So I'm still kind of new at this, but one thing I know for sure is its a bugger getting good fur in Canada.
I've ordered from Fabric.com, Mendals and investigated several other sites(fabric empire, CRcrafts). Most either won't ship to Canada at all (looking at you Distinctive Fabrics) or charge an arm and a leg for shipping up here, seriously, like +50% of the actual cost of the fur added on for shipping.

I thought I finally found a site with reasonable shipping, Syfabrics, and I get a notice from UPS here for a great big whack of import charges, basically shoving them up to just as bed if not worse then the other places to order from!

Local finds are hit and miss and unreliable, and I'm in Toronto with a fairly big textiles section.

It is so bloody frustrating.

Does anyone know a good supplier in Canada for artificial fur? Barring that a site that charges a more reasonable amount for shipping? Preferably one you have experience with. I'm probably going to be SOL and I'm kind of just venting, but yeah, any advice would be great.

Yup, I'm still around, realized I hadn't updated my journal in a long time. Been working on small projects, pairs of paws, body suits that sort of thing and totally flaking on getting final pictures, duh.

Headed up to Anime North yesterday and had a great time just hanging around outside with a few other furs. I delivered my last couple of comissions there and all the recipients were quite happy with the results. We got a great reception, better then I expected, and LOTS of hugs. I thought furs were a cuddly crowd but the anime people were very friendly and everyone wanted hugs from the furries! Might have had something to do with it being kinda on the cold side and we were the warmest ones out there. We joked that we should have had a sign with "Free Heat" on it. Saw a lot of awesome anime costumes of course, I was really impressed by the workmanship I saw and don't recall seeing anything I thought was remotely terrible, no fat guys in Sailor moon dresses or anything. Wish I had gotten a closer look at the dude dressed up as an Aliens -alien a.k.a. Xenomorph, it looked great. At one point we got asked to dance for a Psy-Gentleman video, so we'll see if we make the cut, we were pretty bad... We ended up going to the rave in the parking lot and danced our tails off though until the wee hours of the night before we had to go.

So I found a new job, which takes a big load off my mind. Start on monday... worst part though is it's shirt and tie required, bleh. Still I hope it will be a really good opportunity so I shall endure it.

In other news I've finished off my Christmas raffle prizes (about bloody time). I'll have pics of the feet paws tomorrow.

Other good news is I think Condition just came back on the menu as a strong possibility. Anyone else going this year? I'd be looking for roommates and can provide a ride from the Toronto area down there.

Well, about 30 hours till I'll be at FE! God thats not a lot of time....

I'm working away still trying to finish things for the Con, I've already had to put some stuff off. But I think I'll have the major stuff done.

Well, I got notice on Monday, I'm being laid-off at work at the end of March. I didn't love the job, but its a really bad time for me to be losing my job. Not sure what I'm going to do next, I'm exploring my options. I would really love to get some grants from the Ontario government and go back to school for a skilled trade, but I think thats a long shot. Especially since I have no prospective apprenticeship.

So in the meantime, I'd like to toss open my doors for commissions sooner then I expected. I wanted to do this later this year but If I could score a few things now that would go a long way to helping me if I can't find work right away. I'm going to charge prices I think are relative to my skill level and more then competitive. I'm not looking to make this my full time job ( that would be awesome, but most likely not happening). Heck I don't even have a company name.

Pricing is as follows:
Fullsuits starting at $900* (static jaw, foam based head, 3 fur colours, simple markings)
Partials starting at $500* (static jaw, foam based head, 3 fur colours, head, hand paws, feet paws and tail)
Feet Paws Start at $90 (I make feet paws without shoes, but other styles are possible)
Hand paws start at $25 (1-2 colours)
Tails start at $30 (Small tail with up to 2 colours), Large tails like http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9479228/ go for about $100.
Bodysuits starting at $200 (3 colours, plantigrade, simple markings)

*half payment, to a maximum of $500 required upfront as a deposit

More complex items will demand higher prices as I will need more materials/time to complete. I have no queue at the moment, so if you commission me first you could have your stuff by the end of March or April!

I'm also learning how to make other kinds of props which I'll have examples of soon since I'm making them for FE.

Another busy weekend. I finished  flowkitty's Otter bodysuit, delivered Yuki's final pieces and delivered the first of my Christmas Raffle prizes to  aury_dragon

So far everyone likes their stuff, which I'm super happy about. I made it out to the Islington furmeet for a few hours to socialize a bit, but had to run early since I got so much to do before FE.

