Interesting - The Variety of Foxes
Posted 6 years agoI'm not speaking of the variety of fox breeds with their large assortment of fur colors. Though that certainly applies. No, I'm talking about the individuality of red foxes. See, the thing is, I see very very few artists attempt to put these concepts into practice. The subtlety of taking a single 'species' and making it realistically varied. Nature does it just fine, but being able to capture that in art is quite the challenge!

This article came up recently in my media feed, and I really felt that it was important to share. It's something personal for me, because I'm of the belief that you can make really amazing anthropomorphic fiction using only a single species of animal. You can have endless variety just like how varied humans can be, but with the features of a specific animal, or the sensory power that animals as a whole tend to have.
I would be absolutely thrilled to see an endless amount of art exercises that put the lessons of the above article into practice. Taking the realistic variety of an animal species and making a handful of unique characters that can illustrate that point.
The next time you draw an anthropomorphic creature, look beyond just your 'art style' and think about the variety that nature provides, and incorporate some of that into the character you are drawing. Most people may gloss over it, but there are definitely people out there who can and will appreciate those details.

Television - People of Earth: Aliens done right!

Now available for online streaming. I definitely recommend watching it. Genuinely funny, and only one or two 'meh' episodes in the season. Also, bonus points for anyone who is a fan of Venture Bros. You should definitely enjoy this show.

Gaming - Affordable Space Adventures, Freedom Planet, and ++

Looks like a really good deal for those who enjoyed Affordable Space Adventures at Wild Nights this year. You can get it yourself for next to nothing and it's normally $20!
I don't think I'll be doing any Wild Nights write-up, but thanks @ those who socialized with me, played games, etc. It was really nice to have a convention where I didn't ~have~ to do anything. :)

Convention - Furry Fiesta 2016: Aftermath? Anyone?
Posted 9 years ago...
Hello?
I've heard pretty much nothing from all but one person. Even Toboe hasn't told me anything of how it went. No watches, no follows, no nada. Just silence.

Convention - Furry Fiesta 2016: Room planning?
Posted 10 years ago*sighs* So I got the event planning email today. I dunno, guys. I want to attend, but I always have a tough time with roommates. I might try to look for roommates on r/furry but they're far from conservative around there lol...
As per last year, I need a roommate situation for the convention:
- Thursday-through-Monday required
- Minimal 'private time' moments (When I need in the room, I need in the room right then, plus there's lots of things I just plain don't want to see)
- Bed to myself, period (I have major issues getting good sleep, especially in the last 4-6 months, in addition to personal space issues)
- No snorers (Same reasons as above)
Maximum I can afford is 1/3 of the total, not 1/2. Preferably I'd like to pay less but the price should be settled on before the convention. If anything, put money in my tip jar, though my plans for Werewolf this year are a bit different. More management/networking, less Mayoring. I may be Innkeepering again this year, however. That was fun two years ago.
As for my Werewolf plans themselves, whether I personally attend or not, and assuming they give us the same room as before... We will be doing the same process as Sunday. Three separate circles with a focus on smaller, shorter games. This means that my experienced Town Mayors will be starting to take over for me a step deeper than last year. I love GM'ing, I love doing Werewolf with everyone, but at Fiesta, Werewolf is big. And lately I spend so much of my mental fortitude in marketing and networking and catching up with people and explaining the game, that I have been going a bit nutty by the end of the con. I want to try a new approach where I start to be less vital to the whole thing.
So in addition to the three circles, I'm going to be having a waiting area where I get people to sit who are waiting for a new game. That's right, a line. Those who get eliminated before the game is over and those who just arrived have seating priority for the next game to open up, and those who stayed alive to the end of the previous game will sometimes have to wait for enough people to become available. This is to ensure that there's a new game starting up every 30 minutes or less. I really want to improve Werewolf's reputation as being tough to get into a game of and a huge time commitment. I don't like that in many past years, it can be 2 hours or more of waiting before you can even play if you have bad timing. So circles will have limits (one 'big' 15-20, two 'small' 10-15) and I'll have to play things by ear outside of that.
If the sound system is used at all, it will be for managing when new games are starting, and if applicable, Show Games. That is, pre-scheduled big games such as a 25-person No Reveal or a 30-person 'Quick Death' game. Is there anything in particular that people would like to see in regards to that? ... Well, I'll ask more about that later. Obviously I need to resolve the roommate situation first. Can't do anything with the sound system unless its actually there.

