Posted 7 years agowhat do you get when you combine a small ornamental lamp (non functional because it's so small), translucent amber acrylic, small LED bulbs (3mm square), wood, brass and a migraine?
If you know the answer thats awesome! because I don't lol.

Steampunk Knife
Posted 7 years agowith the help of decently priced materials, cheaper then what I wanted (had to be since I'm broke until Friday and I reeeeeally wanted to give this a try) and stuff I had laying around, the knife I started on the 26th is basically finished. The handle and decorations are done but I might do a little more with the blade. I kind of like how the blade looks right now though, it goes with the old/rustic ish look of the handle. The main thing that I need to do now is make a sheath for it but sadly I don't have a thick enough leather right now so that will have to wait a couple days.
And just a heads up, I WILL be offering this for sale when I post the picture of the finished piece,
***REMEMBER, THIS KNIFE IS PURELY FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES ONLY IE COSTUME ATTIRE***
There is NO edge to it, it is NOT sharp at all! The main reason for this is that the blade is made from aluminum that I acquired at a hardware store, it is VERY soft and a sharp edge would bend or break with little to no effort at all.
I will also make perfectly clear at the time of posting what the minimum offer I will take will be.
I also need to take measurements of it as I didn't really take any when I was making it, I eyeballed probably 98% of it lol
For the time being I'll direct you to the teaser pic I posted a few days ago of the roughed out blank for the blade.

depressing myself
Posted 7 years agoI almost wish I hadn't found the youtube channel that I mentioned in my last journal.
I am having soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many ideas of things i could make, designs are flashing in my head while I'm at work, on breaks I'm catching myself looking online for supply prices and then I look at my money..................ya *headdesk*
who knows, I might eventually be able to give one of my ideas a try.

Renningers Steampunk Show
Posted 7 years agoWent to the Renningers antique market today for their Steampunk Industrial Show with
HeartsTreasure and she was gracious enough to be my handler as I suited in public for the first time ever, it was also the (sort of) debut of Tic-Toc 2.0
I think I now know what it's like to be a pop fur at a furcon. It took us about 30 or 40 minutes just to go about 200 feet through the event, damn near everyone was stopping us to get pictures. Needless to say the suit was very well received, except by a dog that couldn't quite figure out why there was a giant rabbit lol.
Unfortunately it never occurred to me to pull out my phone to have someone take a picture of me and Hearts to post here but at least 100 will probably be getting posted somewhere and I'll grab one when I see it.
Also, for my first public suit outting I was rather impressed with going non stop for about 2 hours in suit, the blower fan I got is awesome and definitely a life saver. And an unexpected yet very welcome effect of the fan is that it blew so hard that it kept the dripping sweat out of my eyes, just blew it off to the side which was super awesome. I was also worried that the battery pack wouldn't last very long because of how hard the fan blows but after 2 hours it wasn't even down to 75% yet so super happy about that.
After today I can't wait untill the next outting

