AC Gloatings or Fandom vs Community
Posted 16 years agoSome of you might be over all the AC journals and such... and last time I only had MAYBE two journals... but this time I have more to say... FAR more, but I'll try to keep it short...
On my emotional side, huge-HUGE thanks to
cyberhornthedragon and
Fossil for the tattoo experience. Both guys totally understood me, known about me and why I was doing it. (*Bow*) Domo Arigato Gozaimastu. I am very humbled and grateful.
On my "artistic" side, I have to send a HUGE thank you to
beowulf who not only remembered me (poor sod), but who had some VERY complimentary things to say about me.... and offered to explain to me how some of his technique works! I'm not going to become a drawing artist.... but I would love to get far better than I am with my colouring techniques.
I was also HUGELY happy to get to meet my Second Life family from The Feline Conspiracy - Tau, Katja, Merlot, Aaron, Cheeyote, Enumclaw, Fitz, Thohi, Jynx, Cyberhorn.... I know I'm missing a couple names right now - I'm sorry.. just still so brain burnt. Thank you ALL for being there, it was a-freekin'-MAZING!
And then, there is my PRIDE.... and since I have the OK to gloat all I want, here we go....
I offered
Laurenrivers to help out with the Furry Femme Shoot for AC-'09; I thought I'd be a backup photographer... maybe a gopher...
I ended up being the principle photographer and absolutely LOVED the experience! When all is said and done I got 20 Femme Suits photographed either in group or individually.... and it was amazing to be able to put together so much of what I've been learning for the last 2 years into something so visible!
I mean, come on.. this is The Furry Femme Suit Shoot! I didn;t realize what a big deal this is for me - a relative nobody, really... and here I am doin'.... and doin' WELL, no less! The shots (what I have so far) look GREAT! And I'll be able to post the best once I have the OK's from the original suiters - they get the first pics for review. That's only fair.
And last but CERTAINLY not least, I have to thank the folks I stayed with at AC-'07, my first AC: Panthras, Roj, Felix, Zervon and Caliope....
And finally, Verm. Its because of YOU that I was there. Its you I thank, deeply, because you helped me find a way through some of the worst loneliness after loosing Fujin. These cons have been amazing for me, and I thank you deeply.

The Ride for Roswell that (ALMOST) wasn't...
Posted 16 years agoThey moved the check-in location....
...AGAIN!
We lost a good 15 - 20 mins just walking to the (YET AGAIN) New Rider Check-in.. then BACK again... Hell, if I'd known it was that far a walk, I would have taken our bikes!
We check in, get our rider numbers, WALK back... get over to the Start/Finish line where LOTS of riders are coming back.. and ask if we could go out....
The 3 milers had already gone 15 mins before and it would be a safety problem if we go - potentially crashing into people coming back already.
...while taking this all in, I was just trying to come to grips with how to explain to Tiny Tribble what's happened.. and the person did a little running and talking with RideOfficials...
..and they gave us the green light!
So we got to go anyway! A couple spills on the way for TT (still a little unstable with the training wheels), but we DID it! Picture collage to follow later tonight!
Thank yous go out to
LaurenRivers

Grawal and "BigBlue"
cyberhorn_the_dragon for the previous "Go Get Em!" msgs....
And a HUGE thank you to your Second Lifers who contributed roughly $700 USD to this cause...
I am DEEPLY grateful, and humbled.