WotDA - The Totem of Insanity, a lesson in design
Posted 10 years agoSometimes, dreams can hold legitimately good ideas. Take his one as an example. Within the dream, there were tons of bad Werewolf roles, such as one that wins if there's more people alive in the North/South/East/West of the village than the other side. Or the role that for some reason only stole the role of a very specific other role. But one benefit of dreaming is that you can think of things in ways you normally wouldn't.
The latter of those two seemed to spark something during the dream. My problem solving side kicked in and for some reason it suggested the Shaman becoming the Crazed Shaman. That actually sounded a little cool, so how would it happen? The source of his insanity in the flavor of the art is from his totems. And if you're having a random way for him to become the Crazed Shaman, then it's obviously going to come from the totems. So we add an 8th totem, the Totem of Insanity. But what does it do? What happens when the Crazed Shaman gets it?
The first one to solve is what happens if the Crazed Shaman gets it. It wouldn't be right to dig it out of the stack of totems when also using the Crazed Shaman. So it has to do something for the Crazed Shaman as well. Sticking to the flavor of insanity, the Crazed Shaman would be even crazier when he draws the Totem of Insanity a second time. So how can he act with insanity when he's already doling out totems with complete disregard for the consequences? Well, what if he is forced to give one totem to himself regardless of what the other two are? Totem of Death, Totem of Confusion, Totem of Insanity? Tough! You still gotta give one to yourself. You are so crazy that you don't even care! Yup, that works for me. ~INSANITY~
Moving on, what about the totem itself? Does it do anything? My first thought was that it doesn't ~have~ to do anything to the person who gets it. That wouldn't be all that bad. But that seems like weak design. Surely I can come up with something for the Totem of Insanity to actually do to the person who gets it, right? So if someone is insane in a village where there are Werewolves going around killing other people, like visibly damn insane, the village would be much more willing to get rid of them. So what can we do vote-wise that we haven't already done? We have things to affect personal voting going outbound, but what if something affected the voting pattern against you directly? And how many times have people tried to vote on themselves when ~trying~ to act insane? Well here's your chance. Lets make the Totem of Insanity cause you to need one less vote in order to successfully lynch you. :)
So that pretty much covers all of the bases except subtleties and timing. As a note, I wouldn't recommend running this variation all of the time, as it does moderately change how the two roles play. One, it gives the Shaman a new way to lose, since the Crazed Shaman can't win. Two, it takes away a ~bit~ of the Crazed Shaman's power and fun.
Totem of Insanity (Black)
If the Shaman draws the Totem of Insanity, he will transform into a copy of the Crazed Shaman (even if there's already a Crazed Shaman) at the start of the next Night Phase. (This gives him a chance to still win on the Villager team.)
If the Crazed Shaman draws the Totem of Insanity, he will be required to give out at least one totem, and be required to select himself as one of the targets for totems that night. (He can choose to only give out one, but that target must be himself.)
If you have the Totem of Insanity in front of you, votes to lynch you require one less vote in order to be successful.

Anime - Fall 2015 First Impressions Delayed
Posted 10 years agoI intend to do a small handful of first impressions posts, but currently I have an injury that has been aggravated to a point of needing an ER visit and a long-term splint. Computer use (mouse, typing) among other things has been severely limited as a result.
On another note, I'm looking forward to these new watch options. I hope that everyone will take the time to sort through and tweak their settings. I will also be far more likely to watch friends when I can follow journals and ignore submissions. Hopefully those who watch me will continue to allow my journals to appear since they're intermittent, self-tagged, and usually quite relevant to a large portion of those who took the time to watch me. :)

WotDA - "Werewolfklacon"
Posted 10 years agoSo, first off, just heard the news about Oklacon. Kind of ... interesting that that was the final result of things. I can't say I'm surprised by it, but there's been a lot of poor behavior at all of the camping cons in recent times. I don't think the public sex incident is really the only bad thing, just the last straw. That said, let me just head off any rumors now, I'm not the person who contacted the other park. I wasn't even planning on attending this year. While I have my beefs with the con itself, I was just going to ignore it and let it fizzle on its own.
With that aside, I also must state that no, Werewolfklacon was not able to happen either. I couldn't find a proper venue, nor could I properly reach out to those who would have been interested. I lost the ability to preplan and advertise during the Furry Siesta chaos. So while I'd love to provide an alternative to Oklacon for those who really wanted to play Werewolf, I don't have any clue how to make that happen. If someone wants to help me arrange something for late October or early November, I'm willing to give it a go (and call it something other than Werewolfklacon I guess :P) but please note that I can't do it on my own. :)
The next time I'll be seeing folks is Furry Fiesta. And I'll be running things differently this coming year. There will be three small groups within the big room (assuming that's what I'm given again) and I will be orchestrating rather than GMing personally. I may have some show games planned, but overall I need to reduce my stress level at cons by delegating more. I can socialize with people and explain the game to them while letting other people actually host games. I may be doing Red Dragon Inn again next year during the day, though. That worked well two years ago and there's going to be another 8-9 characters bringing it up to ~28 or 29 total to choose from, including a lizard anthro.

Anime - First Blog Entry!
Posted 10 years agoI've had it in mind to create an anime blog for a while. I watch so much of the stuff, and I'm generally quite opinionated, so I figure if I share those opinions and share my interest in these anime series, that I have an infinitely better chance of making friends who also watch a lot of anime than if I just sit around and only watch.
It's a bit of a challenge for me, because I don't usually put a lot of my thoughts into words, but I'm fine with a challenge! One of my biggest hurdles might be trying to recall all of the character names, though. I keep them straight but I watch so many that I can't tell you character names to save my life.
Oh, and as an extra note, I generally don't notice things like music or animation quality. It'll mostly just be summaries and cliche warnings and stuff unless something really stands out as being bad. I have... very flexible tastes due to excess free time. I'll generally watch ~15-20 series in a single season. I'll try not to overly flood my Werewolf fans with anime stuff, but I'll definitely be posting a lot at certain times of the year.

