Posted 15 years ago[Fursuiting Op] Aspinwall "Light up the Wall" Parade! 11/20
Posted 15 years agoREMINDER:
What: "Light up the Wall" Holiday Parade
Where: Field Avenue, Aspinwall, PA (Line-up)
When: Saturday, November 20, 2011
Time: 5pm (Step off is at 6pm)
The local furry community has been instrumental participating in other events in Aspinwall and this has earned us an invitation for local costumers to march as a group in this community parade, and even entertain after the parade.
With the parade less than a week away now, I'm asking if there are any local costumers available and interested in participating in this parade; as well as whether there are any furs available to act as handlers for them?
I am already committed to attending MFF that same weekend, but that's no reason for this opportunity to be ignored. If you are planning on participating, please reply here or e-mail me at events AT swiftsden.net.
Thank you!

STORY "Bitter Rivals" taken down temporarily...
Posted 15 years agoKitCoon PM'ed me and asked if he could have the opportunity to flesh out his character's role and interaction in the story I compiled from our IM RP together the other night. I've sent him the original for him to work through. Once he's satisfied with it, we'll get it uploaded again.
Thanks for your understanding and patience. I'm sure it's gonna be worth it!

[EVENT] Pgh Monthly Fur Meet @ Games N'at! 11/11/10
Posted 15 years agoWhat: Pittsburgh Monthly Fur Meet!
Where: Games N'at on Pittsburgh's South Side (www.gamesnat.com)
When: Thursday, November 11, 2010
Time: 6:30p to Closing
Cost: $10 (Play all night!)
Arrive as early as you want and stay as late as you like! Games N'at also has the most reasonably priced snack bar that I've ever seen here in the area.
Shuffle up to the pool tables, get in some fast paced games of air hockey, try your paw at pinball or reminisce with a room full of arcade hits from the 80's. Smiling If you're not up for arcade games and such, there's plenty of room to sit and socialize or break out the sketchbooks and draw. They've even got a big screen television you can hook your Wii, Xbox or PS3 to if that is your thing.
Fursuits are welcome and tails and ears are encouraged.
So come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs and don't forget your art badges if you have'em!
I'll be play testing the "Kobolds ate my Baby" scenario again at the meet. I'll be glad to have some folks join in and help.
For more information and directions, jump over to my webpage at www.swiftsden.net and scroll down to the Monthly Fur Meet section, or visit the Games N'at website at http://www.gamesnat.com!
Hope to see ya there!

Story Edits completed! What's next?
Posted 15 years agoI finally got through editing
tails230's four chapters which involve his an my characters. His task is to improve his own writing and learn from the edited and revised versions of his story as he continues the tale. Since they're not technically mine, I've uploaded them to my Scraps Gallery.
So, what does that leave on my creative plate??
Well I'm still on an art and commission hiatus until I finish up the gift commissions Kristen and Tufts won nearly a year ago. I'll draw no new art, or commission art for myself until I fulfill my own responsibilities. Don't think I have forgotten, they loom over my head and crush what little muse I have to draw.
There's also the matter of finishing up the "Lesson's in Lace" story which has been on hold for a year or so now.
So that's a little update that no one will read.

Change your clock; Change your battery!
Posted 15 years agoDaylight Saving's Time Ends on Sunday, November 7th and clocks roll back an hour at 2am.
Ashes wants to remind all his friends that one easy step can help save their lives and the lives of those around them. Everyone is encouraged to use the extra hour they “gain” from daylight-saving time to change the batteries in their own smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, test the alarms and remind friends, family, neighbors and fellow community members to do the same.
Changing smoke alarm batteries at least once a year, testing those alarms and reminding others to do the same are some of the simplest, most effective ways to reduce these tragic deaths and injuries. Additionally, it is recommended that smoke alarms in homes should be replaced every 10 years and having both ionization and photo electric smoke alarms are the best mix to alert people to all types of home fires. For more information on smoke alarms, types, installation and maintenance, please visit the NFPA Safety Information Page for Smoke Alarms.

4 Pittsburgh Furs left homeless by fire.
Posted 15 years agoFour of our local Pittsburgh Furs,
thrashbear,
firefoxbc,
landis_mclovin and
fire_lupine lost their house this morning due to a fire. How do I know? I was there. The adjacent, attached property next door to theirs caught fire and it extended into their house.
Details of the fire itself are here:
http://swift-fox.livejournal.com/740374.html
Our friends have lost nearly everything they own, besides some clothes and a handful of possessions. While they have received a meager cash assistance from the Red Cross, it's not nearly going to be enough to replace all of what they lost.
http://lildobe.livejournal.com/199892.html PayPal Donation information.
An address of where to send physical donations of clothing, small appliances, furniture, electronics, etc. will be provided as we find out where they're settling in.
Thank you for your help!

