36 Hour Fund Raiser / Radio Stream TONIGHT
Posted 12 years ago(Any reposting / sharing of the following is HIGHLY encouraged, with my heartfelt thanks!)
Tonight, from 6:30pm Second Life / Pacific (9:30pm Eastern) at The Feline Conspiracy in Second Life, I will be hosting the "TGIF @ TFC" show for about 3 hours; Think of it as a "Morning Zoo At Night" where we talk about odd news, WTF News, a Top X List AND the Scary Sexy Toy of the week! If you HAVE to stay home, consider this your way to enjoy some seriously bizarre and fun info!
That show will be immediately followed with my 2nd Annual 36 hour fund raiser radio marathon for "The Ride For Roswell" to benefit the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) here in Buffalo, NY. I've been participating with The Ride since 2005, just one month after she lost her battle with Angiosarcoma - a form of cancer that RPCI had been helping her fight for nearly three years.
Tonight we show our support of RPCI and its goal to eliminate cancer from any and everyone that comes through their doors.

8 Bells....
Posted 12 years agoSo today at 7pm Eastern time, the 22nd of May, marks 8 years since my Fujin died.
No, I'm not going to be well today. But, as always, I go on.
As usual, I will be making dinner for the nurses' station at Roswell Park Cancer Institute's station that was tending to her in her last days; probably going to be Japanese curry chicken again.
I know its presumptuous of me to ask it, but today I encourage people to do the same; bring in some food for a hospital nurses' station that cared for you to say, "Thank You".... and tell me about it. Hell, if I'm gunna go all out, I'll encourage folks to use the hash #ForFujin on G+ and Twitter.
Because, "Why Not"?

Letter to the School.. First Draft....
Posted 12 years agoOk, so.. here's what I've gotten so far. I'm pretty sure I've got enough of the points I need, so consider this more of a "Submission for Critique" instead of a 'Journal'.
Real names are, of course, removed.
To Whom it May Concern
After reading over the packet of information regarding this year's, “Fifth Grade Camp-out”, my daughter, "Tiny Tribble", asked me to clarify for her something in the “Dining Room Manners” section. In this case it was item 3 which states, “Students will stand for 'Adams Family Thanks'.” Being unfamiliar with this, thought it might be a pre-meal talk from the owner / operator of the location, probably named “Adams”. I decided to look up this possibility and fill her in.
The only reference I was able to find that seemed to have any relevance was to something called “Addams Family Grace”; a religious prayer of thanks set to the theme from the 1960's Television Show. This troubled me greatly and prompted me to investigate further into the camp-out.
The packet of information sent home says that the class will be taken to, “Camp Odosagih” in Machias, NY. And will be under the supervision of, “student's[sic] regular classroom teachers and special area teachers” (emphasis added).
My research shows this location's name and use to be different from what was listen in the information we parents were went. The official name of this location is, “Odosagih Bible Conference and Retreat Center”, who states on their website (www.odosagih.org), “Our purpose as a Bible Conference is to minister to you and your family....”
Reading further I grew more and more unhappy with what I was discovering. It would appear to me that the class would be taken from XXXXXX Elementary School, bussed some 25 miles away to a “camp” whose stated purpose is Christian Proselytism.
As you might have guessed, after reading all this, I have HUGE misgivings about this event at this time.
Because of what I have read, I am formally requesting the following information:
1. Why was the name of the “Odosagih Bible Conference and Retreat Center” shortened to, “Camp Odosagih”?
2. Who are the “special area teachers” mentioned in the packet, what are their qualifications and academic affiliations?
3. What interactions will the location's staff have with the children in regards to the location's stated purpose?
4. Were my investigations into the “Adams Family Thanks” correct? If not, I request a copy of the thanksgiving talk that will be used.
5. What kind of guarantees and safeguards are in place to properly protect our children from ANY religious contamination while they are at this location?
As you can well understand I have a number of concerns at this time. I would greatly appreciate a reply on this matter as quickly as possible.
So.... how can I make this better?

