[BBA RP] "The Great Featherfur Flood" Part 6

"The Great Featherfur Flood; Part 6"
Dominic jumped down into the shallows and shoved his head under the drenched cross fox's tail. He tensed his shoulders and then lifted his head up; giving Swift the boost he needed to clear the bank.
Hopping up behind the pair, Dominic surveyed his two companions for injuries.
Swift moved a few feet away from the edge and collapsed, giving Brighteyes the opportunity to dismount and himself a chance to catch his breath.
"You all ok?"
Swift looked up and around at Dawntyde who had inquired. "Th...th...thank you." he said simply, conveying his thanks to both Dawntyde and Dominic.
Then he turned to Brighteyes and said, "Well, we made it. But don't you dare yip, 'Let's do that again." A warm smile broke his muzzle and he winked at all three of them.
He watched as Dominic offered the warmth of his tail to Brighteyes and he smiled warmly at the gesture. It gave him a little more time to gather his strength again to chaperone the young lass to safety. The reprieve was short lived though for soon the vixen kit....
...bounded towards Swift again, nuzzling his wet chest fur. "You too, Mr. Swift. Thank you very much." She beamed up at him, her blue eyes like two sparkling sapphires among the dull, grey environment.
Rising to his feet and finally shaking the water out of it, he turned to nuzzle Brighteyes little nose, tail swaying back and forth, and he yerfed, "Your welcome little sister."
He raised his head and looked toward Dominic and Dawntyde and inquired, "Which way to the rendezvous point? Are you both staying here to guide others across? Should we stay together?"
Dominic glanced at Dawntyde "Thank you again my friend, I will lead them to find the others and get further instruction from our Chieftess."
Dawntyde nodded and said humbly, "I'm only a Wheatfeather. I'm just trying to help out. I want to prove that I'm worthy of a rank in the Tribe."
Swift's ears perked, "I am naught but a Wheatfeather as well Dawntyde. It seems in times like these, uncommon valor and courage finds itself in born within the common. Brighteyes and I will be sure to pass along the tale of your good deed and we hope to see you again."
She paused, thinking of what was just said. "I guess I'd better be moving too. I'm gathering food for the Tribe. The fishing is excellent. If you want to come back and help after you get the young ones to the high ground, you are more than welcome to do so. I would certainly appreciate it. If you spot other Wheatfeathers around, tell them to come to me so then they might have a good chance of making a good impression on the tribe also. "
She smiled and then picked up her catch and walked towards another part of the river. She touched the other foxes with her tail as a goodbye.
Touching tails with Dawntyde, Swift confirmed, "We will tell the Chieftess. Thank you again."
Swift paused while the other foxes exchanged momentary farewells.
Dominic turned to them and said, "Come with me." He stepped off at a steady paced walk.
Swift smiled and nodded, generally relieved to have some of the pressure off his shoulders after the ordeals and challenges this day had presented. Now there was someone else, older, stronger and more familiar with the crater who would lead them to safety.

[BBA RP] "The Great Featherfur Flood" Part 5
Posted 17 years agoSmall sections of the RP thread from the Blackblood Alliance Forums.

