Week 23
Posted 12 months agoWeek 22’s theme/goal was to redo reference sheets for the main four characters in my Panics comic, and possibly some of the trio though I didn’t get that far because of other distractions during my week. I am happy with the way that they came out in comparison to the way the originals came out. Note, the originals were never posted on FA because they were not things I felt comfortable/confident posting.
I also did a portrait of a Gorn captain, a transformation sequence, a little feature for my 5th month on FA, and got some mini painting in this weekend! It was a very good week 22.
For week 23, the theme is the dreaded and dreadful enemy I have constant fear of facing. Hands! I have been putting off and putting off this week, but this week is going to be a hand focus. Expect to see lots of hands and nothing else, so it may end up being a boring week of arm/hand sketches. I will however still do some other drawings as well to keep myself sane even as I attempt to do the hand jive.
Thank you to everyone who watches/faves/comments on my posts. I glanced at my view count. It’s over 2000! I feel like the last time I noticed it it was only over 1000 which felt like a ton. I’m going to keep the art coming and hope you all keep watching. Drawing just for myself was a difficult thing to keep motivated for. Drawing and sharing with others has kept my enthusiasm up and will hopefully get me through this handy week.

5 months
Posted 12 months agoToday marks the 5th month of doing one drawing a day. Normally I would do a drawing to announce this, and I probably will! But I wanted to write something on the day of rather than risk today’s busy schedule keeping me from it, especially since I’m already working on a reference sheet project.
The reference sheets are actually also a redo of something that I started the second day I had the I-pad. This was before I had the “pieces I was proud of.” Where I started posting some things up on FA. So month five begins with me getting to see the leaps my art has made.
I am invigorated by the changes, and intimidated by how far I still have to go. I think I’ll always feel like I’ve got further to go though. I’m getting into the game late, and it feels like I’m playing catch up for years I could have been drawing on an I-pad.
Wanted to share all this in a journal. If you’re reading this and thinking, “ I could never!” If you don’t start, you’re right! Pick up books, look at tutorials on youtube from artists you like, and hold yourself to one drawing a day… hands, feet, heads, arms, eyes. Focus on what you think is your weakness and research styles to do it. I’ve been doing that for Five months, and if you look through my gallery and scraps you can see how my art has developed.
I hope to inspire people to at least try if they have the desire but have been just watching as I did for so many years. Realize that you want to keep it fun, but also study what you are doing.
Now onwards to the next month. Nearly at the halfway point of a year.

Week 22
Posted 12 months agoWeek 21 the fluffening was a great success!
I feel really good about the pieces I accomplished in adding textures to fur and feathers across the board. I’m especially proud of Curse of The Were-Duck and Ser Cheddar’s portrait. The other characters I created may have been one off, but that mysterious transforming duck person and Ser Cheddar were more personal because of storyline or direct connection. I now have a better idea of how to approach fur or feathers moving forward to give characters a texture to their silhouette.
Week 22 I am going to go back to something that, while it was never posted here, was a day 2 project I started on the I-pad. I made reference sheets for the main characters I intended to draw. Trellian, Alca, Sezin, Liz, Roxy, Clyde, Reiher, Etc. I did the best I could at the time, and while I still used them for colors, they were never going to see the light of day. This week I’m going to spend time updating those reference sheets for my characters which I started with Trellian.
To those who watch, fave, or comment I want to thank you for your support in my journey. Knowing that my art is being seen and sometimes even appreciated makes a big difference in my motivation to keep making it. You are all the best and I appreciate every one of you.

Week 21
Posted a year agoWeek 21:
Week 20 has been a great week of drawing, even with a day where I couldn’t manage to draw because I was gigging, and two days spent on a longer transformation sequence. I got to try a few different hair styles, and even one in a different drawing style. I was especially proud of the transformation sequence, and the quick story that I put together for it.
There were two additional drawing I did but did not post up. They may get posted someday, but for now they’re sitting in my folder and in the hands of the people they were gifts for.
For week 21 I have an exercise I’ve been needing to do for a while. Week 21 shall be called The Fluffening! I’m going to try to create more of a fluffy outline on my characters so that they aren’t entirely smooth but look like they have coats of fur with the occasional fluffy or feathery spots at corners/ears etc.
To all the folks who watch/comment/fave thank you so much for watching what I’m doing. Knowing that folks are seeing my stuff and my progress keeps me going day to day week to week with this project that usually I just gave up on after a single week. Now we’re already on twenty one weeks! Amazing!