[Pgh Fursuit Gig] Witch in the Wall - Aspinwall, PA 7-8:30pm
Posted 15 years agoReminder:
What: Witch in the Wall Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Where: Aspinwall Municipal Bdg, 217 Commercial Ave, Aspinwall, PA
When: Thursday, October 28, 2010
Time: scavenger hunt runs from 7p - 8:30p. Be at the municipal building by 6:30p to have time to change, get your assignment and get to that location.
I know most of the locals have told me that they aren't available due to work and school schedules, however just in case something has changed or other suiters are available to participate I'm spreading the word.
I'll be there in suit to at least keep us in the groups good graces and it would be great to have a few others to join in the fun. We can change in the borough's conference room like we did last year. Even if you don't have a costume or fursuit, we can use handlers to go with the costumers, keep track of time and help them get back to the building.
After the event, anyone who comes is invited to grab some chips and salsa over at Chili's over in the Waterworks.

Pig Flu ain't got nuthin' on this Pandemic!
Posted 15 years agoPlease cut and paste this into your journal if you know someone, or are related to someone, who suffers from stupidity. People need to understand that stupidity is real, and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. After years of research and testing there is still no known cure for stupidity. Sympathy and pity does not help; acting on the natural impulse to slap upside the head, or apply the venerable "clue by four," to the person who's suffering from stupidity has been proven ineffective; and ignoring it only fosters it's continued spread. The best we can do as individuals is raise awareness for this affliction of the mind. Unfortunately 93 percent of those reading this won't copy and paste this into their journal because they simply do not know how to copy and paste.
We get questions like this everyday.
"How do you know if you have the stupid flu?"
Do you get angry, defensive or are in denial when friends and family tell you that you're stupid? That's probably a sign that you're suffering from the affliction and need to seek professional help.
"I think I'm dumb. How do I get help?"
Don't mix up dumb with stupid. There is a difference. However, if you think you may be stupid, just dial 1-888-IM STUPD. One of our trained medical representatives will help you find a doctor or clinic in your area who can help.
Help put an end to Stupidity. Spread the word.

[Fursuiting Gig] Aspinwall's "Witch in the Wall" 10/28
Posted 15 years agoWhat: "Witch in the Wall" Scavenger Hunt
Where: Municipal Building, Aspinwall, PA (Outside of Pittsburgh) 217 Commercial Ave. 15215
When: Thursday, October 28 @ 6:30pm
Local fursuiters have been participating in this children's scavenger hunt organized by the Aspinwall Civic Association for the last three years. We've been such a hit that they keep asking us to come back and participate again.
The event runs from 7pm to 8:30pm Thursday evening, weather permitting. Costumers are placed along a three block circuit to interact with children and their parents during the hunt for pieces of the puzzle. Some costumers may be selected to have a piece of the puzzle, others may not.
Work schedules have really put a dent in the core group which have been participating these last few years so we really need some new blood to come and help support this.
I've posted about this about three times now since September. If you're interested, reply here or PM me with any questions and concerns.
Thank you for your help!

[EVENT] Pgh Fur Meet Tonight! 10/14/10 @ 7pm
Posted 15 years agoWhat: Pittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When: Thursday, October 14, 2010
Time: 7-9pm
Where: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213
Come and relax with friends old and new; break out your sketchbook and be creative over a warm cup of chai; play cards or other table top games; or open your laptop and surf the net over the free wireless connection.
The meet is what you make of it, so come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs! Don't forget to bring and show off your con badges if you have them! It at least helps us know who you are on the inside. :)
If you get there early, start to score us some seating in the area near the door to the back patio and parking lot.
I'm running a game of "Kobold's ate my Baby" to practice a little before MFF.
For more information and directions, visit http://www.swiftsden.net and scroll down to the section titled "Monthly Fur Meets."
Hope to see you there!

[WPAFW] Good or bad, Please give us your Feedback.
Posted 15 years agoI've read many, many positive responses and reports on this year's Western PA Furry Weekend and the staff and I thank you immensely and are glad you had a great time.
However, we'd love to be able to consolidate that to a central point of reference and for that, with the help of Dobe, we've created an "On-line WPAFW Feedback Form."
If you attended the event, I ask you to kindly take a few moments out of your day to visit our site and answer the 10 questions posed. It helps us to know what worked, and what could use improvement. If it's within our means and power, we'll endeavor to continue or correct any portions of the event so identified.
Once again we're glad you had an enjoyable weekend and we thank you for your continued support.

