[EVENT] Pgh Monthly FurMeet!-8/12/10-6:30-9pm-Schenley Plaza
Posted 15 years agoPittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When: Thursday, June 10, 2010
Time: 6:30-9pm
Where: Schenley Plaza, under the Tent Structure. http://www.pittsburghparks.org/schenleyplaza
In the event of rain: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213
With summer upon us, we should take advantage of the warm weather and longer evenings and try an capture an out of doors venue where we can not only sit, relax and enjoy the free WiFi, but also play a little. Schenley Plaza allows for a covered sitting area, as well as grassy areas for throwing Frisbee and the Quad area which has been popular with those playing lazer tag. Food and drinks are available just up the road at the 7-11 on Forbes Avenue, or at the many eateries another block down the road.
Schenley Plaza is a part of the City Parks Conservatory and fursuits, ears and tails are welcome. Pets, and their responsible owners, are also welcome at Schenley Plaza.
In the event of rain, we will return to our old home at the Panera Bread on the Blvd of the Allies in Oakland.
The meet is what you make of it, so come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs! Don't forget to bring and show off your con badges if you have them! It at least helps us know who you are on the inside. :)
Hope to see you there!

Update on Mom; 7:30am
Posted 15 years agoMom went into Surgery Prep at 5:45 this morning. She and Dad caught a train from Metro Station up to NYC at 1:30am. She was scheduled to begin the operation at 7am.
I'll either hear something within the next hour conveying that the docs found a problem with her lymph nodes, or I won't hear news back for four to six hours.
Sil says not to think about it. How can I not think about it. :( *sighs*
Seriously thinking about pulling Nar out and snuggling her at my desk right now.
More news when I get it. Praying that any news I get will be good news.

Mom's having surgery tomorrow...
Posted 15 years ago...to have a golf ball sized cancerous tumor removed from her lung. Three hours of surgery, pending they find no issues with her lymph nodes. If they do, the procedure stops right there.
She'll be getting the work done at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC...one of the top cancer centers in the world.
Worried foxie is worried. :-|
Prayers, thoughts, comforting words and deeds all welcome and appreciated.

Now that the desktop is functioning again, I can play a little bit more. Not sure what I'll do with it...but I have one so I can say I do.
Much of my account is disabled until I buy something so not sure what good telling folks about this will be.

AC Dalmatian Photo Shoot! Sunday @ 2pm
Posted 15 years agoI know it's last minute, but us Dalmatians wanna get together for some photos at Anthrocon, Sunday, June 27, at 2pm. Meet outside of the Westin Headless Lounge and we'll find a spot to take pictures.
Fursuits aren't required. All you need is to have a Dal fursona to join in.
If we're feeling up to it, and the weather is alright, we can walk up to Pittsburgh Engine #3 and get some pics with the fire engine. I wandered up there last year and they loved the company and invited me back.
If you're interested, post a reply here, in <lj user="fursuitlounge"> or in my FA.
*hugs*

Anthrocon 2010 Tentative Schedule
Posted 15 years agoTuesday: (evening) Pick up Patch from airport @ 9:30pm, late dinner at Quaker Steak & Lube. Caddie & Autumn arrive at the Inn.
Wednesday: (evening) Aspinwall Planning Comm. Meeting, Would like to get over to Mehndi & Simbas BBQ however.
Thursday: 7pm-10pm (Move stuff into room in Omni. No plans other than maybe bop around in Ashes.)
Friday: 9:30am - 10pm Looney Labs - 10-Noon (DLCC 306-307). Power of Pretend - 1-2pm Apr(Pennsylvania). Fursuit Meet & Greet - 3:30-5pm Apr(Pennsylvania), 9:30-10pm - Collie Photo Shoot Apr(Outside Pennsylvania)
Saturday: 9:30am - 10pm Making your Suit Live - 11-Noon Apr(Pennsylvania). Fursuit Parade - 1-3pm Apr(Spirit of Pgh). Developing a Character & Performing - 3:30-5pm Apr(Pennsylvania)
Sunday: 9:30am - 10pm Looney Labs - 10-Noon (DLCC 306-307). Get Warhammer 40K Started - Noon (DLCC 306-307). (Bop around in Ashes. Maybe Dead-dog Dance.)
Yeah, looks like some early nights eh? Well we've got Edan and CJ to think about this year. Either Sil or I have to take a 2 hour break sometime around 4-5pm to run home, let them out and feed them, then drive back. Then we'd like to get home, let them out again, unwind a little and maybe get to bed by 11:30pm - Midnight only to get up at 7:30am to do it all over again the next day.
Fursuit Appearances: Ashes will have Thursday night and Sunday. April will be a busy little collie on Friday & Saturday.
Underlined events & activities are those I have a strong desire to be at whether to support the panelists or it's an activity I'm slated to host/coordinate/herd. I'd like to get up and see the Field Day set up, but that is up in the air ATM set against Jim Martin's "Character Development & Performing" seminar on Saturday. I may simply be too pooped to putter around in April for it though or getting showered.
In the middle of all that, I have to swing by the Table-top Gaming Room to check in on things (DLCC 306-307). Whatever time is left is up in the air whether I catch a meal with folks, zip around the dealer's room to say Hi to folks, or what have you. I may be a Babyfur, but I leave that all behind when I'm at a con, sans a con badge or two. Wish I could sit in one spot and relax, but that is not in my character; I've got some pretty high energy fursonas. Not leaving any room in my schedule for casual evening socialization, but who knows, if the right people ask, I may be compelled to make time.
Do's and Do Nots:
Do say Hi or call out my name. Please introduce yourself.
Do give me a hug in suit and out. I am huggable, but please keep my feet on the ground.
Do ask me questions. I'm pretty good at providing answers.
Do Not scritch my suits real hard. I know your scritching me by the pressure and force on my head, back, belly or shoulders. You don't have to apply more than normal force. Better yet, say, "Scritch, scritch, scritch, scritch the puppy" or something so I know and can act accordingly. Please remember this. VERY IMPORTANT.
Do Not try to stop me if I look like a "man on a mission." If that's the only time you've seen me and you need to talk, I encourage you to swing in beside me and do the talking on the way.
Pretty short list; those are the most important though. Everything else I can deal with on a case by case basis.
Well, four more days of work to go and I hope they don't crawl to a stand still cuz I'm excited about the con. It's kind of odd, living and working in the host city. You get to see the calm before the storm, watch the tide of furs come in, experience three days of fun and excitement, and then...it's all gone. All the energy dissipates, the memories remain, and the city goes back to it's calm way of life. Never does a day go by where I don't look at the DLCC or the Westin, or the Omni and think about the last AC or look forward to the next one. Like I said...it's an odd experience few in the fandom get to share.