Double gig day!
Posted a year agoI was hoping I’d have some time to do some drawing today, but my first gig ended up being extended (crowd loved us so much they asked us to keep playing). While I appreciated the overtime pay, the downtime I was going to have was eaten up, so I’m facing a no drawing day.
I’ll try to get something done for tomorrow, in the meantime I hope everyone’s friday and weekend is just ducky!

Week 20
Posted a year agoAlready into week 20! Time has flown, and here we are again with another monday recap and goal declaration.
Last week I wanted to work on poses/stances from a book I got. I themed this all in a nerf/narf war setting with various characters of mine.
Reiher had a cross legged pose that I had wanted to do forever, and finally had a tutorial on how to do. Roxy had an ‘on the backfoot’ pose that I feel I could have exaggerated more but came out okay. Clyde and Matteo were doing the ‘hug’ from behind pose. I mean, it’s loosely a hug. Panics/Trellian was doing the lean against the wall pose. And Lupin was doing a running towards the viewer pose.
On sunday I linked some of the drawings together into a scene for a panics the duck comic. A very productive drawing week and I was overall happy with how everything came out.
For THIS week. I’m going to continue out of these same books, but I’m going to spend another week focusing on hairstyles. There is a section of this book that talks a little bit about hair, and it’s something that I want to get better at even if I don’t use it too much. There are after all characters like Roxy who are always wearing a wig.
This is the part of the journal where I thank those who watch, comment, and fave my stuff. I realized recently that my works have been viewed over 2000 times. The fact that people have even taken time to look at my pieces that often makes me smile. You’re all wonderful and keep me motivated to create more/improve my skills further. Thank you for being with me on my artistic journey.

Week 19
Posted a year agoInto week 19 of this journey.
For week 18 I had asked friends for race/class combinations of characters in D&D or Pathfinder. I drew my first insectoid character because of it, and came out with pieces that I was fairly happy with. The final piece of the week caught me in my room trying to figure out what to draw for that day.
This new week will see me doing a bunch of poses with my main cast of characters. I got a new book that focuses more on different scene types/poses for drawing, and I want to try applying some of what’s in it. So… this week I intend to do a bit of that and see how it turns out.
To all those who watch, comment, and/or fave thank you for your support. Seeing the interaction with my pieces helps keep me inspired to continue with the drawings. Hope everyone has a ducking good week.

Week 18
Posted a year agoWeek 17 was a blast. I’m starting to work on drawing an otter character, I got a wonderful transformation sequence done with a dragon in it, completed another comic, and even got a wrestler! The cap of the week was a newer version of an older piece I did of Alca surfing.
For week 18, my main theme is going to be pathfinder characters by friends do race/class combinations and challenge me to draw them. I’m curious what type of things they’ll end up coming up with.
I will also be trying to get another comic, and another transformation sequence done, but this is a 5 performance day week. It’s weeks like this that pay the rent! But there might be a few days where my post isn’t going to be shaded, but just colored in. Also the reason why I am once again posting a journal so late at night. It’s going to be a long week.
Thank you to everybody that watches, faves, or comments. Knowing my stuff is being seen and enjoyed keeps me inspired. I appreciate you all.

Week 17
Posted a year agoWeek 16 was an interesting week. Animation was just as challenging as I thought it would be, though I did have fun with the few animations I managed. Falling into the side tangent of a transformation sequence, a panics comic, and a character addition took much more of my interest, but I did make myself create, and even color in, a few different animations. I practiced a sliding landscape, a wave, an inkling shooting a paint gun, and a transformation animation.
This week I don’t have any particular daily goal in mind. I will be posting SOMETHING up daily, but I want to take some time also working on another panics comic strip, and another transformation sequence. With summer camp going into its second week, I feel like that will cover a lot of time, so my daily posts may be a little more on the silly doodle style of piece.
To those who have been watching, faving, and commenting, thank you! As I’ve said constantly, seeing people actually looking at my stuff helps give me motivation to keep doing it. It’s a journey I’ve taken WITH all of you, and I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with this current push without you.
I hope you have a ducking good day!

