"Lessons in Lace" is back in production!
Posted 11 years agoAfter a five year hiatus, Lessons in Lace is back in production. I had two and a half pages written to start off "Day 5" and in an hour and a half I've doubled that. Chapter 1 should come in at a little better than 3000 words, which is about what I shoot for; ~six pages per chapter, six chapters per day. Give or take...mostly give.
I re-read the entire series up to Day 5 in an effort to re-familiarize myself with the characters, the style and where the story was going.
I'm pleased to say that with all my anxiety and trepidation regarding completing this "project" I just needed to get out of the stressful job position and push myself to just wade on in and start to write. As the words slowly progressed, the scenes began to materialize in my mind once again and the story is beginning to flow.
I'm still hoping to wrap the "Lessons in Lace" series up with this installment, but I'm also open to letting the story help guide that, once I gets rolling forward full steam.
I am looking forward to bringing this to a conclusion so I can meet my promise to myself to finish it so I may look inside my imagination for new story ideas, or actively take commissions for others. After a decade or more of authoring stories in this fandom, being an author is finally getting some positive attention.
Thank you for your patience while life sorted itself out.

Furrymate Warning! [SCAM]
Posted 11 years agoRe-posted from another FA User:
(I was not a victim of this Scam personally)
-pays for furrymate membership so he can chat with the people sending him messages-
-doesn't receive inbox messages from people that he did BEFORE paying for membership-
-cancels furrymate account by sending email to them, as per their site rules-
-almost immediately receives more messages in my inbox on the site-
-talked to TWO IRL friends about what messages they've gotten in their inbox, and you guessed it, THEY ARE FROM THE SAME "PEOPLE"-
yeah...it's all coming together now....sleazy scammers....fake profiles....robbing people of their money....
if you have an unpaid account on furrymate, i'd bet that you have gotten messages from some/all of the following:
cococat, melodi, mialana, hyper, pamala, relliapurr
because it's a scam.
DON'T JOIN FURRYMATE, THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY AND BABIES DX
seriously though...don't give into this scam...i feel so naive for doing it, and i hope none of you go the same path
Repost if you'd like, to spread the word....people need to know about this

Babyfurs! Need a good story to read?
Posted 12 years agoI've been enjoying a few fine stories from a new writer to the Babyfur communuty
vexxus
His story Aran's Abrogation has been a very good read so far. He's posted 13 segments to his FA account starting with this one: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12299940/ He's further teased those of us who are wrapped up in the story that he has 23 segments completed and is still writing.
"True Colors" is also a fine story to enjoy while you wait for the silly Indian Hare Puppy to get around to posting more of Aran's tale.
Anyway, go, follow the links and enjoy.

Fursuiters and Handers Invited to First Night Fursuit Frolic
Posted 12 years agoWhat: First Night Pittsburgh, Fursuit Frolic
When: December 31, 2013 from ~7 - 9pm (Could run later if we're having fun or want to get cocoa & dessert after)
Where: Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
http://www.pa-furry.org/node/7732/f.....fursuit-frolic
There has been a good amount of interest in getting a group of furs and suiters together to frolic around the festivities in Downtown Pittsburgh during the First Night Celebration. First Night is held annually by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust on New Year's Eve as a family friendly way to ring in the New Year.
http://www.firstnightpgh.org/
If you wanted to get into the various cultural trust venus that will be open during the First Night Festivities you can get in on all the fun for $8 before the event, or $10 at the event. All proceeds go to raise funds for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
We'd keep it simple and just bounce up and down Penn Avenue and interact with the guests for a couple hours.
After the fun we can head out to an Eat n'Park to maybe grab some hot cocoa and desserts?
Here's your advanced warning. If you need to arrange the night off with work, now is the time to do it.
[UPDATE-12/17/13]
1. I'm having trouble getting someone from the Cultural Trust to contact me. I have just sent a message to Joe at Toonseum to see if they can provide us with a small room we can use for a few hours as a "Green Room." Short of that I may need to talk with the Westin about securing a hotel room or maybe the Washington Room to use.
2. It looks like we have about 8 fursuiters who have said they're going to make time to help make this activity happen. I would like to have at least one handler for every two fursuiters if possible. I have one handler so far, maybe two. I need a few other local furs to join us as handlers.
Give me a shout here if you're interested so I can get a rough head count.
Thanks!

Ashes reminds you to practice Christmas tree Fire Safety
Posted 12 years agoAshes and myself remind all our friends, near and far, to be sure to have a wonderful holiday by taking fire safety precautions with your Christmas tree this year.
Keep open flames away from your tree and ornaments, check your tree lights for frayed or broken wires and, if you have a real Christmas tree, make sure it is regularly watered.

