What graphics tablet should I get?
General | Posted 11 years agoSo I'm interested in getting a new graphics tablet, something high-end. Problem is, I wouldn't have the foggiest clue which one to choose! If any of you have the minutes to spare, I could really do with some advice (or you can just ram a specific model down my throat!).
A few details:
-Money is no object. I want to get the tablet that's perfect for me, even if it's super-costly, or only slightly better than a much cheaper option (though I'd like to know what the choices are).
-I use a PC, not a laptop. Windows 7 in case it matters. I usually only use one monitor at a time.
-I'd prefer to avoid a tablet that would involve further hassle, such as having to buy other peripherals or mess around with complicated drivers.
-USB-powered is my preference. I'm not a Bluetooth user.
-I'm aware of extras such as a mouse, programmable keys, etc, but I doubt they'd appeal to me. I'm happy to use my normal keyboard and mouse, I prolly won't care if the tablet has such features.
-I probably want a tablet that has its own screen, and for it to be quite a decent size. A screen only a handful of inches across sounds kinda boring.
That's about it. You guys have a lot more art experience than me, so any help you're willing to give is much appreciated!

Flygon and such took it...Here are my results.
Original
You are constantly coming up with new ideas. For you, the world as it exists is just a jumping-off place; what's going on inside your mind is often more interesting than what's going on outside.
You don't feel that the road to success is to be a realist and stick to the program; you never stop yourself from coming up with new ideas or telling the world what you're thinking about.
Introspective
You like your own company; you're a very interesting person. Tracking your own mental processes, knowing what you're thinking and why you do what you do, is important to you. Often, what's going on in your mind is more compelling than what's going on outside. For the most part, those with a high score on the "introspective" trait enjoy reading, taking long walks, learning new things, and other solitary activities.
You are not someone who is constantly looking to be among a group of friends; you never feel bored when you are by yourself.
Creative
You are good at solving problems, coming up with original ideas, and seeing connections between things, connections that most other people miss. People with a high score on the "creative" trait often are employed in such fields as finance and scientific research, and enjoy avant garde and classical music as well as literary fiction and scholarly non-fiction.
You do not shun abstractions and concepts in favor of the concrete and tangible.
Competent
You strive to master everything you undertake. You tend to learn quickly and do not shy away from challenges.
You are not a "que sera sera" type of person, nor do you go easy on yourself when attempting to master a new skill or get a job done.
Astute
You are a quick study. You generally don't need to have things explained to you more than once. When presented with a problem, you will often have an instant understanding of where to look for the solution.
You do not take your sweet time when presented with a new task to complete or problem to solve. You don't avoid assignments that require you to learn new skills.
Intellectual
You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You're the living embodiment of the saying "You learn something new every day." In general, those with a high score on the "intellectual" trait are employed in such fields as teaching and research, and are enthusiastic about reading, foreign films, and classical music.
You do not avoid abstract conversation, experimenting with new ideas, or studying new things. It bores you to stick to the straight and narrow of what you already know.
Accessible
You're comfortable expressing yourself in words and actions, with no self-censorship. You believe that if someone doesn't like what they see it's not your problem, but theirs. A high score on the "accessible" trait suggests that you have a lot of friends, socialize often, and enjoy rap/hip-hop music.
You don't see the need to keep your thoughts to yourself, or to have a zone of privacy that encompasses only yourself and a small circle of friends and relatives.
Warm
You have a genuine interest in other people. You're a natural host, and are always thinking about how you can increase the happiness of those around you. When friends have problems or are in trouble, you're usually the first person they turn to for aid and comfort. Scoring high on the "warm" trait suggests that you are among those who enjoy domestic activities — doing things around the house — and are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't always say exactly what you're thinking; you don't like the idea of causing anyone pain because of your criticism.
Understanding
You are willing to take the time to find out what's going on with other people, especially if they're in distress. You're a good listener, you don't criticize, and you offer unbiased, respectful, honest advice when it's requested. With a high score on the "understanding" trait, it is likely that you are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't feel the need to impose your standards on others or say things that, even though true, cause pain.
Optimistic
You are a "glass half-full" kind of person, always on the lookout for the silver lining. Your happiness is contagious, which is why others like to be around you.
You do not feel that the world is an intrinsically depressing place; you are not the kind of "realist" who thinks that only fools find joy in life.

Where is all the happy sex!?
General | Posted 16 years agoAs someone who himself dreams of writing a series of popular fanfics, I feel inclined to share something I realised a short while ago.
Shortly before writing this journal entry, I happened to read down the Most Recent Stories list in the AGNPH fanfics section. What I saw did not amuse me. Of all the stories listed on the first page, all but one of them had 'Rape' or 'Death' listed in their keywords, and most of them had both. While this is nothing particularly new to me, only now has it sunk in just how truly bad this is.
Does nobody ever write cheerful, peaceful stories anymore? Why does every fanfic, even the well-written ones, have to be filled with death and violent drama?
It is perfectly possible to have an interesting storyline that doesn't involve somebody getting raped, or having their head removed (or, judging by the 'Castration' tags, certain other body parts). Entertainment can be achieved through any number of methods, both adult and tame, and personally I think that many of these stories could do with a little less blood.
"But my stories make you stop and consider the world!" I hear you cry. "My stories are dramatic and gripping!"
To this, I pose the following: What kind of entertainment do you think people are seeking from your stories?
We are not talking about some dramatic adventure novel sold for $29.95 at your local bookstore. We are not talking about 21st century editions of the Kite Runner, or some written version of the Diehard movies. We are talking about fan-made stories based on a popular game/media series, posted on a free-to-view anime porn site.
If I wanted a story that would make me stop and consider the world around me, or make me reevaluate my morals, I would dig out a famous, published novel. If I wanted a story to enthrall me, to draw me into an ever-expanding web of drama and excitement, there are books for that as well. Movies and TV shows, too.
But, when I open my browser and roll over onto to AGNPH, this is not the kind of entertainment I'm looking for. When I browse for free fanfics on a Pokemon porn site, I'm looking for fun. I'm looking for a story to humour or arouse me, one I can read for an hour or so during my free afternoon. In short, a story I can walk away from with a soft chuckle and a smile on my face.
Cheerful stories are dead because authors killed them. I want to make it known that it is my ambition from here on out to write stories that will purely entertain, without violence or sexual abuse. I encourage all of you to do the same, even if just occasionally.
I want back the fun, amusing stories I used to see. I want back the short, innocent tales of blissful tomfoolery, rolling about in the long grass on a warm afternoon. I want the happy sex back.
And I know I'm not the only one.