Followup to previous journal / clarification
Posted 12 years agoMight want to read this journal to be sure you're up to speed on where I'm going here.
Reminding folks that I live in New York, USA, my highest concern regarding my little one's camp out is that it's being held at a location that claims itself to be a, "Bible Conference and Retreat Center".
There is a little-known clause in our country's by-laws referred to as 'The First Amendment' - some of you might have heard of it. It says, in part, and paraphrasing here, that the government is not allowed to promote or hinder any religion. This has typically been refereed to as, "The Wall of Separation between Church and State".
My highest concern is that if at this "Bible Conference and Retreat Center" the promotion of Christianity (or, really, ANY religion) is promoted or taught By The Staff then they would be breaking the Law - in this case at a Federal Level.
To offload some responses and my answers to them....
... try and find out if this is going to be a Religious experience by talking to a teacher or who ever you can and not send the little one if you're worried you'll have to pull her out any moment. That's exactly what I'm working on; getting my thoughts together to write a letter and get information and assurance from the people who are supposed to be in charge of this. Because once it's in writing, at least, if there IS a problem I have something to back me up with if I need to press the issue.
If you don't want your kid to be raised christian it's easy enough to tell the teachers, "Hey, she doesn't need to stand up during this," or whatever.
It's not gonna hurt her to be in the room while people offer a corny prayer. This just sounds like you're being a dick for the sake of being a dick. The problem is not simply, "let them have thier fun and you Atheists can just wait outside while we have our fun", it's the legality of it all. At the Federal Level it would be illegal while at a moral level it would be demeaning, exclusionary and simply wrong. A 5th grader doesn't need to be told, "You're going to be left out because we believe in a Sky Daddy you don't".
As for being a dick? I'm not at all upset you said that, only confused why you might think that. Protecting my daughter (hell, her whole CLASS) from someone who MIGHT be looking to break her/their First Amendment Rights as a US Citizen hardly seems a dick-move to me.
Question - WHY is a secular public (public?) school going to a "bible conference and retreat center"? that DOES sound like a problem that needs to be addressed.Agreed - and its one I was wondering about also. IN AN OF ITSELF.... it may be a simple thing; maybe it was just a location they were able to secure for the best price for the time wanted.... and the event will be staffed / managed by the school teachers themselves. So long as they keep to a secular event, I'm OK, if squeamish about, where the event is being held. I still plan on writing a letter of disapproval later regardless, just to make sure they know that I think they're skirting a BIG issue... but as stands, pending further problems, I'm willing to wait-and-see a bit.
I'd say not worry about it. It's just one event, after all.And 'just one murder' is still murder, if you'll pardon the indelicacy of what I'm saying. Breaking the law is still breaking the law. Its not a matter of 'WELL, just let them have one little bit...' After all, at what point, then, does the law step in to protect those that need the protection most if not at the first sign of attack?
... If they require that they must pray at mealtime ask if your child can choose to maintain silence out of respect to their custom and if they say all must participate then you have your answer....And the problem with this is, as before, there should not even be a issue like this coming up. I already told her that if the 'thanks' is to have everyone think about and appreciate where all the food came from (the kitchen staff, the farmers, the grocery workers, etc) then I'm all for it! But if there's even ONE mention of a god, then that cross the line and kicks dirt across it to boot.
To help you all along with how concerned I was, I would ask you to read the "Doctrinal Statement" of the facility, as located at http://www.odosagih.org/content.cfm?id=295. I have done no editing at all.
I. We believe that the Bible (66 books, Genesis - Revelation) is the Word of God to man, written by men divinely and plenarily inspired, and that it is the supreme, infallible authority in all matters.
II. We believe in God the Father, Creator of heaven and earth, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
III. We believe in the pre-existence and deity of Jesus Christ. We also believe that the Son, Jesus Christ (Messiah), was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and sinless in His life. He is atonement for the sin of men by His substitutionary death. He was buried, arose bodily from the grave, ascended into heaven, and is presently at the right hand of the Father interceding for believers.
IV. We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and regenerates, indwells, seals, teaches, and fills all those who receive Christ.
V. We believe that the Second Coming of Christ for His ransomed church is imminent, the next great event; that at Christ’s revelation to the world after the great tribulation, He shall set up His literal, worldwide Kingdom and reign over the world for at least a thousand years.
VI. We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners, but that those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior are freed from the penalty and power of sin, rejoicing forever in God’s presence. Those who refuse to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are forever separated from God.
VII. We believe that Spirit-directed witness is a personal responsibility of individual Christians in the salvation of others. Part of this witness is separation unto God, from worldliness and ecclesiastical apostasy.
VIII. We believe that a person must admit he is a sinner, repent of his sins and receive Jesus Christ into his life personally as Lord and Savior to have the “new birth” relationship and become a child of God.
IX. We believe in the Church, a living, spiritual bond, of which Christ is the Head and of which all regenerated people are members. We believe that a visible church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, buried with Him in baptism and associated for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that to these visible churches were committed for observance “till He comes”, the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and that God has laid upon these churches the task of persuading a lost world to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and to enthrone Him as Lord and Master (Rom. 12:4,5; Eph. 5:23; 4:11-13; I Cor. 12; Matt. 10:15-18; Acts 2:41; I Cor. 11:23-26). As an extension of the church, it is the purpose of Odosagih Bible Conference to enable the church to fulfill this task.
X. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex. We believe that God disapproves of and forbids an attempt to alter one's gender by surgery or appearance. (Gen. 2:24, Gen. 19:5, 13; Gen. 26:8-9; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1:26-29; I Cor. 5:1, 6-9; I Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 1:4)
XI. We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. (Gen. 2:24; Rom. 7:2; I Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23)
Considering this collection of 'We Believe....' statements, if it any wonder I'm worried and looking for input?

