Thought I'd write something...
General | Posted 15 years ago Three years. Three long years have passed since I've typed anything on this account. The last thing I wrote was about my last night at Governor's School. What a long time away and so much has changed.
Currently, I am roughly four months away from being legal to drink alcohol. It will be interesting to see how it is. I've never been interested in actually drinking any, so I'll see what I think on that day. Many friends have said that they want to buy me a drink, but I just don't know if I will like anything at all. People younger than me have had more alcohol than I have. That is so weird and hard to understand how that happens. Information on the first drink will be given-maybe-sometime during the month of my birthday.
The next big thing is that I am in college. A music education major with a concentration in strings. I don't intend on teaching elementary or secondary, because I will be moving onto a Masters in Musicology/Music History. Going into my fifth semester of college, I will be a second semester Junior. By the spring of 2011, I will be a senior. I am lucky enough to be paid to go to college, and I also work in the music office for a little extra. It's tough, but it is so much better than high school.
In May of 2010, my mate and I went our separate ways. We were together for almost four years. It was much harder than I expected to let go, despite me instigating the break up. Initially, it as an amicable break up, but it went sour. Thankfully, we were able to recover and work through everything. I wish him the best of luck in life.
Life changes. Changes quickly, and changes slowly. It's all a matter of handling life as it comes. I hope this fills people in on some of the things that have been going on. Sincerely, Roo

The Last Night of Governor's School
General | Posted 18 years agoIt has been an exhausting but fun five weeks at Governor's School, but tonight is the last night, and the finales are tomorrow. Today, though, was of particular interest. The day started as normal, rehearsal at 8:00 a.m. and Beethoven at 10:00. Everything went well until the Choral Fantasy by Beethoven was underway. The orchestra was rehearsing, listening to the conductor's instruction, when metal clangs and there is a slam on the floor. Silence filled the hall as everyone's attention turned to the noise. A member of the chorus had passed out, hit her chin on the stand of second violinists, and hit the floor. From my position, I could not completely understand everything that had happened. We all suspected that she had locked her knees, causing her to faint, but a Soprano of many years would not have done something so mediocre. Others knew that if she had locked her knees, she would have bounced right back from the fall, however, this is what I've heard, she laid on the floor convulsing. Everyone's next thoughts were of a seizure. Yet, according to members of the choir, there was something else that triggered the incident. Her shoulder was hurting the previous day, and supposedly the pain became so great that her body went into shock. She is fine now, though her chin is now stitched from the impact with the stand.
Nothing else happened during rehearsal. But the day continues. As a member of the music student body, some of us were required to play small ensembles during the finale of the art students. The first performance went without a hitch. I had lunch next, setting by bass outside the cafeteria, in a safe place, resting my music on it as I ate. I come back to get my instrument for the second performance, and my music folder is gone, nowhere to be found. Fretting insues. Still haven't found my folder. After arriving at the second performance site, we are told to move to another area for they have run out of groups. We meander over, and to add to my frustration, there is no one in the room to listen. As it ended up, only one group performed in that room and everyone else left.
That about sums up my day. My bass is now in my dorm room, waiting until tomorrow. I did enjoy the Dance and Theater Finales though, quite entertaining. Time for me too be off to room check. Talk to everyone nextime. Roo

Almost Finished
General | Posted 18 years agoGovernor School finishes in 4 days. They will be fast and furious. A moment's break will be terribly rare and nearly impossible to find, except after dinner. The schedule goes as follows: 8:00-Orchestra rehearsal, 10:00- Class/ Beethoven, 11:00-Chamber A rehearsal, 12:00- Lunch (I do not recommend), 1:30- Chamber B rehearsal, 2:30- Masterclass, 3:30-Orchestra rehearsal, 5:00-Dinner(Also not recommended), and usually some event at 7:30. This has been my schedule from the very first day, and will be the same until Thursday and Friday, when the finales begin.
Overall, Governor's school has been a fun experience, but home is sounding better and better every day. Not to forget everyone I miss, especially Buck^^. Even better news, the last day is July 13th, how wonderful!!*sobs*
Talk to everyone soon. Roo.

Governor's School
General | Posted 18 years agoSunday, I will be making a 3.5 hour drive to Murfreesboro, TN, for a 5 week intense program of nothing but music. However, my focus will be the instrument I have played for 7 going on 8 years, the Double Bass. This is a school, not some summer music program you pay money to attend. This is an all expense paid learning experience. For even a spot, you have to audition among many or a few. I was one of five double bassists to audition, and now I am either 1 of 3, or 1 of 2 bassists who have shown proficiency in skill and want for a chance at this school. Wish me luck. The bass I am taking is not my own but a fairly good school bass. Hopefully I can show some pictures. talk to you all in 5 weeks. Roo.
