe at least a few of them are contenders for some of the best games ever made. Here are the five I would hope to see.
-Super Metroid
-Megaman X
-Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
-Super Castlevania IV
-Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
GreyofPTA asked: Which bot you you think is the silliest/dumbest one ever made in the Transformers omniverse?
Oh god, there is no way in hell I can boil this down to just one thing. I'll ramble off a few things that piss me off or make me shake my head at least.
Bayformers are obviously shit. I can cut the first one some slack at least but the sequels are indefensible and there are three things in particular that really rustle my jimmies.
-Bumblebee: For kick-starting the trend of making the character mute sans obnoxious noises in other continuities.
-Skids and Mudflap: You know why.
-Dickbot the blender guy; just for fucking existing.
Insofar as concepts, Action Masters seemed really dumb to me. Transformers that don't transform is just killing one of the most fun things about the entire goddamn line, its raison d'etre. Just...why? Worse than that though were the Pretenders, transformers who hid in shells to pass as (mostly) fleshy entities, as if hiding in plain sight as vehicles wasn't good enough. Robots in disguise...in disguise just doesn't do it for me especially when your new disguises include things like two-headed Mitt Romney, a cyborg walrus, Ravishing Rick Rude, and a fuck-mothering car you could have just transformed into to begin with you damn idiot! There were also some little gimmick groups I thought were rather unimpressive like the Throttlebots, who I just saw as watered down Battlechargers, and the Sparkabots who just...spark. Yeah. Well, they were cheap at least I guess.
Now if we start delving into characters, there's a few I have a certain distaste for.
-The kids in the Unicron Trilogy shows. Crap shows, granted and almost all the characters suck but the meat midgets are the worst. Especially that fuck nugget (Shit-) Kicker.
-Slingshot is a dickhead who needs to get punched in the face.
-Huffer is a little bitch who needs to stop whining.
-Sky-Lynx is obnoxiously arrogant and conceited and what even the hell is he supposed to be!?
-Rodimus Prime is just such a wimp. Don't get me wrong, I like Hot Rod fine, but the moment the matrix goes in he loses all his endearing character traits and becomes a pathetic excuse of sad sack leader who just has to mope while Ultra Magnus puts the big boy pants on and gets shit done with Arcee and Springer.
-Beast Machines was abysmal all around but Nightscream was the cherry atop the shit sundae. The ultimate angsty, selfish prick of a teenager with the added "benefit" of looking like Michael Jackson after his 37th plastic surgery.
-Beast Wars had few truly horrible characters but Tigatron was the worst. In a war against a clearly hostile, practively violent enemy, his incessant hippy-dippy/one with nature/fighting is wrong shtick got immediately irritating.
-Snow Cat was...something else. In what to me is the all time worst Transformers cartoon, full of bad everything, including and especially acting, some voice director thought a good personality tick for someone was yodeling. Constant...horrible...ear gouging yodeling. There is no god.
I love getting questions, especially about nerdy stuff. Want to ask me a question?

The 90's weren't completely horrible.
General | Posted 9 years agoNow don't me wrong, the 90's in a lot of ways were just a watered down, re-heated regurgitation of what made the 80s friggin' awesome, but there were some good things: The cartoons, the video games, this commercial...

Roy Thomas gets it.
General | Posted 9 years agoAn interview worth reading I think.
Just some slight venting. I try not to ramble unsolicited but I just found out what the whisper was that made Thor "unworthy" and it's one of the most pants-shittingly idiotic things I can ever read in comic books. This article was topical in a way and really brightened the evening a bit. At it's core I feel like Roy is talking about how change is fine and a good thing to strive for but the important part is in the execution. I really hope these rumors about Marvel planning to ape DC's Rebirth success are true because Christ almighty the current shenanigans just aren't tenable any more! Thank fuck for Nova and Daredevil serving as anchors, albeit tenuous ones, to sanity in this goddamned fever nightmare.

Happy Birthday to a friend.
General | Posted 9 years agoJust wanted to take a moment to wish a Happy Birthday to a very important friend of mine who'll be turning a year older this week. Circumstances have made personal wishes an impossibility so it's all I can do to post this here and hope they see it. My heart is with you, hoping for your well being and that you can come back to us soon. Life feels so much more empty and joyless without you in it and every day is getting just a little bit harder to live. You are just that beautiful a person.

