So there's a Deadpool game coming out.
General | Posted 13 years agoNo, I'm not joking. See for yourself.

I dunno. On one hand being a Deadpool fan the fact he of all characters is getting a game made in the first place is pretty sweet. I expected to several things based on Avengers, X-men and Spider-man before Deadpool ever got the gaming limelight. I'm also really happy to see High Moon Studios developing it. After seeing the job they did on War for Cybertron and how good Fall of Cybertron are looking I've got faith these are the guys to make action games based on existing licenses.
On the other hand, and this is kind of nit-picky, I'm dismayed they seems to be basing Deadpool off the Daniel Way version. You know, the version with shallow characterization that's basically a walking punchline with voices in his head who spouts juvenile, only sometimes funny humor with no context. Yeah, that one. Also, his voice is all wrong. He sounds too handsome here. A character once described Deadpool's voice as sounding like he'd been chugging gasoline and gravel. This voice sounds way too "handsome" if you will.
We'll see I guess.

Need a laptop. Donations? Advice?
General | Posted 13 years agoOkay, this is a rough journal to post but I'm going to swallow my pride and ask anyway. I'd appreciate people reading the whole journal.
I'm in a bit of a money pinch. In that one journal I wrote a while ago I mentioned some life hardships. To elaborate my job at that time closed down without informing anyone so I was unemployed for all of April and some of May. Considering I have loans to pay as well as a few assorted medical fees I was basically hemorrhaging money from my savings account. Thankfully I was able to secure two jobs before summer and can say I'm happily employed at the moment.
Here's the problem. It started off with me getting good hours and pay but I was informed after getting back from Anthrocon that we are now heading into the "slow season" and my income had taken a hit. Neither job wants to give me many hours so as to keep payroll down. I'm making just barely enough to cover monthly bills with a little extra for gas. This was sprung on me out of nowhere and I'm scrambling to adjust my budget appropriately. I basically have little to no disposable income.
Now, my current laptop is a 7 year old dinosaur and currently on it's last legs. I've done as much patchwork as I possibly can to the best of my abilities but it's on it's way out and I need a new one I can't do any thing work or acting related without one.
I know it's a ridiculous thing to ask on the internet but would anybody be willing to help out and pitch in some money so I can work a new laptop into my budget somehow? I already sold a few dozen games from my collection but I'm still a ways off. I don't need a Macbook or some Alienware gaming monster. Right now I'm just looking at various Acer Aspire notebooks for $500 dollars and less. Just a stop-gap laptop that just does decent work and will last a couple years.
Now of course I don't expect anybody to actually be willing to pitch in. Everybody has their problems right now and nothing makes me special or more deserving. I'm just another anonymous asshole on the internet asking for money and I feel selfish for doing so, but honestly I don't know what else to do at the moment. I'm not claiming this to be an emergency or farming for sympathy or pity or any of that. It's not a vital matter of survival or anything. It's just something that would make my life a little easier.
I hate asking for help and am embarrassed to do so, but is anybody willing to help me out? Feel free to note me if you are.

Are you playing Virtua Fighter yet?
General | Posted 13 years agoShow of hands, I want to know.
Seriously, more people need to get on this game. At 15 dollars it's a steal. You know I actually on a whim tried playing a few matches of UMvC3 tonight. I just couldn't do it. It was fucking disgusting. I just couldn't stomach the random bullshit this time. I know the frenzy pace is part of the fun but after the extremely calculating and fast paced mind games in Virtua Fighter it felt like I was playing a grossly inferior game. It was like watching Michael Clayton and they watching Revenge of the Fallen. I know it's opinion but goddamn it felt awful.
Virtua Fighter! Hands up!