Personal - 1 Month 'Vacation' in Dallas
Posted 10 years agoI wanted to let those that might be happy to hear this know that I'm currently in Dallas! I'll be here about a month as part of a sabbatical, a break from the mundane day to day that I've been stuck in for the last year or so. I want to get out and be social and hang out with new groups across this month. I haven't really been involved in the local furry scene in the Austin area due to all of the segregation and privacy that just doesn't sit well with me. I know that Dallas is very open and encourages public attendance and I love that new people are so welcomed.
I'm currently staying with Zapper and Hart in the Duncanville area, but I have no problems with driving anywhere in the DFW metroplex for a decently fun time. I'll even pack my sleeping bag and pillow if need be. But really, I do want to get out more and do new things. I'll be staying here through Furry Siesta and I will be heading back home immediately following that to resume responsibility on events locally.
Looking forward to hanging out with some of you. :)

Personal - What's the point of friendship?
Posted 10 years agoIn this day and age, where everyone already has more friends than they have time for, and where they view friendship as this shallow thing you spend 5 minutes out of a week interacting with someone, what is the point? Has society really changed so much in ten years that there's so few people willing to put the time and effort into direct contact with someone you get along with?
There have been many times where I've gotten along with someone, and they can't be bothered to spend even 2 minutes replying. But at the same time, there's been plenty of people I've done the reverse to. Being able to click with someone and have a close friendship seems impossible when those I might get along with are already so socially overloaded that I can't even get their attention for those first two minutes. Nevermind the time that it truly takes to form a bond with someone.
Even those I think I might get along with from conventions, I'm lucky if I hear 2 words from them outside of the cons. Toboe, Hart&Zapper, and probably some others, I've tried to contact them and I get zero interest in socialization. I'm frequently anti-social, but that is largely in regards to contact with those I don't have a completely unguarded approach towards. And those I can have an unguarded approach towards either want nothing to do with me after seeing that side of me, or simply don't have the time to involve themselves with me.
From those I'm close to, I like regular contact. And more and more in today's society, people are losing that time to focus on the bonds of friendship, leaving friendship as a joke. A selfish placation of others desires. I tire of it. I haven't made a new 'friend' in over 5 years because those I have attempted true friendship with already have more than enough people to satisfy their time, and modern internet users do not value regular contact through messengers and such.
The days of spending time with people through the internet seem to be gone. Messengers are passe and now we just talk AT our friends in random bursts and don't expect anyone to read or reply to the things we say, nor do we appreciate when they do. I texted someone recently after seeing they were hitting a rough spot and I didn't even get a text in reply to it. I went out of my way to notice, and approach someone that has been nice to me, and it was unrewarded.
So in the end, what is the point of friendship? I get criticized for only being close to people who I want to have a romantic relationship with, but from my own personal experience, I cannot get ~anyone~ to pay my the proper amount of respect for the emotional investment I try to apply. Why would I spend that energy on anyone that could not be a life partner for me when I'm painfully single and painfully alone?
Maybe I'll get into that topic another journal. Being alone. Why it hurts, and how wanting someone as an active part of your life shouldn't be seen as clingy. *sighs*

A nice little side sale directed at us floofy fuzzballs.
I own 11 of these, now you can too!
$8 each, with $5 shipping flat out. Now's your chance to get a few of the ones you happened to miss. I can't promise screen printing, but it's more likely they'll get screen printing in a sale like this than when you use the digital catalog. Chances, I think, theoretically go up for screen printing if a larger amount are purchased during this sale, so please share it with your friends! :3

Convention - Wild Nights 2015
Posted 10 years agoAll confirmed for Wild Nights. This year scheduling is going to be a little more freeform. We'll just be playing Werewolf whenever there's enough people that want to play it. I will be running my Town Mayor Training panel again this convention (someone record the thing! ;P) on Saturday, and I'll be bringing my sound system. Beyond that, it'll just depend on who wants to do what.
I'm thinking I'll make 2 batches of puppy chow. If there's any flavor in particular that people would like this event, let me know. Otherwise I'll be sticking to much more standard flavors than Furry Fiesta. :P

WotDA - Need Werewolf-related motivation o.o
Posted 10 years agoI have to prepare outlines for the two panels at Furry Fiesta and I'm sorely lacking in motivation and focus. Anyone around to talk about Werewolf stuff and help me to get in the mood to work on these things? >.>