Make my CPU in Fire Pro Returns! (WIP)
General | Posted 9 years agoThis is a work in progress.
This journal has to do with Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. It's I game I've mentioned before not long ago. In a nutshell, I think it's the greatest wrestling game ever made and I think if you have a PS3 and the ability to download games from PSN, you should do yourself a favor and buy it. Hell, you can get download codes off amazon.com for a paltry $9.99!
Fire Pro Returns at Amazon
This is a follow-up to my last Fire Pro journal. In that one I laid out how to customize my look and my moves. In this journal I'll be laying out how to customize my CPU logic so you can fight me proper! This will all be Greek to anybody who doesn't have the game but for those who do this should be clear enough I hope.

Ask Zera #11
General | Posted 9 years agoYou guys have been slacking on the questions lately. Hope I get more. Would really love to talk about things I love to get my mind off stuff. Don't forget to look at the link at the bottom if you need ideas for things to ask about.
muddyness asked: What B movie do you think really got you into them and what do you think truly defines a B movie in either of these categories:
-so bad that it is good
-simply a good work of art
-so bad that it's just bad
and can you explain your answers using examples from your personal experience?
Well, to answer the first question, there's no single film that got me into B-movies specifically. There was however a show that I'm sure many people here are aware of by the name of Mystery Science Theater 3000. I'd catch episodes on ScyFi channel and occasional DVDs during high school. We've all seen cruddy movies that amused us before but MST3K is what really opened my eyes to just how fun they could be.
As for what truly defined a B-movie to me, I'm not sure this is a universal thing but I don't really think there are categories of B-movies as you broke them apart up there. To me, in order for a bad movie to be a "B-movie" means it pretty much has to be in that first category. To me a work of art is a good movie and a movie that's just plain bad is boring.
Now as for what makes a movie so bad it's good, that to me is something more specific. To me what makes a genuine B-movie is that the film had to be made with a genuine passion or at least a desire to make the best movie possible and utterly failing be to internal inconsistencies that make for comical juxtapositions. For a good example we can look at one of my all time favorite B-movies, Miami Connection. This movie was clearly a passion project made with the intention of having a positive message about thing like the value of friendship and togetherness and learning to love one another to make the world a better place and all that schmaltzy stuff. This heartfelt message is undercut by outright silly elements like the fact the heroes are part of a Tae-Kwon-Do rock band to flat out contradicting itself with the climax being said heroes violently murdering a squad of biker ninjas and relishing in the bloodshed and afterwords having the audacity to claim "Only through the elimination of violence can we attain world peace". It's hysterical because it's ridiculous.
Yet, despite utterly failing it's still a fun and endearing film because there was a desire to make something good there and that makes it endearing. I feel the genuine investment is a rather critical element to elevate a shitty movie into being so bad it's good because that spark gives you a feeling like "well at least you tried". It could be a muddled message or ridiculous shots or bad acting or budgetary constraints but the bottom line is I feel like there has to be something that undermines that genuine "vision" or whatever you want to call it because without you end up with something flat without ambition. That's a big reason why I don't care for movies like Sharknado and don't really consider them B-movies. They set out to be bad from the onset and they succeed, and that's no fun. There's no humor in that. Just as a theoretical example, what do you think would be funnier, a person who loses a hurdle race because they tripped over some of the hurdles or a person who loses a hurdle race because they were running into all the hurdles deliberately? That may not be great analogy but I hope it gets the idea across.
I love getting questions, especially about nerdy stuff. Want to ask me a question?

Looking for Pokemon trades in Gen 6
General | Posted 9 years agoJust wanted to do some IV breeding before transferring several monotype teams to poke bank but I have a few gaps that I need to fill. I'm looking for some pokemon with hidden abilities I can't get myself due to lacking friend safaris. If you're willing to trade one with me, please comment. Here are the ones I need.
-Venipede with Speed Boost
-Staryu with Analytic
I'm not worried about IV or egg moves or anything. I can take care of that myself so long as I have access to the hidden abilities. Any help is much appreciated.

