Competition Winners!
Posted 4 years agoSo! The time has finally come to announce the competition winners, and hasn't been an easy choice to make. There have been some truly excellent additions, some wonderful storylines... and also some frankly baffling ones as well. I was going to do some honourable mentions, but frankly there's just too many to list here, so without further ado, here are the winners:
3rd Place: Cainiam, with this chapter (https://chyoa.com/chapter/Driving-t.....8End%29.952270). It's a little dark, and has scat content, so fair warning if you're not into those things, but I do really like the Gold Springs take on a classic mob disposal scene. Something I could certainly see as a game over in some sort of weird point-and-click adventure game.
2nd Place: pudding502, for (https://chyoa.com/chapter/Straight-.....8End%29.948663). Aside from having contributed an excellent storyline so far, as well as an interesting industrialist villain, pudding has added an excellent elephant butt-crush scene in this chapter, and I have a deep and eternal love for all things elephant ass. Add it some sweat, gas, underwear TF, and some great writing, and it's a worthy contender for sure.
1st Place: Flattened Fan, for their addition (https://chyoa.com/chapter/Surrender.....8End%29.947009). What can I say, I have a love for Texas being jammed into tight spaces, which are then filled with gas and locked. But in addition to all that, it really is just an excellently written chapter from an author I'm a little surprised I hadn't heard of before. I thought I knew all the good squash writers, but Flattened Fan knocks it out of the park with the quality of their writing, the quality of their content, and an excellent use of Jesse and Jane, winning them the number one spot!
And there we have it! Congratulations to our winners and sincerest apologies to those who didn't make it. As I said, it was an extremely hard decision and a lot of it came down to personal preference on my behalf (since, y'know... that was the judging criteria), but I want to thank everyone who contributed. This has been the biggest addition of chapters the interactive has ever seen, Texas has been squashed, smooshed, farted on, transformed and defeated in just about every which-way imaginable, and rest assured that due to the rousing success this competition has been, this will not be the last one I host! So if you didn't win this time, fear not, there's hope yet!
Thank you again everyone, and once again, congratulations to our winners!

Competition Closed!
Posted 4 years agoThe competition is now over!
A huge thank you to everyone who has entered. The turnout really has been utterly staggering, far beyond what I expected, and there have been so many excellent chapters added! Texas probably hasn't been too happy about it all, but I have been ecstatic to see so many authors engaging with my characters and providing their own spins and twists to the small town of Gold Springs. But on to the details: as previously mentioned, there will be first, second and third-place winners, so I'm going to take a day to revisit everything that has been added over these past two weeks, pick my three favourite chapters, and announce the winners sometime tomorrow.
I must re-iterate that this judging process is not for the best written chapter, or most chapters over all, these will simply be my personal favourite three additions to the interactive. I apologise in advance to anyone not chosen, but given how successful this has been, I certainly think we'll be seeing another of these in the future...
For now though, best of luck to everyone who entered, and thank you again! The interactive's looked so healthy.

Just to Clarify
Posted 4 years agoI realise I haven't been clear about this so it's causing some confusion, but the competition closes at the end of Monday. The midnight between Monday and Tuesday. So there is still just under 17 hours remaining from the time of this journal's posting.
Contest Ending Soon!
Posted 4 years agoJust a reminder that the CHYOA contest ends at midnight on Monday the 7th (AEST) so if you've got any final entries, this weekend is the time to get them in! There's been a lot of great additions, a lot of writers I've never come across before putting out some fantastic work, but after the deadline, any further additions will not be judged! Best of luck in these final days, and we shall have ourselves some winners soon!

Competition Update!
Posted 4 years agoHowdy y'all!
The competition is almost at the halfway mark and it is going swimmingly! We've had so many additions to the interactive that I have slightly lost count, and due to the overwhelming response, I've decided to add second and third-place prizes to the competition!
The second-place winner will receive a short, looping animation, 10 frames or less, with two (possibly three) characters max, and a background, like (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37145292/) or (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/38871741/)
The third place winner will receive an animation swap-out from the game. This is where I take one of the 'mid' sections of a game animation (the looping section where you have to mash the arrow keys to escape), and put your character in Texas's position. To clarify, this prize only applies to the struggle portion of an animation, not the setup or KO. Here’s
Luke8t88’s Tiger providing some examples: (https://sta.sh/01jb841l6uv) (https://sta.sh/01826gyg4voq)
I also want to remind people that the competition is for the single, best chapter. Many people have opted to create their own, whole new storylines for the interactive, and while these have been great, I do want to make clear that each author will only be judged on what I deem to be their single best chapter, so those who do make storylines have no advantage over those that don't. If that is what you want to do though, by all means go for it! I just don't want anyone to be disappointed if they've dedicated time and effort to writing a whole new plot, and I end up picking someone who instead went through and just added a handful of random (but enjoyable) bad ends to already existing chapters.
And with all that said, good luck, and go forth and write!

Texas Interactive Update
Posted 4 years agoHi everyone,
Firstly, game work continues, it's a slow process, but I just finished the last of Butterscotch's animations today. Once that's coded in, we're on to the final boss fight...
Secondly, do people remember the interactive Texas story that exists over on Writing.com? Probably not, right? Because Writing.com is an absolutely terrible site, which has made the story utterly inaccessible unless you pay for one of their ripoff memberships. Well, I have decided that I'm rather done with them (and with needing to pay to read my own story), and so I intend to upload the entire thing over on CHYOA.com instead, giving full credit to the authors of each chapter, but also using it as an opportunity to trim some chapters which were never really in the intended spirit of the story, and alter some of my older stuff, which was written before I had a good grasp of the setting of Gold Springs.
My hope is that by making it accessible again it can be somewhat revived, but if not, it's just nice to know that people can actually read the damn thing without paying through the nose. Currently, my plan is to start cataloguing and sorting through the chapters next week, both because I am somewhat busy, and because I wanted to give any authors who wanted their names removed from the story, or certain contributions kept anonymous, time to inform me of such.
So, in short, starting next week I will start the process of transferring the interactive over, with full credit to each chapter author. If you are an author of one or more chapters and wish for your contribution to be kept anonymous, please send me a note by Monday next week so that I can make the necessary changes. If you'd like a chapter of yours to be edited or outright deleted, that is also possible, so please send a note informing me of the adjustments or chapters you want removed.
And hopefully, before too long, the interactive will be back in the public sphere, as it was always meant to be!