Still some time left today, gonna take a break and then into the next project!

Got a lot a done this weekend! Starting to catch up on my projects. Yuki's head, tails and paws are all done, so once they are delivered that'll be my third fullsuit I've made, woohoo!

I got the first of my Christmas Raffle prizes done. A big big tail that took much longer then I had expected.

I also picked up and ordered materials for the rest of what I need to get done, which will hopefully happen by the time FE rolls around! It's still a lot of stuff though. gonna be workin' my tail off to get it done.

I'm back from my weekend trip!

It was a great time as usually, played a lot of games. I did pretty well in the two tournaments I entered, 6th and 3rd. Stayed up way too late and got almost zero sleep, but it was a great time as usual. Met some awesome people too. I won't go into the details since it's not really furry related though.

Anyway, I'm back and will respond to messages once again and I'll be going full bore on finishing all my furry related projects, should have pictures of a couple up soon.

Well January came and went faster then I really wanted it to. I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to

However, this weekend I am off to Templcon, a Steampunk convention in Warwick Rhode Island, where there will be much gaming and shenanigans.

Won't be back until Monday so if I don't answer a text it's because I'm down south of the border...even though I'm basically just going east.

So here we are New Years Day!

I have a few projects planned for the next while. Since many of them involve people I'm making stuff for thought I'd make a post about it so people know where I'm at.

On the list. I'm hoping to be done with most if not all of this by the end of January.

- New Head for yuki (have materials, starting it today)
- Hand paws for Yuki
- Tails for yuki
- Tail for AuryDragon (have *most* of the materials)
- Hooves for JustifyMySanity (have materials)
- Handpaws for Foxxghost...if he ever contacts me.
- Trade with FlowKitty (shes doing a head base for me, I'm doing a bodysuit for her)
- Finish my next suit.

Thats a lot and I don't know if I will get through it all in the time I want, but I'm gonna try. This is still a spare time hobby for me, so we'll see.

First weekend of February I'm heading to Templecon, where much gaming will be had,

In February:
Finish my costume/uniform for FE. Yuki made me an awesome Russian solider inspired coat, I'm going to make some armour and a gun to go with it. (what do you call a costume over a costume anyway?)

March:
Attend FE 2013.

Long Term:
Start and finish a very complicated fursuit for FE 2014...yes I'm thinking that far ahead, it's that complicated.

aaaand thats all I have for sure right now. but I do have one more thing I want to do....

Open for Commissions. I really would love to make this a second job/side business for myself. I LOVE making fursuits, I'm getting better and better at it, people seem to like my work and I wouldn't mind a little extra money here and there. So feel free to contact me if you'd like something. I don't have set prices right now, but I'm trying to charge very reasonably compared to whats out there and my experience level. That means for now, some what lower then the pros out there doing it full time.

Anyway that's the plan right now, hopefully it all goes well and 2013 is winds up as a great year!

Went on down to Niagara-On-the-Lake at  DannyDingo 's open request today and participated in the parade. It was pretty wet out there having been raining all morning. It let up almost completely for the parade itself thankfully. We still got drenched pretty good and my suit is gonna need a good cleaning, but it was a good time. I'd never been in a parade before.

We also got stuck behind a group on horseback so we were dodging horse poop the whole time aaaaaand I'm pretty sure I stepped in some at one point. One fortunate side effect of the wet conditions though is it must have washed it all off my footpaw by the end because I didn't see any when we changed out of suit. Hopefully they will be salvageable, but I may just toss them out. I was planning to make new ones anyway.

Went out on a furwalk today. 9 suiters this time around I believe? Crazy big crowds out for the 100th Grey Cup party downtown. We hung around front street for a couple hours getting mobbed by people taking pictures. I think we stood in some places for 15 mins straight as people came to the group for pictures. It was a great vibe as everyone was already in a great mood.

After that we marched over to Rainbow Cinemas and watched Rise of the Guardians. I actually quite enjoyed the movie, at least as much as Wreck it Ralph, maybe more. It was really quite charming. Not as much humour as I expected and a good amount of action/adventure stuff. Recommend seeing it if you're into animated family films.

After this we went out to the Speghetti Factory for Dinner, I kinda felt sorry for our poor waiter dealing with such a rambunctious and big crowd of furries.