Convention - Furry Fiesta 2015 FINAL SCHEDULE!
Posted 10 years agoI have a lot of stuff going on this year and I basically got all of the space and times I could possibly want. BE SURE TO THANK THE CONVENTION!! The short event list will be in the first section, with the detailed event view in the second. Both sections will have clickable titles leading to the Facebook Werewolf Events page so that you can keep track of it with your modern social media and calendars.
Oh, and as a heads up, Puppy Chow will primarily only be available during spectator events and panels, with special access to those who are helping fund my convention costs. I'll only have 4 batches this year, and they likely will not be pouched like last year. Flavors are: Mint, Peppermint, Pumpkin Spice, and Apple Cinnamon.
Thursday, 9pm-5am - Main - Social and Silly
Friday, 4pm-6:30pm - Panel #1 - Town Mayor Training: How to be a Great Werewolf GM (Required to GM the Overflow games / Required to own the PKD Promo Pack)
Friday, 8pm-9pm - Panel #2 - Why Should I Play 'Werewolf'?
Friday, 9pm-1am - Main #1 - New-Player Introduction Games, Limit 25
Friday, 10pm-3am - Overflow - Advanced Games
'Friday', 1am-5am - Main #2 - Option Games
Saturday, 7pm-10pm - Main #1 - No-Reveal Game, Limit 30
Saturday, 8:30pm-5am - Overflow - Basic Games
Saturday, 10pm-5am - Main #2 - No-Reveal Games, Open Mayor
Sunday, 8:30pm-3am - Main - Open Mayor Games
*Thursday - Main - Social and Silly
--9:00PM - ~5:00AM
--Waterford Room, 2F
For the first evening of the convention, I will be hosting games with a relaxed light-hearted atmosphere. Expect plenty of use of the Wild Roles following the warm-up game for new players.
If the games are large enough, expect Princess, Knight, and Dragon to see some use. Also, if there is a need for it, and the room across the hall is open, there will be overflow games.
NOTE: This is the only day that we will be in the Waterford room in the back portion of the hotel.
*Friday - Panel #1 - Town Mayor Training: How to be a Great Werewolf GM
--4:00PM - ~6:30PM
--Garden Court - Inside, 1F
Always wanted to learn the basics of hosting Werewolf games, but haven't managed to get my attention to sit down and teach you? Hosted games before and just aren't sure where you're going wrong? Curious how I manage to do such a great job when I host? Come to this panel!
This is also currently the only way to obtain the Princess, Knight, and Dragon promotional card pack. You must attend the event and also pass a test on things discussed in the panel. (Careful, some questions are intentionally tricky or trivial.)
*Friday - Panel #2 - Why Should I Play 'Werewolf'?
--8:00PM - 9:00PM
--Garden Court - Inside, 1F
If you've never heard of Werewolf before, or if you've only loosely heard about it, stop by this panel and see what all the hype is about. :)
Werewolf is a great way to hone your intellect and social skills in a condensed social experience of deduction and deceit. In this panel, I'm going to discuss the various social benefits gained from this type of gameplay as well as some history of what Werewolf has done for me personally.
*Friday - Main #1 - New-Player Introduction Games, Limit 25
--9:00PM - 1:00AM
--Garden Court - Inside, 1F
If you've never given Werewolf or even Mafia a chance before, now is the best time! Join myself (Tobias) and only the nicest of my advanced players (:P) for a few rounds of Werewolves of the Dark Arts catered towards first timers.
WotDA is a great way to hone your intellect and social skills in a condensed social experience of deduction and deceit. If you're too shy to take part yourself, even after the introduction panel, at least stick around and watch for a round or two. It's a lot of fun to me in the midst of the mystery!
The new-player games will be limited to only 25 people, but we will be sure to alternate who is playing so that all of the new people get a chance to play. Additionally, spectator seats will be available for those that just want to watch.
*Friday - Overflow - Advanced Games
--10:00PM - 3:00AM
--Garden Court - Outside/Hall, 1F
While the New-Player games are taking place in the main Werewolf room, the overflow area will be where you'll be playing if you already know the game. The other event will be capped at 25 players, with flexible arrangements being made on-site for the overflow games.
This event will be located in the open area immediately to the side of the Garden Court, and potentially also in the hallway nearby depending on final arrangements.
Additionally, ONLY people who have successfully passed the Town Mayor Quiz at either Oklacon or Furry Fiesta will be allowed to assist in hosting the Overflow games for this year. If you are planning to help host on either Friday or Saturday, and did not previously attend the Werewolf GM event at Oklacon, you will need to attend the Furry Fiesta GM event.