REPOST: First timer's guide to AC'09
Posted 16 years agoI posted this journal in time for AC'08.... I think the info is still VERY accurate. (Heavy Duty THANKS to
CigarSkunk for the original info.)
I learned a lot about what to expect and what to plan for from cigarskunk 's journals last year (AC07). Read those first and then come back here:
* How to survive a furry con - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/145324/
* Convention survival guide part II - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/151467/
Done? Ok.. Now, here's something from ME that'll seem odd, but go with me on this.....
When you go to a con (doesn't matter which one), remember that the vendors and artists there are operating a business first and foremost. Yes, it's GREAT to be able to meet them (trust me, I was rather overwhelmed getting to meet a LOT of these folks first-hand), but they are there as business people first.
If they're working / selling things / talking with someone already about a commission or a product or speaking with ConStaff, give them time to do it. Be patient. They aren't going anywhere and they know you're there. If they try to interrupt someone they're already talking to to tend to you, tell them to finish up first.
Seriously... Good manners go a LONG way to making people WANT to give you an extra minute of their time after.
Once you have your chance with them, put out your hand and give a firm handshake and, before anything else, THANK them for sharing their time and talents with you.
Again, its not just good manners, but you have to remember - these people (artist and non-so-artistic alike) share a part of themselves, even if it's just comments and insights posted on a comment board.
They don't HAVE to... they CHOOSE to! That deserves some gratitude - a simple handshake and a 'Thank You' mean a hell of a lot to folks. Seriously.
OH, yeah.... and if you DO buy something from an artist, consider paying an extra dollar; JUST a dollar. Why? Simple! Consider a waiter/waitress' tip - the 'double the tax' rule here for me puts a BASELINE tip at 16%. If you get a $10 sketch, $1 is a 10% tip.
Come on... you know what a waiter/waitress would say about you for leaving a freekin' 10% tip? (never mind what you might find your food flavoured with the next time you went in to eat with him/her!)
And really.... what's an extra dollar? You'll be spending a LOT of money at the con already just getting in and parking and gas and lodging and food and.....
What does it all come down to, then? Simple....
Go the extra niceness mile - be considerate - use good manners.....
Yep.. it's all good info.... and I look forward to seeing some of you folks this year!
* HUGS: Accepted, generally speaking.
* GROPES: Uhm... Would need to be someone I know and trust.. so generally speaking no, unless it's "innocent" (EG - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/653738/ )
* SEEING: There will be a NUMBER of folks from The Feline Conspiracy in Second Life that I'll be seeing.. plus I have plans on seeing Cigarskunk and Capt Kitt and Yunicoon and Lilifox / Babs and Fossil (yes, planning on ink...)
* SUIT: In my normal outfit you'll see me in a Japanese headband with a red dot in the center and sporting my white-and-blue yukata (sumer kimono). At other times you MAY see me as a Tribble Head... assuming I can make the damned thing.... (*SIGH!*)
* ARTS: I can't draw worth a damn... but I will have my camera with me and I intend to get LOTS of photos again this year! (So Suiters Beware!)
* SPECIAL: I WILL be in The Zoo a lot and I WILL have Apple Pie and Genmaicha with me... and folks will be encouraged to doodle in my doodle book if they like it... talent or no. Hell, I'll take autographs!

Effing BRILLIANT! (Carmen Sandiego)

Original Post by "Tommy":
One day Carmen Sandiego is sitting in a Paris coffee house, reading the newspaper. One the front page is a mug shot of the Riddler, and the adjacent article is filled with glowing praise for "the greatest detective of all time." Loving a challenge, Carmen decides to take a trip to Gotham, to see just how good he is. What happens?
Further down by "Titan Gojira":
Superman: "What's up, Bruce?"
Batman: "Working on a case. Carmen Sandiego stole the Batcave."
Superman: "That sucks. Don't worry, we'll get the League together at the Watchtower and locate her."
Batman: "Can't. She stole that, too."
Superman: "....."
Batman: "I'd go check the Fortress of Solitude if I were you."
Effing... DAMNED.. FUNNY!

Posted 16 years agoYUP! It's finally here! My Birthday Week!
As a family tradition, I decided (a few years ago) that in addition to your Birthday-Day (all 24 hrs of it) getting what you want, mostly.... you ALSO get far more control during your birthday's calendar week!
So if your birthday falls on a Wednesday, for example (*HINT-HINT*), your Birthday Week is from SUNDAY to SATURDAY of that week. It's easy enough to plot for; Just find your birthday on the grid and use a highlighter to block off that whole week!
So, now.... let us commence with the Jokes about me turning 39! (I'll Start)
How old am I? I'm around 39....
--and I'll KICK you if you say I look like it's more like my second time around!</Borrowed from Jack Benny... who isn't using the joke right now.>

