Basquiat
Posted 16 years agoYeah so sonderjen remembered this movie from a class, and said "OH it's a film about an artist and it's got Bowie playing Warhol!" and I was like, "Fuck yes we should watch that shit."
And we did.
sonderjen forgot to mention, however, that the entire movie is absolutely a feel-bad movie and ends with me in TEARS AND RAGE
But David Bowie did make a fabulous Warhol =O

Last House on the Left - anyone seen it?
Posted 16 years agoOriginal or latest?
Is the latest one worth seeing in theaters?
For context: I saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake in theaters, and was happy. I saw Hills Have Eyes remake in theaters, and was happy. Downloaded Halloween, was entertained but wouldn't have paid for it.
Thoughts?

BOOTSTRAPS not really
Posted 16 years agoOkay. Life can suck. Hard core. And many people fall on hard times. And that's what friends and family are for, right? To help you through your hard time, and you get to tit for their tat when you can.
Well, some people seem to fall on hard times. A lot. And when you step back and think about it, most of these people not only flirt with danger, but openly invite catastrophe into their lives. I'm not saying that people shouldn't live that way if they want to - some people are just like that.
However. Those people, if we say it's okay for them to live like that, need to be able to handle the consequences of their choices. And not in the Plan B kinda way.
If one chooses to live that way, they better have some very good friends, whom they can depend on to help them out of their hard times.
And here's the thing. Good friends =/= random people solicited on a furry site to omg halp me.
Also: if one doesn't have good friends, there are other, legit options: shelters, churches, hostels, prison I MEAN

I want a tutorial for....
Posted 16 years ago...KNEES. LIKE. DAMN.
Some people have trouble with hands, others find their greatest challenge with shoulders. Everyone has at least five tutorials and how to's for the face.
But KNEES, man.
Someone needs to take 30 or so pictures of their knees, standing, kneeling, twisting, extended, flexed, etc, and make a freakin megaposter of knees D=
In lieu of that, anyone got anything? =O

Work work work
Posted 16 years agoOh me oh my my updates here are so bizarrely spaced, it seems D=
Mid-terms are coming up, and I'm peepin' and poopin' myself over all the things I've procrastinated on. I'm in the process of finishing a list of readings to have my Independent Study professor review, so that I can even *start* on my annotated bibliography. This Indep.Study has been a looming cloud over my head, and it will be good to actually *start* on it. My other stress is doing an essay to finish an Incompleted class from last year, another art history thing.
Plus regular mid-termy stuff. In class essay and presentation for Thursday, in Baroque and Rococo. Altered Book due in class Thursday. Spanish mid-term on Thursday (i think...). Astronomy test should be coming soon?... that man is weird/crazy so I don't know.
My folks and grandparents have already booked flights and hotels for my graduation - I'm feeling the *pressure*, man. I'm no good under pressure. eeeeeeeeeeeeee goan 'splode!
I keep telling myself that I'm going to bust it out during Spring Break (week after this), and I really really want to. I must get and keep some minimal motivation.
Hope to: Finish Incomplete Class assignments, and get that shit cleared during spring break. Also, read and review at least two things for annotated bibliography. *crosses fingers*

Dress up your pre-fab red pasta sauce...
Posted 16 years agoSo you buy pre-made marinara because for some reason canned tomatoes are FUCKING EXPENSIVE. Dress up your pasta, and recreate a classic sauce at the same time for PENNIES YES PENNIES:
Strain your pasta, and put it BACK in your pot - turn the heat down to med-lo.
Pour in a splash of HALF N' HALF - enough to coat the pasta and a little bit more.
Pour in a SHOT (or a little less) of VODKA.
Let the pasta, dairy, and liquor heat up - let as much of the alcohol cook off as you like (OR NOT <3)
Stir in your pre-made marinara, enough to coat your pasta.
Stir in a cheese of your choice (I like shakey-cheese because I'm lazy).
Let heat through and FUCKING ENJOY.
(makes one-two servings. BOOST the cream and vodka for company!)
'Easy Vodka Sauce', a new classic!
It's creamy, cheesy, and tastes EXPENSIVE <3

IMPORTANT 'Dollar Commission' update
Posted 16 years agoHey peeps,
This is a heads up regarding a few things relevant to both past and future "Dollar Commission" patrons:
To past commissioners:
Each and everyone of you has privy to a 300dpi scan of your sketch, should you want it! TO GET THIS SCAN: Note me here on the FA private message system with your username, email, and a link to the sketch in my gallery/scraps. That way I can quickly send you your scan without any guesswork =D
If you have paid for shipping and have not received your piece, or a notice of your piece being shipped, let me know! I might have forgotten! You can do this via the private message system here on FA.
To future commissioners:
I thank you for your consideration!
Let it be known that for various reasons the prices of 'Dollar Commissions' has increased ever so slightly - please consider the following link for more detailed information on prices, rules and regulations: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/480744/
To my present commissioners:
Thank you for your patience and continued encouragement =D
Thanks~

omg i'm being stupid
Posted 16 years agoi need to get to class at 9am AND I'M JUST NOW GOING TO BED D=
we just downloaded 'Firefly' and I watched the first five episodes - is loooooove
after finishing Enterprise which made me cry D= but also loooooove.
Oh yeah, I guess I never made an "I'm back!" journal. Well, I'm back from vacation, and have started my OMG last semester!! Hopefully nothing will be so overwhelming that I can't work on my artsy stuff (not just commissions, neither =P ) and get some decent production going. We'll see. I'm not what you'd call a Type A personality - or ambitious at all, for that matter o.o;;;