Need some secular counsil, please....
Posted 12 years ago(Copy / Pasted from Facebook)
(*Sigh*) So.... I'm thinking I *MAY* need some counsil on this one. My little one (in 5th grade) is going on a 5th grade camping trip in June - the traditional 'graduating elementary school' treat. She was looking through the rules and asked me about this in the Dining Room Manners section; "3. Students will stand for "Adams Family Thanks".
I was confused by that and decided to look up the venue since this didn't smell right. They're going to be at "Camp Odosagih" in Machias. (And before you go Googling that one, yes... it IS what I was afraid of.) The only 'Addams Family Thanks' I was able to discover was this ( http://www.users.ms11.net/~gsong/Gr.....une/addams.htm ).
Now there is one possible saving grace here, if you'll excuse the term. IF its just a matter that the class is renting the facility and the teachers ONLY will be administering the students in a purly secular fashion (the schedual as written up is 100% secular...), then I'm willing to grudgingly let this slide, but with a letter of dissaproval later.
Of course, if it becomes a preaching event.......
I've explained to the little one what the situation is and what I'm worried about... and impressed on her that if there is ANY mention of a god BY STAFF, that she's to immediately tell them to call me; depending on what's happened I *MAY* want to take her out strait away.
I'm going to write a letter to the teacher tonight giving her my position and concerns... but I'd like input from you folks on what you think I should include, what points I should hit, to make sure I'm well understood and to make my concerns clear without going over the top.
Thanks guys... I really appreciate any help on this.

Where will you be?
That's going to REALLY depend on a lot of factors. I make it a point of getting into the Dealer's Den to shake artists' hand to thank them for sharing their talent with us / me.... And Artist's Alley for the same reason... And the Zoo...
Where are you staying?
The Doubletree
Who will you be with?
robotechtiger,

Again, that's.... complicated.

FIRST TIMERS....
The last few years I've made journals for first-timers to AnthroCon to help you cope and stay safe. Those journals are....

