While I have a great deal of experience in many ferret problems, I have not yet dealt with this one.
My ferret Yuki has what I suspect to be a mast cell tumor(?) It is an oval-shaped scab the size of my pinky fingernail on her side. I had not seen this until today, and am getting worried sick since I had never noticed it before! (I supposed it could just be a scab, in which case any specific cleaning advise would still be very helpful!)

After researching online, I'm assuming it is best to clean it and keep an eye on it for a couple days, and if it does not look significantly better, she should have a visit to the vet? Are there any cleansing methods that have worked best for you at home?
Also, so I can prepare myself, what is the general cost to have a mast tumor cell diagnosed and removed? Thank you guys so much, from Yuki and myself.

I've tried looking up the html needed to do this, but it doesn't seem to work here. I've seen plenty of other people with links on their profiles though, so I know it's possible! Halp plz?

Got royally fucked over today.
Posted 13 years agoWent to finally have my NC license plate changed to a FL plate, and it cost me $478. That was all of my saved up work money from my new job, plus the birthday and Christmas money my parents and grandparents gave me (which was supposed to go towards bills and getting a cavity taken care of.) Fml.
The woman who looked over my car and car title asked if the car was paid for in full, or if I was making payments. I told her that it had been paid off.
She then asked if title had always been in my name. I said that no, it was in my dad's name for a few years, and then when I moved to FL he transferred the title to me. She asked if that meant the car was a gift. I said something along the lines of "Well, he just signed the car over to me." And she again said, "So...it was a gift..." and wrote that down on her papers.
I was not aware until later that if something is considered a "gift", especially a car that was bought out of state, it get taxed WAY more than it would if it is not considered a gift. Fuck.
It most certainly was NOT a gift though. When the car was first purchased, I made payments to my father (who had bought the car). The title being given to me was simply protocol since I had to get the car registered in Florida.
I'm going to go into the office (it's the Tax Collector's Office, ugh fucking tax sharks) Tuesday and see if there's anything I can do to tell someone that this lady put words into my mouth, and that the car WAS NOT a freaking gift. I don't have a very hopeful outlook on the situation though :( If anyone has any advice on what type of lingo to use, or how to go about this, I'd really really appreciate it. I really need to learn more about procedures like this. :(
***On a lighter note, does anyone I know here in Central FL know of a fun New Years party or anything? If we (

Help is really appreciated if you know what the problem may be.
My Motion LE1600 tablet pc all of a sudden had a window pop up saying that the digitizer was not working. Opened Sai, and there was no pressure sensitivity. The pen also will not do its right-click function (it has a button on the side of the pen that, when held down, acts as a right-click function.
I went to wacom's site since Motion Computing uses Wacom drivers. After going to the driver download tab, I selected the tablet pc option, with Windows 7 as the operating system. There was one driver update available (from 2010) and I installed it in hopes that it would work. It didn't :(
I've tried to calibrate the digitizer (this is an option on the "Motion dashboard". A white screen pops up and you click crosshairs that pop up several times). During that procedure the screen did not respond to the pen at all. However, I am typing this journal with the onscreen keyboard and pen on the tablet, so apparently the pen and tablet still respond to each other.
Any help with this is VERY appreciated <3

Posted 13 years agoI wasn't able to find anything meaningful to get for my parents and my sister for Christmas because money is short. I could have at least searched around more, but in my lack-of-money state of mind, it just completely went over my head :C I'm always on top of getting gifts for my family, but this year it was a mix of not having money, not thinking about presents (probably because of the lack of money), and Christmas just sneaking up on me. I feel like a sucky daughter right now, and I really wish I could get them something. :c

Posted 13 years agoLater today I'm going to board an overnight train to take me home to NC for a few days so I can spend Christmas with my family :) I'll board the train again on the 27th and return to FL on the 28th (and I've got work that day woooooo lol). Got coach seating, so we'll see how much sleep I actually get, haha.
It's been forever since I've been on a train, so I hope I don't get motion-sickness :x Motion sickness leads to panic attacks in my case. Anytime I get in a situation that I can't leave (planes, for example) and/or when I get nauseous, I tend to get VERY prone to panic attacks, and I'm worried that could happen on the train. Just hoping for the best at this point!! At least I'll have my phone, unlike on a plane :)
Anyway, I should have internet while I'm at home from the 24th-27th. I will not, however, have my car so I won't be able to see any of my fuzzy friends in NC :C My parents are kind of claiming me for those 3 days anyway, which I won't object to at all because I miss them tons and they also paid for my train tickets :)