Someone need's to break Bendis' hands
General | Posted 13 years agoOr some other violent action that renders him unable to write anything.
I've gone on before about how much I dislike Brian Michael Bendis, largely due to him being a terrible writer after Daredevil and raping my beloved Moon Knight in the ass before shitting on his face. Well, now it's stepped up to a new level.
Bendis may have his sights set on Cosmic Marvel and may write a new Guardians of the Galaxy...
https://youtu.be/umDr0mPuyQc
Goddammit Bendis you ruin Moon Knight annow you're going to ruin the Cosmic scene too? Why are you targeting the stuff I love? Bendis at his best was writing for solo, street level heroes. His tenure with Avengers is proof he can't do the team dynamic to save his life and if he can't even write a decent story for an Earth-based team then how the hell are we supposed to believe he can do a cosmic one?
Noting is set in stone yet and Bendis has been very hush about what's happening after Avengers vs. X-men. Still, from what I understand, at the end of Avengers Assemble #3 there was a big bad behind the actions of the villains in the previous articles and it turned out to be Thanos. Now Marvel is teasing the return of a team "everybody was clamoring for" and the only one that makes sense to me is the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Here's the problem. Last time we saw him Thanos was trapped in a collapsing universe with Nova and Star Lord. All were presumed dead. Now assuming this is the actual Thanos, are Nova and Star Lord okay or is Bendis just forgetting that pesky continuity thing all over again? Oh god! If Nova is okay does that mean Bendis would write Nova?!
*Vomits*
If this does happen then hopefully a more talented writer will take the reigns. That's the only good way this can end well. Even then, if another writer picked it up after Bendis chances are it would either be Matt Fraction or Jeph Loeb. Either way we all lose.
Excuse me while I crawl into the fetal position and hold "Infinity Gauntlet" close to my body...

"It's not very good."
General | Posted 13 years agoYou ever hear a talented artist say this after posting something? Someone once said to me when an artist deliberately shares art and says this they're basically saying "Hello, I'd like to waste your time".
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Seriously, I've seen some crazy talented people spout this more often then they have any right to and I sometimes wish I could slap them and ask what the fuck they're talking about. I'd kill to be able to draw like some of these people. I know good artists are critical of their own work but goddamn can't you be happy with something about the work?
I bring this up because after AC I was crazy inspired to try and pick up drawing again. Well after about a week of trying to do a simple sketch with no colors or shading I've effectively accomplished nothing. I scrapped my first try tonight because it looked like shit with all the eraser marks and it generally looked wrong. Now I started again and I can barely get it started.
But you know what, I'm going to stick with it. I'm going to be bitching and screaming and hating myself every second because because I won't think it meets my unrealistic expectations of myself but goddammit when I finish I'm take some pride that I stuck it out and maybe I'll learn something from it. I'm going to love the fuck out of myself for getting it done.
I don't know if there's a point to this. I guess I just need to vent my frustrations from my ongoing attempt to draw. I don't know how some people do it.

If I've seemed less active, here's why.
General | Posted 13 years agoOkay. I realize I haven't exactly been around as much as I used to. I didn't want to talk about it back then but now things have changed a bit so I feel I should get everybody who cares up to date.
If I'm seemed quiet or distant it's because real life has been something of shit-storm of misfortune for the last few months up until late spring. I'm not going to go into details but suffice to say times have been very very hard. Things were on the rebound about a month ago but they might go sour again. I don't know.
I don't talk about it here because honestly there's enough drama on the internet let alone here on FA and making a spectacle of oneself while rambling off life's woes always struck me as a desperate plea for attention. I don't need that because I have good friends who I can confide in privately. You know who you are.
Just know that if I ever go quiet for a bit and don't seem especially active online it's not because I've forgotten or am ignoring anyone. It's simply that things could be better on my end and I prefer not to let that bullshit spill out and sour other people's time online.
Huge thanks to those of you who have been supporting me emotionally when I get down. You're like family to me and I don't know what I'd do without you.