GIMP.. it's not JUST good software....
Posted 17 years agoSo today, out here in the Western New York area (around Buffalo, NY), I was out running deliveries in this crap (LOTS of) snow weather. Only 3 deliveries, so a light day.. no worries!
$INSERT: murphy.h
My first delivery, I get to the place and see lots of snow in the parking lot... Light fluffy snow. "No Problem", says I. "The van can handle this."
$MAKE: murphy.h
UNDER the Light Fluffy Snow.. was a SHEET of 1 inch / 2.5 cm thick ICE! How did I know this? 'cause the van started to skid back and to the side... and the rear tires/tyres dug an ice-bowl so they could be all snug in the ice.
The older "gentleman" (And I use the term to refer to his sex, only! ..and by 'older' I mean 'The Greatest Generation' older) running the joint came out to help.. such as he could. His "help" consisted mainly of telling me that I was hopelessly stuck, that I wouldn't be able to get out, to TRUST him on this, and that I should just wait for his plow guy.
(^_o)
Well.. when's your plow-guy supposed to be here?
Dunno. We open at 4.30, so before then.
Could you call him and see when he's expected - maybe ask if he's close to come on down for me?
Nope.. he doesn't carry a cell phone.
(Ok, now, see.. here we are in the Buffalo, NY area.. you have someone that plows your business' lot and you have NO idea when he'll do it, nor any way to contact him in a pinch. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.......)
Well... lemme have that snow shovel and that spade.. lessee what I can manage.
Y'r not gunna be able to get it out of there. TRUST me. Why not just come inside and call someone to pull you out?
Thought Bubble:
(*Maybe because anyone that tried would be skating on the ice same as me? ya THINK?!*)
Thanks.. but I'll just try digging out.
(And into the place he goes....)
1/2 hr later, I'm STILL trying to get enough of a ramp with the ice to generate some momentum - 'cause if I can get some, I can roll her back down the little slope and to the street.
Finally, after some prodding from my home office bookkeeper / Jackie of all Trades, I go inside and tell the boss and another gent there (he's important later) that I NEED to get the van out and I'll need his help to do it.
You want my WIFE to come out and help, too?(*Obvious sarcasm*)
At this point, I'll take any help I can get.
You know, y'r gettin' kinda PUSHY.
Boss - I got a job to do. SAME as you. I'm just trying to get it done. Now I could WAIT here for your plow guy, who'll get here sometime around 4:30--
We OPEN at 4:30!
...but you don;t know WHEN before that, nor can you call him to find out. Bottom line, I just wanna get out there and do my job.
You'll NEVER get it out of there. TRUST me.
All I need is a good old fashioned American Try - that's all. She's wanting to slide sideways now. All we have to do it work with that, push it sideways so it'll use the slope to get down and out. That's all.
Now, that important guy before, turns out to work for $Big_Name_Food_Distributor... and he offers to help too... So out we go!
$sudo make install murphy.h
So after a few false starts, we're able to get her sliding sideways... GUST like I said we could.. and the old guy gets over-eager and tried to back up to the street... only to glide sideways again, putting the rear-driver into more snow-bank.
BUT! There's ICE in that drift - enough to get leverage... so I decide to turn 'round and put my back into it, literally, and SHOVE with my (VERY large) thighs!
$run murphy
...and it WORKS! the van, skids sideways, free and clear to navigate backwards and to the street!
...except for that pesky NEWTON!
I lost my support (the van), making me loose my balance (Oh, CRAP!)...
And I impacted on my ankle in a manor unbecoming to genial conversation and proper decorum.....
I cursed up a blue streak 'cause I twisted it something FIERCE! (How do you know it's not BROKEN?! Simple - no white bloody sharp things sticking out of my skin. How ELSE do you know? )
Meanwhile, the knob-head boss did SQUAT for apologizing, didn't help get me to the van after... never mind admitting he was FUCKING WROOOOOONG! You CAN get the van to move!
(As for the guy from $BNFD... I took his business card and I'll be SURE to send him a THANK YOU for helping!)
I'm home now, likely going to be here a few days... (*SIGH!*)
So if anyone has some Healing Karma just sitting on a shelf collecting dust, I could REALLY use some now...
And as for 'The Greatest Generation'... I'm sorry to say, today *I* was ' The Greatest Generation' where he failed.
He failed HARD!