"The Great Featherfur Flood; Part 5"
Swift laid down on his chest on the wet ground and told Brighteyes, "Climb onto my shoulders and wrap your paws as tight around my neck and body as you can Brighteyes. Use your claws if you must, but don't let go."
Feeling her weight on his shoulders and wrapping her paws around him as she was told, Swift stood up slowly. He could feel her shift a little.
"Tighter, like your life depends on it." Swift growled, adding more quietly, "It very well may."
Her grip tightened and Swift followed behind Dominic and Dawntyde toward the river's edge. The river sounded like a dull churning from above, but here on the bank, it sounded like the wind through the trees in winter. Looking out across the boil he could see bits of debris and foam moving quickly around a lone stone washed over and over and over by the torrent.
Dominic turned his head and called back to Swift, "I will try to stay in front of you my friends. I believe I am big enough to break the current enough to make your passage easier."
His odd humor flashed in his bluish eyes as he winked at the male cross fox and the small kit latched onto his back. Then he turned and waded further into the water, looking down at its darkness with an odd expression.
The cold water splashed around Swift's paw as he stepped down into the muddy shallows. The current was moving faster than he had ever experienced. The water was cold and he almost stepped back until the prick of a claw in his side reminded him that he was no longer just responsible for himself. Swallowing back his fear, he stepped forward into the river. Mere feet from the shore, the bottom dropped off and Swift lost his footing. The two foxes were swept up in the fast current and he was reaching with all his strength to keep his head and shoulders above the water.
The small claws dug into his neck and flanks and he was thankful for that small reminder that his charge was doing her part. That left him free to concentrate on the river and getting to the other side. His back end swung down stream but he found that he could use his water logged tail as sort of a rudder and it helped keep them both swimming in the direction of the far shore.
Something brushed his back foot; a rock; a branch? It startled him and broke his stride temporarily. A branch came bobbing along the surface toward them. Dominic ducked under it and it kept on coming toward the pair. Swift struggled to swim around the nearer side of it as he couldn't dive under with his passenger. The branch was almost on top of them and they were still in its path. The foxes shot through a small rapid which turned the branch ninety degrees and it passed harmlessly by next to them.
"Hang in there little one!" He barked out reassuringly then took in a mouthful of water sending him into fits of coughing. Looking to the shore line it seemed to be flying past him as they bobbed along in the torrent. He could see Dominic ahead of him still and the vixen Dawntyde was just pulling herself from the river. He was better than half way across now and that renewed his spirits.
His fore paws and legs, burning from the exertion, Swift plied onward through the river. His back leg caught on something solid, then slipped off. He pulled forward again with his forepaws and both back legs caught hold of the stony bottom and held. He pushed with his powerful back legs and the sudden lurch forward must have come as a surprise for Brighteyes for she slipped a little. Her claws drew his skin open at the neck as he felt her lunge forward and clamp her teeth on his left ear and hold.
Swift winced but focused on finding purchase for his fore legs on the gravel bottom of the slower side of the river and he waded the last few feet to the bank of the river. As he reached the bank he tried to jump up, but in his weakened state, all he managed was to get his forepaws on the muddy ledge as his rear paws scraped at the vertical bank.

"Lessons in Lace" Days 2 & 3 are UP!
Posted 17 years agoHello!
The long awaited entry of "Lessons in Lace; Day 3" is finally complete and uploaded to my FA Archive! After many, many months of editing the heck out of the drafts, which many of you read on my LJ, I'm satisfied enough to turn it into a .pdf and post it here for you to enjoy.
Link to "Lessons in Lace; Day 3"
I also realized that I still had the "partial" draft of "Lessons in Lace; Day 2" here in my archive. "Day 2" has been finished for over a year now. So I corrected that oversight and have posted "Day 2" in it's finished form.
Link to "Lessons in Lace; Day 2"
For those not familiar with the "Lessons in Lace" series of stories they focus on forced regression and feminization of a cross fox, me, with bondage, diaper use, and general punishment.
If you haven't read them yet, start with "Day 1,"
Link to "Lessons in Lace; Day 1", which was authored by an anonymous furson, with editing by myself and posted with permission to complete the set.
"Day 4" is in progress. I think I'm up to Chapter 4 and 22 pages of story. The drafts of the first three chapters have been posted to my LJ.
Thanks! Please enjoy and comments are sincerely welcome.

