Anybody low on money but high on time wanna make some $?
General | Posted 13 years agoI need help with algebra...major help. I'm barely passing...might even be failing at this point. I'm willing to pay someone who's good at math for tutoring sessions. The amount is negotiable.
I want to pay a tutor. I do NOT want free help from friends.
1) If I'm paying you, it's a job, not a favor. We will arrange set times for tutoring to be given. If you are late or absent, minus certain special circumstances, you will be fired.
2) The amount I will pay is based on what you bring to the table. The more expertise you have, the more I'll be willing to pay.
3) Again, I stress that this is a JOB. It will not be first come first serve and no preferential treatment will be given. I will hire the person who I feel is most likely to get me through this semester. I don't want to hear any whining from those who didn't get picked.
4) Finally, if I am pleased with your tutoring abilitoes, I may use your services for Calculus and Physics further down the line.
Ready, set, go!

Random stuff
General | Posted 13 years agoA few updates for all my rabid fans. *listens to the crickets* YES! The crickets! They are my fans! Anyways...
1) New car. I'm getting one, since my old one decided to play gravity games and was punished by the iron fist of physics. I should be getting my check from insurance either today or tomorrow, and a car shortly thereafter.
2) In a couple weeks...reptiles! I'll be going to the White Plains reptile expo, which to me is like a theme park visit. Might get a new friend to replace the one lost to my mother's ineptitude. I already threatened her with partial dismemberment if she touches anything involving climate control in my room again.
3) School is out in 6 weeks. Doing well in Human Relations(for those who know me, shut up) and Microbiology. Chemistry is iffy. I'm doing well in labs, but my lecture professor (he calls himself uncle cuddles and he looks like a balding, pudgy garden gnome *shudders*) is a bit nuts and kind of hard to follow. If all goes well, I'll escape that class with a B. Then there's Algebra. Oh hated and reviled Algebra. How I despise you. The fact that my professor is a scatterbrained spaz only makes things worse. I'll be pleased with a C, since it'll only be my second C in two years of college.
4) About 2 months away from my road trip to South Carolina and back. (Again, the route is through South Carolina, North Carolina, Eastern Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, NYC, and Connecticut.) Applications to be bathed in radiant dragon awesomeness are still open. Right now, this is the list of people who've expressed interest in having me stop by for a visit.

That's about all for the updates. I'll see about some pics from the expo for all you reptile lovers.

Came inches from death last night
General | Posted 13 years agoWas taking
ablackflamey home last night. It was snowing. Hit a bump with my car and spun out while on a bridge over the Connecticut River. Nearly went into said river and died a horrible death. Thankfully a curb stopped us and all that happened was the car flipped on its side. No injuries. Ahh, the power of seatbelts.

General | Posted 13 years agoThe wheels of time keep on turning and running my poor dragon ass over. 5 days from now, I'll be a quarter of a century old. In celebration of the event, I'll be having a massive party at the local civic center. Everyone is invited, and airplane tickets and sick notes will be provided for all who wish to attend...
...and then I woke up. Anyways. Gonna have dinner with family tonight and then, on my actual birthday, do the closest thing to a "party" that I've had in years. Log into skype and stay online for the whole day, or as much of the day as I can manage. If I can't meet and mingle irl, might as well do so online. Feel free to pop in and say hello.

General | Posted 13 years agoAs my previous journal stated, I'm in a bit of a pickle over getting into medical school. My biggest fear is my GPA, which is going to be ravaged by all the math-heavy classes. My solution: enroll in a minor study to give me a GPA buffer. With that thought, I figured that a foreign language would be most useful, since there's never a situation where knowing another language is bad. Looking over the options, I narrowed it down to 3 choices:
1: French
2: Italian
3: Japanese
Please vote and tell me which you think I should take.