"Witch in the Wall; Children's Halloween Scavenger Hunt"
Thursday, October 28, 2010
6:30-8:30pm
Aspinwall Municipal Building
217 Commercial Ave, 15215
http://www.pa-furry.org/node/1014/f.....ing-witch-wall
We've been participating in this fun evening event for local children and their parents for the last three years now and we've been a huge hit. We'll need costumers and handlers to assist. If you have a non-mascot halloween costume of a "creature of the night" feel free to wear it and help us as a handler though it's not required.

5:00-9:00pm
Aspinwall Fire Station #2, & Municipal Building
Center Ave. & 12th Stree,t & 217 Commercial Ave, 15215
Each year Sil and I go up to fire station #2 to hand out our candy to the local kids and it's been a great time. Trick-or-Treating runs usually from 5-7pm and then the Borough has a Halloween Party with costume judging followed by a short dance after from 7:30 until about 9pm. I'd like to invite any of the local costumers and fursuiters to join us for a fun and interactive evening. Please consider augmenting our treats and bring some snacks of your own to hand out. We get about 30 kids that come by.
"Aspinwall Borough Light-up Night Parade"
Saturday, November 20, 2010
Parade step-off time will either be 4 or 6pm (TBD)
Aspinwall Municipal Building
217 Commercial Ave, 15215
Light-up night continues after the parade is over and the Activity Committee is going to ask the local businesses if she can "station" a costumer or two, with a handler, in various locations as a way to help draw interest and to allow photo opportunities. I'll say up front that Sil and I will be in Chicago at MFF that weekend, however, just because I'm not there doesn't mean that a group can't participate. Like the parade in Wampum, PA coming in December, this is a fabulous opportunity to put our best paw forward!

Western PA Furry Weekend is 3 Days Away!! Oct. 1-3, 2010
Posted 15 years agoWell the Western PA Furry Weekend is only three days away now and I wanted to toss out a few reminders...
We have Supporter Registrations at the door this year. We held it down to the pre-registration rate of $40. That means we have Basic to Supporter Upgrades available at the door also. So if you've already pre-registered at the Basic level...$15 at the door gets you all the perks and swag we offer to our Supporters...ALONG WITH FRONT OF THE LINE PRIVILEGES AT DINNER SATURDAY!! :)
Basic Registration at the event, for Friday night and Saturday, is $30. Can only be there for Saturday? No problem. We listened to your suggestions last year and Basic Reg on site at the park on Saturday is $25. For that you get two meals, dessert, a dance, activities at the park and the hotel, and a few free tickets to drop in the Charity Raffle!
Wait! You say you can only make it Friday or Saturday night? Let my team at Registration know you'll only be there for the night and you can enjoy a little of what we have to offer for just $10.
An industrious local fur took some time to load the WPAFW Activity Grid into a public Google Calendar. If you have a phone that can interface with Google Calendar, this may be a great way to keep tabs on what's going on over the weekend. Western PA Furry Weekend 2010 Google Calendar
It's still Construction Season here in Pennsylvania. PA Turnpike Interchange 48 is still under construction, but it's not too bad. The new bridge over the Allegheny has two lanes open in both directions now. The biggest travel head ache is PA Route 28 going north from Pittsburgh. A four year long road widening project has northbound Rt 28 down to one lane from the 31st Street Bridge (About a mile outside of the city proper) to the Etna By-Pass. It's pretty snarled through there during rush hour from 4pm until after 6:30pm so plan your travels if you're coming from the south and west accordingly. Let me repeat; RUSH HOUR IN PITTSBURGH IS FROM 4PM TO AFTER 6:30PM! Expect heavy delays at the tunnels, bridge crossings, and areas of construction activity. Please plan your travel accordingly.
As usual we have a lot planned for you to do. The WPAFW Staff and I are looking forward to offering you a fun and relaxing weekend in the autumn clad valley along the Allegheny River in Western Pennsylvania.