[BBA RP] "The Great Featherfur Flood" Part 4

"The Great Featherfur Flood; Part 4"
The bloodfeather fox ran up the low rise to stop before the pair. "Dawntyde..." His mind registered. He had passed by as the female many paces ago, he had assumed was Dawntyde, and had announced a certain part of the river safe to cross. Dominic clenched his jaw and shook his bangs in frustration. He thought, "How would he go about doing this? With the kit with them how would they cross?"
He looked up and hard at Swift and asked, "Dear Sir, how well do you swim? I know the part of the river you speak of..." He paused and looked down at the vixen kit then looked at Swift again and continued with deep concern, "But the child?"
He moved closer, his muscles tensed, and touched the cheek of the kit with his nose as if conveying, "It will be well child. Have no fears."
His eyes darted back up to the male, "Shall I carry her, or shall you?"
"My name is Swift and she is my charge. I will look after her." Swift yerfed, nuzzling the vixen as she retreated under his chest. His words sounded terse in his ears, but it was not meant that way. To draw attention from his possible faux pas he quickly added, "As for swimming, I can hold my own, but I would greatly appreciate a larger fox to accompany us and perhaps break the current a little as we cross."
The big fox turned his head and confirmed, "I will swim in front of you my friend. I believe I am big enough to break the current"
Swift looked back to the swollen river and then to the new dog fox and asked, "Do you know of the fox or the ford that we seek...um...I'm sorry, I don't believe we've been introduced."
"My name is Dominic, pleased to meet you." He answered, looking down at the vixen kit with a smile and adding, "And you, my dear, can tell me your name once we cross this river"
Swift nodded to Dominic. As the big fox turned to lead the way, Swift looked at the vixen kit and said, "I'll let you run on your own with us until we get to the river. Then I shall carry you across the current. But you have to keep up, understand...er..." Swift fumbles for the kit's name and realizes that she never had the opportunity to tell him.
Dominic led them away and it was clear that he too would have to wait until they had crossed the river to learn his little companion's name.
Her blue eyes sparkled as he addressed her, but once again, she did not have time to respond. Swift set off down the hill toward the river, following Dominic. She did as she was told and held her own, walking only a few paces behind Swift to shield herself from the harsh winds blowing their way. Brighteyes then found it much easier to use the footprints Swift left behind, instead of struggling through the mud. Despite the horrid situation they were facing, she saw hopping from one foot print the other like a small game, and this distracted the little vixen from their solemn affair.
Swift and Brighteyes followed Dominic down to the edge of the stream where they met another fox, a full grown vixen. Her turquoise fur was soaked to the skin but she seemed quite at home like that. An impressively large fish lay on the bank beside her. She rose and walked over to the trio, edging toward Brighteyes.
"I'll carry the young one." She said, lowering her muzzle toward the kit's scruff.
Unconsciously, Swift stiffened and was about to protest when Dominic interrupted...
Dominic gave her a kind smile "Thank you kindly, but the male is extremely attached to the youth, a very generous offer though." The blue furred fox gave her a bow of respect.
The vixen looked at the young male cross fox appraisingly and backed away a step. "We'd better move quickly and get across before the river gets rougher." She said.
He looked at the river with a strange look. Dominic had always harbored a fear of raging water. The big fox swallowed his fear however; others were counting on him and he would have to suck it up. "I Agree." He said, "Your name is Dawntyde if I'm not mistake."
"Yes, I'm flattered you've heard of me" Dawntyde nodded and said, "As for crossing the river, we'd best be going now. The current is getting a stronger with each passing minute."
Dawntyde lead the way to the bank of the river, pausing a moment to pick up her catch. She walked up to Dominic, stopped to look back, towards Swift and Brighteyes, and then walked on into the river. Touching Dominic with her tail was her silent signal telling him to follow.

