internet censorship
General | Posted 4 months agoGudday.
I wanted to make a more formal post talking about the current and upcoming censorship laws being introduced in most countries in the Western world (UK, AU, EU, USA).
It's becoming increasingly scary to think about just how much control these laws will/do allow governments, to where they can essentially shut down freedom of expression within all online spaces, places that for the most part, have given many people areas to voice their opinions freely, whether you would agree with those opinions or not.
I'm thankful to live in a country that, as of the writing of this journal, does not have such a law actively being worked on (though there are groups pushing for one to be implemented, how very coincidental). Though as i understand many websites may be forcing their users that reside even outside of countries with forced ID verification laws, to submit IDs to view their content, so even if you're country does not have such a law, you may still be forced to give third parties your private information when using websites such as youtube.
All this in the name of "child safety" which make no mistake, is simply a guise to fool people into agreeing with these laws without proper investigation as to what they entail.
I don't know what the future of the internet will look like, but if these kinds of laws are allowed to pass then i expect any future laws will be even more invasive and used to control and silence those who do not support the current governments agenda. I urge you all to take a stance against these laws however you can, as i will do should my country attempt to implement them.
Email your representatives, speak with your friends and family, anything at all.
And should these laws pass wholesale, i question whether i am willing to sacrifice my privacy and security for what amounts to watching silly videos online and occasionally uploading something here...
I remain, VanFuchs

a predictable absence
General | Posted 5 months agoTo whom it may concern (so likely no one).
My progress on VotWS has become stunted greatly.
It turns out that writing a short story set in a world of my own creation, that i have to build from the ground up, with zero real experience in writing, is a task that will take me a very long time to actually do/finish.
I will try to release pages for it as soon as they are finished, but i seriously underestimated the work I'd have to do on the side of writing to get it going properly. Creatively speaking, my mind is very tired after trying to hastily create an entire worlds worth of lore, as a simple backdrop to things like a characters backstory, or as reference to words people use, etc etc.
All of my effort is being used to create this stuff, so when it comes to things like actually creating pictures to go along with it, I'm quite simply tuckered out and not able to focus properly on these things. Which is why i haven't been uploading.
I've also been devoting a lot of time to studying art. Which is making me question the way i approach my works in general.
But will hopefully result in my works being of higher quality.
All this to say, that i expect to be quite absent, but i am working on getting more stuff out.
I just can't do it fast enough to be "active" in any significant way.
Small question to anyone who may be interested:
Would you prefer bulk uploads of my short story once i have a few pages stockpiled
Or
Have me upload each page as i finish them?

A question to anyone who may be interested in my to-be no...
General | Posted 11 months agoSo i have been thinking over this for a fair while now, to the point i believe i've got myself stuck into a sort of art block as i'm finding it tricky to go forward with any current works.
I have more than a handful on hold i should try to get out before the months end but i can't promise anything. My private life has been quite... annoying to say the least, which has put a hamper on things.
I wanted to ask of anyone interested, now or in future, how they would prefer for me to proceed with my fantasy novel thingy, by that i mean in which medium you would prefer i present it in.
The "fastest" way to get it out would be in text of course but i lack in this area greatly, so wish to avoid it as much as i can.
In my mind i can envision an entire short film made out of the current VotWS (voices of the whispering sea) short story i have in the works, though i'm sure such an endeavor is beyond my current skillset, not to mention lacking in equipment/software that would be needed to create it.
The current format i am thinking will be my choice is to create a sort of comic in order to tell my stories, i'm far from skilled in that area either, but at least i can rely on visual story telling as much as possible...
And of course i will still be using my normal works with some flavour text to add on to things as i go along. Though i don't really want to stick with that format as a main way to tell stories.
But do let me know what you all would prefer to see it in, i believe i need some kind of confirmation to get my mind going with things.

regarding free work.
General | Posted a year agoMy feelings on free work and taking requests is becoming increasingly dour, and from multiple interactions recently has gotten to the point where I must say, unless specified for select giveaways or other offers, i will no longer offer my services for free.
Current free works will still be finished, and the leftover YCH giveaways will remain open, but outside of such instances consider that aspect closed.
Part of me doesn't want to do this, but i hate feeling used by others.

An update
General | Posted a year agoGudday.
Firstly, i want to address my unfriending a few folks on discord. I see little point in having people friended on there if i don't speak with them often, and have become somewhat reticent in my behavior recently, so my desire to reach out to folks is near zero. I hope those effected are not offended and or hurt.
Secondly, thanks to some... "flexible" financing on my part, i have made some progress with my studio, new shelving has been put in which has let me clear up quite a bit of space, though it is not enough space for me to work comfortably, i will still attempt a few practice paintings to test if i can make-do with the current state it's in. I have also been able to purchase a display tablet, unfortunately my current PC set up makes using it physically uncomfortable for me, and dissuades my attempting any real work with it currently. So for the time being i will still be using my mouse for digital works.
I may also cancel the proposed Halloween YCH giveaways, i'm quite unsure just yet as my mood is extremely unstable.
A part of me has a similar feeling to how i felt before my hiatus a few years ago... We shall see where that goes.