RECIPE MEME - Start
Posted 17 years agoJust because... I wanted to start a Meme that was PRACTICAL for a change... So here it is:
==========================================
RECIPE MEME
Rules
1) Final Result MUST BE EDIBLE!
2) Final Result must be fairly unique (not readily available at typical restaurants)
3) Must not require a BA in Food Prep to complete
4) Must not cost a Gajillion Dollars / Euros / Rubles / Yen to complete
4a) ie - 90% off-the-shelf ingrediants.
5) Must be under 1 hour in total prep / serving time.
6) There is NOOOOOO..... "Rule 6"
7) Link back to this journal and reply with your journal if you complete your own.

- Shujin Tribble's RECIPE MEME -
Japanese Tempura Gohan
Ingredients:
1 Lrge Egg
1.5 Cup Ice Water
2 Cup Flower (Sifted)
2 Cup Panko Flakes / Japanese bread crumbs (Separate bowl)
Assorted Vegetables & (BONELESS) Meats to fry
Broccoli, shrimp, chicken, zucchini, red or green peppers,
onions, turkey, eggplant, potato, scallops.... it's all good.
1 Cup Japanese rice per person (I recommend 'NASHIKI' brand rice)
Use of a rice steamer is HIGHLY recommended - you can usually
find them at a local discount store for aprox $20.
1 Wok or similar good-sized pan for frying
* Oil for frying - will need enough for 2 inch / 5 cm deep oil bath
1 High-temp (oil or candy) thermometer
Steps:
1 - Rinse rice until water is lo longer milky and begin cooking following directions on cooker. (It'll keep just fine - don't worry)
2 - Pour oil into wok/pan and begin heating at a med pace. Oil will eventually need to get to 350f/175c, so take your time. Due to the high heat, consider peanut or canola oil.
3 - Cut up meat / peppers into long strips, veg's into rounds. Should not be thicker than your thumb to cook well.
(*NOTE*) Oinions may not want to hold together. Consider
toothpicks / bamboo skewers to hold them together.
4 - Blend egg into water by hand
5 - Pour flower into sifter and sprinkle into egg/water. Keep mixing until large lumps dissapear
** Oil MUST be at temp now....
6 - Dip meat/veg/fish into batter to coat, then transfer to bowl with panko flakes and cover with panko. (I like to use a covered container and shake the panko to cover evenly.)
7 - GENTLY lower the tempura into oil, watching the oil temp closely. Keep it as close to 350f/175c as you can. (You should be able to do 5 pieces or so at a time without seriously changing the temp.)
8 - Keep turning the tempura to cook evenly. When the tempura becomes golden brown remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain for 1 minute.
9 - Serve with rice while still hot!
(Optional) You can find Tempura Dipping Sauce an use that instead of soy sauce. It's a FAR better taste!

Twas the morning of Christmas...
Posted 17 years agoTwas the morning of Christmas...
Now Four Twenty-two.
The last of the wrappings done!
Oops! --missed a few!
And all through yesterday
while I was dreading and moped
There was this one little piece of me
buried inside with some hope.
Its not a shiny piece.
Hasn't been for some time.
But at least I can say
that it's mine, all mine.
Its small and it's dented,
and it's covered in moss,
and you'd never believe it's hist'ry
sneer at it's source.
But still, I can tell you
with honesty and aplomb;
that this single flicker of Love
and stability and calm
will YET survive boldly
even if a bit battered.
Even if it IS duller now;
NOT that that matters.
And yet, TT's sleeping,
all warm in her bed...
Full of excitement,
and SANTY CLAUSE in her head!
I DO feel like a failure.
This year, at least here.
And I don;t use a crutch
of wine, rum or of beer.
Maybe two-thousand-nine
will change things around -
for me to stop hurting
and my heart be, soon, found.
No matter the outcome,
I'll continue to say,
"Merry Christmas to all...."
And with Peace may you Stay.
g'night and g'morning, Everyone... I wish you Well and Peace.

