Aww Dee. Don't pout so. The rest of New York is celebrating!! It's only natural that you get dressed up in the winning team's colors to join in the frivolity!

Today in Swifty History...
Posted 16 years agoOctober 28, 1988, at around 7pm, Silaria and I first met in a noisy student lounge, devoid of anyone except for her. She was sitting on a round table on the stage in front of the television, trying to watch an episode of Star Trek TOS over the racket of a pair of video games.
It was a totally random meeting during one of those periods in my life when I was divesting myself of friends "for their own good."
I said hello.
It makes me smile just thinking how something so simple led to the happiness I hold every day now. :)
Love you my little trekkie. :)

[Report] Pittsburgh Robinson Twp. Furmeet...
Posted 16 years agoAn enjoyable time was had by the 15-20 furs and friends who stopped in at Niko's Cafe last Saturday evening. We split the tables so we could get 6 chairs around each one. Kyara and her friend broke out Settler's of Catan and I pulled out a deck of "We didn't playtest this at all." Both games ran continuously the entire time we were there. I kinda wished that I had brought another game or two just to mix things up.
Noob was the only one who came and suited and he seemed to be well received.
We left the room the way we found it and made sure things were all cleaned up. Then most of the group headed over to Denny's for a late evening snack.
Once again, HuskyCon...er, the Robinson Furmeet was a success.
Next Saturday is KiyaraKon in Brentwood. :) http://community.livejournal.com/pi.....rs/109180.html
Phew! October is a busy, busy month for furs here in Western PA.

Posted 16 years agoPittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When: Thursday, October 8, 2009
Time: 7-9pm
Where: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213
Wow! WPAFW was just last weekend and here we are on the cusp of another monthly fur meet. :)
Come and relax with friends old and new; break out your sketchbook and be creative over a warm cup of chai; play cards or other table top games; or open your laptop and surf the net over the free wireless connection.
The meet is what you make of it, so come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs! Don't forget to bring and show off your con badges if you have them! It at least helps us know who you are on the inside. :)
If you get there early, start to score us some seating in the area near the door to the back parking lot.
For more information and directions, visit http://www.swiftsden.net and scroll down to the section titled "Monthly Fur Meets."
Hope to see you there!

Western PA Furry Weekend '09 - Director's Wrap-up
Posted 16 years agoThe Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend 2009 is officially complete and we've put together another successful event.
We had 95 attendees who hailed from New York State, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington State. We remain an international event drawing in attendees from Ontario also.
While we were short a few heads, possibly deterred by the state of the economy, those 95 attendees raised a record $1,155 toward our charity the Beaver County Humane Society. That's up $66 from last year.
I'd like to take this moment to thank our Featured Artist for 2009, Jon StarRazor, for his support through the year. As we embark now on next year I am proud to announce our Featured Artist for 2010 is Flanowa J. Hopper!
flanowa
A big thanks to the folks without whom this event wouldn't happen; my department chairs, their staff, and all the volunteers. No event runs smoothly without competent folks looking after key tasks and positions.
2010 marks a decade of hosting the Western Pennsylvania Fur-b-ques; 14 separate events in that ten year span. We hope you'll come and join us as we celebrate year number 10 the weekend of October 1, 2 & 3, 2010!
I hope everyone who attended had a great time. We'd love to get your feedback on the event and this year we have a digital form you may use right on our website: http://www.wpafw.org/feedback.html
Thank you all very much!

Swifty's whelpday is this Friday!
Posted 16 years agoYes, that's your "bad taste" meter going off. I'm giving advance notice for my own whelpday.
Everyday I seem to see new arts for folk's whelpdays. While I'm not in the close family units the subjects of the pictures have found themselves in I thought it was worth mentioning.