Would anyone be interested in halloween YCHs/requests?
General | Posted a year agoGudday, i wanted to make this to ask if anyone would be interested in me offering a select number of YCHs or request slots etc etc themed around Halloween? They will of course be free.
I planned to take October off to work on personal projects, but in the spirit of spookiness i feel like giving out some treats, or tricks if you would prefer mwuha.
If this journal lacks attention than i guess ill have my answer.
Nevertheless happy Halloween all.

A general Q&A
General | Posted a year agoI'm making this journal to answer a few questions that may come up in the future, so that folks don't need to ask them when i create a work and/or they want to know more about me. If you have any specific questions though, feel free to ask in the comments and i can try to give an answer.
Q: Are you an artist?
A: I don't consider myself one, but for the sake of simplicity, yes.
Q:What are your pronouns/gender/preferred form of address?
A: My gender is "fox" and you can use any pronouns you prefer to view me as being.
Q: What animal species are you willing to work on?
A: Every species and gender, both anthro and feral. Though i specialise in canines i am very much open to trying to depict each and every one in my works, including hybrids, winged species, humans, aliens and custom species.
Q: What are you willing to create?
A: I do SFW and NSFW work, and am willing to attempt lots of different stuff, including taboo subjects, so for the most part i am likely willing to create whatever you may have in mind, but if you're ever unsure simply ask. The list of things i am not willing to create is much shorter than that which i am willing to. That said, i can still be quite picky, especially when it comes to free work.
Q: So what are you NOT willing to create?
A: Here's a short list of topics i will likely refuse outright if asked to create it for free:
-
Scat, water-sports, obesity and hyper-muscle, micro and macro, vore, voluntary cuckolding.
-
And generally, anything that i feel just doesn't fit my style, though that is more determined on a case by case basis.
It's also worth noting, i will refuse any requests made through this website that go against it's current terms of service, code of conduct or upload policy, as well as any requests to create works that may be deemed as illegal in my current country of residence.
Q: I have a work from you featuring my character, can i upload it and/or share it myself?
A: Absolutely, just credit me when you do.
Q: My YCH/request is taking a long time and i haven't heard from you, what's happening with it?
A: I try to finish works in a timely manner but sometimes i can have severe art-block, it's also possible i've forgotten to send you an update but am working on your piece. Feel more than free to send me a PM asking about any work you're expecting from me, and i'll try to answer as soon as i am able to.
Q: How specific can i be in my requests?
A: Extremely, the more details i have the better, though i do appreciate having artistic liberty it helps to know what exactly you want to see first, so that i can adapt around that as i work.
Q: The quality of your work seems to jump up and down a lot, what level can i expect for my YCH/request?
A: Yes, as the quality of my work is largely tied to my mood which is very unstable. However i will try to give you the highest level of quality i feel able to at any given time. Though it should be noted that works i do for free, will be worked on until i reach my personal level of "acceptable", this is to ensure i do not overwork myself by taking on too many free works all at once.
Q: How long do i have to wait for you to respond to my message?
A: Please be patient, if i am taking a long while there is likely a reason, such as me trying to compose my reply properly, or simply me being too busy to respond right away.
Q: How do i request a commission?
A: Send me a note, or other form of DM, even if my slots are at 0 i may be open to more work.

Censorship on FA
General | Posted a year agoOver the last day or so, it's come to my attention that there is a rather, if not large than certainly vocal part of the fandom that wants to push for further censorship on what is to be allowed depicted in artworks that are uploaded onto FA.
I dislike censorship of all kinds, but haven't really been bothered by FAs current policies so far, as those ones already in place don't really matter for the works i've been wanting to create. However depending on how and or if the list of disallowed artistic media grows, i may decide to leave FA and upload to another website, such as IB.
The main reason why i like FA is due to it not allowing AI generated content, so to see it become more restrictive towards real artists would be a very sad sight to see.
I enjoy exploring taboo subjects in my works, so i find myself thinking that at some point down the line it may get me into trouble, And i would rather leave FA altogether than deal with some nonsensical drama due to one of my works angering the wrong folks.
I'm unsure how to end this as my thoughts aren't particularly well thought out on the matter.
When i was younger and lurking in the fandom, it always seemed so approachable and open when it came to art, but these days it feels as though the opposite is true, though perhaps that's simply society in general...

NZ-Furs an anti-AI petition. (closed)
General | Posted a year agoI don't have many followers, and i'm unsure where else i could post this as i lack social media. However i would be incredibly thankful to anyone who enjoys my work and the work of other Artists to consider signing this petition:
[Link removed]
It will be up for one year at the posting of this journal.
Even if you may disagree with it, you might consider sharing it around, either on this website or another where it might reach more NZ-furs, and hopefully something may come of it should it get enough attention.
The following is the petition itself:
Petition request
That the House of Representatives inquire into the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its regulation in New Zealand, proactively create law regarding its use within New Zealand, and ensure the rights of New Zealand consumers and artists are preserved in regard to AI.
Petition reason
I believe that as AI-based generative imaging technology advances and is implemented into everyday electronic devices, those technologies are being exploited by companies and so-called "AI-artists" to steal consumer data and artists’ works to train AI to create imagery. I consider that this training is often done without the express consent of the consumer or artist, and artists’ works are being stolen and sold in a plagiarised manner without reimbursement.
A small disclaimer, the wording is not exactly my own, as it was changed by a moderator in order to be in-line with their guidelines.
I remain, VanFuchs.
Update:
The petition has officially closed, we got a total of 62 signatures, which is really great to be honest.
I never expected it would get that many.
Sadly, upon sending the petition to be presented by an MP, they've refused due to "competing demands on the ministers time".
Which is a reply i assumed i would get. I might try sending it to be presented by as many MPs as i legally am able to, but i don't have much hope any will accept it...
Regardless thank you to everyone who signed it.
We tried <3