*'Friday' - Main #2 - Option Games
--1:00AM - ~5:00AM
--Garden Court - Inside, 1F
After the New-Player games conclude, I will be introducing the most enjoyable of the "Mystery" style games, the Option game. This will be many players first foray into a limited-information approach to the roles in a game, creating gaps for the Evil guys to crawl around in and massacre everyone.
How an Option game works:
The deck with identity cards consists of two parts. The Core Deck, and the Option Deck. The Core Deck consists of cards that will 100% for sure be in the final deck. The Option Deck, however, has many more cards than what is needed to complete the Core Deck. While you are told what the Option Deck consists of, it is shuffled and a certain number of cards from it are randomly added to the Core Deck to create the Final Deck that gets dealt out.
Example:
You have 7 players.
Core Deck - Werewolf, Werewolf, Seer.
Option Deck - Villager(x4), Heretic(x2), Bodyguard, Oracle, Sorceress, Fool.
Final Deck - Werewolf(x2), Seer, Heretic, Villager(x2), Sorceress.
Normally such a combination for the final deck would be an instant win for the Werewolves, but because no one knows the exact contents of the Final Deck, the game can still be won by the Villagers.
*Saturday - Main #1 - No-Reveal Game, Limit 30
--7:00PM - 10:00PM
--Garden Court - Inside, 1F
The climax for the convention, WotDA will once again be holding an epic No-Reveal game on Saturday. To participate, you MUST be able to stay for 3-4 hours. No-Reveal games are intense, because the only information that you will ever get from anyone is what they've said and done. Role cards are not revealed when someone dies, so you are never informed if they were telling the truth or not. And if they died before saying anything? Oh boy...
For those interested in this game, take note that it is starting MUCH EARLIER than last year. A big thanks to the convention for being able to make this happen for me. This means that the game should be much more accessible for everyone.
Additionally, overflow games will NOT be starting until 8:30PM. This game is not only supposed to be epic to participate in, but also epic to watch. Spectator seats will be arranged for this game. Additionally, a time limit of 30 minutes will be imposed for the first THREE day phases to make sure the game progresses.
*Saturday - Overflow - Basic Games
--8:30PM - 5:00AM
--Garden Court - Outside/Hall, 1F
The No-Reveal game WILL take a while. We all know that. So what can you do aside from watch the insanity? (Well worth it, in my opinion) Or what if you don't want to play in such a serious game? No-Reveals are certainly intimidating, and aren't suggested for those who are new.
Well, we will have some overflow space for simpler, easier games. These games will be fairly new-player friendly, so don't worry too much about having played before or not. So if you're wanting to learn the game, you'll still have an easy time jumping in. ♥
*Saturday - Main #2 - No-Reveal Games, Open Mayor
--10:00AM - ~5:00AM
--Garden Court - Inside, 1F
Once the main No-Reveal game is complete, I (Tobias) will be passing on the headset to a certified alternate Mayor and joining the No-Reveal fun. Assuming I am allowed to live for a bit, I can make most games I play in very memorable. :) Do look forward to it!
The rest of the night will be No-Reveal games, though the Overflow room will continue to be available to those who have no interest in the No-Reveal game type.
*Sunday - Main - Open Mayor Games
--8:30PM - 3:00AM
--Garden Court - Inside, 1F
Last day of the convention. We're all plenty tired. And for one day of the convention I want to sit down and enjoy playing games instead of just hosting them. I mean, I love hosting, but that's not the only way to teach the game to people. Some things can only be taught while being an active player.
So on Sunday, I'll be opening up the main area for volunteer Town Mayors. I will be giving preference to those who have bought a copy of WotDA so that they are able to get some experience before heading off on their own, or to those that have passed the Town Mayor Quiz.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I, for one, will only be up until around 3AM rather than the usual 5-6AM for this day. That means the sound system will be broken down around that time, however those that still haven't gotten enough Werewolf are welcome to continue to play following that. Also, we should still have access to the overflow space in case we need to make use of it.
Q: Where are you staying?
A: Main hotel
Q: When will you be arriving and leaving?
A: Thursday / Monday
Q: Who will you be rooming with?
A: DarkSpirit / Arutheus
Q: Where will you be most of the time?