"The Great Featherfur Flood" Part 3
The little vixen kit had been very well behaved and subdued so far and the year and a half old cross fox was very thankful for it. He'd been an outsider still during the last mating season and hadn't taken a vixen to begin a family of his own. Everything he was doing now he was pulling from his own memories as a fox kit.
Out of the gloom and moving back toward the dens, came a blood red furred vixen with tan markings. She paid him and his charge little mind, but did pause enough to bark,
"Hurry and get to the river! Look for the greyfeather, she'll show you where to cross!" Cochran spent no extra time trying to console the kit. If the male lost track of her and she got hurt while he was in his care, he would only be hurting himself.
Swift nodded his understanding not only of the spoken message, but the unspoken one as well, and the two foxes parted company. The dog fox turned slightly heading towards the stream now. Here and there were dry spots, little knolls or fallen logs and Swift was thankful to get himself and his charge out of the pooling water for a little while at least. The downside was that their route to the river was a circuitous one.
The rushing sound of the stream filled their ears and as they both came out of the wood line Swift saw that the tranquil little stream had swollen to twice it's normal width. It was here, a few yards from the bank of the stream, that Swift finally put the vixen kit down for a moment so he could survey up and down the bank of the run looking for either a safe place to cross or the Greyfeather he'd been told about.
Absently, he said out loud, "I sure hope you can swim kiddo." Then, for no reason at all except maybe to reassure her, he licked the top of the vixen kit's head.
Out of nowhere, the young kit felt something warm near her ears, something that wasn't freezing cold rain or rapid winds. She looked up to the taller fox in wonderment. He had licked her. It made her heart swell and she couldn't repress a smile. She couldn't remember the last time she had been shown affection. Her bright blue eyes sparkled up at him, despite the dull and harsh weather around them. She wanted to say or do something equally as nice, to maybe give him the same confidence boost he had just bestowed upon her.
She couldn't think of anything she could possibly do so she asked, in a timid tone, "What's your name?"
Swift looked down at her now. He had been scanning through the wind and falling rain with his eyes and ears to find a clue that would tell him which way to go in this gray, wet world.
"I am called Swift, young vixen." Swift answered gently, "I am newly come to the Featherfur only five or six cycles ago from glade and glen far across the burning plains outside Alteron territory." Looking into her wide, bright eyes, the older fox yerfed, "What name have you're parent's given you bright eyed one?"
Before she could answer, Swift spied movement downstream and his head spun around.
His small paws pounded the earth as he continued his den searching. Suddenly he came upon a fox and a small kit, sitting idle in this "storm of the century." He shook his bangs, as the wind threw them back, and he had to close his eyes from the fierceness of the wind
"This is bad...this is really, really bad." He thought to himself silently.
The dark blue furred male fox was now soaked to the bone, shivering slightly, but he had to see why these two were just sitting there. The bloodfeather struggled to make his voice loud enough to be heard over the howling wind, "You two there? Where are you heading...do you need any help?"
Swift barked back at the brawnier dog fox as he approached, "I have lost our bearings in the storm. We are looking for the ford! Lady Cochran advised us to move toward the river ford. There would be a greyfeather there to mark where it is safe to cross."
Despite the harsh wind nipping at her muzzle and ears, she did not falter in listening to all his words. Her curiosity was piqued when he said he hailed from a far away land, and was hoping to question him further, hopefully when their surrounding conditions improved. She was just about to tell him her name, which already almost guessed, when another, larger fox cam near.
Perhaps if she would be able to make it across the river, after all. She had no idea everyone was so organized in following Lady Creidlahn's orders. She scooted closer to Swift as the other dog fox approached, gazing up at the dark furred fox from behind her guardian's forearm.

"The Great Featherfur Flood; Part 2"
Brighteyes' overly large ears perked up. She sniffed the air and came to realize it was a male fox barking into the tunnel she was stuck in.
"..D-down here," the young vixen whimpered. Her large blue eyes searching desperately for whomever it was coming down, "I...I think I'm stuck!" Suddenly she mustered up the courage to try and crawl out of the mud, but it was proving very difficult. When Brighteyes would pick one paw up, the others would sink, and it was a vicious cycle. She had to hurry, for every second more water seemed to be pouring down, slicking up the mud even more and making it even more sticky.
Now her beautiful crimson and white fur was completely covered in bud, weighing her down immensely.
Hearing the weak, high pitched answer to his call, Swift knew at once that one of the kits had gotten left behind here in this den. So he called out to try and comfort the young fox, "I'm coming in to get you. We have to leave this place...soon...and I'll stay with you until you're safe."
Then at the bottom of the run, Swift stepped into almost two inches of mud and water and he knew the gravity of the kit's situation and that they were both running out of time. He could hear the fox kit struggling to move and whimpering as each try mired her deeper and deeper into the thick mud.
"Don't move little one." Swift advised, "It'll make you more stuck. Stay still. I'll be right there."
Step by step, Swift moved through the mud, his longer legs finding purchase still at the bottom of the muck. Even so, it was slow going. Using his sense of smell he moved across the pitch black den until he was standing over the fox...no...*sniff, sniff*...vixen kit.
Sniffing along her length to determine how she was oriented, he settled his nose over the scruff of her neck then said, "This may pinch a little pulling you out. What ever you do, don't struggle."
The water and mud was now up to the top of his black "socks" and rising quickly. The cross fox opened his muzzle, gently grasped the vixen kit's scruff and began to pull her up, up out of the mud.
Schluck, schluck, schluck...schluck, the mud protested each paw it relinquished its hold on. Feeling no more resistance, Swift turned and carefully made his way back to the mouth of the den, finding his way with his nose and whiskers towards the moist, fresh air flowing into the den with the water. The kit's back paws dragged through the water and top layers of mud as she was carried by the male fox.
The small tickle of water that flowed into this earth when Swift walked in, now covered the entire sloping floor of the run to the surface and made moving slippery. After two such slips, falling down onto his chest and dunking the kit into the flow of water which washed over her, Swift dug his claws in with each step to give himself some purchase. He never once released his "charge" from his muzzle.
Breaking the surface again, Swift and the small foxling found themselves in the pouring rain and an ever deepening pool of flood water. Lightening arched across the sky and a clap of thunder followed causing Swift to instinctively crouch back ready to run, ears flattened to the sides. But he regained his composure and made for the hunting trail which lead up to higher ground.
Splashing forward at a trot, with the kit still swinging back and forth in his maw, Swift hoped the trail was still passable, but in the back of his mind, he knew that would likely be wishful thinking. His mind wandered and he allowed the stray thought to enter his mind, "I wonder if anyone had thought to teach this youngling to swim?"

