Hashtags are parsed as tags and implemented as such in picture view (which looks closer to an art site than social media), which is good for indexing reasons, but since folders on Packbase are tag-based you can create and backfill them from just the Bluesky posts (and of course, brand new posts)

Well, if you've been online at all lately, you know how the vibes are going.
Paypros are tightening what adults can purchase with their own money, platforms have to bend the knee because it's difficult to send money peer to peer
Normie social media makes broad rules to ban furry kinks
Discord wants to add age verification
Telegram is taking down furry channels and accounts

That is all to say, we NEED furry-owned infrastructures

We already have plenty of gallery sites (I should make a post about the pros and cons), so that problem is solved at least, famously Furaffinity became popular because it happened to launch right as Sheezy banned ALL furry art in 2005, and if FA is too primitive or restrictive for files, there are Sofurry and Itaku.

So, what we need are social media and chatting (Ideally a PayPro, but that sounds like a massive legal mess)

While the situation isn't ideal, thanks to my pissing and moaning about diversification, I actually know of happenings to make the situation better!
And not only that, but one is already there:

https://packbase.app/ is a social media owned by furs, and run by furs, based around packs (essentially groups, each person gets one when you make a profile, but you can make more), and each pack can be divided into channels to further constrain topics, there is a tagging system, and a single howl can have videos and images and they don't get compressed, there is support for custom CSS, reposts, a long character limit and more to come!
If you want some fresh air, I think Packbase will be good to get on, but remember that it's in public alpha

Chats are where it gets complicated, if anything, because what you want from a chat will vary a lot. The ones we use (Discord and Telegram) are on opposite ends of their main features, and some people want things that neither provides.
I'm not aware of a furry chat program that is currently out, but I happen to know a guy who's working on one, focusing on security and anonymity first, so maybe watch this space if you are interested :3

I think that's it for now, some steps are being made towards cutting ourselves off from normies and prudes that don't "get us", of course, more would be welcomed, but we gotta roll with what we have for now, and hope for a better future

Ensure that you are using 3.1.69, as it fixed a bug with underscores in tags needing to become spaces

The Sofurry rewrite adds multifile uploads for everything (pics, videos, stories, music), a 500mb upload limit (5 times more than e621), and a feed

So, if you have been keeping an eye on my shenanigans, you've definitely noticed that I've been diversifying and promoting more alternative galleries compared to FA or Bluesky.
Not saying this as a FA/Bluesky hater, I think they are fine and full of people and I will gladly use them, but a lot of people like to complain about both for fairly objective reasons (Fa has a low upload limit, bluesky is VERY messy to find art in and is social media), so I want to make it a point to show people there are greener pastures, and I want to help them out find a site they might enjoy more, and convince them it's worth it to stick to it.
This is not exactly this post, but I want to give y'all a tease of nicer places to be in.

It's been down for maintenance for a few months, but I strongly believe they have the biggest site update in furry fandom history, and the unique features like browser game support, 3d model upload, and multi-content submissions are gonna be huge sellers.

Another site with a lot of potential is https://yummy.moe/ which is a vore-only (for the most part) website intended to be eka's but newer, and it's been getting a lot of steady updates (an upcoming update will add video support and an improved GUI).

Another one is https://packbase.app/ , an alpha site soon to be a mix of a social media site and a gallery, with an option for FA imports coming too, and currently supports videos and up to 20 images in a single post.

I've also been a known Itaku lover due to the superb tagging system and the video support, the only negative is no writing and music support yet.

Those are the main ones, but I'm also on Weasyl (kinda dead), Furrynetwork (actually dead), inkbunny (looks ugly, barely usable on my phone, needs a massive blacklist to be even usable), and while I'll keep posting because Postybirb those are kinda gallery backups I don't check much.
I'll see what I can do to get people to post on The Good Places, and I might do stuff like posting art first on Sofurry/Packbase/Yummy/Itaku and then everything else to encourage followers to use nicer sites, I'll have to see.

I need to write a long post about how Postybirb, as great a tool as it is for smaller sites, unfortunately waters them down.