Q: Will you be drinking?
A: Don't drink.
Q: What is your gender?
A: Male
Q: How tall are you?
A: 5'9"
Q: If I approach you, will you chat with me?
A: If it's about Werewolf? Definitely. Otherwise I may be a little anti-social. I'm also really dense, so if you're a gal and flirting with me, I probably won't realize it, in spite of enjoying such things. Derp. :P
Q: If I see you, how should I get your attention?
A: Raise one hand and point with the other. Or just say 'Tobias', since I can pick out that word a half mile away. XD
Q: How many furry conventions have you attended?
A: Many. :3
Q: Do you own a fursuit?
A: Nope.
Q: How can I find you?
A: Headband, fancypants/shorts, and long hair.

A: Nope.
Q: Can I look in your sketchbook?
A: I just have badges.
Q: Can I take your picture?
A: During Werewolf, yeah.
Q: Do you do do free art, trades, commissions, badges?
A: N/A
Q: Do you have a table in the Artist Alley / Dealer's Den or a panel in the Art Show? If so, what are you selling?
A: Nope, but Fablefire will be there this year.
Q: Do you plan to volunteer?
A: That's pretty much what hosting Werewolf is.
Q: What's your goal for the con this year?
A: To have fun. If I'm lucky, I will have an even better time than last year. Depends on who I meet, though.

Convention - Furry Fiesta: Room planning time!
Posted 11 years agoAKA: I don't have one, yet! Not sure what to do, to be honest. My roommate won't be going this year, so I really don't know what I'm gonna do for a room. I've gotten so used to having an entire bed to myself, but that's probably not feasible for this year, lol.
Anyone have ideas? Offers?

WotDA - I still need...
Posted 11 years agoI still need the following:
1. That recording of the 'prank' game.
Tanktheorca recorded it, I think.
2. Feedback about the How to GM panel from
khonasfox,
toboewolfsbane(?),
alsek and
041744,
hartthefox, as well as from anyone else who has things to add. Mostly I'm looking for what I forgot to talk about during the panel itself, as well as questions I wasn't sure about the answer on (like something regarding the Hunter in a No-Reveal.)
3. More suggestions on which games to post the story of. This should be done sooner than later so that the games are at least somewhat fresh in my mind. Just tell me some of your memorable moments and I can probably work from there.
I'll be a little slow to respond, and I'm probably forgetting something here... But anyway! Time for the Nintendo Direct! I'll get to a few notes I was sent following that.