Week 16
Posted a year agoGetting a head start on the week sixteen journal since this week is the first week of a multi week music camp that I’m teaching at.
Week15, the Then and Now week, felt REALLY good. I was able to go back to a series of older character portraits and silly doodles I had done years ago and give them a facelift. V’neef Savo, Iktena, and Tarvis especially. I also really liked this week’s transformation sequence.
With how busy this coming week is going to be I’m not going to have the same amount of time in the mornings to do all the coloring, shading, etc on a daily basis. With that in mind, I’m going to stick with something that just uses lines and play around more with some line art Gif animations, and of course a transformation sequence because TF Yay!
To those who watch, fave, and comment, thank you for passing through and taking a look at what I do. I hope you all have a ducking good day.

Poll and test
Posted a year agoI’m curious how many of the people watching or passing through actually take time to look at the journals I’m posting, and also wondering what the people watching and passing through enjoy the most of the things I do.
If you see this and feel like you want to comment, just let me know which type of art I do you like the best.
Is it
Slice of Life: The Trio going around, doing things, and just living their lives.
Transformation: The transformation sequences I’ve been doing of late.
Panics: I know I’ve only done one of the comics, but if you liked it and want to see more, I’d be willing to redo some of those old things, or even write up/post some newer stories from there.
RPG portraits: Along the lines of The Alchemist, The spellblade, Rat Folk Warrior etc…
Miniatures: My miniature painting
Wrestlers: The various wrestlers like The Big Cheese, and The RAGE!
A big thanks to those who watch, fave, and comment even if you don’t comment on this post. I see the traffic coming through so I know people are seeing it. I’m just curious what is drawing people to peek in.
Have a ducking good day!
Sincerely,

Week 15
Posted a year agoWell, it is far too early to be awake, and yet because I went to bed early I am of course awake. So, maybe some quick writing of a week 15 journal will help my brain ease its way back to sleep.
First, a look back on to week 14. This is perhaps one of the most fun, and also most time consuming/challenging weeks of themed work I’ve done so far. I managed seven transformations in 7 days, even if they were not all sequences, and even if some technically were finished past the midnight mark. I learned SO much from doing these, and look forward to doing more when I’m not trying to get one done every day but can kind of work my way through it at a more leisurely pace.
For week 15, my theme is “What’s Old is Now New.” I’m going back through my old drawings this week, and I’m going to redo them in my newer style. A side by side of things from long ago, not so long ago, and maybe even just a month or two ago. For this week posts will have a THEN and NOW version posted together when the new is completed. I’m excited to hit old ideas I had which I just didn’t have the skill to make work the way I wanted back in the day.
To those who watch, fave, and comment thank you! It’s always nice to know that people are both seeing AND enjoying my art. Seeing comments especially always makes my day.
Have a ducking good day now! I’m going to try to get back to sleep.
Sincerely,

Week 14
Posted a year agoWeek thirteen was a fun one! Managed to get in my at least one drawing a day, and discovered something that I’ve been enjoying a great deal in transformation sequences. Transformation art and stories has always been a thing I’ve loved, but up until these last two sequences I’ve never been happy with how they have come out.
It was very nice to get a chance to draw the trio doing things again this week, Liz and Alca had been too long away from the spotlight, and while their relaxation drawing is not my favorite of them, it came out well and I learned some new things while working on it. I also remembered to SAVE the love seat background before doing the rest of the drawing so that I have the couch alone as a space where I can do things with characters now.
During the week, my three month FA anniversary passed by which is a fun milestone towards what will hopefully eventually become my first year of one drawing a day and beyond.
In week 14 I am going to spend it doing transformation sequences since I only have two gig days this week, though saturday may be off theme because i’ve got a double header, and these sequences take quite a bit of time to get to the completed and colored step.
To those who watch, fave, and comment thank you! Knowing that people are enjoying my art helps me want to keep making it. I really appreciate you all.
If any of my watchers have transformation suggestions for this week let me know in a message, or in a reply down below. I sometimes get stuck for ideas when I’m doing a bunch of the same theme during the week, and with transformation sequences especially I can imagine things I want to try, but I’m always happy to get ideas from outside of my own head.

Week 13
Posted a year agoWeek 13! Still managing to mostly do one a day even with the summer gig season proving it can throw tough weeks at me. The heat from outside gigs had me pretty much wiped out by the time I got home, and this week is also going to be a scorcher/busy one. With that said, I’m not going to have any particular goal set other than trying to get at least one drawing done a day
Week 12 was successful in at least getting me thinking more about my settings/background, but I will have to re-approach it during a week where I have more time. Wish me luck in finding that week! Of course I will continue to have backgrounds in some of my drawings as well so I get to improve more on the fly rather than through focused study. Especially against my drawing nemesis… The table!
Week 12 was also a fun week in that I won a watchers raffle from
fauxfowl whose artwork I love. They’re also taking part in this year’s artfight! I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with that. Go team stardust!
To those watching, favoriting, and commenting, thank you so much! You keep me motivated to continue on this run which is the longest drawing streak I’ve ever had.