[EVENT] Pittsburgh Monthly Fur Meet! Tomorrow!
Posted 16 years agoPittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When: Thursday, September 10, 2009
Time: 7-9pm
Where: Schenley Plaza, under the Tent Structure. http://www.pittsburghparks.org/schenleyplaza
In the event of rain: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213
One last chance to take advantage of the warm weather and try and capture an out of doors venue where we can not only sit, relax and enjoy the free WiFi, but also play a little. Schenley Plaza allows for a covered sitting area, as well as grassy areas for throwing frisbees and the Quad area which has been popular with those playing lazer tag. Food and drinks are available just up the road at the 7-11 on Forbes Avenue, or at the many eateries another block down the road.
Schenley Plaza is a part of the City Parks Conservatory and I don't know what their view of costumed critters are so please use good judgment if/when in suit and have a handler. Ears and tails are also welcome. Pets, and their responsible owners, are also welcome at Schenley Plaza but not on the grass.
In the event of rain, we will return to our old home at the Panera Bread on the Blvd of the Allies in Oakland. It is my hope that with the semester out and most of the college students away, this location will not be overcrowded.
The meet is what you make of it, so come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs! Don't forget to bring and show off your con badges if you have them! It at least helps us know who you are on the inside. :)

[WPAFW] Charity Raffle Offerings...
Posted 16 years agoOur ever flamboyant and industrious Mandarin Orange has been very busy all year to exceed the table full of Charity Raffle items he was able to present in 2008 and from which the assembled mass of 108 attendees raised over one thousand dollars for the Beaver County Humane Society.
Well this year we have the opportunity to share the donated items that will be raffled off this year in our "tea-cup" raffle drawing with all proceeds going once again to the Beaver County Humane Society.
If you're curious, please visit http://s451.photobucket.com/albums/.....eadeaus/WPAFW/
This is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM DONE! These are just the first of the things awaiting you. The Mandarin Orange requires the batteries in his camera to recharge before capturing the spirit of the remainder of his haul.
We hope this further encourages you to come and join us October 2-4, 2009 at the Western PA Furry Weekend for a little "Fur and Fun in the Autumn Sun."

Today is Edan's Whelpday!
Posted 16 years agoOur little sheltie fluff turns three today! Whee, go Edan!
He spent the weekend running Agility with Sil. He racked up four qualifying runs on Saturday in CPE Standard level 2, Full House level 2, Wildcard at level 2 and Snooker level 1. On Sunday he participated in another CPE Standard level 2 run, Colors level 2, Jackpot level 1 and Jumpers level 2. They only qualified in Colors level 2 and Jumpers level 2 on Sunday. The full day on Saturday and the heat and humidity totally sapped his energy for Sunday. :(
Sil and he needed a "Q" in Jackpot on Sunday to finish up all the level 1 events and get the CPE Level 1 Agility Title. Team Unicorn-Sheltie needs more work on distance work and contact obstacles before they can bag a "Q" in Jackpot. :(
Today the little guy gets a well deserved day of rest and a treat of vanilla yogurt for a whelpday dessert tonight.
Happy Birthday Edan! *hugs*

Contest story is complete...
Posted 16 years agoThe story loosely written around the commission "Day #37" by
padfoot_squarepants for RIV's story competition is complete.
Now all I need is for him to come back from vacation and provide an e-mail address to send the .pdf to so he may read it.
It's pretty good. Five chapters long...just shy of 20 pages with graphics. I only ran it through one editing process. I don't have time to give it any more attention than that.

[EVENT] Pittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet! Aug. 13 - 7-9pm
Posted 16 years agoPittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When: Thursday, August 13, 2009
Time: 7-9pm
Where: Schenley Plaza, under the Tent Structure. http://www.pittsburghparks.org/schenleyplaza
In the event of rain: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213
With summer upon us, we should continue to take advantage of the warm weather and longer evenings and try an capture an out of doors venue where we can not only sit, relax and enjoy the free WiFi, but also play a little.
For more information on future meets, visit http://www.swiftsden.net and scroll down to the section titled "Monthly Fur Meets."
Hope to see you there!