"The Great Featherfur Flood; Part 1"
"Foxes of Featherfur, hear me!....Do NOT stay in your dens! This storm is no ordinary one, there may be flooding and --Vixxie!...I need you to gather all the spies and take them to gather supplies. If you pass any young ones or the elderly, try to take them. I need to get those most vulnerable out of immediate danger. Take also those who need any help or need someone to follow. Go as fast as you can, and return as soon as you see fit!"
Swift's ears perked and he poked his head out of his newly dug earth just as the first heavy drops of rain began to pelt the new spring grass outside. The air was thick with moisture and then he felt the same instinctual voice his chieftess had...this storm posed a real danger.
Other foxes were moving also and more commands were given to those of the clan who had a job to do. Swift was too new, and the collective of vulpines had not had the time to test his skills and prowess. So for the time being he'd not be a hindrance and make for higher ground on his own.
There were barks and yips warning about making a river crossing, and that made sense if the storm had already embroiled the river upstream. That left the narrow trail that lead up the ridge and even that would become treacherous once it became soft and muddy.
So the young cross fox took to stride and moved to higher ground, behind others who had left their own earths on Creidlahn's commands. Outside of one such den, the young fox heard a faint whimper. His initial thought was for his own safety, but he heard the whine again and curiosity got the better of him.
Moving a few feet to the right, Swift sniffed at the mouth of the den, just to make sure that there weren't already foxes taking charge of the situation. It's quite rude to just walk into another couple's earth. But his nose picked up no fresh scents and the whimper continued as another flash of lightning and rumble of thunder heralded in a brisk wind, blowing sheets of rain down upon the crater.
Brighteyes wondered where the other kits had gone? Had they been rounded up into a group and moved somewhere? Had they forgot her, perhaps? Again, she let out a little whimper. It was getting cold, and her fur wasn't very thick yet.
The small kit remained curled up and shaking in the den.
"Hello?" Swift barked, making his way down into the earth, a trickle of rain water already running down the center of the tunnel, between his paws, "Hello?"
In the low visibility of the driving rain, the white tip of Swift's tail disappeared from sight, back into the ground...