So I'm on Vacation
Posted 17 years agoSo I've been in CO at my parent's house since the 18th. I'll be here for a nice loooong vacation, till January the 8th. I'm spending most of my time with my family and friends, but I'm still slowly plugging through my Commission List.
As you all might understand, Adult artwork is something they don't really want to see (though they do now about it), and I want to respect that. SO, I am limited to adult commissions in the dead of night, or whilst the parentals are out of the house lololol IT'S LIKE HIGH SCHOOL ALL OVER AGAIN.
Just a heads up to my commissioners, that I am working, just not in ideal conditions ^^;;

Help me with my Bone/Skull collection!
Posted 17 years agoI'm willing to barter and/or buy clean skulls and bones
By clean, I don't mean necessarily pearly white - weather cleaned bones are MORE than fine! Broken and/or beaten are acceptable. Just no ickies or stinkies =D
If you have any bones/skulls you'd be willing to part with and ship to me, I'm very interested!!!
I know a lot of people have access to acreage with lots of wildlife - I'm not one of them!! Help me, please <3<3
I already have:
*oppossum skull <--professionally bug cleaned
*coyote skull <--professionally bug cleaned
*doe deer skull (no lower jaw) <--natural weathering
I NEEDS MOAR MUCH MUCH MOAR
Comment or note if you have anything =D
(I do watch ebay like a hawk, and I know many websites have parts for sale, but I'm more interested in natural deaths o.O;; Killing for the parts makes me sad)
EDIT: HOLY CRAP I GOT A HUGE RESPONSE! Thank you, everyone!!!! Looks like I'll be a genuine bone collector very soon =D Okay, not really, but I'll have lots of it <3<3

Artist Statement.. for art History final waaaat
Posted 17 years agowaaaat
My Contemporary Art History teacher, whom I have almost NO professional respect for (long story short, I think she's dumb, and I've called her out on it in class) wants us to write an artist statement as part of our final.
Even though half the people aren't artists.
Even though it takes a good artist, actually DOING something specific a while to come up with a proper statement.
So we're supposed to: "...state your own goals as an artist, that is, as a creative person (whatever your major). As you craft this statement, consider the role of the viewer for your work." She's also said in class that we're to describe our medium and subject matter (or, I guess in the case of non-artists.. our FANTASY MEDIUM?)
I'm not a bullshitter kind of person - Like, I don't like playing that game. I'd rather just tell her she's asking a very poorly crafted question and move on. But no - she wants us to talk about it during class. siiiigh.
As I stare at my furry porn I must "craft [my] statement." HM.

Tattoo Cover-Up/Redo
Posted 17 years agowow I'm being a journal whore lately, ANYWAYS.
My first tattoo was, of course, done the second I turned 18 and not done by a very skilled artist. Such is life - it's been the way it was, though I've known since a few months after I got it that it would need a cover-up/redo job.
But I can't for the life of me really think of a good concept/image that I want to consider as a cover. I had always thought I'd stick to the same idea as the original, but my imagination is lacking.
So, for shits and giggles, you guys got any bright ideas? Here's a picture of the tattoo in question (skillfully shooped to preserve my modesty): http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/.....atchestox3.jpg
It's based on the Pisces zodiac symbol (whee). The other tattoo I have, that I LIKE, is here: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/.....mpyfacemm5.jpg (I call him Mr. Grumpy Face ^^ )
Anyways. Laugh, cry, and gimme ideaaaaas. I'd like to get this done by the end of the damn decade =P

Status List for "Dollar Sketch Commissions"
Posted 17 years agoThis is a list of those whom have paid, and whose commission is yet to be completed. It's in order from when I've received payment (because I'm exporting the data from Paypal =D).
Commissions are completed basically in order from when I received payment, but I do jump around a little bit. AS ALWAYS: Thank you, EVERYONE, for your patience!
THE LIST, from earliest to latest:
EMPTY
If you do not see your name on the list, please NOTE me with a tactful hint <3

Cat Rescue Charity Auctions
Posted 17 years agoMy friends in Virginia are active in a very small feline rescue effort in and around the Richmond area. They personally foster several kitties at once, as do many of the strictly all volunteer staff, and man adoption stands on the weekends in hopes that their kittens and cats may be taken into permanent homes.
As with every charity and rescue group, donations are paramount. In this rescue's case, it's absolutely essential - the adoption fee is almost 50% less than the actual cost of rehabilitation and vaccinations for each animal, with volunteers sacrificing their own time and money.
Cat rescue is something that I've been interested in for a while, but my current situation wouldn't allow me to take in foster kitties. I can, however, donate my time the only way I can: ART.
I've created a few very small/simple pieces in real media to be put up for a 100% CHARITY AUCTION - s/h fees.
I'll upload new images as I create them, with links to the auctions. The rescue of topic can be found at the website to follow. Spread the word! If you'd like to make a direct donation to the group, that would also be awesome!
http://www.westendcatrescue.com/
SO KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED FOR AUCTION PIECES!!