Convention - Oklacon 2014 Summary
Posted 11 years agoOverall, I have to say that the convention was a lot of fun. It was nice to feel that much support from those who have been introduced to my game. It makes me happy to see so many people trying to learn the cool social tricks and skills that Werewolf can teach, and not just people who want to win or screw around. Y'all put my local group to shame, but don't tell them I said that. ;)
Werewolfklacon - This will be fleshed out across the year. If it somehow is cancelled, I'll make sure to let you guys know. Theoretically, it will be a 3 day event in the Dallas area as an alternative to Oklacon. I will be taking next year off, as well as several other people, and it's happening to make sure we don't feel like we're missing out on that weekend. So we'll do a Fri-Sat-Sun sleepover, with a big focus on Werewolf and social relaxation. Those from the convention understand the full logic behind this, but if you have any questions, send me a note. Also, feel free to suggest a name. Werewolfklacon, WotDAcon, 8-Player Lynch, Werewolfxacon, Lynch-Land, I dunno! There's no telling what this could become, after all. Good to think of such things in advance. ;P
Tips - If you wanted to tip but were unable to at the convention, send me a note and I'll point you in the right direction.
Werewolf Tales - There were some pretty epic games during the convention, but well, getting home tends to reset the brain and cause a lot of memories to fade quicker than they should. If you have a specific game that would make for a good story-journal, give me an outline/reminder in a comment.
Mayor Mastery - The GM panel went over VERY well, but there were a few things that I was supposed to take notes on and didn't. If there was something you think I didn't go over clearly, or forgot altogether, leave a comment. That panel was a beta for Furry Fiesta, and it will be run again there. I'll likely be tweaking the quiz some based on feedback, and adding a few other points to the outline if I happened to miss something completely. Oh, and there were a few rules questions I wanted to look up when I got back; does anyone remember those? I think one of them involved the Hunter in a No-Reveal?
Puppy Chow - I'll probably have 5 batches for Furry Fiesta. If you want to suggest flavors, now is a good time.
Kay, that's good enough for now. Supposedly, most of you watch me here on FA. Take some time, leave me a comment, and help me improve. Feedback is teh-awesome, okies? ;D

Convention - Bad news about Oklacon
Posted 11 years agoFirst off, I AM still going!
Okay, now that I've put aside your initial fear on reading the journal title... There IS still some bad news. Over the months leading up to the convention, I did not hear anything whatsoever about programming. I reached out several times during the last three months, and was met with silence and deferrals. So here it is, the night before the convention, and I don't even know if they want me running Werewolf.
I will still be in attendance, so if there's anything unsatisfactory about event scheduling, it's going to be ENTIRELY up to you guys, my fans, in order to acquire the things we need for Werewolf.
Additionally, if you are interested in Predator versus Prey and were unhappy with the previous year's events, I will be bringing my PredPrey Kit, and if the convention wants to improve the game, I am selling it for $100.
Beyond the normal nightly Werewolf, which I have no clue on the times or location of (and the website's schedule is all over the place and somewhat idiotic looking) I had also put in for a Friday panel: "How to be a good Town Mayor (Werewolf)" - 2 hours estimated time, a fairly basic setup, and a quiz at the end for those wanting to earn the Princess, Knight, and Dragon promo cards. I've got a panel outline and the quiz printed out, so I'm hoping to get 10+ to show up for that. I need to teach some new folks about the art of Mayoring! :P But yeah, I doubt that made it onto the schedule because, well, it's Oklacon. :| If the con's attendees weren't so awesome, and I didn't love the camping environment, I wouldn't go. I do wish they'd get their shit together, though.
Edit: Oh, yeah, and I never heard back from then on registration. They didn't comp me last year, and they wouldn't credit me the time spent hosting panels (that I use my own expensive gear for), so they probably won't be comping me this year. Donations/Tips to help pay for the costs of the con are very appreciated. Last year was awesome on that front. I'm also bringing three batches of puppy chow: Amaretto, Mint, and Toffee.
WotDA - Wild Nights Tales #3: We Are Anonymous
Posted 11 years agoWow, I totally forgot to post this story here. Also, it's already almost time for Oklacon. Only about a month away. I've put in my request for event time at Oklacon this year, but I'm going to be much more relaxed about accepting what I'm given. It's up to you guys to fight for me as host, and for as much time to play as possible. I'm not as young as I used to be, and I will be doing what I can to teach others to host Werewolf during this convention. I'll be hosting a "How to GM Werewolf Properly" panel and recruiting new mayors that way. Anyway, enough with the news update, time for the story:
This time around, it's a game I moderated, rather than a game I participated in. This game involves the following three characters: Princess, Knight, Dragon. What do they do? Some of you know, but for those that don't, here's the rules behind them:
· The Princess and the Knight know who each other are.
· If the Princess dies, or if the Dragon dies, then the Knight also dies.
· If the Princess would be targeted to die during the Night Phase, instead consider the Knight to be targeted if the Knight is still alive.
· The Princess and the Knight both win if the Princess is alive when the game ends, in addition to the normal winners.
· If the Knight dies and the Princess is still alive, the Dragon makes one kill during the following night, before the Werewolves.
· If the Dragon dies and the Knight is already dead, the Dragon makes three kills immediately.
· If the Dragon kills the Princess, the game ends and the Dragon wins.
I will have to keep this one brief, because I forgot most of what happened that game. Alas, it is not the one where the crazy grandma (who was the Cult Leader) was related to the rambunctious daughter (Werewolf) who had a lot of kids (Werewolf Litter joke) but anyway. We'll skip straight ahead to a dead Knight from a few turns back and about 10 people left.
With an active Dragon and so few people alive, one would think you might hesitate about eliminating a potential person as the Princess. At 10 people alive, however, they kept announcing what they were in a believable enough fashion. The Witch stated their role. The Thief. A few others, as well. The village took a guess between around 6 people, and missed the last Werewolf. At night, the Werewolf killed another unknown. Why? Because the Seer was still one of those unknowns.
Day comes, and there were now 4 people that the village couldn't figure out who was who with. Werewolf. Seer. Princess. Dragon.
The Werewolf speaks up, and claims Seer. He narrows it down to the real Seer and the Dragon. The real Seer remained quiet, I forget why, but I know that their personal knowledge had it down to the Dragon and the Werewolf. Realize that the Dragon could also try and get in a Seer war, so it's not as simple as going "He lied about being the Seer, he must be the Werewolf!" There were several antagonists and liars still alive that game.
The village accuses the Dragon, who earlier when accused gave a semi-convincing defense. But this time around, he purposely fumbles it a bit. Hesitation, stuttering, things that a Werewolf might do who was actually pegged by the Seer. And well, the real Seer really wasn't sure if this was the Dragon or the Werewolf.
Voting time comes around, and of course the Thief votes. The Werewolf votes. And two others vote. It passes, just barely. With the Dragon killed, he now gets to choose three people to die. Well, he really only has three choices. The three who wouldn't speak up about their roles the previous round. Bam. Seer. Bam. Werewolf. Bam. Princess.
So while the village had been rid of Werewolves, the Dragon managed to kill the Princess and steal the victory. The fabric of the universe fell apart and for possibly the first time ever, the Dragon has succeeded in his ultimate goal.
Moral of the story? If you narrow things down for the village, you also narrow it down for other roles. This goes for the Werewolf hunting the Seer, and for the Dragon hunting the Princess.