Virtua Fighter isn't that hard.
General | Posted 13 years agoAt least not as hard as some people would have you believe.
I get kind of dismayed when people going around saying Virtua Fighter games are the deepest, most difficult fighters out there. The main reasons are when you build up a game's difficulty it can scare people away, especially in fighters, and also because these claims mistake depth for difficulty.
Virtua Fighter is easily the deepest 3D fighter out there and it is challenging to get good at but it's not some monolithic undertaking to play it because the game is actually pretty simple from a control perspective. There's only three buttons and move for move Virtua Fighter has far less to memorize than the likes of Tekken or Soul Calibur. So where does this perception of immense difficulty come from?
If I were to guess I would say the biggest factor is Virtua Fighter's complete and utter lack of flashy gameplay mechanics. There's no super moves, no dragon punches, no roman cancels or anything of the like. Just the characters and their moves. Because of this incredibly minimalistic approach, frames are god and extremely basic fighter concepts like advantage and disadvantage become supremely important. If your opponent blocks your slow attack you can't count on an invincible move to save your ass. There's no universal counters or guard impacts to get the momentum back in your favor. Button mashing doesn't work and will get you killed.
Many fighters, especially newer ones, enable players by having tools that really mitigate the penalties of their mistakes. Even if the player barely understands the finer details of the mechanics at work in a game they can still manage victories. Virtua Fighter demands at least a rudimentary understanding. Knowledge is key in this game. You need to always be aware of your options both offensively and especially defensively. Defense is extremely proactive and requires much more active participation than simply holding a button.
However once you get that knowledge I believe Virtua Fighter is the best fighter out there. It's such a pure fighter and there's no bullshit to enable "cheap" victories. The game is so finely tuned that tiers are practically nonexistent except at the absolute highest levels of play and even then it's largely irrelevant. Though it may seem slow at first it's actually probably the fastest due to how much you need to consider at any given moment and how you feel to best react. I don't want to go into to much detail but basically Virtua Fighter's depth comes mostly from it's finely tuned but very simple design enabling all players to fight on an even playing field. In the end victory boils down to who played the smartest at least much more so than other fighters.
I don't think I'm going to hold that contest. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of interest. Still, I'd like to help spread the Virtua Fighter love to some extent.
The following is an exceptional tutorial by DandyJ, the man also responsible for the amazing Beginner's Guide to King of Fighters. Yes, the video is over two hours long but Dandy covers everything in extremely easy to understand language and in great detail. Also, expect an AC recap sometime in the next 24 hours. Not going to go crazy in depth mind you.

Back from Anthrocon
General | Posted 13 years agoJust got home about 30 minutes ago. I'll go in depth about the con later. For now I'll just say I'm about ready to crash because Anthrocon was easily one of the greatest weekends of my life. The weekend went by far, far too fast and I was in no hurry to leave.
Next year I'm getting the room reserved through Monday.

Anthrocon Advice?
General | Posted 13 years agoSo yeah, Anthrocon is coming up and it's going to be my first year going. Got the hotel and flight booked and everything. Now, I'm no stranger to conventions but thus far they've all been of the "Anime" variety. Frankly I don't know what to expect at AC. I was hoping some of my friends here who have gone before could impart some wisdom.
The biggest things I'm wondering is what kind of merchandise is sold in the dealer room. Obviously the Artist Alley is where to go for the art so the Dealer Room is a big enigma to me. For that matter hat in general are the average prices of commissions in the Artist Alley. Since this is a convention I'm expecting cost to be on the higher end. And should I bring references?
Also, historically how good is the game room? What kind of titles are usually on display and what are the most prevalent consoles? I'm strongly considering bringing my fight stick. I been on hiatus from fighters for at least a month now.
I did see that Blazblue tourney. Kinda gets my blood boiling. Haven't been in a BB tourney in over a year so I should brush up.
So yeah, any advice is appreciated.

Looking for a crew to go into space.
General | Posted 13 years agoI love science fiction. I grew up on Star Trek: The Next Generation so space has always had a certain appeal to me. Exploring the universe and what not. Well, as of late I've been playing through an RPG called Infinite Space for the second time. The game is in some ways a space nerd's wet dream. You get to but ships and customize them almost entirely. Internal layout, facilities, weaponry, name, just about everything short of it's actual appearance. You even get to customize the crew.
So I had this idea on the first playthrough that popped in my head again. What if I designed a ship that I'd be the captain of? What if I designed a uniform and had a commission drawn. Then I got this crazy idea of what if I got a pic of an entire crew and all the senior staff were buddies of mine?
It's an unrealistic notion but all the same I think it's fun to consider. Who knows, maybe some day such a pic can happen. So what the hell? I'll list staff positions needed for a space-faring vessel. If you're interested in one leave a comment below. Here are the spots. I'll update them when I can.
Captain - Zero
First Officer - ?
Chief Helmsman - Ryuakira
Chief Navigator - ?
Artillery Chief - ?
Chief Communications Officer - Demonfan
Chief Engineer - ?
Chief Medical Officer - ?
Chief Science Officer - ?
Chief of Security - ?
Head Chef - ?
This isn't entirely first come first serve. I'm only going to put people I know on the list so keep that in mind. If two buddies gun for the same position though first one gets dibs unless the second can come up with a better argument. Consider it like an interview for the job. XD