I must enjoy self torture or something
Posted 7 years agoI have come to the conclusion that Tic-Toc, in his current form, will stay just the way he is, too fluffy for his own good with seams popping left and right because I didn't use strong enough thread and a weird patchwork head thats only held together with hot glue, hopes, and dreams and hand paws that would only really fit the hands of the creepy butler from the first "Scary Movie" movie. But thats what I get for making the whole thing with essentially scraps over the course of 5 days with absolutely zero building experience what so ever. Between the head and feet I literally used about 8 pounds of hot glue and the ears, made with thermo plastic and leather, by themselves, were heavier then the rest of the head and oh boy did my neck hurt at the end of MegaPlex lol.
Where the prolonged self torture comes in is I am not going to revamp anything, head, hands, feet, tail, pants, nothing. I am instead going to start anew, use stronger thread, lighter materials (like foam ears instead of plastic and leather and find shorter fur so I don't have to shave as much. I am also looking into different makers for a resin rabbit head base. I like the Suffed Panda Studios base but as was pointed out by many people, if you looked at Tic-Toc head on, the eyes looked like white balls instead of eyes. perfect example of this https://www.furaffinity.net/view/28255591/
I still want a resin base because I like the rigidity of them and I found a different type of fan that should work beautifully to keep good air circulation, that and I want to keep using the head harness that I found for my first go around, that thing is actually pretty comfortable.
Where the idea of redoing the whole thing came in is for my plans I would have had to strip all the fur off the resin base anyway and that would have been a colossal pain in the ass with all the glue I used lol, much much easier to order a new one and wait a couple weeks for it to come in. The hand paws needed remade anyway for the reason I stated above lol. The pants, if you saw the inside and realized from the top of the thighs to the waist was about 20 pieces frankensteined together you'd laugh as much as I do about them. The feet are for the most part perfectly fine except for the sole I put on the bottom, I was told dozens of horror stories at MegaPlex about how little time that stuff lasts. And the only thing that I will actually be kinda sad to toss to the side is the tail, I'm actually pretty proud of that short fluffy nub :P
However, by now looking for a shorter pile fur to use, matching colors will be next to impossible but this time I can make sure to get enough to do the whole thing instead of crossing my fingers and hoping I can find the same color at a later point in time. If you saw it in person but didnt notice, the tan fur in the pants was a different shade then the tan everywhere else, it was a couple shades darker and a much coarser fur called Mongolian Shag. We learn from our mistakes and carry on and the ideas I have for Tic-Toc version 2, well, version 1 will look as bad to you as it does to me right now. It doesn't look too bad but it's extremely flawed and I'm honestly surprised it's still holding together

improvements / revamps / surprises?
Posted 7 years agoall ambitions of mine after the reactions I got at MegaPlex to my fursuit of Tic-Toc.
A few seams definitely need reinforcement, the hand paws need remade entirely (they were WAY too small) and the head....................
Well, the head is an entirely different story. ALL of the stitching needs reinforced, a better and longer zipper needs to be installed, possibly the fur and pattern on the face will change, a different fan (possibly a 9 volt instead of a 4.5 volt for better air flow) and a couple surprises that I wont mention until I can show them. I never really intended this to be a finished project but one that evolves over time, who knows where it might go

Realization
Posted 7 years agoI may not be able to suit Sunday, my hotel room is only till Sunday and checkout is 11am. whether I'm in suit at checkout or not in suit I won't have a place to change. I may just suit anyway and give people a show and strip in my car before I head home after closing ceremonies.
Oh, and to not give anything away but if your at MegaPlex go to the closing ceremonies. Something HUGE is going to be announced!

MegaPlex day 0, pre con
Posted 7 years agoWasnt really planning on suiting but decided why not, and you know what? The ventilation on my suit head SUCKS! If I didn't absolutely NEED glasses because I have double vjsion. it wouldn't be bad but the second I put the head on the glasses fog up instantly blinding me. I ended up going without glasses which definitely made things interesting, like missing high fives lol.
Other then that though the suit is getting great compliments from tons of people which makes me super happy along with getting stopped a LOT for pictures and hugs, even by the hotel staff lol.
But the highlight today by far was when 2 little boys probably 5 or 6 came running up yelling "oh my gosh, a bunny!" That was just too cute.

Updates
Posted 7 years agoGot 3 updates
First off, I got my business card website done enough that I went ahead and made it live. Still need to add some things but it's essentially all there.
Second, MegaPlex. Will be showing up Thursday to pick up my badge and wander a bit. If you are going and want to hang out a bit or do something drop me a note.
Third, my incessant procrastination. I started something almost a year ago and it was originally the entire point of this account, a character/fursuit account for a bunny named Tic-Toc. It was going quite smoothly and quickly, you can see the progress in my gallery but then a hurricane hit and all my inspiration and drive to finish it got sucked out and after a while I just kind of forgot about it. I wanted to finish it of course but my mojo was gone. But just like every year I started watching old con videos as I got more excited about MegaPlex but this year I got drawn more to fursuit building videos and after about a year, the bunny isn't dead. No pictures this time, spending too much time trying to finish the damn thing. And I still have no idea how to do some things but I'm determined to debut Tic-Toc at MegaPlex this year. But let me tell you, doing this give me MUCH more respect then I already had for builders. Anyway, I'm done burning my fingers with hot glue tonight, sleepy time now.