Trisity and

Art work happens when I have time for me and only if I don't need that time to recover from everything else that requires my attention. This is why my artwork remains stagnant and rare.

July Babyfur Art Trade Theme!
Posted 15 years agoOkay, it's time to get another round of babyfur art trades going!
The theme for July will mix two things which should NEVER be mixed...
If you're interested, I encourage you to join the Babyfur Art Trade LJ Community, look for July's Trade Post and fill out the standard form. If you don't have a LiveJournal account and want to get involved, PM me on FA.
You don't have to be a babyfur or a great artist to get involved. We set this up to provide a reason and drive to keep drawing and challenge ourselves to get better.
Deadline to get in on the trades will be June 11. We'll distribute the trades on June 14. Trades will be due on or before July 11.
Hope to hear from you!

It's been 2 1/2 years since I've had any cub art done!??
Posted 15 years agoI was looking through my Gallery and Scraps to see what the most recent piece of Swifty cub art was and I had to go all the way back to November of 2008...in my Scraps no less, to a self-coloring of Jade Fox's line art.
I'm like, "That can't be right. I'm pretty sure SOMEONE'S drawn Swifty as a cub since then."
The exercise grew out of watching Pander's new YouTube videos full of cute cubby art by Jade, Kalida, StrawberryNeko, Tavi, Reva, and scores of other talented cub artists. Lots of babyfurs...none of them me.
One second...Let me scan through my favorites...
Wait! Okay Tails drew a gift commission for me for Christmas and Tavi "tagged" me on January 10, 2010.
I commissioned SashaDobe in January of this year too and Spiffy in September 2009.
Okay, so I've had no new cub art since January. Phew! I thought I was losing my mind there. I guess I should start asking if I can repost them to my FA so I can show something other than stories and sheltie pics.

[Fursuiting Gig] Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community - Saturday, May 22, 2010
Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Schenley Park, Flagstaff Hill in Pittsburgh. http://www.walkforahealthycommunity.....st/index.shtml
I think this is the kind of fursuiting exposure that would be good for the fandom. My thought is for us to enter the 1 mile "fun walk." We'll definitely need handlers as much as we'll need fursuiters too.
Be aware that these events are set up to be "fund raisers" for non-profit groups. Looking at the list there are a lot of really good ones to sign up to help. There's no requirement to raise money, but I don't think it's unrealistic to set a goal to get five folks to sponsor you for $5 to walk the mile in fursuit and call it a day.
If you're interested please e-ail me at swift AT swiftsden.net with "Walk for Healthy Community" in the subject field.

Meets for June, July, August and September are outdoors at the Schenley Plaza, under the Tent Structure. http://www.pittsburghparks.org/schenleyplaza Weather permitting.

Posted 15 years agoWho's taking Pre-Orders for FCN Badges??
Posted 15 years agoYeah, I'm a little slow on the uptake and quick to delete journal posts without reading them.
If you're watching me and taking pre-orders for con-badges for FCN in a couple weeks, Sil and I have an idea for a couples badge we'd like to throw by someone.
Thanks!

Babyfur Art Trade is up and running with an Easter theme!
Posted 15 years agoThe Babyfur Art Trade LJ Community offers a great excuse to create some cute art for a fellow artist. About every other month or so we set a theme and members of the community sign up. Trades are done like "Secret Santas" so you won't know who has you to draw. Draw the pic by the deadline, which is usually four weeks, send it to your trade recipient, and post it.
All skill levels are welcome, and you don't need to be a Babyfur to join in. This is not a contest, it's a fun excuse to draw for a relatively small circle of artists and friends.
The next theme is to draw your recipient in an "Easter/Spring" themed work. Deadline to sign up is March 22. I invite you to stop on over to the Babyfur Art Trade profile page, Join and then get in on the fun.
*hugs*