Quick question for ferret people
Posted 13 years agoI found this a little strange, so I thought I'd ask.
So, I just finished eating a few garlic chicken wings and a clementine orange, then a few croissants. I went over to my ferrets' cage to say hello, and put my fingers up to my ferret Muta (since she always likes to sniff). Upon smelling my fingers she made a weird gagging face (eyes closed, mouth opened in a retching fashion, but no sound). I took my fingers out, and put them back in. She had the same reaction 5 more times, so I stopped letting her sniff. Immediately she went back to normal.
Lol, do they hate the smell of garlic or oranges? I couldn't find anything online about it xD

They had better make Smaug amazing, as well as the spiders. I grew up with the 1980 animated Hobbit movie, which still creeps me out more than most movies (in an awesome way).
And I wish they'd make Gollum look like he did in the animated movie, but oh well, can't win em all lol.
How I remember Smaug (he's like a cat-dragon!), so I may be biased against whatever they make him look like in the new movie:

A horrible injustice to certain dog breeds may happen in NC
Posted 14 years agoCumberland County in North Carolina has proposed a policy to specifically ban certain breed of dogs in shelters. If this policy is passed, all stray breeds of dogs on the list will be put to death if they are in the shelter for over 72 hours, and any brought in by the owner(s) will be immediately "destroyed".
These breeds include: Dobermans, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Pitbulls, Mastiffs (all bully breeds), Akitas and Huskies
There is an online petition linked in the journal, as well as emails of many of the county's representatives. I think it would make a much larger impact to write an email to the people in charge of passing or dismissing this awful proposal, so if you can spare 5 minutes of your time, please help save many, many innocent animals!
It is the breeders of these dogs that must be dealt with first and foremost, not the animals that are already living. If there is a way to push this proposal towards a ban on the breeding facilities instead, it may actually be helpful!

Paypal is how I make a living. There are alternatives but lets face it, they are no where as big as paypal, and not accepting paypal pretty much means you're going to miss out on lots of sales from people who don't want to sign up for another service.
Which makes this so aggravating. I've always taken Paypal horror stories with a grain of salt, but ... there's no way to rationalize what they did here. So despite knowing that they are huge assholes I have to use their service if I want to make money on the internet.

Posted 14 years agoI know I've been gushing about taking commissions in order to get a camera for my birthday, but there's one other thing that I feel I can mention here, since we all love animals :)
My 2 fur-children (ferrets) have had their cage for almost 5 years, and it is literally starting to fall apart because of the poor craftsmanship. It's one of the Superpet cages with plastic clips holding the cage sides and top together, and all but one of the clips has broken, so the cage is now held together with locks and little metal clasps XD Needless to say, they need a new cage lol. I'm looking at a double-layer Ferret Nation cage, which have a lot more space (my carpetsharks would love that!) and is much sturdier than the cage I currently have.
I was thinking of doing a "donate what you'd like and I'll draw you something fun" thing, so that maybe I can get my babies the cage for Christmas. They've been nothing but angels, I'd love for them to live out the rest of their lives with a wonderful enclosure that they can retire to after playing around the house :)Right now I am checking to see if this cage is still available in a listing on Craigslist, in which case it would cost only $125 plus around $25 to drive an hour to the residence and an hour back (cage: http://orlando.craigslist.org/for/2665743601.html ). (It had already been sold). The lowest price I have found online is $179.99 (which changes to $169.99 every few days as they do daily discounts) plus only $6 shipping, which is not bad.

I was thinking of doing a "donate what you'd like and I'll draw you something fun" thing, so that maybe I can get my babies the cage for Christmas. They've been nothing but angels, I'd love for them to live out the rest of their lives with a wonderful enclosure that they can retire to after playing around the house :)

Posted 14 years agoI'd really like to get myself a birthday present because I've been pretty down about not even being asked for an interview with any animal-care related jobs I've applied to here in Florida, even though I am well qualified, with several years of exotic animal-care experience and a biology degree.

I'm almost done with all the sketch commissions I took on a few weeks ago. The money from that (which was originally intended for the camera) had to be put towards bills and food. If I can make $150 in commissions by Friday night, I will be able to get myself the camera for the awesome discount!

