How I found out that I was a Furry
General | Posted 3 years agoI have been meaning to share this for a while on here. But here is the story of how I found out I was a furry. I originally wrote this as a youtube comment. Maybe this would make for a cool furry youtube story video some day.
When I first found the fandom in 2010 I knew that I was a furry right away after reading the wikipedia page. I had always been I just didn't know about furry. I thought I was alone in my obsession with dogs, wolves, and any media that featured them. when I found the fandom it was like there are other people that are somewhat like me! that like dog and wolf art, animated animal movies/ tv shows!
The first time that I heard the term furry was from some kids in the grade ahead of me when I was in fourth grade. they caught wind that I loved dogs and drew them and at the time watched a show that featured anthro dogs that were portrayed with costumes that were basically fursuits ( it was intended for preschoolers and I was way too old for it as I was 10 at the time but I watched it just because it had dogs ( looking back I actually didn't really care for the show), the show was Raggs if anyone was wondering). They liked to bully me by asking questions in a mocking way. so they woud ask me if I liked the show and one day they asked me if I was a furry. I didn't think much of it (I had not heard of the fandom or the term) and just answered them with my standard response to their questions of "i'm not answering that". I forgot about it and for some reason never looked it up. fast forward two years later (2010) I got an iPod touch 2nd gen for my birthday and one day I wanted to listen to Fireflies by Owl city. so I open up the apple youtube app. the app did not show Vevo official uploads of songs since it did not support ads so it showed other peoples uploads. One cached my eye "Animash fireflies by AlphaWolfKodi" with a thumbnail with a picture of bolt (my favorite movie) I watch it and love the video. later I watch it again on my computer and check out the uploaders channel and in the description it said in all caps "IM NOT A FURRY!!!". the term rang a bell in my head of that I heard it before and did not know what it meant. so I typed it into google and read the wikipedia article and the rest was history!

2023 Update
General | Posted 3 years agoHey I haven't been very active on here lately so I thought I would take some time to update my profile and give everyone an update.
I stated a seasonal IT job that I really liked at the end of September so that was consuming most of my time. The lack of interaction on any of my furry accounts also does not help for motivation either. Now i'm on a 3 month break so my hours can reset for the next season in the spring.
In terms of art i've been working on my fursona's design. Now that I have time, I wan't to work on drawing more so that I can make my own art, since it doesn't seem like I will be able to commission anything soon since that could possibly require explaining to my parents that I spent $100+ on a wolf drawing.

Update
General | Posted 3 years agoI haven't posted on here in a while so I thought I probably should give everyone an update on what's going on with me and my FA gallery.
First off thanks for all the new watches, favorites, and people that commented!
The gift art that I received was also very much appreciated and if anyone else wants to make some just send me a note to get approval before posting it.
Then for why I have not been active on here lately its a little bit of a longer story: This year started off by beginning with all of my energy and most of my free time being consumed by my job. I was basically ready to move on by the start of the year but I was too busy with work to take time to search for a new job. In a blessing in disguise, I ended up getting fired when they would not accept my doctors note when I got sick and did not have the energy to work a 10 hour shift standing. After that I spent my time enjoying having free time again but I did not feel motivated to do much furry stuff myself outside of looking at other peoples videos and artwork which is what I have mostly done since I found the fandom. I also began searching for a new job that I would like better. That process took about from this spring all the way until last month to finally find an entry level IT job that I liked and that would take me with no experience outside of my degree. I finally found one last month and so far I like it, too bad its only temporary at this point so I will most likely have to go through this process again.
Otherwise in terms of art at this point I want to commission stuff more than try to make my own at this point. I really want to get my sonas design improved by an actual artist that is good at character design rather than my best attempts at coloring a base. But this process seems kind of daunting to me, since first I have to find an artist that I like, figure out what I want, and then there's paying for it since I only have a debit card for my bank account and my parents would probably question where $500 of my money has gone. Then that same problem with getting a fursuit right now in terms of money and living at home.
I am also hoping to maybe go to a furry con next year (Anthrocon or Megaplex) but that probably won't happen.
I am also still trying to find friends or a friend group in the fandom with similar interests as me but I have been very unsuccessful. I still feel like I am lurking in the fandom and mostly posting to no one. I have tried here, barq, twitter, discord, and telegram. So if anyone has any advice with that it would be appreciated. Just as a warning I am pretty shy and prefer text chat as that is what I am comfortable with at this point.
I have been trying to be slightly more active on twitter so you can check me out there too (@wolfwideweb).

Thanks for 21 Watchers and 223 Favorites! / Update
General | Posted 4 years agoIts been two months since I last posted an update on here so I thought I should post another one:
First off, since my last journal I have gained 6 new watchers! So I now have 21 Watchers total. I also now have received a total of 223 favorites! So thanks to all of you that have watched my page and liked my art. Second, I have been busy with my job and I had to switch to a different schedule last month where I have to get up early and work 10 hours instead of just 8 which has been tiring. I have been trying to post something every weekend still though. Also I have kinda ran out of new bases and line art to color that I like so I have been working on practicing drawing so that I can draw my own line art myself. At some point in the near future I might commission some art of my sona too as I want to get a proper ref sheet and maybe some other art too. Looking to next year I hope to maybe get a fursuit and attend my first IRL fur con.

Update/ Thanks again for 15 watchers and 114 favorites
General | Posted 4 years agoFirst off, again, thanks to everyone that has favorited my art and watched my page. Since my last journal, I have gained 5 more watchers so I am now at 15 watchers and I now have 114 favorites now.
Second, I have now been at my new job for two weeks and it has been going fine so far (haven't found any other furs that I know of though wasn't really expecting to find any anyways). Just a big adjustment to having less free time and not being able to sleep in. I have free time every weekend though so expect uploads of new pieces then like I have been doing. At least until I run out of good line art to color which is kinda starting to happen.

Thanks for 10 Watchers and 73+ Favorites!
General | Posted 4 years agoAs of yesterday I now have 10 watchers! Thanks to everyone that has watched and favorited my art! Also, In a week I am starting a job so I might not be able to upload as frequently as I have been. But this opens up the door for potentially getting commissions, getting a fursuit, and being able to go to cons IRL!
Trying out different styles of markings for my sona
General | Posted 4 years agoI just uploaded some different versions of some of the bases that I colored before to try out a different style of markings for the legs and arms. I decided to try this after looking at wolf fursuits, with this seeming to be the most common marking style and it's more similar to how they are on real wolves. So let me know which you prefer as I am not sure which I like best myself.