New ID/Logo
Posted 8 years agonot sure how far things will go with it but I created a brand logo and a twitter account for it, absolutely nothing is posted to the twitter as of yet but maybe that will change.
Over time I plan on consolidating all my various arts and craft projects into this account. I had a previous account for that but I trapped myself with the name, especially since I'm mainly doing business cards and such right now. My last crafts account was
CrimsonLeathers kind of hard to sell the idea of custom business cards when people see "Leathers" in your name.
Anywho. off to sit infront of a cutting machine for about 4 hours lol

Posted 8 years agothe lack of updates is not due to me forgetting. Between the hurricane 2 weeks ago and things going on at work my motivation to do just about anything outside of work is pretty much gone. This is not being abandoned by any means as I really REALLY want to do this, I just need to find my mojo again.
Pause is sort of lifted
Posted 8 years agonot entirely, but my plans on getting the hell out of Florida for the hurricane fell through along with my tank of gas disappearing literally overnight. I couldn't leave right now if I really really wanted to so I had to cancel my hotel room, thankfully before the deadline, if I hadn't I would have been charged $100 to cancel the room.
So no, things are not technically on pause any more. After getting things at home fully prepped I'm going to get bored super fast so the no brainer would be work on the head mostly to keep my mind off things and to help pass time.
sadly I have to go into work tomorrow even if it is just for a few hours to prep the business, thankfully I have enough gas to do that.

Temporary Pause
Posted 8 years agowell, it's that time of year again, Hurricane season! I will be putting a pause on making my fursuit head for about a week or so.
In the place of creating I will be busy prepping my house for Hurricane Irma and unless it takes a drastic turn to the north or north east it looks as though it will be headed straight for Florida. I have an offer to stay at a family members house in the south west part of North Carolina but so far just about all the computer models for the hurricane have it going right over that house so I might actually go into Mississippi and cross my fingers. I stayed home last year for Hurricane Mathew and got lucky it didn't make landfall, I was lined up exactly west of that one when it was the closest to land and it was pretty bad. Irma though, looks as though it might shoot right up the middle of the state. I'm more toward the north of the state in the Daytona Beach area but with a storm this size and strength nobody in the state will be out of it's path, everyone will get hit to some extent.
I'm crossing my fingers that it takes a sharp turn out to sea though. If I have to evacuate I'll be flat broke for at least 2 weeks but it's better to be safe.
If it hasn't turned enough by Thursday night I'm leaving the area.

words of wisdom
Posted 8 years agoheed my warning. if you want to stick something, like fake fur, onto a surface with hot glue, but want to be able to remove it later on because you only put it there to see what it would look like.
DO
NOT
USE
GORILLA HOT GLUE
I know that should be a "Gee Tic-Toc I thought you would have known that, thats some strong stuff!"
but apparently I didn't really think about it too much. The black patches I put around the eyes in this submission
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/24692000/
were never intended to be permanent. It took almost 2 hours to get them off.
However this actually serves 2 points.
1. never use Gorilla hot glue for temporary things
2. use Gorilla hot glue for the final thing because it will definitely NOT fall off on it's own

first attempt
Posted 8 years agoOther then being intimidated as hell by the necessity of the rear hood and neck on Tic-Toc's head I think it's coming along quite nicely.
As the title of this journal states, this is my first attempt at ever making a fursuit head hence the many many many progression uploads in my gallery. I want as many "in progress" submissions as I can remember to make. if you see something I might be doing incorrectly or have suggestions on how to do some things better I am open to critique and comments as this is obviously a learning experience for me.
But that being said. I am rather happy with how it is turning out so far, especially since i have never dabbled in anything like this before.