Fursuiters & Handlers invited to participate in Xmas Parade
Posted 12 years agoHey Friends!
The parade is a week away and I wanted to toss out a reminder to everyfur in Western PA and Eastern Ohio who read this forum that we've once again been invited to participate in the Wampum, PA Christmas Parade which is being held Saturday, December 7th. We are asked to be at the Gymnasium by 11:30am to meet and get ready. The parade sets up around 12:30pm and steps off at 1pm.
We are inviting area fursuiters and furs to join our group as we bounce around and greet the many local spectators along the 1-mile parade route which starts and ends at the same place. If you don't have a fursuit that's fine, please come and act as handlers for those that do.

Hooray it's Halloween!!
Posted 12 years agoThe one day out of the year that I can wear Ashes at the Fire Station to hand out candy!
Of course, that's only at Station #2. I have to take him off before I go to the main station and folks find out I was wearing him at the fire station.
Anyone want to hang out tonight while we hand out candy from 5:30 to 7pm? (Fire Station #2, 12th Street and Center Ave., 15215)
There's a costume parade outside the Borough Building at 7:30pm also.

Happy Whelpday to me!
Posted 12 years agoYeah, it's that day of the year again. One more year around the sun; one more year moving the decimal point one place to the left. *chuckles*
I think this year I'm 45 (4.5). I'll have to check FetLife when I get home as it does a better job of keeping track than I do. I honestly thought I was 43 last year.
Anyway, thanks ahead of time for all the well wishes on this my special day that I share with hundreds of others.

Can you tell time?
Posted 12 years agoSome folks say that cubs can't tell time and I'd like to say that's not remotely true. For example there's:
Wake-up Time
Cuddle Time
Bottle Time
Lunch Time
Dinner Time
Changing Time
Play Time
Time to go...Walkies, to the Park, to the Store, for a Ride, etc.
Time to Play...House, Legos, Dress-up, Ponies, Princesses, Cops & Robbers, Hide & Seek, etc.
Snack Time
Story Time
Cartoon Time
Baff Time
Game Time
Nap Time
Bed Time
and the ominous,
Time Out,
Corner Time,
Punishment Time,
School Time,
and
Tickle Time.
What more about time does anyone need to know?
Thanks to
muira_wolf_pup for hashing many of those out on Twitter today.

[Anthrocon 2013] Open Call to all Table-Top Gaming Hosts
Posted 12 years agoHello everyone!
Last year we had an outstanding line up of games of all types to help make your experience at Anthrocon one to remember. Now we're looking to make that happen again and this is your chance to get involved!
Anthrocon's Table-top Gaming Track is looking for attendees who are interested in hosting a table-top role playing game, collectible card game (CCG) demos, pick up games, or tournaments, non-casino card games, board games, miniatures games, party games, and/or live action role playing (LARP) games. This year's convention theme is "The Fast and the Furrious."
Typically, depending on the game, sessions run from 1-4 hours, though longer sessions are and can be accommodated. I also make every effort to not schedule folks during 2 Gryphon and Kage's Story Hour, as well as the Fursuit Parade, once I have firm day and times for those events.
I have already received quite a few game events already from returning game hosts and a few requests from some new folks...But there's still a lot of room left for more. The gaming room has six round tables available for table-top CCG's, Board Games, Party Games and Non-Casino Card Games. I also have six rectangular tables available for CCG and Miniatures Games. I keep three of each type "Open" for "Open Gaming" to allow anyone to come in, play games they brought with friends or use the small collection of games the track has on hand.
If you are interested in sharing your talents with friends and attendees at Anthrocon please e-mail me at tabletop.gaming AT anthrocon.org. I don't have a set deadline yet from Programming and Publications, so I'll set my own. Sunday, May 5th...Cinco de Mayo! Smiling
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Original Swifty Arts
Posted 12 years ago*laughs*
I have uploaded 17 pieces of art that I've drawn, by hand or with my tablet, in my main gallery, the latest was in 2010.
There's two more in among my Scraps...I'm not counting WIP's as I've counted the finished pieces.
There's a pretty obvious degradation in my abilities and style that's pretty sad to see.
Looking at it again, I remember being pretty upset that was the case. I remember asking myself what the heck happened?
Anyways.
[EDIT] I see what happened. My later works were done on the tablet. I guess I'm still getting a feel for that over pencil and paper which I'm far more comfortable with.
"OUT! Out of your comfort zone silly!"

Dude, you gotta suck before you get better...
Posted 12 years agoI peruse FA for two reasons: first to look at well drawn art that piques my interest; second to review styles and techniques that might influence my own.
Yet at the same time, I don't pick up the pen/pencil and put lines on paper to put what I see into practice.
I think the down side of FA for me is that while it provides inspiration, it's also wildly intimidating. With all this great art to compare to, it's easy for my psyche to just throw up it's paws and say, "Dude, you suck. You'll never create works that good."
And so the cycle continues and those words just procreate an impenetrable artist block like a castle wall. My intimidation is so great that I can't even talk to artists. I'm intimidated by them and afraid I'll come across like just another fan-boi. Plus I know that what they may share with me, I'll never follow through in practice. "I'm too busy."
But the words I've heard over and over again are, "If you want to improve, you have to pick up the pencil and draw. Draw until your hand and your mind are honed to create the pictures that are in your mind waiting to get out."
"We all sucked at art before we were able to draw and create as we do. Few were born with this innate ability."

