update WARNING. WINDOWS 10: No Microsoft support.
Posted 10 years agoWIndows will not help you if you have trouble with windows 10.
My pc was left unable to display anything other than a blank screen with "mode not supported".
The tech support at microsoft will not do anything, saying "it is not their job" and that I should go to my manufacturer. HP said they would charge me 59 dollars for two weeks of help when I would only need a few minuets or hours at most for them to reset it themselves since they do not sell the cds with computers anymore.

Posted 10 years agoWhy the hell would my pc suddenly decide that going into command prompt should not happen and not even give me a specific error message that it is messing up?
Or was that me being stupid?

can't stop watching let's plays X3
Posted 10 years agoIs it bad that I want to keep watching let's plays of a series even though my friends tell me to buy a game I had never heard of before them mentioning it?
I try to make myself feel better by remembering I do not have a bank account of my own and feel bad about asking my parents to get things for me when I am already 23, but I still feel bad. As if I am disappointing them preemptively and would of been a really long time till I would of gotten the game, if at all.
Or am I just being lazy? Story is important and I can be spoiling stuff, but I have played games I have watched before and still had fun.
Sorry. It is just that this is a place with smart people and I run to here for advice and second opinions a lot.

changing up my dragon game ideas a little
Posted 11 years agoI know i should not be writing rough ideas on this site and writing them so early, but it is helping me get things done at least.
tinking and listening to others like sarun and such, I had made connections in my mind and have realized wich dragons would fit what cultures of the two I said so far:
Eastern dragons: the way I described them in my first ever journal on this topic, I realize the culture and examples may better fit western dragons. I need to think what would be better for the noodly guys.
Wyverns: here, I realize that how I talked about their culture and migration may actually better fit knuckers instead, and that wyverns may be better in a different role or description.

Making a Game with Playable Dragon Characters: part 2
Posted 11 years agoThis part will talk about how I have been rethinking my ideas.
Before getting to the actual game ideas itself, the lore and world building needs to go at its own pace. At least for me it does.
I think I will talk more about other species and dragons in this journal.
as always, he earth names are for convenience here till names for societies, breeds, and species are thought up.
I am neither trying to make all races have a balanced start or put one above the other, that is for the player to decide by what they see and find is best for them. I do not see things as backwards, forward, or modern, but as separate, mulch-directional paths.
Wyverns: I think of them, in this world at least, as the smaller race, much more communal by standards of the other species. The body of a wyvern is rather different in my opinion, able to fit in either anthropomorphic or feral classifications if not in their own list, a species that would have to use its brains or rethink its natural skills if it ever has to leave the place they where specialized for and not just be a temporary feature on the planet. They seem fitting as one of the races inhabiting the New World equivalent of the planet, living originally along cliffs and valleys, and having had to of expanded into deep forest, jungles and mountains. This would leave a species rather culturally diverse, ranging from isolated bands living together as they travel around coastal beaches and cliffs, up to massive, permanent "cities" of more sedentary individuals. This makes me think of the cultures ranging from ones similar to meso and central America like the Aztec or Inca; to old, crowded China to the ancient city-states of India and South Asia. A very curious people like the other races of this era
The way they would touch, feel, and fight would be different. The way they are built, "wing" and "arm" and "leg" would translate vary differently. The reliance on their "feet", tail, and teeth means what they make and craft would be rather interesting to see, sensitive and dexterous "toes", wing tips and teeth probably great at intricate weaving and sensitive jobs.
Really, I am not going to set up a native tragedy story,(that is just a big groan and eye-rolling) just the regular interactions of mutually advanced but different societies meeting.
A possible starting scenario for a wyvern character: you have lived in an ancient jungle city all your life with many friends and family members, your ancestors having changed the land just as it has changed them by necessity. You are there among the outskirts of the city with a few others, encountering curious, kindly beings similar but different to you. The mutual observations and lack of either side warring with the other leave both you and them out of their element. Some leave while your people and theirs learn more from observation, then they return, and out from among them is a translator, one of the non-wyvern people out east, who makes communicating with these serpentine beings much more manageable. This leads to many new things for your young mind to learn and use, taking your small civilization in a interesting direction with you.