Holliday wishes... and apologize....
Posted 17 years agoIt's 23 Dec, I'm about to get the lights ready for the tree (FINALLY!), and I have to apologize to you all who wanted cards....
I've been in a bad mood for... a while now. Really bad. Lonely. Depressed? Maybe. Just very.... unmotivated.
...and because of that, I've not gotten much of anything done this holiday season - even going as far back as Halloween.
So those waiting for Christmas cards... PLEASE be patient! I promise I'll get them out.. I PROMISE! It's just....
I just hurt.... a lot.
Add onto it all that one guy I know, someone I call a brother ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1120698/ ), "Doctor Bill"... was recently (as in the last 10 days) diagnosed with a form of Leukemia while living outside Charlotte, NC. He requested to be 2nd opinioned & treated back here in Buffalo at ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1642014/ ) Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).
He's a friggin' AMAZING man, triathlon runner, smarter than a fox, funny as hell.... he got me on the radio and, after a fashion, was instrumental in getting my my own radio show for a while!
He's tired, unhappy, miserable.... and I don't blame him one bit.
Me? (*Shrug*) No.. I'm not doin' great.... but I keep trying.
So, don't loose faith in me yet. I'm still trying, still going.
Slow, sure.. but still goin'.

== NO EXCEPTIONS ==Help with TFCWN8B DJ Intro?
Posted 17 years agoAs you likely know, I do an online DJ thing on Wednesday nights... and after listening to myself, I'm realizing that I need a proper intro / info announcement... since I, apparently, can't do it worth carp on the fly.
What I'm really looking for help with are the closing zingers at my expense. Right now I have two that I thought were kinda OK.....
1) "And now, the only DJ that could dye his hair flourescent green and masquerade as a tennis ball: SHUJIN TRIBBLE!"
2) "And now, the only DJ's who's mortal Enemy is a Vacuum Cleaner: SHUJIN TRIBBLE"
So.. anyone want to contribute ideas for potential inclusion?

And now our Royal Host and DJ, Lord of the Dust Bunnies, SHUJIN TRIBBLE!
And now our DJ and Part Time Chimmney Sweep, ShUJIN TRIBBLE
And now our DJ, cleverly disguised as a Pom-Pom, SHUJIN TRIBBLE!
The world got you down? Our DJ Shujin Tribble will buff your day to a bright shine.

Read.. and watch (Cal Prob 8 Rant)
Posted 17 years agoI think Captain Kitt Wickliff has stated it as well as any of us could - California's Proposition 8 ( Need to Copy/paste link since FA's systems don't like the link as written - LINK> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_8_(2008) <LINK) - the official ballot language said it was to "Eliminate(s) Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry."
When you listen to the video at the end, be listening at the 5 minute point for the following quote, because, truly... this is what it all boils down to to me. (Emphasis added, but should be pretty damned close to what he says)
You are asked, now, not to stand not on a question of politics; not a question of religion; not on a question of 'Gay or Strait'.
You are asked, now, to stand on a question of Love.
All you need to do is stand and let the tiny ember of Love meet its own fate. You don't have to help... you don't have to applaud it; you don't have to fight for it....... Just don't put it out. Just don't extinguish it!
Please... I implore you all... please read, please listen... then, choose as you will. I won;t tell you how to think about this issue... only that you think about it with a fuller understanding of one side.
Thank you.

Dad's Fighting Rules for Kids
Posted 17 years agoSo
Vixens-N-Pizza just had a journal ( http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/504004/ ) about how a kid that's pushed and pushed and picked on FINALLY defended herself...
Well, here's what I've been teaching TinyTribble about fighting....
ShujinTribble's Rules On Fighting
Rule 1. DON'T!
Rule 2. If you HAVE to, fight to win!
Rule 3. Don't be where the fight is - meaning if someone wants you to follow them to a 'neutral field', don't. More than likely it's an ambush. OR don't be where a fist will be.
Rule 4. Use ONLY as much force as you need to - If your opponent is down, leave them there; don't kick them or help them. Its up to them to stay down, leave, or re-engage.
Rule 5. If they come at you a third time, do whatever it takes to stop them getting up again. Upper arms can be SUPER painful points when hit with a fist or headbutted.
Rule 6. Kicking a shin, or the groin, works wonders to incapacitate someone in one shot.

