Started working on first winning badge...
Posted 15 years agoJust a quick update. With "Daniel's Reluctant Regression" down in draft form, I could sit down last night, and focus on my drawing obligations. After a fire call delayed my planned start, I managed to put pencil to paper for about an hour and rough out the head and body for Tristen's badge. I'm trying to continue working on a new style of drawing more representative of my icon than what I drew for Hazard a couple weeks ago.
I need to make the ears smaller and a touch more symmetrical, but I think I'm happy with the proportions of everything else. I'm probably going to scan it once I get the ears fixed just to track the sketch lines before I ink it and scan that in so I can redraw the outlines again digitally and begin the coloring process. (I wish I could remember the steps to get Gimp or CS to do it. It had something to do with Alpha channels and layers and stuff. I don't do this often enough to retain anything. :( )
I also got brave and sketched while yapping with Kae, Kit and Relena on Skype. Normally I wait until I'm completely alone and sketch in a quiet room. I'm just that uneasy and self conscious about my skills...or lack of.
A few artist friends suggested that I should play some music, set up Skype or Ustream as that makes things a little more enjoyable and interactive. Well I'm not ready to have folks watch over my shoulder so I chatted and listened on Skype. I have to admit, it was distracting, but it was also nice to have the feel of others around.
I know, i know...Upload or it never happened. :P You're just gonna have to take my word for it.

Posted 15 years agoOkay...I "practice" art when time and muse allow and while I enjoy a finished piece, sketch work is even more awesome, especially if it captures a style or element that I'd like to see if i can incorporate that technique to improve my own.
So on occasion I'll +fav a piece that is nothing but sketchy outlines and body proportion elements so I can come back when I do have time to draw and review.
I have a feeling that the majority of "empty" submissions in my Favorites are these sketch pieces because those are the only +fav's that I see are missing. I have no clue if they were deleted or moved into the artist's scraps and I don't keep a log of which artist I +faved on any day.
So that's my pet peeve and vent for this year. If you're proud enough to put unfinished work up in your gallery; please leave it there or let folks who +faved it know where you moved it to.

[Update] Daniel's Reluctant Regression; Chapter 4
Posted 16 years agoJust thought I'd throw an update out there. I'm six pages into the first draft of Chapter 4 and still adding more to it to finish out the day. I think you'll enjoy the new twists and turns to the story.

Furry Bowling in Pittsburgh! February 27th 6PM

Where: Paradise Island Lanes, Neville Island, PA
When: Saturday, February 27, 2010
Time: 6pm until ??
Cost: $5/hour of bowling (includes shoe rentals)
The bowling alley has offered us a good package for the event too. We have 4 lanes reserved and access to a changing room for those who wish to bowl in fursuit!
The cost will be as follows: $5 an hour to bowl as long as we have 6 people per lane. As of now we can have a total of 24 bowlers but I can get additional lanes as needed. This $5 an hour includes the shoe rentals too!!
Fursuits, tails and ears are encouraged. Fursuiters bowling will need to wear bowling shoes. There is a bar (drink responsibly please) and restaurant there.

11111 Competition Closed and we have a winner!
Posted 16 years agoTwo days ago I noticed that my page views were closing in on 11,000 hits, so I started a little competition to offer a free badge commission to the person who sent me the screen cap of my FA page showing 11,111 page views.
I only expected one...turned out I got FOUR! The four know who they are and the moment has passed. Only ONE of the four tripped it over to the magic number, but I have no way to know which one did it. Only one of the four had the time showing on the bottom of the screen so that doesn't help.
So, fair or not, I have to go with the first person who followed direction and whos screen capture of the event reached my e-mail box.

Aspinwall VFD Annual Cash Bash Tickets Available!!