Another Anthrocon is in the books!
Posted 17 years agoFor the benefit of everyone on my friends list I will attempt to just convey the highlights of my experience at Anthrocon 2008.
I saw more friends than I missed at AC; but if I attempt to rattle off all of their names, I'm guaranteed to fail and miss many people in the process. So I will refrain from creating a long exhausting list and simply say, "To everyone I had the opportunity to cross paths with, exchange words and hugs, and goof around with as Ashes, it was great to see you again and I look forward to the next time."
I'm pretty sure that I've come to this conclusion in years past, but I tend to forget over the span of a year, but Anthrocon is the only con where I just can't devote more than 5-10 minutes of social time to any one person outside of panels. Saturday night, when the weather rained out the second Star Party, I was suddenly blessed with two free hours. Rather than fill that time hosting impromptu rounds of "Are you a Werewolf" in the DLCC, I chose to devote about 45 minutes to spend in the "Cub Hub," and another 45 minutes to rub elbows with a few folks at another private room party I received an invite to that night. My schedule didn't mesh to grab lunch or dinner with groups of friends at all this weekend.
I scored about 4 hours of suiting time over AC weekend. I managed to be out for two and a half hours Saturday for the Fursuit Parade and some photo ops afterward. I was also out Sunday early afternoon for an hour and a half. The highlight of my suiting experiences was having the opportunity to give Floyd Norman a couple hugs on stage as Ashes, and thank him "for being a part of Disney feature films which provided me the inspiration to create Ashes." Now I'm scouring the net for pictures. Do you have any of Ashes?
As I mentioned earlier Saturday's Astrono_fur's Star Party got washed out. However, we were able to set up the scope Friday night for about an hour. Transparency was poor, but seeing was better than good. We caught a small break in the cloud cover early and I had Saturn in the eyepiece at 150x for about 20 minutes. Clouds obscured it for about a 10 minute stretch and when the area cleared again; the ringed planet was lost in the glare from the baseball stadium. I turned the scope in on Vega for the 30 or so attendees present, and then we changed targets to Arcturus so the guests could get a feel for the difference in hue between the two stars. We got socked in with clouds at about 10:45pm and I wrapped the party up at 11.
The Looney Lab's Demo panels went fairly well. I think we had two tables of games going at each panel. Not quite as good as we'd done the year before and I have to wonder if the room selected for the table top games may have attributed to that.
I worked Ops this year with Gir, Decker and Green Reaper this year on the 18-21:00 shifts Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. That shift worked out very well as I could jet home from the con at around 4pm to go home, take care of Mel and Edan, make dinner for myself, and get back and find free "on street" parking before coming on-duty. It meant I'd miss the ALF/Greymuzzle Dinner Sunday night, but I could still meet up with them to ride the incline and grab some ice cream on Mt. Washington.
Sil got me a bottle cap commission from Aura Deva and we scored two Holly Ann originals and a print of Dan Keller's "Vulpecula V" in the Art Show. In all the running around I failed to get the Complimentary Basic Registration certificate in AC's Charity Auction.
Lastly, KP approached me Sunday morning and asked if I'd be interested in becoming the Gaming Track head for AC. As I've done that for Morphicon for many years, I agreed to give my time to bolstering that aspect of the con. I'll give him a week to recover and send the pup an email to clarify my areas of responsibility.
So that was my Anthrocon 2008 in a nutshell. Overall, not a bad weekend, but that doesn't mean I don't long for the small cons where I can feel more relaxed and have the opportunity to spend more time with folks. If it wasn't in Pittsburgh, I'm pretty certain you wouldn't find me there I'm pretty certain you wouldn't find me there. My next con will be MFM in late August, followed by the WPAFW in October, and wrapping the year up with MFF a month later.

Posted 17 years agoHi folks,
The "Diaper Bottom" badges I created for Luca, Dee and Reku were met with much more enthusiasm than I expected. On the encouragement of several of my friends and artists I'm opening up three slots to get one of your own.
I can sure use the excuse to continue to practice my style, honing my skills with my new Wacom tablet, and getting better aquainted with the functionality of Photoshop and GIMP.
Because of my busy schedule, I'm only taking three commissions at a time to start. If it turns out I can efficiently handle more, I'll increase the que.
Here are some examples:

Can't sketch/draw in public...
Posted 17 years ago...yeah, I got this problem and it's called confidence in my abilities. :)
Walking around AC these last two days and looking at all the folks with sketch books out, pencil or pen in paw and just sketching away with all those people around. It was like they were in their own little world, happy to be placing lines on paper on their way to a successful, or unsuccessful final product.
I've tried to sketch/draw at the monthly fur meets. I see others do it all the time. But I get self conscious with my abilities, put the sketch book and pencil down and go socialize. When I do find the time to create some art, it has to be in a quiet environment with no distractions...and no one else around...until I get along a ways and am mildly pleased with what I've created.
Am I alone with this? I have a feeling that I'm not. Any suggestions for breaking my phobia?
I think this lack of confidence is why I tend to keep a safe distance from many of my artist friends. :(
Oh well, Anthrocon kinda stirred up these odd thoughts and I thought I'd just jot them down here. I'll have my sketch books and drawing supplies with me at AC...but they'll rarely leave my shoulder bag.
Be well all!