Reina Galaxia entrance music?
General | Posted 9 years agoHeyo peeps. Just wanted some opinions. Been trying to think what a good entrance song for my wrestle-sona. Got some ideas but can't quite decide. Was hoping you guys could tell me which you like most and maybe suggest one yourself. Bear in mind they could hypothetically be edited to the good parts to make for better entrances. Also don't forget to look at my featured pic if you need to remind yourself what my personality as her is. Here's youtube links.

Got a nerdy two-fer today!
kay-dee667 asked:
1.) So Reina Galaxia decides to form her own wrestling stable like The Four Horsemen or the nWo, or at least a tag team like D-Generation X. Who would she partner with, and what's the name of the team? =3
2.) For Battletech, which do you prefer? A squad of slow heavy-hitting mechs or fast-moving strikers?
1. Kind of a tricky one to answer because the name would largely depend on who she was leading (and she would be leading, make no mistake). I don't know if she'd go for a huge stable, though lording over one would be in character. However she at the very least would absolutely form a trio. That's the luche libre fan in me but I love a good trios match. I don't have any specific teammates in mind but I do have personality types and styles in mind that I think would make for a good team dynamic. Since Reina is mostly a powerhouse I'd definitely want one teammate to be a dedicated technician and the other to be a high flyer with some dirty tricks. Personality wise, one would be a straight-laced, devoted subject of Reina and the other would be a conniving schemer of dubious loyalty. If this sounds familiar it wouldn't surprise me. I long decided if Reina was part of a trio it would be in the same vein as the holy trinity of Decepticons: Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream. Not identical, but similar.
2. I'm definitely fan of the big boomsticks, no question about it. I am after all a Lyran Commonwealth loyalist. Generally I'm not a fan of light mechs. There's a few I like, such as the Wolfhound and Jenner, and the class definitely has it's place, but I prefer having something with a little more punch to it if given the choice. My favorite Battlemechs tend to be assault and heavy class. There's several medium mechs I love too but they tend to be about as fast as heavies and are either sturdy, solid troopers or something just capable of bringing a lot of hurt. If I want a harasser or something more nimble to support the bigger boys on my lance I'd spring for a quicker medium like a Griffin or a Trebuchet. That said, it's fun to mix it up and do things like set battle value limits and/or have mechs randomly chosen by rolling on the official or fan-made random assignment tables to determine your lance and making it work somehow. It's a strategy game after all. Just heaven help you if you somehow get stuck having to field an Assassin.
Now these are the kind of questions I like to get! Nice and dorky. Keep them coming everybody! <3

Got two today from somebody.
NomadicObserver asked: Since some strong science is in comic books, which specific superpower would like to become real by science or technology?
What do you love about inflation and would get inflated (and how big)?
Just one superpower? Oh god oh man...oh god oh man! This is actually pretty tricky for me to nail down since there's so many awesome powers out there. If I had to boil it down to just one thing I'd probably say I'd settle for a Green Lantern ring. Make anything I can imagine out of light, intergalactic travel, and the real kicker, flight. Having the powers offered by being endowed with the Nova Force would be pretty rad in the same vein. All the same space stuff but gravimentric powers instead of light constructs. Both are good and I'd take either one. I gotta have flight though. I've always wanted to be able to just fly so I'd settle for a Legion Flight ring. Now if I were to throw out runner-ups I wouldn't say no to super speed, healing factor, extreme durability, the ability to "Hulk out". If we want to get ridiculous I'd gleefully take the Power Cosmic or the Omega Effect. I can only imagine how much fun I'd have with those.
As for inflation, I answered this before back in Ask Zera #1 and that's still the best answer I have regarding the matter. As for how big? Well, if it's inflation in the style of art done by some of my best friends, the sky is the limit...until I outgrow the sky...then the galaxy...and so on and so on. Cut me some slack. I'm a dragon! Dragons always want more. ;3
Remember to note me the questions. And be sure to check that link at the top. Really itching to answer some stuff that falls into those categories. Particularly Transformers and Battletech. <3

