Posted 13 years agoPosting a reminder to see if we can't drum up some more interested furries and fursuiters to come and participate in the Wampum (PA) Community Christmas Parade being held this Saturday, December 1st.
http://www.pa-furry.org/node/4105/p.....ristmas-parade
Don't miss out on this fun-filled parade full of receptive parents and children who keep calling for us to come back year after year after year. If you can join us please send an e-mail to Noob; blueshepp AT gmail.com
The weather is looking good with temperatures in the 50's. No suits are necessary to participate; wear ears and tails if you like.
We've had a couple fursuiters drop out of the line up at the last minute and really would like to ensure we have a good showing!

Western PA Furry Weekend 2013 Announces New Dates and Venue
Posted 13 years agoLocal furries and friends!
I am pleased to announce the dates have been changed for the Western PA Furry Weekend next year in order to accommodate our new single location venue.
The Western PA Furry Weekend will be held October 11, 12 & 13, 2013!
Our new location for Friday and Saturday will be the Allegheny County North Park Lodge
http://www.alleghenycounty.us/parks...../np/lodge.aspx
With this NEW location we can keep the outdoor atmosphere that makes this event unique and combine it with the comfort an amenities of the Hotel function spaces. Plus this location triples the Square Feet of function space providing the event with plenty of room to grow! The lodge is two levels, heated and offers use of a commercial kitchen and cooler. There is also plenty of parking, a nearby athletic field as well as other Park Amenities that may be enjoyed.
The North Park Lodge does not have overnight accommodations. It is simply a large, two story, enclosed pavilion. The event is currently researching hotels near North Park for attendees to stay the night. This location will be announced after prices are negotiated and a room contract is signed.
The organizers of the Western PA Furry Weekend are excited to bring this news to you and we hope you are also.
Thank you for your attention.

WPAFW 2012 Wrap Up!
Posted 13 years agoMother Nature made up for her lack of attention last year and provided us with a fabulous weekend to host the Western PA Furry Weekend 2012. (With all due respect to Mom N, as she can kick my furry little tail, she's only let us down twice in twelve years. Thanks Mom.)
The staff and I wish to thank the 98 furs from Pennsylvania and the surrounding States and Canada for attending and making all the hard work possible. I'd also like to thank our Charity Raffle Staff, everyone who donated something for this year's raffle, and of course our attendees, on behalf of ClarionPAWS, for their generosity in helping us to raise $2,230.00. Another new record amount.
As I announced at Closing Ceremonies, this will be my last year as Director of the Western PA Furry Weekend. I believe for something to continue to grow and flourish, new leadership, energy and vision need to be put into place. I believe the organization has found an individual mature enough to take the reigns of the event and keep it vibrant and viable. The WPAFW will make that selection official at our Follow Up meeting later this month.
It has been a joy and pleasure to foster this event and watch it grow over the last twelve years. It has provided a great opportunity to make new friendships and watch furs come to the event, relax and enjoy themselves. I won't go too far though; I have already been told that the event would like to retain my services in a smaller role.
So the Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend 2012 is in the books. Next year we'll be hosting it the weekend of October 4-6, 2013 at a New Venue, a New Hotel, and under New Management! (All of which will be announced at a later date...but we're all excited about the possibilities! We hope you are also!)
Thank you!

Farewell to PandaGuy. Your presence will be missed.
Posted 13 years agoLong time fandom organizer and fursuiter
PandaGuy passed away yesterday from complications from his long battle with diabetes.
I had known him from my advent into the Fandom in 1996 palling around and RP'ing with him on newsgroups and email lists, joining him and others at cons for dinners and spending some time with him several years ago during one of my business trips to the DC area.
His PandaGuy's Picnics at Glen Echo Park back in the late 90's provided me with the inspiration to begin the Western PA Furry Weekend in 2000. He was also one of the furs who helped me hone my skills as a fursuiter and bring life to the characters I portray.
Sadly our lives and interests led us in different directions over the last decade and we have not had the time to interact as we once did. But I have always thought fondly of him and never forget that his involvement with the fandom has shaped my own.
My condolences go out to his close friends and family as they grieve. Be at peace now Jon, your legacy lives on in the heart of this fan and the fandom as a whole.

[EVENT] Witch in the Wall Children's "Boo Walk" - Pgh, PA
Posted 13 years agoHello friends!
Fursuiters and Costumers have again been invited to participate in this year's Witch in the Wall, Children's "Boo Walk" around the local streets and alleys of quiet Aspinwall, PA. Children, and their parents, walk a mapped path where they encounter costumed players for a fright, a laugh, or a hug (Where we come in) just in time for the Halloween festivities. If you don't have a fursuit, but do have a great Halloween themed costume, that's perfect also.
This event is being held, weather dependent, from 7pm to 8:30pm Thursday, October 25, 2012. We will meet at the Aspinwall Borough Building, 217 Commercial Avenue, Aspinwall, PA 15215, at 6:30pm. There will be accommodations to change into and out of costume. Afterwards if folks are up for it maybe we'll head down the road for dessert at Kings or Eat n' Park.
Fursuiters are encouraged to make time to attend and take advantage of a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the magic of interacting with children while in character. Handlers are also needed as portions of the streets and alleys can be dark.
If interested, please contact Swift Fox at swift[AT]swiftsden.net by October 15th so I can give the coordinator a rough head count. We will welcome anyfur who chooses to attend.
Thanks for reading! Hope you can join us!