Furry McFurface
Posted 8 years agoAmazon prevails, I just got an e-mail saying that the fur I ordered is on a mail truck and is getting delivered today, 3 days earlier then the original projected date of Saturday. This is both good and bad. Good because I can start getting the fur situation straightened out, patterns and cutting but the clippers I have I had to order a thicker blade since the one I have is WAY too short for fur, I use it to shave my head lol and I have no clipper combs. It was actually cheaper to get a new blade then to buy a comb set but the blade isn't getting in until Friday.
Sooooooo, if I start getting the fur put on tonight then the head is going to be a giant unruly fur ball for a couple days lmao, definitely going to post pictures of it though HAH

Progressions and possibilities
Posted 8 years agoI am rather pleased with how quickly I'm getting things put together, i wasn't expecting to be this far for at least another couple weeks. This goes to show you how determined and eager I am to finish my personal head. I also buckled down and (hopefully) bought enough fur to complete the head, 3 yards total, 1 yard of 3 different colors. Why I say hopefully is because for just the ears I'm going to need just over 1 square foot, but with the use of some leather embellishments it will be cut down some but I also wasn't really taking into account the back hood part either *shrugs* Amazon will prevail if I run out lol
I also noticed something that wasn't really intentional but it makes me happy. Everything thus far that I have used in the creation of my head has been made in the US and knowing that, I plan on keeping using the same materials in the future.
And something that I wasn't really thinking about with starting this. I had only intended this to be a personal project and make this a suiting account but now........
I'm enjoying making this so much, I havent had my creative juices flowing like this in YEARS. Depending on the final outcome of this head I have been thinking of the possibility of creating a premade head or two and putting them up for sale. It will just be a head though as I have absolutely no clue how to sew so that would have to fall into the hands of someone who knows how to do that. The premades will of course be made with the same quality and TLC that I am putting into this one and with the head harness that I am using they will fit pretty much every size head without major modifications, simply adjust the straps.
Anywho, that will be all for now. If the Amazon shipment tracking is accurate (which it usually is) I'll have the fur by Saturday at the latest and this is a long weekend because of Labor Day so I probably wont be able to put it down all weekend, I'm expecting it to be finished by the end of Monday *crosses fingers*

the intent of things to come
Posted 8 years agowell, no reference will be posted any time soon, I am doing something that may be considered a little odd. Or even more odd then a bunny that doesn't bend over for others.
I have found suitable supplies to start the creation of my head. I have many ideas, I have most of the supplies, I do not have the fur but that can be remedied, I even have foam to pad out the resin blank I purchased. I however do not have the knowledge of making a head but I excel at discovering things with a hands on approach and I love problem solving.
After the completion of my head I will of course post pictures of it here, I will then choose an artist to create my reference sheet based on my head. I am rather excited to get started on it. My resin head kit should arrive in the mail today.
I understand that this journal will only be seen by a very insignificantly small group of people considering that right now I have zero followers, but I still wanted to post this. I have done many many many arts and crafts projects but nothing as ambitious as making a fursuit head. Who knows, if it goes well I may consider making them for others ^_^

Hello World
Posted 9 years agoMy name is Tic Toc,
since I am new around here i'll let you in on a little of my backstory.
I am an anthropomorphic rabbit with a deep rooted fascination with clocks, old ones. Some may call it an obsession, others may call it a crutch, I call it a passion and here's why.
I always knew I was different from the other rabbits in my warren, they were too easy swayed to be the meek and timid creatures everyone wanted them to be, they were weak. But not me, oh no. To give into the pressure to lay down and take whatever I was told to do, that wasn't me. My clocks told me of a different time, one a long time ago where rabbits were strong and we didn't give in so easily to the bigger species.
Before I found my clocks I was just like them, meek, shy, submissive, but no longer. Now I am the one in control of my life, they have no power over me any longer.
In time, after I get a little more comfortable, I will reveal what I look like.