Posted 14 years agoThe camera that I wanted so badly recently (which was on Woot for one night and I missed it) is on sale this week on Amazon. I live for wildlife photography, as you may have seen from my gallery/scraps, and my old camera kicked the bucket a few months ago, soooooo yeah. Need new camera. :( And until I can afford a nice DSLR I'd like to go for a nice compact.
I have to decide if I want to put the funds in my paypal account into my checking account for my food, bills, etc (which I know is the most responsible thing to do)
or

Breaking Dawn midnight release thinger
Posted 14 years agoI'm in a very weird mood. I used to be quite obsessed with the Twilight series. Unhealthily so, actually, as I became quite depressed after reading the books a couple years ago. I know that sounds pathetic, but it actually happened to many women. A couple years back, it gave me the overwhelmingly sad feeling that there would never be an adventure for me as magical, dangerous, and romantic as the one in the books. There won't be werewolves for me to befriend, or the secret of knowing something as fantastical as vampires. I guess it made me feel like this life was just too dull to have any magic to it.
Anyway, I would always buy the midnight release tickets to these movies weeks in advance, and happily sit with the rest of the eager audience for that first viewing of the movie. It had a surreal feeling to it, to be honest. The entire theater filled with people like me, enjoying seeing every moment of their favorite story come to life. It was like there was an aura around the whole theater created by everyone's emotions as they watched the movie.
Tonight is the midnight release of Breaking Dawn: Part 1. I haven't been keeping track of the release date because I have a lot going on in the real world, and maybe subconsciously because I'm afraid to face the story again that I enjoy so much, but that has put me into a very somber state before.
This journal was originally supposed to just ask if anyone in Central FL is going to the midnight release tonight, because I'd like to go. Maybe because I'm ocd and I don't want to break the tradition of going to the midnight showing, lol? Idk.
In this case though, I'd like to hear your opinion. When a book/movie affects you so emotionally (in both wonderful and horrible ways), is it better to face those "demons" by indulging in the movie while trying your best to be strong and keep any negative effects at bay, or is it better to just avoid it? What do you think?
Either way, I still want to see it, and if anyone nearby is going, let me know!
***Sorry if this post was a bit strange. I had to take some of my anxiety medication earlier and it leads me into weird thought tangents sometimes.***
ALSO: I know some of you dislike the series, and that is perfectly understandable. However, I would appreciate it if you could refrain from leaving negative comments about how lame/stupid you think it is, since this is not what the journal is about.

Seaworld or Busch Gardens ppl HELP PLEASE
Posted 14 years agoI'm trying to apply for my dream job at The Edge of Africa at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL. The application process is completely online. I have an account on the site, which you need in order to apply to jobs. I have previously applied, so I know that it works.
Every time I try to sign in to my account to apply for this job, it says my password is invalid. There is a "request password" section at the bottom of the site page, which I filled out, and it prompted me to check my email for the password information. I have been doing this since last night, and there is nothing in my email inbox or spam folder. I don;t know what's wrong here, and I desperately need to apply TODAY.
Is anyone familiar with the Seaworld/Busch Gardens website and how to speak to someone about technical problems? Under their contact information section, it only gives numbers to HR departments at the actual parks, which is no help because you HAVE to apply online.
Please help if you can! Really need this job :C

Posted 14 years agoSooooooo I'm now offering artistic nude commissions (at my discretion, and I reserve the right to turn down a request for nudity in a commission). I will let watchers know if I am taking a break from doing these, as I'm new to it, and feel a bit awkward from time to time. I do like to broaden the spectrum of what kinds of art I can produce, and so far I find it fun to draw nude and/or suggestive things.
However, I have this nagging question that keeps re-appearing, and that is whether I should create a second account for more "mature" content? I plan on sticking to nudes, but not porn. Do you guys think this merits a separate account? I just don't want watchers to feel like they're now having to see unwanted content in their inboxes, (although I do always make a thumbnail with a warning) since the majority of my art is clean.
Also, does it seem to "tarnish" my gallery or personal characters in a way? Or not at all? Please be honest here. My characters Remy and Posha will NEVER be portrayed in any sexual manner, and it feels a little strange to have them in the same gallery as nude pieces.
That being said, posting the nude drawings to my main account does bring in more business (gotta pay rent and eat lol), and since I am not well-known I may not get many commissions if I post nudes only on another account.