Making a Game with Playable Dragon Characters: part 1
Posted 11 years agoonly part 1 of this long journal, possibly more latter.
I am thinking, and have at least a few pages of concepts, about a fantasy world were dragons are dominant.
(this is separate from my novel I write privately, similar with the dragons involved, but different world)
I am sharing this idea as I want to see what happens. And I want to see what will suggest what would be a good idea in their opinion, whether different or just suggestions to me.
I have some parts of a world that shares a similar but different history to Earth, with an Old World, New World, and so on, but not following the exact same path. I also had been inspired by Dragon Age and Mass Effect, mostly on the character development in the first game of each, and the large worlds and lore. Also in interacting with others and teammates.
There is colonization, wars and so on, but may not always happen for the exact reasons such as human wars.
I am not thinking of making any race particularly Good or Evil, but leave enough of a past or present to learn about to let you think for yourself.
This world would have its own names for the dragon or dragon-like beings that live there. They may be similar or just like the Eastern, Western/European, and so on here in stories, but call themselves and are called by others something that is respective to them and their world.
Some of my slowly building concepts:
using earth names as I am unsure about what to call them in this world yet
Eastern dragons and Serpents: I think of them as something unique, powerful in their own way, but uniquely weak in some aspects, like any other people are in fantasy. Eastern dragons tend to have long bodies and are rather flexible, lending to fast, strong or precise attacks from awkward angles for their opponent, or sheer crushing ability if they are big, strong, clever, or lucky enough. They have strange magic, and while some of that would possibly include attack spells, the utility and adaptability of their magic is what makes it strong. These possibilities if they are not held back by culture, belief, and tradition.
They may be similar to a mix of Human and High elf or even dwarf, but this is really not adequate to describe them. I at first thought of them to fill the roll of Europeans going around the world and changing it and the people round them, but I am unsure now due to my uncertainty and how others would see that.
I thought of them as inhabiting the old world, in nations that are either a mix or purely based on English, French, Japanese, or Chinese cultures. They live mainly in mountains, open buildings to fly out of, or deep caves and palaces that are lavishly decorated.
one starting scenario idea of many: your character is an Eastern dragon, of nobility, either close friends to a prince or just a resident local of the castle. There is much intrigue inn the royal court like always, but especially since the prince is marrying a "princess" from the new world, a wyvern. This is to insure peace and to build up a bloodline that will have claims and prestige on two continents. You are there, talking to friends, the princess , and even the bride to be, when there is a plot with much death impeding if not stopped, and your death is part of the plan by whoever is wanting to carry this out. This is where you try to figure out how to save yourself and whoever else you want to or can.

will write more latter or if there are a lot of comments.

My beef with Lord of the Rings
Posted 11 years agoWhen others usually complain about Lord of the Rings ruining fantasy, it is always with fawning on about it and how nothing will match up to it and give them too high expectations.
That is not me.
I do not think that is the reason at all why it may be ruining fantasy.
It is not that others cannot live up to it, for me it is that everyone feels they HAVE to make their fantasy as much like it as possible.
Really, how can it be fantasy if you have to copy someone else so much to feel you are writing fantasy?
Think about it, it is at the point where some authors, instead of remaking fantasy races, opt to remove them entirely now, as "they are all the same, and humans are much more diverse in real life."
Yes, people are, and it is fine to have different types of humans. That does not mean you cannot e-invent the other fantasy races however you want as well.
This is not Ming China of the past where everyone had to fawn on about the classics by law. This is the modern world where we have the freedom to remake things, but we are so used to the status quo, we feel embarrassed to try things differently.
