The convention will be held in Bellaria-Igea Marina, near Rimini, from September 1st to the 5th. Registrations are open with an Early Bird discount and other advantages until May the 30th, while second round of registrations will open from June the 7th to August the 20th with the full fee. So get on board soon if you want to meet us, and keep an eye on the ufficial website and social network pages for all updates!

Cubs and childlike characters
Posted 8 years agoSo a painting of mine, by far the largest and most complex I've made so far, was removed from the commissioner's gallery (utunu) for TOS violation.
Now, I will admit that it is a borderline case. It is a village scene which features both some cubs present in the village and some sexual activity (between adults) going on in a hut, so while it isn't a porn picture by any stretch of the imagination it may be a violation of the TOS. Let's have a look at the actual TOS paragraph.
“Acceptable Upload Policy: Section 2.7 - Content featuring minors is prohibited when sexual activity is present. Minors cannot be in the presence of nudity, though exceptions may be made for non-sexual depictions of birth and breastfeeding. Minors are real or fictional humanoids with a childlike body or younger than 18 years old, and any adolescent animals."
Fair enough. I've already fixed the image in my own gallery ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20411066/ ) and I won't be losing sleep over this, at most I will facepalm a few more times at the glaring double standards applied by the mods. Yeah, of course I'm thinking about one of the most popular artists of this site and the totally-over-18-and-attending-college characters which regularly feature in his stuff, but not only that, as there are plenty of very young looking characters all across the site. The rule ignores the picture's context and only talks about "childlike body" and "adolescent animals", so why isn't it applied in all cases?
Of course that's a rhetorical question, I'm grown up enough to understand how popularity contests work and how smugness and acting above the rules are a huge part of the appeal of some artists. In fact I just wish the rule would be changed to take into account the picture's context. It doesn't make any sense that breastfeeding is acceptable but displays of sexuality among adults in a tribal context which also happens to feature cubs not even noticing, which is an ordinary occurrence in various real world cultures, is not. It should be obvious at a glance that some pictures featuring nudity or sexual content aren't meant for titillation, and seeing them ranked as less acceptable than cuckoldry/incest porn with characters that look like 12 year olds is kinda sad.

Furry fandom economics research survey

aurllew is working on the final thesis for his degree in Economics and he has chosen "fandom economics" as a topic, with special focus on the furry fandom. I've been looking myself for some hard data about things like spending habits on fans, income brackets of fandom artists, pricing, etc., and it seems there are no proper surveys on the topic yet, so I'm very much looking forward to it! If you can spare a few minutes, please help him by filling this short survey:

All will be done very professionally and with proper anonymization as this is an actual research project. It's a great opportunity to help research important aspects of the community which are taken too much for granted.

Dealer's Den items and prints: what do you like?
Posted 9 years agoI'm preparing to join the Eurfurence Dealer's Den for the first time in 2017 in addition to bringing paintings for the Art Show as usual. Planning what to bring and how to prepare it is more difficult than I thought but I'm very excited at the idea! I'll certainly be selling smaller/simpler originals and speed paintings, sketches, and prints, plus other stuff I'm still deciding about. I'll try to have something for every price range. At this point in time I have enough drawings and paintings to consider making an art book too but that will have to wait until next year.
Being JUST A TINY BIT obsessive I'm very undecided about which print formats I should offer. I'm thinking of having both unlimited prints in a format slightly smaller than the letter size plus limited edition 1:1 prints of some of the most popular paintings, but the variety of options is staggering, so I'm pretty curious to hear about your experiences.
What do you usually look for at the Dealer's Den?
Which kind of items are you most likely to buy?
Which types of prints do you prefer (if any)?