FURRY FEMME SHOOTWhen: Friday 5th from 9pm - ???
Where: Convention Center Third Floor - Opposite end of the hallway from "Spirit of Pittsburgh" Ballroom.
Who: All Female-Character Fursuits are welcome to participate in the shoot, along with their assistants / handlers, of course.
I will be burning CD's of the shoot for all the participants, so please find me before you leave A.C.! I will be in the Zoo the following night recording my show - come find me there!
Additional photographers / videographers are welcome to take photos / video also, however, this is an unsanctioned event - meaning "My Shoot, My Rules" for everyone. Even though I do not charge in any way for this shoot, I still treat it with the highest of professionalism regarding the people and equipment involved. With that in mind, please be sure you understand the following conditions.
1) The point is to have FUN and to give the Furry Femmes a little something SPECIAL to remember the con with.
2) The safety and well being of the suiters is PARAMOUNT at all times. If a suiter needs a break, or a drink, or air, and asks you to help with that, by being at the shoot you WILL help that person. (No one likes calling 911 to a FurCon.)
3) There will be some fairly expensive photography equipment in use. Be mindful of where those items are at all times. Gravity is a bad way to turn off a photo lamp.
4) A certain manner of decorum will be expected of everyone. Meaning, don't be a creep! If the ladies don't feel comfortable with a pose or for you specifically, for ANY reason, let it go and just enjoy taking other shots.
And, most importantly....
5) I am the primary photographer - so I will be making the most suggestions on poses or positioning equipment.... as I get my shots, you will be welcome to get some as well yourselves... AND feel free to make suggestions as we go along. Who knows? I might like what you think of.
PRIVATE PHOTO SHOOTSSince I will be bringing ALL my photo equipment, I will be available for 'Personal' photo shoots Saturday or Sunday. As with my past offerings, the only people who will have copies of those shoots will be Myself (naturally) and You, burned onto CD Rom. I will not post / release ANY photos without specific word from the suiter(s) involved. Ever.
Trust is my most valuable trait - and I will NOT compromise it. Period.
THE FELINE CONSPIRACY'S WED-NIGHT 80'S BASHAgain, this year, I will be recording my show from The Zoo on Saturday evening, from 8pm until 12am, local time. If you know someone that you'd like me to interview, please let them know I will be running and available after the Dealer's Den closes. I'm, of course, hoping that
kagemushi will be able to show up again.... maybe
Jibba... we'll see.
The show will be broadcast the following Wednesday night starting at 9.30pm Eastern time at http://LiveDJ.TFCsl.com
Right now, that's it! If there's something I seem to have forgotten, please let me know.

That Bad-Assed Mental MLP Image...
Posted 12 years agoIt goes a little something like this....
(This is, no surprise, because I'm a lover of Luna's story so far and thinking she's not gotten nearly enough time for her own story / history to play out....)
The scene is in the old 2 Sister's Castle (S1 Ep2)... Celestia on the floor (as when she was beat by Queen Chrystalis), Luna standing in front of her, head down, horn active, teeth gripping, eyes pure white and glowering, ready to continue the fight / defend Celestia... the Mane Six (wearing Elements), obviously in the fight just moments ago, shocked at Luna taking the point position... the image viewed from 'under' whatever it was that just torched Celestia - not able to see who / what it is, but the vision blocked by the legs / body.
I can see what it looks like - hell, I downloaded a BUNCH of character images so I could cobble together the image for myself, so I could TRY to sketch it out for myself.....
I cannot afford to pay anyone at all right now. (You don't want to know what my current debt is.) But... if there were something I could trade, I would, gladly.
I am NOT asking for a charity piece - so please don't think that's why I posted this. Just....
I think my muse just 'needed' to get this out of my brain tonight.