Zero's Seven Days of JoJo.
General | Posted 13 years agoYou know what, I feel like talking about JoJo. This is something I've been meaning to do for a while but kept on putting off over and over but I've finally committed to try and do it. I'm going to try and make one journal every day for the next week discussing a story arc in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure starting with the first and ending with the seventh.
I'll talk about some of the strengths, the weaknesses and my overall opinions to be sure but I'd also like you guys to give me some feedback on what else you guys think I should talk about. Should I do a brief synopsis or cover the plot entirely in a nutshell for those who haven't read it. JoJo isn't especially popular outside Japan so I know plenty will probably be in the dark.
So what else would you guys like me to cover in the upcoming journals?

The end of the Avengers film
General | Posted 13 years agoWARNING: SPOILER ALERTThis is a journal about Thanos in future films. That either hooks you or it doesn't. I hope it opens some discussion. I'm kind of counting on my fellow comic book enthusiasts to pitch in.
So, it's been a week since The Avengers was released here stateside and decimated several box office records and almost everybody has seen it and knows everything about it. Honestly that spoiler bar up top was just a formality. So, everybody I'm sure stuck around for the teaser in the credits revealing the man behind Loki's actions, none other than Thanos, the Mad Titan himself. There he was, grinning at the camera and foreshadowing his being in a future film. Perhaps even the Avengers movie should one get made.
Now, obviously Thanos is especially well known to the general masses. He hasn't seeped into the public consciousness like other comic villains such as Magneto or The Joker. Some people I've spoken to either had no clue who he was or mistook him for a Skrull. For the sake of any readers who'd like to know more about Thanos I've embedded a brief primer covering the character's more memorable exploits. It doesn't get into the finer details of his characterization but you'll get a broad sense of what he's about.
https://youtu.be/jlBbOWmiyuQ
Thanos is above all else a villain on the cosmic scene much more so than strictly on Earth. I love Marvel's cosmic stories and characters and Thanos is one of my favorite villains so I would love to see him in the movies at some point. That being said I can't help but have some serious reservations about him making any future appearances.
My apprehension largely stems from knowing that Thanos is serious heavy duty villainy. This is someone whose actions have galaxy wide repercussions. The guy killed half the population of the universe. That really says it all and I'm of the mind that cosmic level threats are extremely difficult to make work in live action films. Either they fall flat or they seem too silly or there isn't enough time to properly convey how threatening they are. For good examples look at Parallax in the recent Green Lantern film or the Silver Surfer and Galactus in the Fantastic Four sequel. Characters like this are too big in concept to do any justice in movies when you're trying to tell the story about a hero, especially when they're fairly local to Earth.
Now if there is some set-up that's a different thing. Part of the reason I thought The Avengers worked so well was it had the benefit of five other movies to establish the characters allowing the film to jump headlong into the team dynamic. If the movie had to explain who all the avengers were and why they were there it wouldn't be nearly as good. Thanos needs the same build-up.
I can imagine this being perfectly doable. Almost every individual Avenger is getting their own sequel and I think Thor is one avenue to give Thanos more exposure. Thor has dabbled in cosmic territory a bit more than the other guys and from a film plot perspective he makes perfect sense. In the Avengers, Thanos was using Loki as a proxy to get the Cosmic Cube (Tessawhatever the fuck the movie called it). Both Loki and the cube are now is Asgard. But Thanos is more a schemer than a hands on guy so he can act through another villain to get the cube just for the Thor film while getting more exposure. I think Hela would be an excellent choice. She's a Thor villain fans want to see and the Asgardian goddess of death which works well for Thanos. I've also heard rumors that there's a Guardians or the Galaxy film in the works. That could be another great avenue to set up Thanos as a seriously threat.
Now even though it may be doable for Thanos tho be in the next Avengers I'm still not sure it's ideal. Realistically if these Avengers had trouble with this little invasion it's safe to say Thanos would curb-stomp their teeth in should he decide to attend to them personally. That's another reason I feel he should be held off for a potential third film. In addition to setting him up it would allow the Avengers to possibly grow their ranks and maybe get some new tricks to better hold of similar invasions.
Finally,I'd hope the film makers would have the good sense to do this but please for the love of god leave the Infinity Gauntlet out of this. When comic fans think of Thanos the Infinity Gauntlet is usually they next thing they think of. You know, that artifact that killed half the universe. It's too much for a movie. I don't care if it was a visible prop in the first Thor, leave it alone. Don't go for the bait. Hell, if Thanos get's his hands on the cube that'll be plenty.
Joss Whedon has the option to come back for a second Avengers film and has said if he did he's want it to be a more low key, character driven film. Think Empire Strikes Back after A New Hope. If there were ultimately an Avenger trilogy this sort of plotting could work really well but again Thanos seems horribly inappropriate for a movie focused on characterization. Save him for a bombastic third installment to close the series. With that in mind I had two questions for you guys.
First, if not Thanos, who would you like to see as the villain in the next Avengers film? Some of the more common names I've heard are Ultron and Kang the Conqueror. What do you think?
Second, should Thanos be created using CGI or practical effects and either way, who do you think should be the actor to bring this death-obsessed villain to life?
Rambling journal I know but I love discussing this kind of hypothetical material. Have at it guys!