Week 12
Posted a year agoWeek 11 was a great week for drawing! I had some actual time and got to do so many pieces. I think the ones I’m happiest with were the trio’s tasteful portraits and cats at faire though. Of course, those were the ones where I had reference pictures to work off of so… maybe I’m a cheater? The Walking home creation was also really fun though, and there wasn’t any reference picture for that one.
After a week like week 11 though, week 12 is going to be spent focusing on backgrounds Specifically focusing on perspective to make a room feel like it has a foreground and background to it. This may not be the most exciting week because of that, but I hope to have a few common locations I can set my characters at by the time this is done.
Thank you to those who watch, fave, and comment. I greatly appreciate the support, interaction, and feedback.

Week 11
Posted a year agoBack from a surprise camping kidnapping by my friends, a week of faces completed. Two sets of muzzles and two sets of beaks/bills
I need to do more research, doodling, and thinking on beaks/bills . I feel like I’m on the verge of getting something I like, but my last attempt where I tried a bust of a bird was definitely not it. Think I’m going to keep to muzzles for this week as I do my next challenge.
Week 11’s challenge is going to be soft lines. I’m going to try doing edge lines that are not always black, but instead the color of the section of a character they are part of. I’ve seen this done by a few artists I really enjoy, and want to give it a go myself. We’ll see how it goes and what it creates.
To those who watch, fave, and comment thank you so much for your continued interest. Knowing I’m being watched keeps me going, and I do appreciate the feedback and discussion.

Week 10
Posted a year agoWeek 9 was an interesting one. Without any particular goal in mind I took some time to get some mini painting done for the first time in a little bit. Most of the pictures I have posted previously were ones that were already done when I started the FA account that I just enjoyed. The ghosts were a more day of completion paint and post.
On the normal drawn art, I went to some fun places. The Conducktor was an idea that I just had to draw after I had used it to describe myself when discussing the end of school year concerts, and then moved on from there with a mix of comics (remembering) Portraits (Cooking with duck, Mr. Duck, Captain Daggertooth Hooktail), Silly scenes like Sezin Loses a Bet, and answering suggestions or challenges from other people. (Water Monk, Clashing Sabers.)
After a week of no direction, Week 10 is going to focus on heads/facial expressions. I have an entire book of cartoon facial expressions and I haven’t used most of them. This week is the week to give them a try. It won’t be the most exciting week perhaps, but sometimes skill building is taking a thing you’ve had trouble with and doing it a hundred times. If I reach a hundred I’ll be impressed.
To those who watch or fave, thank you so much. Thank you for showing an interest in what I am doing here. You keep me motivated. I know I say it every week, but it’s true.

Week 9
Posted a year agoIt’s technically monday at this point and I have an early start tomorrow so I’m doing the journal before getting sleep.
This past week was doing pieces with multiple characters. Because of backgrounds and characters in these pieces they all took a while longer to make. The final will be posted later today because it was so intense it made me have to rest my wrist for a while. Pieces of the week are:
Poison rana, Ser Cheddar Fights, Good times and bad, the hug, and upcoming is To Boldly Go.
Despite the challenge of all of these, after finishing each one I felt a sense of accomplishment. It was an excellent art week.
This coming week is going to be a bit of an art free for all. I’m going to see where I go with no particular theme since I’m going to be doing a bit of traveling. What will my mind come up with when there’s no particular theme for the week? Who knows! But we will explore it together.
To those who watch and fave, thank you SO much. Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Trellian Duck

Week 8
Posted a year agoI had alot of fun with my Sci-Fi/Fantasy week. I made some characters in various RPG classes, a Bird Bot, and characters based off 40K and Star Wars settings.
This week is actually an incredibly busy one for me, and it may be my first lapse in the one drawing a day because of work really getting in the way. To make it even more challenging is the fact that I wanted to do multiple character interactions this week. I have had quite a few pieces with multiple characters in it, but interaction in this circumstance means having points of contact such as in ‘I could have danced all night’ https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56747038/
Wish me luck for this week
Also a big thank you to those who are watching me, and those who fave things I post. You are the best

