I have a question - opinions needed about MAYBE upgrading FrankenPuter's Brain / CPU.

My system currently is:
MOBO -- Gigabyte GA-K8U-939 (rev. 1.x)
CPU -- AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3700+ (2.2 Ghz) Socket 939
MEM -- Fully Populated at 4GB
OS -- Ubuntu 10.04 i386 / 32bit (I know, I SHOULD be using the AMD64bit version... Sue me. I'm still planning on it.)


I'm SERIOUSLY considering buying a new Athlon X2, since the Mobo can handle whatever 939 chip I want to throw at it, supposedly....

My question to you guys is - For the fastest performance, I'm assuming an X2 will do the trick (instead of, say, the FX line)... but should I see about a ~2.2Ghz speed or push for 3?

...and do you have suggestions on where to get one for Relatively Inexpensive (ie I aint payin' no Five-Hundred-Dollars!).

TinyTribble and I went to see it Friday... SUPPOSEDLY in 2D, though, apparently, there was a 'mistake' and it was really the 3D version we were there for.... (^_o) eeeyeah, I'm thinking it wasn't quite a mistake, but whatever.

So, what can I say about this 30-year-in-the-waiting Chapter 2?

First, the movie DOES open with a warning that the movie will have 2D and 3D sections and to leave your glasses on the whole time.... so, yeah. Those stories are true for you.

Visually, she's GORGEOUS! Very Anti-TRON colour scheme. TRON was very White-With-(Blue/Red)-Highlights - this time it's Black-With-(Red/Yellow/White/Blue)-Highlights.... There are some GREAT nods to the original movie (listen for the various Sound Effects), the DeRezz method is very different, the Recognizers are... well... 'Different'....

As to the story... to be honest, I'm still trying to digest it all; a combination of MAYBE bad script / MAYBE needing to think more about it. IS there enough info to justify a finale'? I think so, yes... IF she does well enough.

Will we go see it in IMAX 3D? The FanBoy in me says YES!!!

The time dilation between The Grid vs Real World is amazing! I did the VERY ROUGH math... and assuming 1sec RealWorld = ~8hrs GridWorld.... Remember the trailer when Sam and Kevin say:

This journal is about my opinions regarding the legality about Cub Porn in general. NOT, in any way, about why the AUP / ToS changes happened. For the record I fully support the staff here at FA for making a choice that they knew would ignite a drama-bomb.... but, as said before, "The Needs Of The Many...."


I've been going around and around on this thing, debating and trying to come to an understanding... and I keep coming around to the same conclusion in my head...

The Legality, meaning the legal rationalization, for outlawing Cub Porn is bogus.

There.. I said it.

Look, I've always understood The Law to tell you what you cannot do: you cannot take something that is not yours BECAUSE YOU WILL HARM SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE, you cannot attack someone BECAUSE YOU WILL HARM SOMEONE'S LIFE , you cannot set fire to a building BECAUSE YOU WILL HARM SOMEONE'S PROPERTY.

The idea of Laws is to protect the safety of The Public. Go against The Law, meaning going against what society calls The Public Interest, and you will have to answer to The Public & The Law.. meaning go to trial, of course.

Now, here's the tricky part - it IS possible to question the legitimacy of The Law... and that's where I'm chiming in right now.

I've seen so many people commenting thusly:
"Cub Porn is only thinly veiled Kiddie Porn / Child Pornography and that's just sick and indefensible!"
Actually, it's not.
* Cub Porn is, for one thing, a completely created, artificial, fictitious, non-corporeal, non-sentient, immaterial construct. There are no damaged lives, minds or emotions in creating Cub Porn.... unless you count the guy at the pencil-making factory when he finds out what people have been doing with his product.

* Child Pornography is the use of living, breathing, sentient, aware, under-aged REAL PEOPLE, who do not have the capacity to give Informed Consent, to create photographs or movies or audio recordings that place them in sexual positions that they, themselves, would not have been involved with otherwise. There are significant mental, emotional and developmental traumas caused by creating Child Pornography.

People who look at Cub Porn ARE Pedophiles and should be arrested and have their nuts lopped off with red-hot piano wire!
* First off, let's get our terms strait - a Pedophile is someone who has a romantic (maybe even sexual) attraction to under-aged people, usually classified as 18. There are a number of situations where nearly ANYONE could be classified as such. Remember Jasmin of Agrabah? Remember how old she was in the movie? 15 years old! The Sultan said she had to get married before her 16th birthday... and it was only Three Days Away, he says.

Did you have an attraction to Jasmin? Congratulations, not only are you, by some classifications, a pedophile, you're NORMAL! Biologically speaking, organisms want to procreate with someone who will deliver healthy, strong offspring. A young partner, just beyond puberty, would be a good candidate... strength of body and several years ahead for making said babies.