Just got back from The Avengers
General | Posted 13 years agoI wasn't planning to but after seeing this I got to record my thoughts on it. It was damn good. Possibly the best superhero film ever made. I'm not committing to that statement though as that might be my Marvel bias talking. I watched this as a Marvel fan and a viewer who watched all the films leading up to this. It's impossible for me to approach from the perspective of a movie goer ignorant of the source material and lead-up.
Still...damn good movie. I'll tell you more tomorrow.

Wanted to share a little something cool with you guys. Little hobby I have. Like gaming I enjoy activities that require some extent of manual dexterity something I picked up on a little over a year ago was a little something called Contact Juggling. You probably know what it is even if you don't know it. Seen Labyrinth? Yeah, that thing David Bowie does.
I practice when I can but goddamn if it isn't really effing hard to do. At best I can barely do the most basic stuff. Still, vids like this serve as motivation to improve because even though I suck at it it's damn fun.
Just goes to show practice makes perfect.

Those of you who like Zero Point
General | Posted 14 years agoHey guys. I'm three reviews into the ongoing review series I plan to keep up for as long as I can and now I have a teeny tiny favor to ask of those of you who listen. If you dig my reviews and like what I'm doing would you be so kind as to spread the word a bit. Just write a brief journal mentioning what I do and how you feel about it. A few links to the reviews wouldn't hurt either.
I don't expect too many people to do this but that's okay. I enjoy making them regardless so I hope you enjoy listening.

UMvC3: Amazing Magneto Gameplay
General | Posted 14 years agoI recently picked up Magneto in UMvC3. I suck with him for now but I really want to get better with him and vids like this are just more inspiration.

I mean Jesus Christ on a crouton! For a sec it looked like MvC2. And damn, I don't know which is more absurd, those relentless tri-dash Mag Blasts or that nasty as fuck mix-up with Iron Man. XD
The team I've been messing around with is Dorm/Mag/xx. I'm having a tricky time deciding who to run third. A good lock-down would be nice obviously. I know Mags get's a lot out of Sentinel as does Dorm, but as amazing as Drones are I suck with the robot and he always ends up feeling more like a liability, especially when he's put in the anchor slot which he sucks at.
I was thinking maybe running Ammy or Dante. I'm inexperienced with both but from what I gather they're both fair anchors. The questions are which one is better and how does Weasel Shot compare to Cold Star?
I'd love some feedback from my fellow Marvel players.
On a different note I'll be wrapping up a couple more Zero Point reviews. Sorry they're taking so long but theater rehearsals have been taking up my time and a rather unfortunate occurrence some of you know about has forced me to focus my time on other matters. They're coming though.