FCN 2013 - The Where's, When's and Why's of my Con Weekend
Posted 12 years agoHey folks!
Like many others, I have a room, I'm pre-registered (Sponsor level) and mostly packed for FCN next weekend. I'll be alone this year as Sil is not joining me for this convention. She's staying home to study for a professional examination.
I'm behind on my work load due to the continued downsizing of our team so I'm foregoing taking Friday and Monday off, or even taking a half day on Friday as i had initially planned. I'll be leaving Pittsburgh around 5pm for Novi and I'm going to try to drive straight through with no stops.
That should put me at the con around 10 - 10:30pm Friday night so I'll miss registration on Friday. There's a lot to do after getting there. Finding my roommates to get a room key is priority 1 and will factor into whether I pop into fursuit for a couple hours or just call it a night. (My day will have started at 5:30am.)
I'll be at the con all day Saturday with no other plans than the Parade and getting in some suit time. (Minimum of six hours of fursuiting time constitutes a good convention.)
I'm leaving Sunday morning around check out (11am) so I can get home to take CJ to Agility class and then get a good night's sleep to go to work again on Monday morning.
I'm packing light; A fursuit, fan, plush, badges, couple changes of clothes & toiletries.
It's not going to be an ideal weekend get-away by any means and if I wasn't committed to helping defray the cost of the hotel room I'd probably wave off FCN this year also. If I can get to the six hours of suit time over Friday night and Saturday, and see a few friends, it should provide enough to rejuvenate for a couple more months until AC in July.
I hope to run into many of you at FCN and I hope you have a great time!
*Hugs*

[Railfan] NJT4205 makes an evening commuter run...video link
Posted 12 years agoNJT 4205 (Formerly CR/PC 3263), rebuilt EMD GP40, current designation GP40PH-2B, makes the late evening commuter run, heading south down the North Jersey Coast Line toward Spring Lake station.
I think I'm most excited to learn that this locomotive was originally running under the Penn Central flag. That's pretty neat in my book.

NEW Railfan Photos uploaded to Scraps
Posted 12 years agoThey're not technically "Furry" so I uploaded my railfan photos from my outing last weekend into my Scraps so as not to "pollute" the art stream with "non-furry" photos.
I know I have a few railfan furries who follow my account so I figured I'd advise them as to where they are and let others know that even though my gallery looks stagnant, there is some activity here.

Ashes and I ask for your support of our Fire Department...
Posted 13 years agoHi folks,
I wanted to share the opportunity for my friends here to help a worthy cause and maybe even win a nice chunk of change in the process. "The Cash Bash" is an annual fund raiser co-hosted by my fire department to help raise money to defray the operational costs of running a fire department that not covered by the 40k annual municipal stipend.
What's it for?: The monies raised are essential to the continuing operation of the volunteer fire department and providing equipment and training to help make the job of myself and my fellow volunteer firefighters as safe as possible.
When and Where is it?: The Cash Bash is scheduled for Saturday, January 26th, 2013 from 6:30pm until 11pm at the Comfort Inn & Suites, 180 Gamma Drive, O'hara Twp, PA.
How's it work?: For a donation of $20 your ticket comes with a unique three digit number and admission to the catered event. That donation gets you chances to win cash money on the hour and every 15 minutes from 7-11pm. You don't have to be present to win! (When you win, a check will be mailed to the name and address you provide.)
The Requisite Eye Candy: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9450040/
We thank you for your support in these tough economic times.

[Report] Wampum Area Christmas Parade 2012
Posted 13 years agoHey folks!
Well big thanks to Noob and the organizers of the Wampum Area Christmas Parade for inviting us back to march in their annual parade.
As usual we're a big hit with young and old alike along the streets of this tranquil mill/mining town along the Beaver River.
Sadly due to health and work schedules there were only four of us in suit with Lara and Noob's Mom as handlers and
lllKato Lion there to take photos. In suit was
FreyaFox,
CoalDog,
Noob-Mutt and
April_b_Collie. Smaller numbers meant we had more hugs and zany fun all to ourselves. *LOL* When the parade was over, we weren't done by a long shot. We had about a half hour to cool down, catch our breath and rehydrate before we bounced back out into the gymnasium to entertain the kids waiting in line to see Santa, or pose for photos with them after they'd seen the man in red.
We were done and packed up a little before 4pm, tired to be sure, but also taking away a natural performer's high at bringing so much happiness to the lives of thousands of folks this holiday season. I'll add links to photos when they become available.
With or without a fursuit, we'd love for you to make time to join us in 2013! Mark your calendars for the first Saturday in December 2013...at 11:30am...and help us represent Furry in a positive light.
*Hugs*
