The Furry Fandom is this...
Posted 14 years ago"We are Furries. Resistance is Futile. You will be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own."
We are just like the Borg of Star Trek fame. We can take anything, any genre, any interest and any fetish and make it Furry just by adding ears and tails, in it's most simplistic form. If a new trend already has ears and tails, all the easier to assimilate into the fandom.
What this means is that we're a vast, slice of society with different backgrounds, coming together under one banner that seems to describe a common interest. It means that there are going to be aspects of this fandom that turn us on, make us curious, test our maturity, make us think outside the box, or down right disgust us.
What's great about this buffet of creativity is that if you don't like one dish, you don't HAVE to put it on your plate. At the same time, while it's your personal right to say the chicken on your plate is overcooked or the vegetables are too buttery, it's immature to complain that the baked fish you passed up in line is yucky simply because you don't care for seafood.
So enjoy the Free buffet that is the Furry Fandom. Take what you like, put it on your plate and enjoy it. By pass what you don't care for and pay it no mind. The buffet is designed to have a little something for everyone. "We are the Furries. Resistance is Futile."

This MLP thing is just another fad the fandom will roll through...like Lion King, Brother Bear, Pokemon, Over the Hedge, and other media crazes that have impacted this fandom in their wake.
It's fads like these that made this fandom and bring new blood and life into it. It's why this fandom is able to sustain itself.
Right now the story and characters grasp the hearts of thousands of fans and believe me when I say that the vast majority of Bronies sneer at Furry and wish this fandom didn't attach itself to MLP like a festering pimple.
There's a little quip I'd like to share with you that might shed some light on your consternation.
"And this too shall pass."
Leave the High School mentality and drama at the door. Focus that energy on something more constructive.
Sheesh!

Um...NO! The news media has stopped being representative of the people of this nation decades ago. Get a frickin' clue.

I used to click on them, marvel at the cuteness, sometimes two or three times as they're reposted by those who are featured in them.
Not any more though. It just makes me wistful as I'm not in them and that makes me sad.
I don't want to be sad, and there are plenty of other submissions to click on and +fav. :)

Tired of waiting a week for the newest episode or re-runs of your favorite new cartoon? Well follow the adventures of Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Flutter-Shy, Rainbow Dash, Apple Jack, Rarity and the rest of the cast of characters as they tweet about their day to day lives in Ponyville and Canterlot.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. O'Rly now??
Posted 14 years agoAccording to official shelter reports filed with the Commonwealth of Virginia (where the PETA "shelter", if you want to call it that, is located), PETA took in 2345 animals, of which 44 were adopted out, 2,200 were killed (euphemistic word used in report is "euthanized"), and 63 were transferred out of the shelter. PETA's kill rate in 2010 was 93.81%.
Copies of Official Commonwealth of Virginia reports here:
http://petakillsanimals.com/downloa.....llsAnimals.pdf
Article on PETA's record here (they haven't updated the article to show the 2010 numbers yet, reports just came out)
http://www.petakillsanimals.com/
According to the combined yearly totals (since 1998), PETA has taken in
29,823 animals into their "shelter", and killed 25,840 of these for a kill rate of 85.1% - a rate that I would suspect is among the highest in the country (even shelters in the deep South typically don't have a kill rate above 60% if that.)
And PETA is the strongest lobby for legislation telling breeders, farmers, etc what they should be doing??!!
Make sure these numbers get spread far and wide!!!

Went out with my SLR over lunch...
Posted 14 years ago...and walked over to Station Square to the CSX lines along the river. The plan was to get some shots of the engines with the city as a back drop rather than Station Square.
A mixed freight rolled through east bound before I reached the river. That's fine. Don't panic. It means the track'll be clear in 20 - 30 minutes. I'll catch another. Just be patient. I get down on the old platform, find a good spot and a bench to stand on to get a shot over the railing, and wait.
And wait...
And wait...
And wait...
I hear a NS Intermodel screaching up on the tracks behind me and behind the buildings. Already too late for that one. Don't get distracted. You're watching the CSX right of way. NS trains are black and boring. :P
More waiting...
I snag some pics of some of the downtown buildings while I wait, but I can't wait any longer. I have an hour lunch and a 10 minute walk back to the office. I take some photos of the Smithfield Street Bridge, working some compositions with the positive and negative structural arches, and such. Keep walking back. Take a couple shoots of the bridge through the trees with manual focus to blurr the bleak foreground trees. Have to see how those turn out.
Head for the office...that's when a west bound CSX rumbles into view across the river. Too far away and through the trees to get anything worth while. I shake my head and laugh. Not my day for trains.
*Hugs*

[PGHFurs] Poll: Feb 10 Fur Meet - Ice Skating?
Posted 14 years agoHey folks! I'm always looking for new ideas and places to meet and have fun here in Pittsburgh. I keep forgetting about the Schenley Skating Rink right up the road from where we normally meet on Thursday nights.

Thursday nights from 7-9pm is their "Family Night." Admission is $4 to skate and they do have rental skates available for $2.50. (Hockey Skates are available for rent)
I have a poll up on the PA Furry Forums to see if there's enough interest to follow through with this. http://www.pa-furry.org/node/2028/p.....schenley-skati
I'll give them a call this afternoon to see if mascot costumers would be allowed on the ice during the skate and post an update here with the information they give me.
This could be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to your input.
Thanks!