Now, actually ACTING on those feelings? Molesting or having sex with someone under the age of consent is illegal and wrong because it's with a REAL person... and that makes you a Child Molester and / or a Rapist.

There's the diff - you can look at someone and be attracted to them, and that's fine. But once you touch them, that's it, you're in a whole new (legal) world. (Sorry for the pun.) Look no further than the Child Molestation Scandals in the Catholic Church to see what it means to cross that reality line.

Do people, young and old, have naughty thoughts about Jasmin? Hell YES! I do too! But that's the diff - she's not real, and I know it.

AH-HA! YOU know the difference but what about all those OTHER perverts that can't tell the difference? huh? What about THEM!?
* Sorry, but that's a red herring too. By that logic, someone who likes slasher movies is a mass murderer waiting to happen.... or that an artist that draws lots of images of wrist cutting is three steps away from swallowing a bottle of Drano... or someone who writes stories about war is the next Infantry Commander. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Let me draw a picture of a Cub being stabbed to death fourteen times, bleeding an ankle deep river of blood on the streets of New York.... then take that to any District Attorney and ask for me to be arrested for Murder based on that drawing. The only thing I'll have been guilty of is using Sharpie markers in a way no-one should EVER use them.... 'cause I can't draw fer crap.

Are there going to be situations where this will happen anyway? Certainly - just run the numbers and guesstimate the probabilities. If there isn't a 00.0000...% chance of it happening, then it WILL happen, sooner or later. Can you tell who it will be? Nope. No one can.

Same thing with Zoophiles (romantic with animals outside your own species). Does looking at cartoons of anthro'd animals, or even feral versions, make you wanna go out, right now, and bone the family goldfish? Yeah, didn't think so.

After all this long windedness, it all comes down to this for me:
Cub Porn isn't Real People. Child Pornography IS.
Stop wasting time on artists whose content you don't like for whatever reason and go after the REAL criminals; the ones who are raping, figuratively and literally, the innocence of youth around the globe! Wanna start with an easy target, Get After The Catholic Church! they've been the biggest, world-wide collection of child molesters... but they get a pass because they're part of a shared mythological superstition? SPARE ME!

...and just to make it fair, how about this - if the god of the Holy Roman Catholic Church wants to shut me up, this'll never get to the server. I'll die right here and right now, mid-sentence. Maybe kill me in a way that makes no logical sense... SMALLPOX! Man eradicated it, let me be struck down by Smallpox and I'll take the crack about Roman Catholics back. (I was born into a R.C. family.... I know about church, thanks.)

I know this is long, and I KNOW it's likely pissed off some people.... most of you know I'm an even-keeled kinda guy, not one to take lightly to a hot topic. Hell, I have my own daughter that I have to teach well to protect herself too. So believe me when I say I've given this whole thing a very hard going-over in my mind.

One of my regular listeners (UnrenownTech) of The Wed-Night 80's Bash was kind enough to come up the instructions on how to listen in via ANDROID-based phones... and it's ready for Mass Consumption!

Normal Text is from U.T.'s instructions with slight modifications for the Xanadu stream. I will make notes in Underlined Italics.

** LISTENER NOTE **

----Start----Requirements:
- Cell Phone running Android OS

NOTE: There are other “Free” apps that stream Shoutcast but the few
that I found would not let me add a custom stream to the list.

1) Install Retro Radio from the Market and start it up
(EDIT - In case Retro Radio becomes unavailable, there is a Backup Download through my DropBox now.)

2) Bring up the Menu by pressing your phone’s Menu key (didn’t see
that one coming huh?)

3) Retro Radio’s main menu should show four (4) buttons:
a. Add
b. Info
c. About
d. Preferences

4) Tap the “Add” button

5) You should see three (3) fields:
a. Station Name
b. Website
c. Description

6) You can enter any information you choose; I did mine this way:
a. [Station Name] - Xanadu Radio
b. [Website] - http://cp1.digistream.info:10644/index.html
c. [Description] - Xanadu Radio
PLEASE note the website's address - it is the stream's address with port number AND the "/index.html".

7) Under those fields you should see a circle with a green plus (+)
symbol labeled “Add Streams”; tap it.

8) You should now see two more fields:
a. Stream URL
b. Bitrate

9) It is important to add the URL exactly as you see below:
a. [Stream URL] - http://cp1.digistream.info:10644/
b. [Bitrate] – This field can be left empty, it will automatically
detect it when the show is streaming

10) Click "Save" and you are done!

*FYI* - You will not be able to connect except when a show is actually streaming…

7) Under those fields you should see a circle with a green plus (+)
symbol labeled “Add Streams”; tap it.

8) You should now see two more fields:
a. Stream URL
b. Bitrate

9) It is important to add the URL exactly as you see below:
a. [Stream URL] - http://76.74.249.54:8112/listen.pls
b. [Bitrate] – This field can be left empty, it will automatically

Obviously someone else's stream address will be different, but I'm assuming this to mean that the URL should include the trailing slash.