One angry dragon
General | Posted 13 years agoJust spoke to some representatives from UMass. Apparently I'm going to have to retake all of my lab science classes in addition to all the new classes I have to take for my bachelor's degree. End result: I'm going to need 12-14 lab classes plus calculus, advanced statistics, and 2 independent research classes (probably labs too). This is literally impossible to do in 2 years. That would be an absolute minimum of 3 lab classes each semester, probably more. So that means I'll need another fucking year as an undergrad just to get my classes done. They seem to find a new way to stick it to me every year.
Anyone on the East Coast who wants to meet me in person?
General | Posted 13 years agoIn the beginning of June, my cousin in South Carolina is graduating high school. Before I get plane tickets, I want to see if there's any interest among my friends in meeting me or hanging out for a day or two. If people like that idea, I'll drive to South Carolina and take an extra week visiting friends on the way back up.
Requirements:
~Be roughly along my route (South Carolina, North Carolina, Eastern Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Eastern Pennsylvania, NYC, Connecticut.) [I may be able to hop down to parts of Eastern Georgia as well]
~Be available roughly the second week of June.
~Have a home capable of handling a large feral dragon inside.
Note me or reply to this journal if you're interested. I need to know within about a month if there is interest. Solid commitments would be nice, but I know better than to expect that so far in advance.

Fastest income tax burn EVAR
General | Posted 13 years agoJust completely spent every dime of my income taxes plus some of my last paycheck. Well worth it though. Paid off 2 of my 3 credit cards and paid half of the third. Canceled the two I paid off, so I won't be tempted to bury myself again. Cost me 2 grand, but the relief I'm feeling is worth every penny of it.
R.I.P. Uncle Paulie
General | Posted 13 years agoMy great uncle just lost his fight with a severe lung infection. I am working at the hospital, so I was able to go down and say my farewells. We will all miss him

Spring Semester first impressions
General | Posted 13 years agoJust completed my first week of spring semester. Here are my thoughts on the professors and outlook for the rest of the term.
1. Microbiology (lecture and lab) - class is fun and dangerous, my favorite combination. First day in lab, we looked at live Staphylococcus aureus under the microscope. Having suffered through Staph infections before, I was pretty nervous, but it was actually interesting. Professor looks a bit like Frankenstein and has no sense of humor to speak of, but over all, not too bad.
2. Chemistry (lecture)-This professor is 2 parts hilarious, 1 part creepy. He's an old, bald man who calls himself "Uncle Cuddles" which is mildly disturbing. On the plus side, his jokes tend to have the class rolling and make it easy to pay attention in lecture. In my opinion, this more than outweighs his creep factor.
3. Chemistry (lab)- Lab professor is no-nonsense and to the point, but she knows her stuff and is fair with how she handles assignments. Aside from that, unremarkable.
4. Human Relations: Diversity and Ethics Issues- Aside from having WAY too long a name, the course is pretty interesting. It's mainly focused on criminal justice, and literally every single person in the class is majoring in some form of law or criminal justice. Being from the medical field, I give the class a unique perspective on ethics and spark a lot of debates. It's kind of like starting a political debate in an MMO. Make a few comments, then watch the fun.
5. Algebra- This professor, who I've taken to calling Professaurus Rex, is a demented combination of mean and scatterbrained. This is good, because she's easy to confuse. Just the other day, I managed to get her to try to find the slope of a vertical line, which as all should know, involves dividing by 0. We all laughed at her expense. My outlook for this class is bleak, as I already feel my will to live being sapped after listening to the tedium.
All in all, I think I'm going to do okay for this semester, and once I finish this round of classes, I'll officially be a biologist. Go me lol.

School's out
General | Posted 13 years agoUntil January 28th at least. My current estimates of my grades are 3 A's and a B. One A is confirmed already. Also, I had a transfer counseling meeting today and I've been guaranteed a spot at any public university in the state. Now I need to start worrying about housing and crap lol
To all my watchers who play xbox...
General | Posted 13 years ago...all 3 of you. I've been thinking of getting Black Ops 2 for myself, to break out of the MMO rut I've been stuck in for years.
I don't really have much experience with shooters of any description, but I've been finding the typical MMO grind a bit boring lately.
Anyways, my question is this: Should I get it? Please answer objectively. Don't say yes just because you want me to play it. Trust me, if I get it and don't like it, I won't play it anyways. Answer based on whether you think I'd enjoy it

Flu and bank screwup
General | Posted 13 years agoWell first off I got the flu. I feel like shit and I'm grouchy and miserable. I'll probably be in bed most of the day except for this afternoon when I get to have more dental work...yippee. Secondly, apparently, due to some fuckup on the part of my bank, the admission charge for FurFright just came out yesterday, leaving me wit $33 to stretch out over 8 days. Thanks Bank of America, may a pox infest your upper management.