Just as a tease, Sofurry
It's a VERY long-running site and has had a lot of unique features (groups, a site chat, forums, friends), but it's getting gutted in the new site.
Why? Well, Sofurry has a reputation for being good for writers, and quite a few popular artists post there, but while postybirb lets you do it, it doesn't support the unique features (groups are cool, people can make them and assign art to it, so you had species/kinks groups), so no one used them.

This meant that while the artists were uploading art and letting people see it, the site lay dormant, and the account was probably made during an FA outage, logged in postybirb, and never touched again in an active manner, much to the chagrin of people who use Sofurry as a primary site.

So when the beta started, pretty much all those features were scrapped from the start, because why add extra things that require man-hours to deal with, when you, as an admin, can see no one had been using them?
I'd argue that if Postybirb had supported groups, they would have been used more.

I'll kinda miss groups (and shouts, but if enough people complain, they might come back), I don't blame Terra/Toumal for removing them.
I DO hope that community tagging returns, as it lets people actually use the site to fix the lazy tagging that can fly in places like FA, and for better tag blocking

I wouldn't blame you if you didn't, but it's a pretty nice site, think FA but Yak actually kept adding new features and changed up the UI a bit after 2019 or something.
Jokes aside, collections! What are they?

Essentially, if you see a drawing on Weasyl, you'll also see a "request this submission" button. If you press it, the poster gets a notification about you having asked, and if he agrees, it gets added to a "collection" tab, and it's like you uploaded it yourself, down to getting notifications if furs interact (you can disable that).
Why is this such a good feature, you might ask? Well, I think we all know at least one person with an FA account that regularly posts art on social media, but doesn't want to bother with uploading things on FA, so they use their faves tab as a gallery to redirect people to the artists.

Well, collections are essentially that, but you also get notifications and people can browse, but it also lets you use your FA faves properly, and they don't have to upload, make up a description, and tag stuff, you could just press a button, wait for the artist/friend/YCH stranger to upload it and then press a button, and now it's in your gallery!
I think it's a killer feature and more sites should have something like it for lazy people, or hell, even people who DO upload on their profiles but would want to give more exposure to artists

Well, with the last two pics, I'm considering the art dump done.
I did skip some stuff but it's not stuff I find so hot that I MUST share it right now, but it doesn't mean I won't do it later on here and other sites (Some stuff is FA only, some is on FA and e621, some in the prior two places and Sofurry), so there will be more dumps, just slower when I don't have anything new to share really.

Honestly, other than the GIF bug (thanks to the developer explaining why it happens, and good luck with the fix!), I was told a potential workaround for it that I would try later. I like this place! It still suffers a bit in not being as active as FA (Like Sofurry and Itaku LOL), but I quite enjoy the UI, especially the big thumbnails, and I'm curious to see how uploading a PDF is, I already saw how they are implemented.

If I could say a thing I would LOVE to see implemented is a mass uploader, Itaku has one and it's handy to drop a dozen files and being able to tag them universally, and then add titles, description, and specific tags individually (The Sofurry one doesn't let you mass tag things, which is a bit slower but still manageable).
Also, video support, but I was told short video support is planned, but I'd love to see just, straight up video support, regardless of length.

It's gonna be a fun time here, hopefully the next upload will be the story I'm working on (there is a comic and an AV pic coming too though lol), so see ya soon!

As all of you noticed, I've been uploading my backlog! I'm sorry for your notifications. Retaliate with faves if needed.

Jokes aside, I have been liking this place, the UI feels like "FA but more polished," and the 50mb upload limit is GREAT as I do have quite a few pictures that are above the 10mb limit that FA and Itaku use, unfortunately.

The only two problems I found?
First off, trying to upload a GIF leads to a 502 error, which is a shame, as I would have posted them otherwise.
The second and main one is that, you see all the 52 submissions? I uploaded them manually, one by one! This is hell! I'm lucky that they are all on e621 and I can nab my tags and descriptions, but if they weren't, I would NOT have bothered at all

It's a shame! The uploader is quite smooth, it's just that after 52 uploads one by one, it gets slow compared to dropping a few files like I can on Itaku and Sofurry.


Honestly, when my only criticism is that I wish I could upload faster, it means they did a great job here!