Posted 13 years agoHello!
The Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend is accepting auditions from DJ's attending our event and interested in spinning a set for our attendees. The event is September 28-30, 2012 and is held just NE of Pittsburgh, PA.

Posted 13 years agoI commissioned
kingfreza to do a PJ drawing of Swift. I've been waiting patiently as she works through her queue and I think I'm next.
It's the first commission I've had done of Swift in a while and I'm really, really, really looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I've been told that in order not to fall into obscurity, I need to give my watchers something to watch. I'm sure this is going to be just the fodder most are looking for. *grins*
Given the great job she's already done on
KennyKitsune's commission I can't wait to see how mine turns out.

Anthrocon 2012...The TL:DR Report
Posted 13 years agoIf you say you didn't see me at the con, you're probably right, but you may be wrong.
Silaria and I got the the con Friday through Sunday by around 9am. From 10-Noon I was running Looney Labs in the Gaming Room, from Noon - 1pm I was running around and/or grabbing a bite of lunch, and from about 1pm to 5pm Friday, Saturday & Sunday I was in suit.
So if you didn't catch me at Looney Labs, or in that hour while I was running around, or when I was in the headless lounge cooling off, then you might have missed me on Friday & Saturday afternoon bopping around in one fursuit, or on Sunday taking photos in Ashes.
I was back for a couple hours Friday night to meet up with a few friends for drinks at Tonic, but for the most part, my evenings were spent home with Edan & CJ or out with
Colley and
wayward having dinner.
Overall...I'll take 12 solid hours of fursuit time. Scratch that...I NEEDED 12 solid hours of fursuiting time given how this year has gone. I enjoyed every fuzzy moment of it too. (My body is screaming at me today, but it was totally worth it.) All my fussing over whether I would be able to bring my newest character to life was dispelled. I'm also finding I'm losing touch with who Ashes is/was as some of the new character is bleeding into Ashes character and I found myself doing a lot of resetting on Sunday afternoon.
But anyway...Anthrocon 2012 was an excellent experience for me which seems to have been a theme with all the friends I talked with who were also there.
It was great seeing everyone...too many names to name you all I'm sorry, but you know who you are.
I hope to see many of you again as the year progresses and most definitely at MFF in November!

At Anthrocon!! Whoo Hoo!
Posted 13 years agoYeah, it's kind of a moot point I know. I walked through the Westin and the Omni today over lunch. I didn't see anyone I recognized as overtly "Furry." Once again the Engineer's Society of Western Pennsylvania International Bridge Conference is at the Westin and the DLCC until tomorrow.
So a shout out. April, Ashes and I will be at AC. April will be bouncing around the convention Friday and Saturday while I have a place to change into and out of her. Ashes will be at the con on Sunday.
I have no plans for the convention except for the Border Collie Photoshoot Friday at 2pm in the DLCC just outside the Headless Lounge, the Fursuit Parade on Saturday and dinner with a friend on Saturday night. I'll also be running Looney Lab's Games Friday & Saturday mornings 10-Noon and Giant Pyramid Games Sunday morning 10-Noon.
I expect to be at the con over my lunch breaks Wednesday & Thursday but at the con for good Friday morning as I have dog agility class Thursday night which trumps AC.
It's Anthrocon. I try not to make plans because the con is just too big and folks, even myself, get pulled in so many directions. If you see me in or out of suit, come up, say hello, give me a hug, it'll be great to see you and spend an "Anthrocon minute" catching up before the convention tides sweep us on our way.
I have no idea what's going on with the Babyfur stuff at Anthrocon. I'm that out of the loop now. While I appreciate you asking, don't be surprised if I tell you I haven't a clue.
I hope everyone has a safe trip to and from the con and an enjoyable experience full of memories to take home with you.
*Hugs*

Local Animal Shelter seeks to commission Feline Mascot
Posted 13 years agoUPDATE to this Journal Entry: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3479976/
The folks at the Beaver County Humane Society have clarified that they are looking for someone to build a toony feline mascot costume for them to replace the one that was discarded.
According to Bryan he has seen us at the Wampum PA Christmas Parade and is impressed by the quality of the costumes we've presented.
I know one local costumer was going to touch base with him and he told me in his e-mail he would be responding to her after he drafted his e-mail to me.
But that's the scoop. If you're a Fursuit Maker looking for the opportunity to put a costume built for an organization outside the fandom on your resume; here's a great opportunity.
Bryan may be reached at bchs63[at]comcast.net
Please spread the word.
Thanks!

This appears to be a legit request from a former charity of the Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend. I know there are a few locals with some very nice domestic feline fursuits out there who would be a real hit for this organization. Your charitable contributions at the WPAFW have helped them realize their dream and they are currently in the process of moving into their new facility.
This is an excellent opportunity for some positive PR for the Furry Fandom and to get out and interact with the Pubic.
If you are interested, I have included Bryan's e-mail in the message above. Please feel free to e-mail him. They are a little busy ATM, so if you get an automated response from him, don't fret; he'll get back to you.
I will post more information if it becomes available as I have asked for some clarifications of my own.
Thank you for your interest.

PM her for details but I suspect she's like Amazon gift cards to help offset the cost of padding.

SamToxxtheFoxx is havin' a contest. But be warned...following his instructions may lead to short skirts, white blouses and brown sashes. But the cookies make it worth every embarrassing moment.
