Follow me on twitter for WIPs and such
General | Posted 5 years agoSo I recently made a Twitter account (I am late to the party) - if you're active on there and want to see some more WIP things, give me a follow: https://twitter.com/Soft_scale
I'll still be posting the finished shorts, builds, and longer-form journals/announcements here, I just wanted a separate place where I could post the work in progress clips so this gallery wouldn't get cluttered.

smol update
General | Posted 5 years agoHey all, figured I should give an update since it's been a little while.
I've just finished up some smaller tasks / systems that didn't warrant a full tech demo (FinalIK, softbody physics, layered animation blending), and started working on the actual animations. So now all that's left is filling out the rest of those animations that will be needed for the next short, and for the first playable build shortly after that. :D

On Monetization
General | Posted 6 years agoSeveral people have now asked if I have a Patreon, or if I plan to start one, so I figured I should make a journal about it.
The long and short of it is, and I mean this in the least douchebaggy way possible: I don't need your money right now.
I have a full-time job that pays well enough for a single dude with inexpensive tastes. It's also a job that can be done remotely during a covid-19 isolation, which is a stroke of luck that many people unfortunately don't have. If that's you or someone you know, they could use your support a lot more than me these days.
--
Long term, I do intend to set up crowdfunding and quit the office job to do this full-time, if possible. I'm not sure it will be Patreon, as they seem to have a troubling trend of suspending NSFW fetish artists - it would more likely be SubscribeStar, unless a better alternative presents itself in the interim.
Currently the plan is to wait until after FarmD v1.0 is released. At that point, any dev builds (1.x) would be for supporters only, but major releases (2.0, 3.0 etc) would still be publicly available. It's hard to say when this will happen, since I don't even know for sure what features will be in 1.0. Most of my notes and design docs for this project were started a couple years ago, and much has changed and expanded since then - I need to revisit and reorganize them at some point. But I imagine it will be several months to a year or more, at least.
My main reasons for waiting are 1) I don't feel comfortable putting an unfinished game behind a paywall. It just seems like a shitty thing to do, and raises the barrier of entry for anyone who's interested in my work. And 2) the point of any crowdfunding for me would be so I could quit my job. But I have some financial obligations that I can't just walk away from, so I would first need to be sure that I had a sufficiently large and motivated fanbase to support that. I will say though that the response to my work so far has been incredibly positive and I really appreciate it. <3
Stay safe y'all.

On FarmD
General | Posted 6 years agoFirst post. Here we go. Hi.
I am working on a game called FarmD (as in, "farm dee", not "farm'd"). The D is for dick. Or dragons. Probably both?
It's a terrible name because I'm shit at naming things and I'm not changing it because it's on all my notes and design documents and project directories.
This is a porn game, made in Unity. It will be free, and I don't plan to change that. This is a passion project, to hopefully alleviate the egregious lack of quality dragon porn games out there. It's occupied my evenings and weekends for about two months now. I would love to quit my day job and work on it full time, but it's a little way too early to be thinking about that.
I don't want to share a whole lot of specifics right now, because some of the things I'd like to do will depend on both my ability to pull them off and Unity's ability to support them, and I don't want you to be disappointed. Also, telling you all about it now would spoil the surprise. I like surprises so now you have to like surprises too.
At this point, I don't really have any "story" elements planned out. The main focus will be on the gameplay: pet dragon, love dragon, take it up the ass from dragon. Also, it's porn. You don't need a rich and extensive universe when you can just stay inside and fuck dragons. If you're here because you love a game with deep lore... sorry?
But I do plan to have some kind of "campaign" mode, to keep things interesting with progression and unlockables and such.
I feel I should put a big disclaimer here so y'all don't feel like I pulled a bait and switch later on. This game will NOT require VR to play it. In all likelihood, there will be a "main game" with traditional mouse/keyboard/gamepad controls, and a "VR version" with the same art assets but some slightly different gameplay mechanics.
The first teaser, "Meet Kade", was recorded in VR because I thought it would make a fun introduction to the character, and show a bit of his personality and mine. The first builds of the game will most likely not have VR support, until I get the core game mechanics nailed down.
So, what's next:
Right now, I'm doing a deep dive into learning Unity's core systems. I've been a professional software developer for several years, but this is the first project I've done in Unity so there is a bit of a learning curve there.
Next major parts to do are the player character's model/rig/animation, and learning how procedural and physics-driven animations work in Unity. Putting that all together should give me something in the way of a first playable build.
That's all I've got. You keep being awesome now.