I looked at this one for a long time. I'm intrigued by the technique and simplicity. I haven't quite gotten there yet. I try, but I keep coming back to the same place with my style.

I like the expression on this one. It doesn't make you look emo though. Just friendly, but shy.

I wouldn't be being honest if I didn't say I liked this one for the cute and the playfulness it conveys.

Considering all that you produce commission wise, I have to say it's always appealing to see the soft and cutsie side of the kitty.

These little badges of yours last year were really original. This one happens to feature my lil buddy Techno in it. :)

Whoot! I'm in Pittsburgh!
Posted 17 years agoOh wow!
Pittsburgh is like so awesome!
It's cool and sunny in the mornings, with the fog rolling down the valley with the river currents. It's refreshing to sit outside with a hot cup of coffee and just enjoy life.
Then, it warms up to a nice comfortable temperature throughout the day, with only a hint of humidity, then pow! the dark, ominous, clouds roll in and nature tosses in a superb light show to end the day.
Ahh, it's so worth the while to be here early...before the convention. It's quiet at the hotel and really nice to take out the sketchbook and draw. Especially down by the river under the convention center.
There's a bunch of old guys wandering around the Westin for some "Coal Power is Good Power" conference. I heard there was a protest by an environmental group here yesterday. I wonder if the group will be here again to protest Anthrocon?
Oh well, I just wanted to let folks know I'm in Pittsburgh.

Weekend progress on the badges.
Posted 17 years agoPhew! I think I logged about 16 hours of work Friday, Saturday and Sunday to work on three gift badges and I'm about two hours away from completing the third one. Add to that an hour to pencil sketch the initial concept out and another hour to digitize it, I'll have twenty hours invested in these once I'm done.
They're all digitally outlined and colored, with a layered shadowing technique that's time consuming. It works but not as well as I had hoped. But it's going to work out to about 7 hours per badge. I'm not as versed in con badge commissions as many of my artist friends are, but I'm assuming that a typical con-badge should take about half that…say 4, maybe 5 hours tops?
Some of it may be attributed to my mediocre familiarity with the software packages; mainly GIMP and Photoshop. Last night I figured out how to select a color with the "magic wand" and change the color of that area with the "Fill Bucket." I did a hefty "Doh!" there as I was re-coloring areas I could have used this on from scratch for each one. Plus there was a lot of layer manipulation, and re-erasing of lines that the pressure sensitivity of the Wacom pen didn't quite take care of. So, over time I could probably nix an hour, possibly two off those 7-8 hours/badge.
I'm pretty happy with the effects and how they turned out though. I experimented with a few things to see if they'd work. Some did; others not so well. I know they're not as good as I my mind envisioned, but they're as good as I can do with my talents currently where they are.
I've asked the badge recipients not to post them until after AC so they have the pleasure and opportunity of showing them off to their friends at the convention first. After AC, I may be open to making similar badges for others on a commission or auction basis. I'm still trying to figure out a price that's feels fair to the consumer and to myself.
Oh well. Comments and suggestions from my more artistic mentors and friends are more than welcome.