[WPAFW] "At the Door" rates & Hotel Reservations deadline!
Posted 15 years agoHello everyone!
Well the Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend is just weeks away now, taking place October 1-3, 2010 just outside of Pittsburgh, PA.
Thank you to the 65 furs from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, New York, West Virginia, Maryland, Ontario and Pennsylvania who pre-registered for this year's Western PA Furry Weekend! That makes the record books for this event and we all thank you!
For those who missed out on pre-registration, do no fret. You can register at the event for either the Basic or the Supporter level. Registration opens Friday night, Oct. 1, at 6:30pm at the Comfort Inn – Pittsburgh North. Basic registration is $30 at the door, payable by cash only. Supporter registration is $40 at the door, payable by cash only. If you're coming for Saturday only, Registration opens Saturday at Noon at Fireman's Park in Aspinwall. Basic registration is $25 at the door and Supporter registration is $40 at the door. If you pre-registered for the Basic Level, you can upgrade to Supporter as well by paying the difference. Supporter swag for "at the door" registrants is while supplies last.
Another item of note…
Our hotel room block at the Comfort Inn – Pittsburgh North, and our $75.99 group rate expires at the end of the day on Thursday, September 23rd. That's a week away now so if you're scrambling to get a room or find friends for roommates, don't delay. A room at the Comfort Inn puts you right in the middle of Friday and Saturday evening's dances and activities and the jumping off point for Sunday's Field Trips. Reservations must be made by calling the hotel directly for the room block and pricing. Choice Hotels is not set up to offer this rate through their on-line reservation services.
We have our Programming Grid and Event and Activities write ups on the WPAFW website at http://www.wpafw.org so you can see all you have to look forward to.
So won't you join us for some fellowship and fun in the beautiful, autumn clad Allegheny River valley? The Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend…celebrating our 10th year…October 1-3, 2010!

[EVENT] Pittsburgh Monthly Furmeet! 9/9/10 6:30-9pm
Posted 15 years agoPittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When: Thursday, September 9, 2010
Time: 6:30-9pm
Where: Schenley Plaza, under the Tent Structure. http://www.pittsburghparks.org/schenleyplaza
In the event of rain: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213
With summer upon us, we should take advantage of the warm weather and longer evenings and try an capture an out of doors venue where we can not only sit, relax and enjoy the free WiFi, but also play a little. Schenley Plaza allows for a covered sitting area, as well as grassy areas for throwing Frisbee and the Quad area which has been popular with those playing lazer tag. Food and drinks are available just up the road at the 7-11 on Forbes Avenue, or at the many eateries another block down the road.
Schenley Plaza is a part of the City Parks Conservatory and fursuits, ears and tails are welcome. Pets, and their responsible owners, are also welcome at Schenley Plaza.
In the event of rain, we will return to our old home at the Panera Bread on the Blvd of the Allies in Oakland.
The meet is what you make of it, so come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs! Don't forget to bring and show off your con badges if you have them! It at least helps us know who you are on the inside. :)
Hope to see you there!

[WPAFW] Pre-reg ends in Two Weeks!

Well for those of you still on the fence about attending, we've updated our website with a full Schedule of Activities for the weekend along with descriptions of the events we have arranged for your enjoyment. Aside from the signature "Fur-b-que" picnic at the park on Saturday, we have a puppet show, a menagerie full of fursuit antics, and dances on Friday AND Saturday nights. There are also games, a drum circle, a geocache, and laser tag. If you just want to come, relax and hang out with friends, we've got plenty of room for that too. All this is thanks to the hard work of our Operations Chair Cadpig Lion.
Akira Shima is gathering donations from near and far to once again provide a Charity Raffle that is second to none in the fandom. Our Charity Raffle is run like a "Chinese Auction." To augment the tickets that come with your registration, we sell additional tickets you place in the bucket for the specific items you want to try and win. All proceeds from the ticket sales are donated to our selected charity The Beaver County Humane Society. Over the past two WPAFW's the generosity of our attendees has raised $2500 for this worthy non-profit group.
Pre-registration rates right now are $25 for a Basic Friday and Saturday registration; a savings of $5 off the "at the door" rate for the entire event.
Pre-registration rates for Supporter memberships are only $40 and come with all sorts of swag to sweeten the deal: color print of the cover art, extra raffle tickets, front of the line privileges for lunch and dinner, as well as a special something currently in the works. Also! ONLY Pre-registered Supporters will get a $5 gift card to Denny's...have "breakfast on us" or save it for another time.
Registration will be open at the event. "At the Door" Basic registration is $30 on Friday & Saturday, $25 for Saturday Only. This year you can register or upgrade to Supporter for $40 or the difference between your pre-registered rate and the Supporter rate. On site Supporter registrations will get the same swag as supplies last, with the exception of the Denny's gift card.
We do have a small block of rooms available at the Comfort Inn Pittsburgh North at the rate of $74.99 a night which puts you right in the heart of the action Friday and Saturday nights. Reservations must be made by calling the hotel and reserving a room. The group name and number are available on the WPAFW website.
