Deliberately downgraded to Windows 7
Posted 10 years agoTHIS IS SO MUCH NICER. OH LOOK, MY PINNED FILES! THE TOOLBAR DOES WHAT I WANT! HOW SPIFFING!
Accidentally updated to Windows 10
Posted 10 years agoALL MY STUFF IS MOVED! WHO UNPINNED ALL MY FOLDERS? WHY IS SOLITAIRE STILL A THING? THE FUCK IS THIS? WHY DOESN'T THE TOOLBAR UN-HIDE WHEN I'M USING CHROME? THE FUCK IS THAT? I THINK YOU'LL FIND EVERYTHING'S ACTUALLY ON THE E: DRIVE ASSHOLE! GET THIS EDGE THING OUT OF MY FACE. WHY IS THERE A SEARCH BAR IN THE TOOLBAR? NO, THE TOOLBAR DOES NOT APPEAR ON BOTH MY SCREENS. DID YOU CHANGE MY DESKTOP BACKGROUND, BASTARD! YOU MADE A.M.D. CRY! YES I KNOW I'M ENG, YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THAT PERMANENTLY ON THE TOOLBAR TAKING UP SPACE! THE UN-HIDE THING AGAIN. FUCK
...
Photo viewer's nice though, no giant toolbars at the top and bottom mean more picture space!
...
We shall have to wait and see how this develops I guess :/

Substance Painter: Yay or Nay?
Posted 10 years agohttp://store.steampowered.com/app/273390/
http://steamcommunity.com/games/230.....18297016770714
So long story short:
- Sparkbox is poor.
- Sparkbox can make pretty models.
- Warframe opens Steam Workshop.
- Sparkbox plays Warframe an awful lot.
- Nicest stuff gets into the game. Creator gets a cut.
- Right now it's only texture jobs allowed in.
- Warframe creators use Substance Painter for textures.
- All the textures are made for Substance Painter.
- Substance Painter is rather expensive.
That said I've read pretty sweet things about S.P. and if I was in the business to make game assets I'd probably already have it. But I'm not. I make pony boobs and boob accessories. So naturally I'm umming and ahhing over it.
Anyone whose had some experience with dis do please share them. That, or, secret handshake me into a game dev team to give me a proper excuse to get the thing.

It's that time of year again...
Posted 10 years ago... that Hellsing Abridged releases a new episode! :D
And it's Halloween. Initially typed it 'Haloween' so I think I know what picture I'm doing to celebrate.

Computer's buggered again. Going to stream regardless.
Posted 10 years agoThis time it was the PSU that died and in spectacular fashions with a terrific bang.
Going to 'arrange' something with my brother's computer to get all the files I forgot to backup on an external drive, plug the lot into my laptop and stream some boobies tonight.

Computer's unbuggered! Arts and streaming coming soon!
Posted 10 years agoNew fan I installed is VERY LOUD though. May end up taking it out because this is stupid nuts.
Computer's buggered, no arts for now.
Posted 10 years agoSo here's how it went down: Computer's been hanging and crashing ever since I spent all the money I'd saved up on a monster graphics card. Following my brother's advice I'd gone for AMD rather than sticking with Nvidia. I regret this now...
Having tried everything to stop the crashing, reinstalling drivers, motherboard BIOS updates, underclocking the graphics card (underclocking stopped it from getting so hot and seemed to stop it hanging), I thought perhaps it's the CPU that's overheating? How do I cool that down? New thermal paste!
Except rather than use nice and simple screws, washers and bolts the peeps who'd attached the fan holding the heatsink in place had used this queer expanding pins thing. I managed to get one side free but that just broke the existing thermal paste's seal. The other side wouldn't budge and I'm not going to try brute force on expensive kit.
So that's the situation, no broken parts but I can't get at the thermal paste between the CPU and its heatsink to clean and replace it. Until I can, I'm not about to fry the CPU to get at my porns.

Picarto be buggered
Posted 10 years agoNo streaming tonight :/
To the beach for two weeks!
Posted 10 years agoI'm going to be practically without internet for the next fortnight so updates, such as they've been, will continue starting the 13th of July. I'll try to stream tonight.
Multi-screen
Posted 10 years agoIt is neither wise nor possible to get the exact same colour/contrast/brightness settings on two screen that aren't the exact same make...
This annoys my OCD.

Birthday Streams!

Birthday night, Monday 1st June 23:30 GMT Delayed due to excess curry
In which I will do many interesting things and try to catch up with the freebies I've promised awesome sauce artists for their birthdays! That and commission work. And a cake.
Yeah, actually some macro / micro stuff to.