I can has AC schedule now pleez?
Posted 17 years agoHuzzah!
Well, I can finally confirm what time I have to breath at Anthrocon now that I know my schedule for Operations.
I work Ops every day, Thursday through Sunday from...Oh...who am I kidding? I didn't need to wait on Giza to be able to tell everyone that I won't have time to catch my breath at Anthrocon let alone hang out with anyone. :|
But for what it's worth, I'll be working in Ops from 6-9pm Thursday through Sunday of Anthrocon. If you want a guarantee to see me, Anthrocon has gratiously nailed my butt down in one place for three hours each day.
It also means that you can catch me on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 10am and Noon in Conv. Ctr Rm. 318 helping to run Looney Lab's games. If I get enough bodies that early in the morning, "Are you a Werewolf" games may happen. If you miss either of those, cross your claws and try and hook up with us from 10pm to Midnight Friday and Saturday nights at the top of the Conv. Ctr. Wonka-vator for our Anthrocon Star Parties, hosted by the Astrono-furs.
So...Bonus for Sil and I, we don't have to be nuts/crazy early to the con in the mornings, so instead of getting up by 7am to be at the con by 9am for a shift in Ops, we can sleep in until 8am. :) An hour makes a huge difference. :)
Breaking it down in plain vulpine, my schedule is as follows:
Thursday:
wake-up: 5:30am
7am-4pm: Work
4pm-6pm: Quick Dinner/Take care of Dogs.
6pm-9pm: Con Ops
Friday:
wake-up: 5:30am
7am-11am: Work
11am-3pm: Anthrocon
3pm-6pm: Home for Dinner/Take care of dogs.
6pm-9pm: Con Ops
9pm-Midnight: Friday AC Star Party (Weather Permitting)
Saturday:
wake-up: 8:00am
10am-Noon: Looney Lab's Demo Games
Noon-4pm: Anthrocon
4pm-6pm: Home for Dinner/Take care of dogs.
6pm-9pm: Con Ops
9pm-Midnight: Saturday AC Star Party (Weather Permitting)
Sunday:
wake-up: 8:00am
10am-Noon: Looney Lab's Demo Games
Noon-4pm: Anthrocon
4pm-6pm: Home for Dinner/Take care of dogs.
6pm-9pm: Con Ops
9pm...Dog knows?
So, now that I know what my obligations to the convention are, I have eleven hours of free time. Ashes has already called six hours of those eleven so that leaves me five free hours at Anthrocon. So...who wants dibs on a few minutes of what's left??

I'm a drawing fool! :)
Posted 17 years agoI got my Wacom all hooked up and working and have been diligently working on three con-badges I promised to three of my Babyfur friends after they won a little contest thingie I posted in my LJ back in March.
I've got two of the three completed, but I'm not going to share until after they get them at Anthrocon. I'll be asking them not to post it in their FA or LJ until after AC also so it'll be a surprise for each of them.
So, look for me to make up for three months of idle artz and shirking my New Year's resolution. :)
Thanks for your patience.

Artist's Supply Stores near Anthrocon
Posted 17 years agoArtists…If you need supplies, the nearest and best art supply store is a 15 minute bus ride away!
[url=http://www.utrechtart.com]Utrecht is located right on the corner of 20th Street and East Carson Street in the Southside section of Pittsburgh, PA. (1930 East Carson Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15203, Phone: (412) 432-1945) Their store hours are Monday thru Friday 9:30am-7pm; Saturday from 10am – 6pm and Sunday from Noon – 5pm.
Pittsburgh location website
To get there, you can catch the route 51A bus from the downtown stop in front of Trinity Cathedral at 6th and Smithfield Street. That's about a three block walk from the Westin and Doubletree and a block and a half walk from the Omni. Bus fares are $2.00 and a transfer is $.50. Check the schedule and catch the route 51A bus on the other side of Carson Street and it will bring you right on back.
Bus Route 51A Schedule.
When you get on the bus, tell the driver you need to get off at 20th and Carson Street and they will usually be helpful and announce your stop. The street numbers count up going outbound from the city and down when you're on your way back "downtown."
You can drive over as well if you like. There's metered parking on Carson Street and on the side streets for the first block. The Southside is laid out in a grid pattern but a few of the numbered streets may be one-way.
If you're just looking for a pen, sketchbook or other incidentals, there's an Office Depot that has opened up downtown on Smithfield Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. They're open Monday – Thursday 7am – 7pm; Friday from 7am – 8pm; Saturday from 9am -6pm and Sunday from Noon – 5pm
(623 Smithfield Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222; Phone (412) 261-1110)
Hope that helps!

Penguins Cheer Signs removed...
Posted 17 years ago...at the behest of FA administrators who advised me that my posting of the "cheer signs" was against the gallery's TOS as they were not created by me.
In my excitement I overlooked this, I was asked to remove them and I have complied.
Apologies for the inconvenience to all those who left comments or +Fave'd them.
The previously posted signs, and more, are available for download at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette website by following the links here:
