I'm not an artist in many ways.... At least not in the common idea here; I can't draw, can't animate, can't really write well, and don;t get me started musically..... but I try really hard to put some love and respect and artistry into my newscast podcasts and videos.

For the audio only part, I try to slip in some humourous references - sometimes I think I'm the only one who gets them, but that's OK.

...but then I hit the Silent nod of the Night, and then all bets are off.

But tonight, I'm working on the video, finally - and am paying such specific attention to timing of images with musical cues... and seeing that I'm such a neophyte at this kind of thing.... but that I am making myself cry at it.

I mean, what I'm doing, why I'm doing it.... it has a large emotional power for me. And I really hope that what I do is seen, in that regards, as worthwhile.

no, I'm not trolling for compliments, I'm just acknowledging for myself how powerful this newscast has been to produce for me.

(*Wince*) Yeah, so... normally I don't go for freebies - I would rather pay for art from artists. Maybe it's a pride thing, maybe it's an old-school-respect thing, I don't know. Anyway....

I recently joined a livestream one artist was doing; it was a Freebie Request stream. Guess the song correctly and get a freebie. After thinking about it a moment, I decided to be cute and popped in.

After announcing myself with a 'Brief Greets, all!' (my usual), I said that I had a request.... that everyone have a safe and happy new year.... and that they could use 2012 as a ref... just add more tails and stripes.

A couple people's reactions were, "dafuq?!" But a couple folks actually got it and understood the meaning and got a smile out of it.

Apparently one mod either didn't or was REALLY following the letter of the rules, if not the spirit... and erased my posts. MUCH to the annoyance of some of the people in the chat; the reaction was, "wait, what? WHY?! He was just making a joke and wishing everyone a happy new year!"

The mod's reasoning was that I made an out-of-rules request.

(O_o)

One of the other chat people called the mod out for going overboard on this and even said they'd like to request a new mod... someone who wasn't so... uhm... Over Eager, I guess.

That person got banned, it seems.

So... if anyone knows about this event or was there for it; I'm REALLY sorry! It wasn't my intention to kick over a hornet's nest! Was the mod correct that I put in an out-of-bounds request? Well, kinda - yeah. i suppose. But really, I do think that person DID go overboard for no good reason. (*Sigh*) I was going to tell the artist when they returned (they weren't there at the time I logged in), but I thought it would be a better idea to just STFU and log out before I caused any further problems by accident.

...Sooooo, yeah. "Sorry".

So, just dropped TinyTribble at the town Senior Center to help with holiday decorations for the town's holiday celebration for next week.... and normally I don't get into town from where I live - I'm at the northern end and work is north of me anyway.

(*Sigh*) My town has a manger scene on the grounds next to town hall.

Now, I know, I know the arguments. But, really?

I really don't want to have this fight with the town over 1st Amendment / Establishment Clause stuff; not while TT is, well.... this young. At least, not yet. Very likely we're going to have SOMETHING happen in the next couple years when someone delves deeper into theology. (She's already had the question come up at school with classmates and she explained what 'atheist' means and why she is such *PROUD!*)

My plan, for the moment, is to write an anonymous letter that calmly addresses the problem and request the manger scene be replaced with a non-denominational / secular display with a generic seasonal message.... but to wait until AFTER new years so as to minimize a nasty, overly emotional knee-jerk reaction.

....or maybe I should just run for Town Supervisor.

Due to having pulled my back at work, I'm calling tonight off, with many apologies. I don't like calling off these shows - but when SNEEZING has me going, "AOUCH! %@*&!#K!" you can pretty well guess why I'm doing it.

I'm considering a new segment during my Wed-Night 80's Bashes; a 10 minute talk about how current everyday tech was 'When I Was Your Age'. Going to pitch the idea to someone to be co-host, but would like to have input. Would this sound like something interesting to / for you?


To have a little depth, one of the things I would want to cover strait away... Television. Not the medium, the physical BOX that is a TV - how different it was when I was a kid... and what it's become now... and what might it become later.


So... does this sound like something worthwhile or have you heard of a podcast specifically doing this topic already?

The Mad Trivia Party was Dr. Bill's show on WBNY-91.3FM Buffalo State College during All Talk Monday, and I was VERY proud to have been asked into the studio as guest listener in Studio B, then Co-Host in Studio A with him. Its because of Dr. Bill that I had my OWN show for a while right before his, "BYTE ME!" - a computer technology show.

So, I'll be running the stream while I work on tomorrow night's show, so I won't be on mic, but if you'd like to bug me on IM's, feel free.

I have a 'THING' going on with my eyes tonight - something like an allergic reaction to something, preventing me from looking at the screen much. So I'm calling off tonight's show in Second Life.

I've gotten into a few discussions with folks about religion before - and I try to be both clear in my position and understanding of others'. Unfortunately I'm not always met half-way by some people. What follows is a quote from someone who disagreed with my position and wanted me to know know just HOW much-so he did not agree.

I would ask you to read this the entire way through before coming to ANY idea what this is all about.

I'm trying to make up for all the years I never went to Mosque. But (Allāh) watches me. He knows, I try to do good. I try to do good. I don't like when somebody else tries to trash my religeon or belittle it. I don't care what religeon you are. I don't care if you're Jewish if you're Atheist. I don't care what religeon. Just, # 1 don't try and cram your religeon down my throat and # 2 don't make fun of my religeon. Because those are the two things I'm gunna get pissed off about. And, you know, people were making comments that you shouldn't get mad when somebody challenges your relegion because Muhammad wouldn't have wanted that. Well, you know what? I understand that Muhammad died for that. And I might be sinning by going after people that attack my religeon. And if that's the case, then so be it. I'm at the point, now, where if somebody trashes my religeon, I'm gunna come back and attack them. And if Allāh doesn't think that's right he'll let me know. Somehow, someway, he'll shut me up. But until that point, I'm not gunna shut up! Because, you know what? When an Atheist tells me.... how do we know that Muhammad was rissen? You know what, dude? If you don't believe in Muhammad, fine. But shut your fuckin' mouth! Don't post it on Facebook! Don't make my religeon look like shit to anybody, because I WILL attack you!

And that's what I tried to explain to this fuckin' genious. Is that, exactly, you were (born) Muslim, you're gunna die Muslim.

Again, this pisses me off that he wants to constantly question the fact that, 'Was Muhammad Real? Was Muhammad....' Don't challenge my shit, dude. Challenge it with your own priest or your own people in your own Mosque and everything. Don't go on Facebook and expect me not to come after you!

But these Atheists are now, are also saying, 'All that stuff was written in books, it was written by man. We don't know if its true.' I don't care if it's true! Because that's what I was taught. That's what I understand. And that's what I believe! I believe that all that stuff is true! Whether its not does not matter to me, because it's in my soul! It doesn't matter if it never happened - If Muhammad was a fictional character. I don't care! Because that's what I believe in! That's what I CHOOSE to believe in! And nobody is gunna change me of that! But don't bash my shit!

I'm not taking away from him that he thinks he's an Atheist now, or whatever he thinks he is. That's fine, but don't trash my stuff!

Yeah - been a while. I know... lemme cover several topics at once:

AnthroCon '12This year was... difficult... for me. Starting off with the weekend being pushed forward (back?) in time... it was one weekend earlier than normal... meaning Tiny Tribble wasn't yet out of school. So getting somewhere for her to stay during a 'school weekend' wasn't easy. Still managed it, though. SO she missed the Monday after AC... Pft... considering school was out on Thursday, not a biggie, I think.

So Friday Night I pull into the parking ramp at 9.30pm while my phone rings. "What time is the Furry Femme Shoot to start? We have some folks down here waiting for you?" (*Sigh*) yeah - got all my equipment out and to the con space and took LOTS of pics... even got the CD's burned. Only handed out a couple of theme to the Ladies..... I'll get the archive together for them so they can get the collection downloaded before I make the pics otherwise available.

Got to meet Beowulf Yawg and  Azh finally - and TRULY proud for that! You guys have NO idea how proud I am for that - truly. Like I said, feel so comfortable meeting you - and that really was a pleasant surprise for me. (And, by the way... thank you for the compliment you gave me... really means more than I can say.)

Got to see LOTS of artists and shake hands and get hugs and touch base and thank them... and FINALLY spent money.... turns out I double-purchase two of  lizardbeth's 'Broken Plot Device' books (ordered online.. then bought in person 'cause I forget to just pick mine up)... on the bright side she did a drawing of Zig and Liz on the inside covers for me.. maybe as a nice-nice. Ah, well. Was a GREAT surprise.

Got to confirm with 2 that my Flashback Newscasts WILL be used on RGSTV - so go me!

Got AgentElrond to sign Tiny Tribble's FurnandoCon badge... so THAT was all cool! (Lesbian Octopus!)

The fursuit parade was freekin' AMAZING! Over 1,000 Suiters! And some GORGEOUS suits too!

Got introduced to  WitchieBunny because, well... I kinda fan-boy'd all over her corset! (How strait or gay am I? I was admiring the corset before I got around to her cleavage! Do I have to turn in my Man Card now?)

Apparently the wild  fossil was spotted in the Dealer's Den - got a HUG from me.. and told me he wants to touch up my tattoo sometime. (Dude... you so rawk.)

Got some private photo shoot time in.. still have to get THAT archive to the person(s) involved. (NO! You're not allowed to know WHO it was or the content... that's the nature of my Private Shoots - only I and the subject know who was involved.)

Recorded my radio show from inside The Zoo - with ZERO issues from FrankenPuter - lucky me! Got interviews with  Iceman and  TigerBlack... STILL have to get the video uploaded to YouTube.... I haven't forgotten, just been hard to get that done!

Had to do a little shuffling around with accommodations at the end, but it was fine. After all, I got to sleep with two women at the same time! (O_o) Notice, I said SHEEPSLEEP....

I got to see a LOT of people - and I am totally spacing on everyone.... mostly, because, right now I'm not too good in the head. Sorry. PLEASE know that I was PROUD to have gotten to see everyone.

..and most importantly - you ALL help remind me how much I wish I could... (*Thinks*) I have a hard time using The-L-Word still, but COLLECTIVELY I do 'Love' you all.

BDSMYou know.... there is a WHOLE WORLD of difference between consensual beatings and abuse. I love knowing the difference.

MLPI just recently had an epiffany as to one possible reason for the MLP 'craze'. Its not exactly grounded in anything scientific, but... here goes....

If you take out the song-and-dance numbers, there is a LOT of the current MLP FiM that harkens back to the old Warner Brothers / Loonie Tunes cartoons, I think. There is an attention to certain consistent details - specifically character traits and mannerisms... but then there is the tip-of-the-hat to contemporary pop culture.

For example, do you remember Pete Puma and Foghorn Leghorn? Well BOTH of those characters were based on contemporary comedic characters of the time! 'Pete Puma' was a version of comedian Frank Fontaine's character, "John L. C. Silvoney", a fairly popular character on Jack Benny's radio show and Jackie Gleason's TV show. Then Foghorn Leghorn was (MOSTLY) based on "Senator Claghorn" from Fred Allen's radio & TV shows.

With MLP FiM today, you have various pop culture refs; from Mare-Do-Well's posters being a direct nod to 'Batman The Animated Series' to Snowflake, the steroid-over-using pony yelling, "YEEAAHHH!!!" to the Flim-Flam Brothers' song-and-dance being an EASY nod to The Music Man.

..and I think that's part of the appeal - the fact that people are able to find these subtle, and NOT so subtle.... let's not call them 'Easter Eggs'. Let's call them what they are: Tips-of-the-Hat. Because if it were just a matter of 'needing' to put those things in the show, would have been more obviously hidden, if that makes sense. No, I think the people working on the show actually have a passion for it... and THAT makes them want to put references in the show that the adults notice strait away but the kids won't... but it doesn't take away from the show's pacing or content.

Think about the Rocky and Bullwinkle show or Popeye. Contemporary references, political humor, entertainment quips abound, but the kids wouldn't realize 'till long after.

I think THAT is part, ONLY PART, of what keeps MLP FiM on the radar screens for the 'Out Of Target' viewers.