10) Click "Save" and you are done!

*FYI* - You will not be able to connect except when ST is actually
streaming the show (duh)…

I'm not one to suddenly start BAAWWWWWing at things, ever... but a part of the story was simply.... overpowering.... to me.

In short, in the first light of the morning on 1 May, 1975, the KIRK escorted Republic of Vietnam ("South Vietnamese") ships of all descriptions (meaning 30 South Vietnamese navy ships and dozens of fishing boats and cargo ships, some BARELY sea-worthy) away from the area... with somewhere between twenty to thirty thousand refugees between them; one cargo ship was so filled with people, it was literally sinking under their feet.

As the the Kirk, her group and other US Navy ships that joined up, were headed to the Philippines, Then-President Ferdinand Marcos did not want to anger the North Vietnamese government by admitting passage to the South Vietnamese Standard-Bearing ships.... meaning the Flags.....

South Vietnamese Capt. Kiem Do, came up with a solution
"We will raise the American flag and lower the Vietnamese flag as a sign of transfer [of] the ship back to the United States, because during the war those ships are given to the Vietnamese government as a loan, if you want, from the United States, to fight the Communists. Now the war is over, we turn them back to the United States."

There was a frantic search to find 30 American flags. Two officers from the Kirk were sent aboard each Vietnamese ship to take command after a formal flag ceremony.

Rick Sautter was one of the Kirk officers who took command of a Vietnamese ship.

"That was the last vestige of South Vietnam. And when those flags came down and the American flags went up, that was it. Because a Navy ship is sovereign territory and so that was the last sovereign territory of the Republic of Vietnam," he says.

"Thousands and thousands of people on the boats start to sing the [South Vietnamese] national anthem. When they lower the flag, they cry, cry, cry," Do remembers.
I grew up near the ocean on the south shore of Long Island, New York. My grandfather taught me a lot about having respect for the Sea and what it means to be on a vessel, away from your homeland, at the mercy of the water and what your ship's flag represents

When I heard how they "struck the colours" to ensure the safe passage and humanitarian help for these people... out on the water... homeland gone... they, these few, were the last peoples of the Republic of Vietnam.

I can only imagine the feeling they had - and the bravery to do what needed to be done.

I know I've been turning a few heads with recent posts, so I figure I might as well just put this out there.

And let's get our terms strait here:
Theist: someone who believes in a god.
Atheist: someone who does not believe in a god.

Agnostic: someone who is skeptical of the existence of any god.
Antitheist: someone who does not believe in the possible existence of a god.

In this light, I am ATHEIST AGNOSTIC: I do not believe that there is a god, or even many gods, but I am willing to explore the possibilities to see where it takes us.

In the normal course of events, I do not see anything happening that would make me think that a god exists or is influencing someone's life, for good or for ill. That being said, if someone tells me that there IS a god, my mind's first response is, "Ok.... Show me what I've missed, then."

If you claim something, you have to be able to prove it to be true - and not just to a singular individual; proof must be Universal and Objective, otherwise its just school-yard bully-talk of, "because I said so!"

So please, people.... I'm not here to bash people - far from it. I'm hoping someone would tell me something I haven't yet heard and has something reasonable to back it up. I have a love to discovery and an inquisitive mind. If I ask you about your beliefs, it's because I'm curious - not because I'm trying to pick a fight.

And with that being said, thank you.... you have no idea how much I like having proper debates and discussions and not feeding flame wars and trolls.

I cannot know how your troubles have hurt you.

Yes, it's LATE.. I know it.

Yeah, I know.... could be an 'emo' thing... could be nearly anything with me.

Right now, it's loneliness and loss.

We've crossed into August: birth month for Tiny Tribble on the 23rd, my friend "Doctor" Bill Estelle on the 28th (1969) .... and Fujin on the 11th (1970).

Doctor Bill was, as he put it, my Brother From Another Mother - he helped me get One The Air on his FM-Radio show, 'Doctor Bill's Mad Trivia Party' on WBNY 91.3FM (Buffalo State College, Buffalo, NY). I started as just some random caller... then Stalker With Food... then On Air Guest in Studio-B... to ultimately being Co-Host in Studio-A (and HOST during the Red Sox / Yankees World Series on Monday night). We lost him 1 year ago in September - 5 months younger than me.

And Fujin, as we full well know, was and still is the Love of my life.

Some worry about me; worried that that this is 'depression'. I don't honestly know. Sometimes I think it's just continued grief: still there, still raw, still reduces me to tears....

All I know is I miss them both. Dearly and painfully.

Tell someone that you appreciate them - just a hand shake and a 'Thank You' go a long way. And really, what are you out? 3 seconds of your day.