Week 7
Posted a year agoWeek seven of at least one drawing a day.
Last week was a fun week of drawing hair. From a model, to my main characters to even a ship’s captain posing for a portrait. I might do one of Liz with a wig eventually as a silly thing like with Sezin and his wig put on wrong. I would have like to do more here, but performances and rehearsals kept me from doing more than my one a day goal.
This week’s theme however is going to be Sci-Fi/Fantasy characters and outfits following up with Count Ducku and T’rel Lien the farseer. The theme’s purpose is to study outfits and designs outside of what I might normally draw (suits/t-shirts/dresses in a modern setting.) Expect alot of Cosplay from my main characters this week.
Thank you to everyone that watches and leaves faves. Even if I don’t reply in your shouts about it greatly appreciate it.

Week 6
Posted a year agoWeek 5 has passed. The goal was to work on drawing characters facing forward, as it had been a challenge for me in comparison to characters at the profile. Between Clyde, Roxy, Trellian, The Green Grappler, The unnamed fox, Ser Cheddar, and The Transformation, I got quite a bit of practice in characters facing forward.
Now we move on to week 6! This week’s challenge is going to be something I have been hesitant to tackle in general because I was even worse at it than hands. Hairstyles!
To be clear, in the general world I see my characters in, mammals have fur and not hair. However, use of wigs is similar to the use of a hat. Sometimes someone might put one on, or some people almost always have theirs on. Hence Roxy having hair.
So it’s time for characters to put on wigs for the week, and see what type of styles might be in fashion.
Thank you again to those who are watching, and everyone who has left a fave. I’m glad to see that people are enjoying what I’m posting.

Week 5
Posted a year agoLast week was action poses. I got suplexes, and dancing. Kickboxing, boxing, sword fighters, a playground fight, and still managed to get some little side projects done as well. Overall a very successful week working on characters posed to be in motion. My shading improves every time I do it for a piece as well, though I still need to do work on objects versus light sources.
This week, my goal is to do selfie shots, or just generally characters from the front view. Most of what a have done is profile work with heads turned to the side but the thing I want to improve on this week, after I finish my last carryover project from last week, is entirely pictures where the character is directly facing front.
With my first month hurdle passed, I’m heading out today to get an actual apple pencil. My cheap little stylus has served me well and will always be my backup, but I told myself if I kept with it I would splurge for that little accessory despite the price. Thank you little stylus for what you have helped me accomplish! I highly recommend a ThreePlusLink (all one word) stylus if you’re looking to try out using one, and don’t want to go for the apple pencil initially when working on an Ipad.
As always, thank you to those who watch and fave what they see here. I hope you continue to enjoy the art as much as I have been enjoying making it.

Week 4
Posted a year agoLast week I managed to make my first muscle characters, my first portly characters, and even a crooked character in the alchemist. I have also learned about translucency settings! Which can be seen with the translucent shine on the cleric’s mace.
This week’s challenge is going to be focused on action poses because of a friend’s suggestion. First is the kickboxer in pose that I will play around with and move on from there.
Thank you to those watching, and those who have even just clicked the fave. Knowing the art is being seen and might be bringing someone a smile makes all the difference in keeping me motivated to create.

Week 3
Posted a year agoAnother week of artwork trying to put at least one thing out a day, even if it’s not a completely shaded piece.
I’ve also had my first friend ask me to make something for them. I agreed, and took my time creating their character for an rpg. The three warforged images on my page are the results of this.
To anyone who takes commissions, my hats off to you. I can’t imagine trying to draw what is in other people’s heads on a consistent basis, and I was doing this in a no pressure unpaid circumstance.
In other news, my next set of projects are going to be dealing with different body types than the slim characters I’ve been starting with so I can create a broader variety of characters. Also so I can be honest with my own Trellian character in that I am not in the same shape as my youth.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Progress
Posted a year agoIt hasn’t been that long since I’ve been posting, trying to do at least one post a day when work doesn’t keep me away from it.
The lovely thing about this project is that I’ve been able to watch the characters I’m creating improve with every new drawing, and I’m finding myself motivated rather than frustrated as I often got with my sketch books and classic drawing tools.
Using the tablet almost feels like cheating sometimes, but my basic sketching has also improved so I guess it’s not entirely the technology. I may post some of that up to show as well just for examples, but giving an update to say I’m still going strong, and give a big thanks to those that have sent me notes, given faves, and especially to those who are watching me. It helps to know I’m not just drawing for the wall and someone else is enjoying my art.
Sincerely,
Trellian Duck