Heads Up - A.C. Furry Femme Shoot 1st announcement
Posted 12 years agoHello, all! Time for me to make with... DA MAJIX!
I will see about creating an image announcement shortly, but I wanted to remind folks going to AnthroCon this year that I WILL be hosting the Furry Femme Shoot again this year Friday Night!
The Furry Femme Shoot is a special photography opportunity for Female Suit Characters to get photos together and individually, away from the large bulk of the convention.
Over the last few years I've been VERY proud to hold down the fort, so to speak, for
laurenrivers and
Shrag who started the tradition. And with your presence it will continue again.
Some past photos have been:
FFS '11 thank You - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6169812/
FFS '10 Recap - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4171638/
FFS '10 Full Shoot - http://www.practicallyimpractical.com/AC2010FFS/
FFS '09 Collage - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2488167/
After I get the shots done, I burn CD's that night for those that were involved in the shoot - though I'm not always able to get them to the people that are owed. So if you would like a CD, please find me at The Zoo Saturday Night while I'm recording my show.
So, now, ladies, it's time to think about what you want to wear for the shoot - and if you'll be able to make it. I would be HONOURED, as always, to service you again this year!
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Tribble
(PS... mind spreading the word a little?)

Furnal Equinox / Toronto.... I AM IN YOU!
Posted 12 years agoWith only a minor stop at the border, the drive to the
FurnalEquinox hotel, we are here and got dinner at Harvey's. If you EVER get to a Harvey's location, EAT THERE!Burgers so gooooood....
Opening ceremonies in an hour, then planning on seeing folks and I still have to prep for tomorrow's show. I *MAY* be able to stream it. No promises. I'll announce here and on Twitter if I can.
See you all SOON!

Furnal Equinox 2012 - TOMORROW!
Posted 12 years agoSo, after I get done with work tomorrow (Thursday), I'll be winging it from Downtown Buffalo (right near the Peace Bridge) to Toronto for
FurnalEquinox ! Yeah, TinyTribble and I are kinda excited about it. After all, this is my yearly birthday gift to myself and the little one, lots of friends to see, lots of Harvey's burgers to get (HOM-nom-NOMnom!)....
And its just a great weekend getaway. After all, we don't really take a vacation, like... ever.
So if you're planning on coming out, please consider joining my panel (Online DJ & Podcasting) Saturday at 11am in the Collingwood room. Later in the Zoo from 1.30 - 5.30pm I'll be recording my Wed-Night 80's show, specifically playing military-themed tunes while the fursuit parade is going on. Kinda like last year.
SO.. if you have tunes you'd like me to be sure I have, PLEASE feel free to bring in a USB device of some kind and I'll punch it right into 'BOX'(*) and add it to the collection.
Additionally, if I CAN stream it, I will. I'll be sure to make announcements via F.A., Twitter and G+ - with the hash-tags #FE2012 & #WN8B ...
Hope to see you all soon.. and safe travels one-and-all!
(* 'BOX' is the name of this new computer. HOWEVER... I am re-thinking the name. I will see what others have to say about it shortly and announce it's new name, if any, soon! Would it still be a Sci-Fi name? Yes. Would it have everything to do with how it looks? 100%.)

Posted 12 years agoThe 4th is mere minutes away for me, but I'm dead-tired. SO! I'll just say, "Nighty-night"... and will look forward to my 39th birthday!

UPDATE on BOX... Stable? Nearly Done.
Posted 12 years agoBeen using BOX most of the day under Ubuntu.. and it's running well so far! Celestia (the program, not the princess) does well for it - so we're about 2 steps away from full power.
Next to be done:
1) Hook up old hard drive and use it for data.
2) Get Internet DJ Console up and running with the Jack Audio Connection Kit.
The 2nd one might be tougher to do, but its about to be finished!
...I hope.

Posted 12 years agoAm typing this from BOX right now...
I MAY have fixed the problem - no promises yet. However I was able to rip out / reinstall the video driver/configuration system... FROM A COMMAND LINE, no less! And she's... wait, 'He's'? ... booted up so far.
Am dropping in various programs to get things running and will report back later today with additional info.
Yes, Veronica, there IS a silver lining in that mushroom cloud!
..and Strontium-90.