Does anybody have an extra $600 lying around?
General | Posted 9 years agoBecause I saw this earlier today and got a vicious nerd-boner.
http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=SSC11353&mode=retail
I actually saw this last week and had no idea this was a recent statue. Also it's a damn fine example why you just shouldn't mess around with the vast majority of Jack Kirby designs. He pretty much nailed them the first time around.
*Glares at Jim Lee.* >8C
Random tangent, it's a life dream to have a designated show room for my collectibles some day. Shelves and Detolf glass cases loaded with action figures, statues and transformers and maybe the odd art piece frames here and there. I may be a dragon but I've no intention of sleeping on my hoard of treasure thank you very much. =P

Idea: Furry Fire Pro Wrestling Tournament at Anthrocon?
General | Posted 9 years agoSo I somehow managed to spend a majority of the day doing nothing but tweaking CPU Logic and simulating matches in Fire Pro Returns today. For those of you who haven't played this fine wrestling game, not only are you allowed to customize your character's look and movelist. You are also allowed to customize its behavior when controlled by the CPU. It's actually a ton of fun in this game to pit CPUs against each other and watch them go at it. There's no telling how the match with turn out and it's fun to see how your custom wrestler does to what you're aiming for, going back to tweak it, and then sim another match.
This got me thinking. It's a pie in the sky sort of thing but wouldn't it be awesome at Anthrocon to get a bunch of people to make custom wrestlers (sent to me in advance for prep), and then have a bunch of tournaments where we watch our creations go through tournaments while controlled by CPUs? It would be kind of like watching a real wrestling match crossed with a proper gaming tournament but with extra excitement since nobody knows for sure how it'll go down. There could be singles, tag team, trios, cage match, battle royal, etc. It would be awesome!
Granted, this idea isn't terribly feasible for a whole slew of reasons. But still, fun to imagine. And getting more people to play Fire Pro is always something to hope for. Honestly for anybody with a PS3 I'm acquainted with I'm very nearly tempted to just hand out digital download codes just to spread the love. It's dirt cheap on amazon and doesn't take up much space. Ah well, doubt it'll happen but it's fun to imagine.
Here' have a match. Still the best wrestling game series ever.

Zamtrios, without question. I love winter so the element fits and I already have a huge soft spot for sharks so it only seems like a natural fit!

What? Why are you looking at me like that?

Oh yeah, there's also that one other little reason.