Let's hope I can keep the momentum going. This is around the time in the semester where the combination of work and school starts causing burnout. Already, the little voice in the back of my head that encourages me to call out of work/skip school is getting louder and more active.

You know your college has shitty parking if...
General | Posted 13 years ago-people car-stalk you from the exit to your car
-you can't see the college from the lots that are furthest away
-people park on sidewalks, tree belts, and the tennis court
-you have a group of campus police dedicated to directing traffic in the parking lots
-two cars will keep you boxed in for 15 minutes while they have a contest of wills over who will get your spot when you leave
-the college made decals have no expiration simply to make the logistics possible

Bad News
General | Posted 13 years agoJust found out my grandfather has cancer in the nerves of his face. We don't know what kind or how advanced it is yet, but he's been having symptoms from it for over a year, so there's no telling how far it's spread. The fact that he's been to no less than 3 doctors before the most recent one and gotten diagnoses as far afield as shingles, Bell's Palsy, and neuralgia, none of which match his symptoms, makes it even worse.
My luck strikes again
General | Posted 13 years agoMy car was broken into. And when I say broken, I mean they busted out 2 windows. The rear window was unnecessary too, since they could have just unlocked the fucking rear door after breaking in the driver's side window...but then again, I wouldn't think someone with the IQ of a brine shrimp could figure that out. It's times like this that I wonder if the medical profession is right for me, because my mind is flooded with all the horrible ways I want the thief to die. I say "thief" because he/she/it stole my GPS. Also, the asshole decided to break in while it was raining, so I have water damage. My insurance is covering the repairs, but not the GPS. I think this is just life's way of reminding me that it still fucking hates me.
GW2 info
General | Posted 13 years agoCurrently playing on the Maguuma server. My main is a Charr elementalist named, ever so cleverly, Albeon.
So...Guild Wars 2. Anybody else plan on getting it?
General | Posted 13 years agoMy paycheck comes out 48 hours before the preorder period is over. Since I haven't treated myself to....anything in the past few months, I figure this would make a good gift to myself. Don't get me wrong, I love EVE, but I need a game where the PvP can be a bit more spontaneous. Since I refuse downright to purchase the pants-on-head retardedness of Mists of Pandaria, that leaves on GW2, or TOR. I'm going with GW2. Hope to see some other furs there. Maybe start a guild or something.
Update
General | Posted 13 years agoBeen working full time the past couple weeks. Medical assisting is tiring, but it's pretty nice to use my skills for once. Unlike at Comcast, people are actually very grateful for my help in the hospital. Looking forward to some actual social time this weekend. If things keep up the way they've been going, I may not need to worry about money for a while. In other news, only a few weeks before I go back to college. Between college and work, I'll be busy like...90% of the time and sleeping the rest. It's worth the effort though. Anyone who wants to be able to get ahold of me (I know I've been online like not at all) send me a note and I'll give you my phone # so you can text me.
Feeling a bit better
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm feeling a little bit better after what happened a few days ago. I still have issues with it, but I think I'm ready to start talking to people again...slowly.
A fond farewell to a beloved friend
General | Posted 13 years agoTwo hours ago, Frisky, my cat and closest friend for 6 years, died in my arms from a stroke. He seemed just fine, but then he spasm and seemed unable to draw breath. I did everything I could to try to save him, even going so far as giving him mouth-to-mouth, but my friend slipped away. I held him in my arms as the life left his body. I am, understandably, extremely upset. I will probably not be responding to any messages for several days at least. Please leave me to my grief for now. I'll post a journal when I'm ready to talk again