Current DJ shows Canceled (Info)
Posted 12 years agoCopy/pasted from group notes in Second Life...
As most know, FrankenPuter ate itself. Purchased an Off-The-Shelf machine ("BOX" / HP H8-1414 'Envy) to replace it.... and am STILL having problems getting Ubuntu to run. Due to this, I am going to cancel this week's (Feb 25 - 28th) shows for myself; I need to figure out WTFH is going on with this machine, get it booting, get the DJ system installed.... because I have to DJ at Furnal Equinox next weekend!
I'll have updates on FurAffinity and Twitter (ShujinTribble) as I can. I'm sorry.
So, here's the latest info....
The 'Secure Boot' system is bypassed.
The BIOS BOOT display is on and waits for me to select the HD to boot from.
Ubuntu DOES begin booting into a full screen without odd flickering....
--but the boot does not complete.
I'll be working on this hot-n-heavy for as long as it takes to get Ubuntu running... because, worst case, I have to have it running / working for Furnal Equinox, since I'll be recording my DJ show during the fursuit parade.
(*Sigh*) All I know is, once I have this fixed, it'll NEVER be an issue again.... 'till I have to fully reinstall everything AGAIN. So, say, what? 2 or 3 years?

Computer Update re: "BOX" (*Palmface*)
Posted 12 years agoOk, so... lemme tell you all what's going on, 'cause.. you might not believe some of this....
1) "BOX" refers to "Logan's Run"
2) Windows 8 first impression upon boot up / display, no lie.... "....da FUQUE is THIS?!" (Seriously, that's what I said.) Win-8 MAY be good on a small-screen device like a phone or tablet, but holy SCREW what the ever-lovin' HELL where these people thinking, putting this interface on a desktop computer?! It makes ZERO sense to me at all! Hell, I'd rather have GeoWorks than this candy-coloured rainbow-puke screen. I mean, please! This is a computer! There is a well-established system for working with one, based on the work desk. How freekin' hard is it to use this as, MINIMALLY, an optional default?
And that brings me to the NEXT part.....
3) Over the last couple years, it would seem SOMEONE (And I won't name names, Pacific-North-West-Of-The-U.S.) has convinced various (all?) motherboard makers to institute a BIOS-Level "Security Check" of the installed components of the computer to ensure they are all Win-8 Secure products, otherwise the computer won't boot. So, when I hooked up my previously bootable drive into the machine, taking out the Win8 boot drive and power it on.... "No Bootable Drive or The Drive Has Failed". (O_o) ...."Der FOOK?!"
So... I'm in the process of, "Your Mission, Tribble, should you choose to accept it....." to learn how to get around the damned lockout....
Right now, I need... NEED this thing working n time for Furnal Equinox! Damnit!

Newsest edition to the house, "Box"
Posted 12 years agoFor the first time in nearly 20 years, I actually bought a computer.... IN A BOX... from a store. (Not Parts!)
In this case, "Box" is not a ref to having bought it that way. Its another Sci-Fi ref along with TW1k1, DrTheopolis and MoonBaseALPHA, in my house / network.
I'm putting Win-8 through it's paces now... first impression for me is.... not a good one. (*Eyeroll*) BUT! I got FireFox, Kerbal Space Program is coming down, Second Life viewer will be next... then I'll be calling it a night. I'll be adding the Ubuntu HD tomorrow.
OH! 'Box' is an HP Envy H8-1414 PC. Effectively it's the BIG-big brother of FrankenPuter in many ways - including a Gigabyte motherboard, AMD CPU.....
and DAMN this thing is silent! Eeeerie!

Weird brain question (CD/TV topic)
Posted 12 years agoEvery once in a while my brain bubbles up with odd things all on it's own. I attribute it to the continuing healing process, even nearly 8 years later.
So.. here's the most recent baffling question it came up with;
At what point is someone (male or female) considered a 'cross dresser' or a 'transvestite'? Meaning, if a young teen tried on 'opposite sex styled clothing' due to curiosity does that count? What if it's a piece of clothing from one's significant other occasionally worn when separated for comfort? Does it matter if its for mental/emotional comfort vs eroticism? Does it matter if its visible or hidden?