I'm late with getting the word out with everything else going on these last few months, but I have 17 tickets for the fire department's primary fund raiser; "The Cash Bash."
What's it for?: The monies raised are essential to the continuing operation of the volunteer fire department and providing equipment and training to help make the job of myself and my fellow volunteer firefighters as safe as possible.
When and Where is it?: The Cash Bash is scheduled for Saturday, January 16th, 2010 from 6:30pm until 11pm at the Sharpsburg VFW.

I'm late with getting the word out with everything else going on these last few months, but I have 17 tickets for the fire department's primary fund raiser; "The Cash Bash."
What's it for?: The monies raised are essential to the continuing operation of the volunteer fire department and providing equipment and training to help make the job of myself and my fellow volunteer firefighters as safe as possible.
When and Where is it?: The Cash Bash is scheduled for Saturday, January 16th, 2010 from 6:30pm until 11pm at the Sharpsburg VFW.

Join with us as we take in the festivities and revel in the events of Pittsburgh's First Night 2010 Celebrations and howl in the New Year with fireworks and furiends! Furiends old and new are welcome to take part in this annual Pittsburgh furry event which is fast becoming a holiday favorite full of cozy warmth and friendly cheer.
Held on the coat tails of First Night Pittsburgh 2010, now in its 13th year, the event is a community- and family-oriented, alcohol-free celebration of the arts. Revelers enjoy - and in some cases, join in - the multiple, simultaneous and continuous performances of dance, music, song, mime, story telling, theater, poetry, film, video and multi-media presentations."
That’s only the beginning! There’s much, much more to see and do at this the last Western PA Furry event of 2009 and the first of 2010!
The First Night 2010 website has been updated and they now have a schedule of events listed so you may plan your evening. The buttons which get you into all the venues are still $8. They are available at the Box Office at Theater Square (655 Penn Avenue, Downtown), at participating Giant Eagle stores, and this year you can order them on-line from their website!
There are a few Vouchered Events (http://www.firstnightpgh.org/page_b.....avigationID=33) as is normal. Sil and I are planning to get vouchers to attend the 7:30pm performance of "Johnny Angel & the Halos" and the 10pm performance by the "River City Brass Band." You don't have to follow around with us though. Check out the schedule, join in the excitement, and make your own experience.
Would you like to join the Parade? Great! Simply stop by the Parade Information table located outdoors on 10th Street at the Pittsburgh Convention Center no later than 7:30 p.m. The Parade is five blocks long starts at the Westin if you're interested in bringing your fursuit and joining in the fun.

NASA gives Atlantis a 70% chance for afternoon launch!

The Launch of STS-129 is scheduled to take place this afternoon at 14:28 EST (2:28pm) from Kennedy Space Center Pad 39A.
The STS-129 mission will be commanded by Charles O. Hobaugh and piloted by Barry E. Wilmore. Mission Specialists are Robert L. Satcher Jr., Mike Foreman, Randy Bresnik and Leland Melvin. Wilmore, Satcher and Bresnik will be making their first trips to space.
Atlantis and its crew will deliver two control moment gyroscopes, equipment and EXPRESS Logistics Carrier 1 and 2 to the International Space Station. The mission will feature three spacewalks.
The mission also will return station crew member Nicole Stott to Earth and is slated to be the final space shuttle crew rotation flight.

Posted 16 years agoTechnically I'd be more comfortable with "Writer/Artist" if it was available, but since looking through my gallery I have many more pieces of digitally rendered arts, I've stepped up and changed my Artist Type on FA to... *drum roll please*

Arrive as early as you want and stay as late as you like! Games N'at also has the most reasonably priced snack bar that I've ever seen here in the area.
Shuffle up to the pool tables, get in some fast paced games of air hockey, try your paw at pinball or reminisce with a room full of arcade hits from the 80's. :) If you're not up for arcade games and such, there's plenty of room to sit and socialize or break out the sketchbooks and draw. They've even got a big screen television you can hook your Wii, Xbox or PS3 to if that is your thing.
Fursuits are welcome and tails and ears are encouraged.
So come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs and don't forget your art badges if you have'em! They help us know what you go by and who you are on the inside.