What's been goin' on?
Posted 17 years agoI'm not going to lie.. nor exaggerate or beg. Just gunna lay it out there....
Right now, I'm in the hole - and by that I mean in the Thousands.
After a trip to ohio I ended up with a radiator leak - had to be replaced because my car INHALED a bird - cracked the damned radiator.... THAT was about $700 alone....
..roughly 1/2 what I get from SSI for "Survivor's Benefits" from Fujin.. and for the last few months, that was ALL I was getting 'cause of TT being away from school / couldn't work.
..add to that the steady debt accumulating on my credit card...... and NOW the school taxes just coming due for roughly $3500......and I'm owing double that right now. (*SIGH!*)
So, yeah.. is The Trib-Meister a little stressed and upset he can't get the commission he wanted? Yeah... yeah he is. but he's STILL wanting to.. just... has to figure how.
On the BRIGHT side, the boss-boss did say he was going to up me $1/hr! I can't tell you the last time I had a raise. Seriously!
Let's hope I can get this money thing back under control.

"...20 years to life." (emotional)
Posted 17 years agoIts come, again, that time when I
head out to college land.
A day, you see, unlike the rest
...a day I cannot stand.
This day, long past, was life's great wish.
I wish I could go change it.
For The Fates, you see, hated We
and tossed us in Hell's pit.
So on this day I remember
the days of Might Have Beens.
I'll head out to were it began
and, with roses, walk in.
Twenty years, a lifetime ago;
that "chance" meeting with her.
And every year, I return here,
remember who we were.
Two Soul Mates had found each other.
So rare to see today.
She was my Life, my Heart and Sun.....
Help me brush tears away.
I'll visit Fredonia's band room.
The place we first laid eyes.
And in that room I'll lay roses....
Before my gaze will rise.
Its late, my Fuj. Time to sleep.
I'll have to get up soon.
Twenty years goes by so quickly.
Please watch our T.T. bloom?
7 Sept 1988 - Fujin Tribble shows up late to band class at S.U.N.Y. Fredonia and is waved in by Shujin Tribble, telling her, "Y'r in the right place."
...Two hrs later she sees him again and says, "I know you!"
...he didn't have a clue until she explained about band.
Matane, my Fujin..... Dream of me.

What D&D Character are you?
Posted 17 years agoBlame my Sis-in-Crime,
Cheska
Take the test and find out for yourself: http://www.easydamus.com/character.html
Ability Scores:
Strength- 12
Dexterity- 13
Constitution- 12
Intelligence- 12
Wisdom- 16
Charisma- 18
Alignment:
Lawful Neutral- A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs him. Order and organization are paramount to him. He may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or he may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government. Lawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot. However, lawful neutral can be a dangerous alignment because it seeks to eliminate all freedom, choice, and diversity in society.
Race:
Half-Elves have the curiosity and ambition for their human parent and the refined senses and love of nature of their elven parent, although they are outsiders among both cultures. To humans, half-elves are paler, fairer and smoother-skinned than their human parents, but their actual skin tones and other details vary just as human features do. Half-elves tend to have green, elven eyes. They live to about 180.
Class:
Monks- Monks are versatile warriors skilled at fighting without weapons or armor. Good-aligned monks serve as protectors of the people, while evil monks make ideal spies and assassins. Though they don't cast spells, monks channel a subtle energy, called ki. This energy allows them to perform amazing feats, such as healing themselves, catching arrows in flight, and dodging blows with lightning speed. Their mundane and ki-based abilities grow with experience, granting them more power over themselves and their environment. Monks suffer unique penalties to their abilities if they wear armor, as doing so violates their rigid oath. A monk wearing armor loses their Wisdom and level based armor class bonuses, their movement speed, and their additional unarmed attacks per round.
Makes sense.. always wondered where my alignment might be....