Maybe something along those lines only without the Mother's Day excuse and with ponies?
Update
At the time of typing, it would appear that the general consensus is that the 'donate to inflate' idea is less than agreeable (British understatement runner-up 2015). I've had some time to plan and it would go down thusly: Donating would get you a copy of the high-res render of the picture posted to FA for everyone else and a say on what's going on, so basically they'd be single render commissions paid for by multiple people which are part of a single sequence.
Since I post downscaled copies of commissions to FA nobody misses out on picture time.

Patreon?
Posted 10 years agoJust throwing this out there, who among you would be willing/daft enough to throw a pocket money at me monthly in order to support my good self to:
- Gain access to the high resolution renders I keep for myself
- Enter a request lottery
- Other stuff which I'll come up with in time.

Jiggle bones!
Posted 10 years agoI think I've figured out how to make them. Now I've just got to figure out how to get the physics play fair or at least stop making anime boob physics look good!
Two years of 3D pony
Posted 10 years agoIn just over a week's time it'll be two years since my first submission onto FA so I've been thinking of making something extra special in celebration. That and showoff just how much I've improved so what monstrosity should I create? Post your suggestions bellow!
Taking commissions!

These are my tools to make ponies and pony accessories.
Posted 11 years agoHaving just finished checking out my competition and fellow 3D artists, I found that very few of them ever explicitly say what programs they use so I thought I'd be a sporting chap and point those who want a go in the right direction.
Personally I use Blender (http://www.blender.org/) for my 3D work and Paint.Net (http://www.getpaint.net/) for fiddling about with the renders. For 3D tutorials head to http://www.blenderguru.com/ and http://cgcookie.com/blender/ As for reference material and various other tutorials, which whilst not aimed at 3D work but nonetheless have proved useful to me, I've collected a few on my sleeping DA page http://w-incantation.deviantart.com.....-and-Tutorials
Guidelines!
1: Edgeloops: Study them. learn how they work. Do not attempt to mesh a face without first understanding the importance of edgeloops.
2: Mesh density: The more vertices you use the more detailed you'll be able to make your model but the harder it will be to make it smooth.
3: K.I.S.S.: Use as few vertices as possible: See above and if it doesn't need the extra vertices you shouldn't really be adding them.
4: Do not use triangular faces in a rigged mesh in an area which will be deformed (ie a joint) if you're using a subdivision modifier (or turbosmooth (I think) if you're using Maya). It'll cause nasty looking bits in the final render. Same goes for N-gons (faces with more than 4 vertices).
5: Try to base the mesh topology on the actual topology of whatever you're modelling, it'll look more realistic and function better for it.
6: CHEAT!: Your work doesn't need to actually be perfect if the final render comes out looking perfect, so you don't have to do that massive physics simulation.

So I figured out how to play Space Engineers
Posted 11 years agoThe transcripts should have been recorded, especially when big ol' Red 1 and a respawn ship smashed into each other. Or rather the respawn ship smashed into Red 1.
In other news I've been working on new mesh topology for the Mk9 body concerning how the thighs connect to the pelvis, naturally it turns out there's a fundamental flaw built into the current build so the whole area (and butt...) need to be re-worked. Still, I make the mistakes, learn from them and ultimately make prettier renders.
The rule of thumb I've adopted as of late: Stylizing needs grounding in realism, make sure the broad strokes are all there, hint at the details and people will fill in the rest for themselves.

Computer Troubles
Posted 11 years agoSo today I've had several minor panic attacks after my computer started running slower than my Dad's old desktop which is nearly as old as me (22 by the way) and suffered catastrophic (I love that word) system failure twice today. After some hasty repairs I THINK I've fixed it but the hard-drive was making some unusual noises which sound horribly like grinding tiny bearings. It isn't now which is why I'm finally making a Windows Backup onto my external hard-drive.
TL;DR - Computer just pissed blood.
The backup's taking far longer than I thought, no stream tonight I'm afraid because I need to be up at a reasonable time for a driving lesson... Sorry chaps :/

Tumblr: http://joltbox.tumblr.com/
Yeah... There was already a Sparkbox running around Tumblr so I had to improvise.

Who's now watching me because of Badgerben?
Posted 11 years agoShow of hands! :D
:EDIT: Since Badger posted ze animation of Rarity I made for him to his gallery I've had a massive influx of new watchers. I was tired and bored, a nasty little combination that makes me seek internet attention rather than bed...
