PaintChat - Quick* How To
Posted 19 years ago*Depending on how fast you read, it may not be quick.
Short answer where to get - http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA01...../download.html
Long answer - That is the newest version, which isn't to say it's the best version. That version has an annoying flaw in it. When one person changes layer opacity, ALL people have their layer opacity changed. I use Version 3.63 which is no longer available on that site. I can send you 3.63 which does not have that problem if you want.
If you use the Java version(and I have never used anything but) you must make sure JAR files are NOT associated with WinRar or whatever archive program, you must install Java Runtime Environment from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
After installing that you may have to reset, not sure. Unzip it into a directory(C:Paintchat or whatever). Run the PaintChat.Jar like an exe file.
When running go to Options-Config.
Set the password to whatever you like
You can set admin chat master though I have yet to figure out how to use it.
check Sever Cach Line, Server Log Line, Server Load Line.
If they are all in japanese... you want the three on the right. Make sure the 4 on the left are unchecked.
Client Image Width/Height I have set to 2000 each.
Server Cache Text Size 2000
Server Cache Line Size 2512000
Client Permission should be(without quotes)
"layer:all;layer_edit:true;canvas:true;talk:true;fill:false;clean:false;"
Lobby Config - Make sure all unchecked. You don't want your paintchat listed.
Close paintchat.jar, run paintchat.jar
You can access it and your friends can at http://YourIP:18000
Saving is done through Printscreen and pasting into a paint program. THERE IS NO UNDO, But there IS a right click before you let go of the left mouse buttor while drawing a line. That will cancel most lines. Right click on the canvas to select a color that is there. Combine joins a specific square area of all layers onto the layer you are currently on. Do not use Visible Layer Merge, use Combine instead.
Do NOT clear an empty canvas, do not clear without having drawn on the canvas and having been in for more than a minute.
Do not erase on a layer above somebody while they are drawing in that spot under it.
Sometimes with 4 layers or more some people have trouble getting the log to load fully, especially people using Opera(Don't Use Opera for paintchat) and people using a Mac. Mac Users may have to download a new version of Java Runtime Environment and force their system to use THAT instead of the built in Java. Do a search on Mac Java. I don't know about Linux people.
Ask people to draw a countdown from 5 to 1 or 10 to one before erasing. This will save time if you decide to make a "log" of the canvas. I save everything on mine... EVERYTHING even if the artist didn't think it looked good and erased it(which is a pain in the ass to get back some times)
There is a log viewer, if you like paintchat I will try to help you use it. It's clunky and poorly made but it works with enough effort.