Richard Rider is back and it's good. <3
General | Posted 9 years agoI've talked before about Richard Rider and how he's a character that's very important to me personally for a few reasons. I've expressed disdain at the gross disrespect Marvel has treated him and his fans with. I've also expressed severe dissatisfaction at a vast majority of Marvels current creative decisions and overall output. So, when it's announced that Rich was returning under these circumstances, being handled by an artist I've never seen and a comedy writer who I never heard of, can you blame me for having rock bottom expectations. I was prepared for the worst.
I was completely unprepared for what I got.
Rich has returned...proper returned. He's not a bum, he's not a nazi, he's not a teenager or token meant to pander or a transparent gimmick to bump sales for a month. He's Richard Rider and he's back.
The first issue was rather ho-hum but in the second issue...man the second issue. Rich took center stage and everything just felt so right. His voice was pretty much spot on. He eluded authority when needed but still had that Nick Fury brand of devil-may-care swagger. He was compassionate and impressionable to others, tremendously frustrated that there was another civil war and stoically mournful about his dad dying while he was away. It was all just...right. Add to this a lot of indicators that the guys behind this book did their research and made more of a point referencing the DnA era rather than any of the cosmic abortions written by that hack Bendis. That certainly gives the right impression Then there were the other touches like Rich's helmet being like cloth when not used as well as a visit to Knowhere and a wonderful reunion with Cosmo (who was also spot on by the way). There was also a really touching scene in a bar at the end that I don't want to spoil.
Also worth mentioning is this book achieved the Herculean task of making me not proactively despise Sam Alexander. This was largely by merit of not writing him like an obnoxious, smarmy little shit. He's actually kind of okay and the fact he actually shows respect and a degree of reverence and care towards Rich goes a long way to making him seem like an actual decent character for once. I'm liking the chemistry between the two and it's pretty much the greenhorn and mentor dynamic I would have hoped for. I've always been of the mind there's no reason for there to only be one Nova Centurion. How many Green Lanterns are there? These are good first steps to rebuilding the Nova Corps.
I also want to go out of the way to mention the humor in this book is actually pretty good for the most part. Rather than Marvel's modern tack of hipsterific, self-aware irony, it's clever, comes from actual situations in the story and is wonderfully dry at times. Look at these following panels in which Sam takes Rich to Amadeus Cho to determine if he's a fake.
https://cdn.bleedingcool.net/wp-con.....64-600x470.jpg
https://cdn.bleedingcool.net/wp-con.....02-600x583.jpg
I really enjoyed this exchange. I may be projecting a bit I feel like this is taking the piss out of Marvel's approach to events and ham-fisted handling of legacy characters. However there's also a good natured ribbing of the hardcore Rich fans, not at all derisive like some other books commenting on fans I can recall. There's also some depth there too though in that it really highlights just how cloistered modern Marvel is from it's own history and for that matter, just about anything past Earth's orbit. There's more moments like this in the book that almost make if feel like something of an olive branch to disaffected Marvel fans like myself, as if the writer is saying "I know where you're coming from and I want to let you know we don;t want to pander. We just want to tell a good story here". Again, could just be me getting swept in the moment and projecting but that's my initial gut reaction.
Granted, the book is only two issues in and there are a few flaws. I'm not a big fan of the art, but it's growing on me. There's some pretty serious unanswered questions but it's easy to let those slide because the writing has made it very clear that they'll be answered in due time but right now the focus is character work, building a relationship and setting the tone. That aside, there's always the chance the book can go south or just get swept into another one of Marvel's seasonal bullshit events and that's assuming they don't relaunch it next year when the issue numbers start nearing double digits. I could write a whole journal on the myriad ways Marvel seems determined to ruin their brand and alienate their audience but I'll spare you guys that unless someone asks for it.
That nonsense doesn't matter at the moment though because, for now, my hero is back, he's being treated with the respect he deserves, and I think this is the happiest a comic has made me feel in a while. I can't remember the last time my eyes watered up like this. I try to avoid multi-paragraph journals like this but I'm just hope happy right now I had to share it. <3
For the Corps!
*Rich and Sam arrive at Knowhere. After Rich gives Cosmo a treat...*
Cosmo: Spasiba! You were always favorite Nova.
*Awkward silence because Sam is present*
Cosmo: You good Nova too.
Sam: Thanks.
Cosmo: He is better Nova.
Sam: Okay.
Cosmo: Ripped Annihilus' guts from throat.
Sam: Heard about that. Yeah.
Way to not pull your punches Cosmo! XD

Let's talk more Battletech! Questions, stories, etc.
General | Posted 9 years agoGaw-dammut I wanna get this hype train going already! I love me some big chunky robos and while my beloved Transformers are doing just fine, the Battletech franchise needs more lovin', especially since 2017 seems like it's going to be a very kind year to the brand.
Come on comments! Lets talk about stuff. Feel free to tell stories, but more importantly, ask questions! I realize a great many of you probably know very little,if anything about Battletech so if you're curious, ask about it! It's doesn't need to be anything deep or super specific. If you have no idea what Battletech is or is all about, ask! It'll be fun. Ask opinions, ask about facts, mechs, factions, history, units, etc.
And I'm not accepting that excuse of "I don't know anything and don't think I can contribute". Lets go nuts! All aboard the hype train! 8D
And in the highly likely scenario the comments section is yet again a digital graveyard, at least walk away from this journal with a giggle.

Please guys, help me out here.

So far only three people I know of have helped get word out about this thing. I don't expect everybody to love Battletech, but it would really mean a lot to mess a personal favor if anybody reading these journals would post their own journals or do something to help spread the word. There's less than a month until the cut-off date and none of these items are anywhere near the thresholds needed for them to go forward with production.
Remember, these products don't exist yet. They need to meet a certain number of pre-orders before they even go through with manufacturing so pre-ordering is critical.
Thank you those of you who already helped. I hope more will pitch in to the effort.