Zero is Top Tier
General | Posted 14 years agoDon't know how many people keep tabs on Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 here but I do and in the tier discussions the general consensus is that Zero is among the best characters in the game if not the absolute best. Many seem to favor the latter. I'm inclined to agree. Either way this seems to have spawned a hilarious meme. An image Macro to be precise. Check it out.

Do you hate Michael Bay?
General | Posted 14 years agoThen do the internet a favor and spread this video. Let's try to put a dent in the studio's wallet so nobody ever hires this talentless hack again and save the characters of our childhood.

Turning the TMNT's into aliens...fuck this guy. Make a journal, embed this video, spread the word. This bullshit needs to stop.
-edit-
To the people who say this isn't likely to work I have this to say. So what? Do you know for a fact it won't? I'm well aware that the chances of this having any kind of success are unlikely but you know what? I think trying and failing is far better than not trying all. Remember that thing that just happened called Stop SOPA? I don't even want to imagine how things would have gone if everybody just did nothing and said "You know this probably won't work".
Granted I know that and this are on completely different levels of importance but my point is nobody changed anything by doing nothing. If you hate Bay's movies, if you are a TMNT or Transformers fan and want to see him stop tainting franchises held in some reverence, would it really kill you to take a minute or two and just post a video knowing maybe, just maybe it'll change someone's mind?

Zero Point : Future schedle.
General | Posted 14 years agoHey guys just wanted to let you know I've already begone taking notes and writing drafts for my next two episodes of Zero Point. Now, since there is a certain absence of new material that I can review/afford I intend to do some bits on games that were released in the past at some point that have yet to have any sequels or spinoffs. Anyway, here is the tentative order of upcoming reviews.
-Vanquish
-Shadows of the Damned
-Catherine
-Dark Void
-Ghost Trick
-Sine Mora
I also had two questions for you guys. First, on the topic of upcoming title Anarchy Reigns. The game has some returning characters from Madworld and is made by the same developer Despite that, it's a completely different game with no relation to Madworld other than said characters. So you think this qualifies it as a spinoff? Even if it's different, if it employs a similar theme and overall aesthetic to another game in which it even takes some characters I'm not sure I can do a review for it under my original concept. What do you think?
Also, I'm open to recommendations of other titles to review. Just remember, they cannot be part of a greater franchise. The game needs to be a singular instance without any sequels or spin-offs of any kind.

Lucha Libre and Botchamania
General | Posted 14 years agoA little trip down memory lane here. I don't talk about this much because it's ancient history but used to really dig pro wrestling.
Sure it's all fake but that was kind of the appeal of it. In a way it was like Power Rangers in that we got to see these characters pretend to beat the snot out of each other and it was fun. I had the good fortune of watching it when it was good in the early nineties to about 1998 I'd say. I jumped ship about halfway through the "Attitude Era" and never really looked back. WWF and WCW were doing pretty awesome for a time but I got sick of the increasingly talkative and annoying plots and the wrestling just got stale. Now at this time for whatever reason my house got a few foreign channels like YTV and more importantly, Galavision. There I was exposed to Lucha Libre and when I was watching and comparing the matches from to the American style, I came to the following conclusion...
Lucha Libre is superior!
I couldn't understand the stories but I didn't need to. I loved what I saw on display. The elaborate costumes, the high flying moves, it's all so dynamic and exciting. It's like in Mexico they figured if it's going to be fake might as well make it as stylish and flashy as they damn well can. It's like watching gymnastics except you got to stick the dismount on somebody's solar plexus. It's nuts. Compare that to Most stuff in WCW or WWF at the time where the big guys kept doing the same clotheslines and the same punches over and over. Boring.
Here's a good example of the awesomeness of Lucha Libre. I know it's WCW but this is a great match between Luchadors that I think think most anybody can enjoy.

Now, even though I'm pretty much done with wrestling I still enjoy looking back on some of those memories through the highly amusing lens that is Botchamania. What is Botchamania? It's basically a collection of clips from various promotions showcasing a slew of fuck-ups and stupidridiculous crap. Hilarity ensues. The video game music is a nice touch too. Here's a couple of my faves. Enjoy Kevin Nash commentary in the first one. X3