Furmeet(?) - Video Gaming? Board Gaming? Anyone? :3 (Austin)
Posted 11 years agoI'm feeling a lot more social in recent weeks. I wouldn't mind hosting a little something at my place. Either video gaming - I have some fun stuff on the Wii U, though I can also set up the Wii for Smash Bros and a few other awesome things like 4-player Pipe Dream or "Muscle March" XD -- or maybe board gaming - Cosmic Encounters, Carcassonne, Dominion, Tales of the Arabian Nights, "Smiley Face" (lol don't ask), and a few other things.
But right now, I'd like to know who, of those that watch me, would be interested in hanging out for a day. Probably a Friday or Saturday some-time-in-the-future. And if you're able to hang out, what would you be interested in doing? Do you have friends you would be able to bring? Things like that. I've got cool stuff and free time, but I'm really really bad these days at motivating people to hang out. :P

WotDA - FurCoNZ Tales #2: Never Trust Your Neighbors
Posted 11 years agoHere's the other crazy story from the convention. This time, I'm an active participant in the chaos.
FurCoNZ Story #2:
Never Trust Your Neighbors
I was letting one of the deck purchasers get a shot at some Mayoring and slipped myself into a game. A lot of the smaller details escape me, so this one will be rather rough around the edges. I was the Shaman, and from just about the start of the game I was suspicious of the gal next to me. Skitters.
My one chance with Totem of Death was like, night one, and I used it on someone else. My suspicions were light, I mean, not everyone who tries to be buddy-buddy with the game's maker is evil, right?
I am probably mistaken in the order of the following events, but here's the gist of it... Three Werewolves, and I was starting to notice some very subtle misdirection going on. I pressed very hard on Skitters and I was told by the 'Wolves later on that in that one turn, I pegged all three wolves almost back to back and majorly freaked them out. That night, the 'Wolves were set to kill me, but Skitters - surprise, one of the 'Wolves - had them kill someone else because I had put so much pressure on her. "No, kill anyone else, but if you kill him, I'll be next!"
Now, realize, this group is a social group, not a logic-heavy group, so in other situations, some of what follows may not have been logical by the evil guys, but sometimes that can make things really fun. Also forewarning, there were a few Mayoring mistakes, but nothing that ruined the game IMO.
Morning comes, and the Seer calls out a Werewolf. Not Skitters, but another guy. I back up the Seer because why-the-heck-not. The 'Wolf counters by throwing it back on me and the Seer. Did I mention there was a Turncoat this round? Yeah. That's important. Oh, also did I mention I gave the Totem of Cowardice to Skitters? Twice actually, but I can't remember if it was the round before this or the round afterwards. I think before this, and that's part of why I was pushing so hard to lynch her then. And then it was something other than Protection. And then it was Protection twice (with the second one given to myself rather than the other Villager but I'll get to that) and never Death. Sadface.
Where was I? Oh right, Seer with no protection other than me having just called out a Werewolf. Well, I still wanted to lynch Skitters but we didn't have time. Good was dropping fast and I was concerned that through her clueless act that she was maybe just the Turncoat. So I agree to push to lynch the Werewolf, getting knowledge that myself and one other in the Village were non-'Wolves. Three Werewolves, (Evil) Turncoat, Seer, Heretic, Villager, Shaman. We need 4 votes to lynch with 8 alive, I even emphasize this, but we actually end up getting 5 votes. The Werewolves were scared and still fairly new. But that makes this more fun. The evil Turncoat didn't even vote, and good was majorly outnumbered. Ah well. Dead Werewolf.
That night, I draw the Totem of Impatience, rather than the Totem of Protection. I hand it to one of the two people I think are Werewolves. It goes to the Turncoat but I was suspecting him a bit more than Skitters. She's playing me quite well. Day comes, and I immediately accuse the last person to vote on the previous round. Supposedly he was second-to-last and Skitters was last, but I could only look left OR right, and they were my neighbors. But he was very unsure about voting. The Turncoat didn't vote at all, so that's why he got Impatience. We vote, and as I feared, only myself and the Villager raised our hands. But with 6 left, we lynched... another Werewolf. Yay! I can maybe win!
5 left, I draw Totem of Protection. Damn, I soooo wanted Death. I give it to myself. Day comes, no one dies. And then I realize... The numbers still aren't on my side. Maybe the Turncoat is Good? Maybe...? >.>; We go to lynch Skitters and (Mayor mistake alert) the Cultist didn't get shown the Werewolves so they were downgraded to a Heretic. But Skitters claimed Turncoat. o.o; I even got her to say it. Heretic knows nothing so I can't rely on them. Well, the other guy hasn't claimed Turncoat so... let's just kill him! We voted, Skitters voted, and it was... the real Turncoat. Ouch!
But the silliness/absurdness doesn't end there! Oh no, not when I'M playing! I draw my totem, hoping hoping hoping for Death or Influence or something. I draw Protection and... fail. I give it to myself, and when day comes, the Villager is the one slain. I could have saved everyone, if only I had been risky! But no! So, instead, it's me, a 'Heretic', and the Werewolf.
A staredown happens. Thinking quickly I yell out: "I'm actually the Werewolf, kill her!" and accuse. The audience does their best to hide their major wtf looks. I continue to press, hoping to take advantage of inexperience and win over the Heretic. And then Skitters says something that makes me grin. Not that I had much of a straight face to begin with making such a ridiculous claim.
"But.... ..... I tried to kill you at night and you didn't die........?"
"BINGO! Exactly!!" I smile as I enthusiastically explain it to the Heretic. After all, I know when I'm beaten, and I'm here to make sure everyone has a good time. "Because the only way for someone to not die is the Totem of Protection, and because on the turn that someone didn't die I had a Totem, that means that I was supposed to die. And because Werewolves cannot target themselves, this means I absolutely CANNOT be the Werewolf. You are exactly right and I now submit to the forces of Evil."
Ahhh, that game. So much absurdity trying to fight through an evil-dominated village. I never realized how much the Turncoat can screw with a normal game. I might have to run with him more often.
Time to pack up, and get my head on straight for my trip back home and subsequent Furry Fiesta preparations. I wish some of the local group would go to the con, just to see this slightly-less-than-optimal socially-driven gameplay mentality. :D
Fantastic artist friends, go watch them! DO IT! :D

WotDA - Wild Nights Tales #2: Dueling the Guest of Honor
Posted 11 years agoWild Nights Werewolf Tail #2:
Dueling the Guest of Honor
I remembered another fun game from Wild Nights. This one involves the Guest of Honor, the Carspeckens (they draw a really cute fox comic).

I had been hanging out with the two of them the entire convention, and Robert was determined to take part in at least one game during the convention, as thanks for my help with various things, and because it sounded fun. But it took until Sunday afternoon due to GoH stuff. After watching one of the earlier games, he finally got a chance to join in.
I made a point to also play in this one. And no, I'm not mean enough to get the GoH killed right away, regardless of his role. We start off managing to kill one of the two Werewolves. It's a game of about 13 or so. From there, stuff happens, and the game is down to 6 people. I'm a Villager, and while I'm a little hazy on this particular round, I think it's the turn the Seer came out.
Seer tells us that one person is not a Werewolf. That person was the Bodyguard. (Assuming I'm correct here, it had to have been.) We end up lynching a Villager, and the Werewolves kill the Seer. I think he said he wasn't able to protect him. As a note, we also had the Warlock in the round. So the last four were Bodyguard, Warlock, Werewolf, Villager. The Bodyguard had announced who he had protected with no clear bluff to it, so it we didn't kill the Werewolf, then as a Village we were going to lose.
The Warlock accuses me. I defend myself, and tell the Warlock "I'm on your side!" all while also winking at the Bodyguard. My goal is to trick the Warlock into thinking I've been the Werewolf all along. It comes to votes, and the Werewolf (oh yes, I forgot to mention, Robert Carspecken is the other Werewolf!) of course raises his hand. But the Warlock .... does not.
I admit, I actually felt really bad. Robert totally had that game won. Evil should have been able to lynch me no problem. But those who have played with me know how rough it is to play with me, and why the Warlock believed me. Well, open accusations, I accuse Robert and tell the Bodyguard I just lied to the Warlock and that he's the Werewolf. Two votes, dead Werewolf, game over.
But augh, I still feel bad about that one. Like I somehow cheated. I mean who EVER heard of a Villager claiming Werewolf, HMM? :P Actually the irony here is that we talked about that exact strategy before that particular game began. To be able to use it is rather silly. :3