Posted 9 years agoI'd be very unhappy to see FA disappear as in spite of its flaws. A big chunk of personal and (most importantly) inner history of a lot of people is documented here, and it is the only real hub of the furry community, where it is possible to find a lot of old school fans and artists side to side with newer members and with some unique artists who normally wouldn't bother with a furry-only website. But if the hackers really managed to grab the site's source code, and if the code is really as bad as it's rumored to be, we can expect a non-stop sequence of attacks and downtime in the next months which will effectively make FA unusable... so I guess it's time to prepare for the worst.

selyte has entered an online singing contest connected to Italian release of Zootopia. The challenge is to sing the song from the movie "Try everything" by Shakira. She could use some more votes to try ending up in the top 5, which would win her a day in a record studio with a professional voice trainer helping further her studies as she's working to become a voice actor. If you can spare a few seconds to vote her it would be very helpful! :-D

Sketchdumps
Posted 10 years agoI'm always very shy about posting unpolished sketches on the web. I draw much more than it seems and there is stuff scattered in my sketchbooks which might be worth sharing, but I'm always worried it would detract from my main gallery since it's mostly unfinished or experimental stuff. Sometimes the pictures are incomplete, sometimes the characters are weird or just plain ugly.
It's not that I don't like them. To me playing around without caring too much for the result is the funniest part of drawing and in a way it's the founation of the more polished stuff I do. I'm just not sure whether they belong here along with my struggles towards good composition and more appealing characters.
However several friends keep insisting that I should post more of this exploratory stuff (anticarrot please put down that whip now!). It's better than letting them fade into oblivion I guess. :-D So I'll try to regularly post small batches of them in Scraps inbetween posts to the main gallery.

I actually began to use tumblr more often, it's handy for posting work in progress and I love to share bits of the painting process. I'll post sketches and technical notes too so follow if you're interested! I swear you won't be spammed. We're delighted to announce you that registration for Zampacon 15 - Fur Ro Dah! is soon to be opened.
The theme for this year, if you haven't already guessed, will be Fantasy/Medieval!
Zampacon is our (still) small but funny italian furry convention, starring artists, fursuiters, panels, games and all the fun in between! At our 4th edition, we decided to be more inclusive toward other european furries, so you should consider coming along with us! More surpises coming with the theme, too...
Registrations will be opened from Monday March the 16th till Tuesday March the 31st at 11.59 PM (UTC +1).

Commissions opening on Jan the 5th + wrist update
Posted 10 years agoI will reopen commission two days from now, on January the 5th around 6:00 pm. All the information is now in the commission info page ( http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/scale/ ) and up to date.
I'm itching to go back to business now that I can work full time on artwork and wrist pains are gone. They were actually gone one month ago, but then a horse down at the riding school decided to bite my goddamn right wrist... AND a few minutes later the horse I usually ride decided to send me flying and I landed on the same wrist. It hurt badly for a couple weeks but luckily nothing was broken or dislocated.

Posted 11 years agoBeen struck by tendinitis for over two weeks now. -_- Mostly the right hand but the left occasionally itches too. I lifted too many large boxes and stressed the hand while moving I guess, on top of programming and stuff. (But the programming part is almost over, I'm changing job for good. There's very little for software developers in Italy anyway.)
I'll better not type too much now, but tomorrow I'm seeing the physiatry doctor, I just hope this won't affect drawing too much...

Been busy, almost done
Posted 11 years agoI've been dealing with the most complicated relocation ever in the last few months. Not so difficult because of packing and preparations but rather because of bureaucracy and many things to fix and improve in the new apartment (with two conventions and a lot of personal development taking place in the same timeframe). Turns out a proper overhaul of an existing apartment is also damn expensive these days.
Anyway! It's almost done now, the final moving is scheduled for wednesday the 17th. The new home is awesome, finally I'll have a studio room with a large window giving good lightning for painting and plenty of wall space for both small and large paintings.
I still have to upload photos of some of the paintings sold at the Eurofurence as well as other backlog stuff. I'll be picking up as soon as moving is over. The Art Show went very well again, all my pieces have been sold except for the the owl one (which was too large to fit most luggage anyway, I should have thought of that). I'm alreading noting down ideas for the next year...