Art-block update + plans for the end of the year
General | Posted a year agoGudday all, it seems my art-block is loosening its grip on me and i'm able to make some progress in my works again, though i've also built up quite a bit of a workload to get through during my downtime, this seems to be a bad habit of mine.
I wanted to let you all know that i am currently saving up money to invest into a display tablet, i will be able to afford one if not by the end of this month, then the next. which will hopefully increase the speed at which i can complete digital works aswell as give me a better ability to control how i want them to look. As i currently mostly draw with my mouse, my works take longer to complete than i should like.
After that i will also be endeavoring to sort out my studio, which will give me the ability to experiment with traditional methods with greater freedom, so hopefully by the end of the year i will be creating traditional paintings if not something along those lines, as well as continuing my digital stuff.
So to everyone who is expecting a work from me, i thank you for your patience and ask for it a little while longer.
As well as thanking you all for the support! <3
I remain, VanFuchs
P.S. due to the recent lets say "event" which was quite the scare, i may also be branching out to other sites if i can find the energy to do so.

request rule update
General | Posted a year agoI am putting this rule in place for all future and current works that are requested of me.
Normally i would wait until a work is finished before asking as to whether or not the client wishes for said work to be viewable publicly, however i have changed my mind on this matter, and from now on all current and/or future works created by me will/may be uploaded by me to one and/or all of my galleries at my own discretion, if you disagree with this you may feel free to cancel any work you have with me.
Disclaimer:
This does not apply to situations wherein i would be directly disobeying this sites (or another's) TOS, code of conduct or upload policy.
This is essentially a rule i am putting in place to ensure any and all clients understand from the start that their requested piece is to be viewable publicly upon being completed.
If you wish to ask me for a private work, you must do so from the onset of our agreement and before i have begun working on it.
If the work contains one or more of your characters and you decide you wish for it to be private after i have begun work on it, i may simply take your characters out of it and/or cancel the work altogether.
My work is not very good, however i still wish to share it with the world at large, and feel cheated when i am told halfway through a request that it will be private and only for the clients viewership.
Especially if said client believes they're able to dictate whether or not i get to share my own artwork.

Supporting me + A bit of my philosphy on art
General | Posted a year agoGudday, I've been thinking for a long while now on ways to make a living for myself through my artwork.
I am still very much on the fence regarding certain things such as subscription services or commissions, however i have decided to enable the FA shinies tipping thingy as a way to let folks support me if they feel the desire to do so.
I do not wish for anyone to feel compelled to do so however, as simply viewing my work is a form of support i could hardly ask for.
Now, my philosophy regarding art is a bit complex and boring so i will condense it as best i can.
I believe art in and of itself should be created without any desire other than that which is to create it, and should likewise be viewable to all who should wish to see it freely.
However i also understand and believe in the idea of private property, so do not necessarily believe that should one wish to keep an artwork (or a variation of it, as in a NSFW version) private, that said person would be in the wrong or not have the right to do so.
I also do not condemn those who create artworks with the incentive of monetary gain.
With that said, my ideal form of receiving payment for any given work would be in having the client for whom the artwork was created, be the one who decides what my work is worth. As i personally believe all my works to be worthless, i cannot label them with any pricing and feel content in doing.
My thoughts on this matter may change in the future of course, depending on how my own financial situation changes. As of the moment it is somewhat stable, however i do not know how long it will stay this way.
I remain, VanFuchs

YCH delays
General | Posted a year agoI'm afraid my work on the YCHs may be slower than i had initially expected, I honestly didn't expect to get any takers at all, so my mind is becoming a bit flustered with anxiety which is restricting my ability to focus on my works.
I will try to complete them as soon as possible, nevertheless.
I'm also trying to create a very basic discord server which will hopefully facilitate more direct communication with me, as well allowing me to get more direct feedback by posting images of works as they progress.

In regards to recent uploading of digital works.
General | Posted a year agoI somewhat feel the need to address the large amount of digital works i have been uploading recently.
There are a few reasons for this. but the most important one is that my studio is currently in a state of "disrepair" so what work i can do traditionally is limited to sketches. Which at the moment does not suffice for what i want to create, so i have been digitising anything i sketch.
I do not necessarily plan to switch to only creating/posting digital works, my traditional works are simply on hold for an indefinite amount of time while i sort out my studios issues.
So apologies to anyone who wished to see more traditional works from me in the near future.
