New Page up and other things
Posted 3 years agoWell, I'm surprisingly ahead of schedule! The comic is coming along great and I'm already two pages ahead of where I thought I'd be. I managed to streamline the process by using the select tool on PaintTool SAI that allows me to color multiple characters at once. Some the backgrounds are simple enough that I'm able to jump ahead and allow me more room to add some atmosphere to the next installment next Friday. Thanks for following the comic! I'm going to keep the friday schedule for the forseeable future and hopefully have a fun comic finished with a crazy story cooked up by yours truly.
Also this had allowed my creativity to really shine lately. I'm experimenting with new techniques and a new painting style. Anyway I'll keep working to keep you all updated on what I'm doing. Anyway have fun with the new installment :D.

Post Op Update
Posted 3 years agoHey all, I'm checking back in.
The surgery crept up on me quick and I barely had a moment to do anything. I was also swelling up! I looked like I was ready to birth a bluewhale from how swollen my liver had gotten and I was in a brutal amount of pain right up until the surgery. By 6 am the next morning I was on my way to the hospital and was ready to roll in less than 20 minutes. All I remember was how chilly it was in the operating room and boom boom, out when the lights.
Next thing, its 10:30 in the morning, and I'm waking up doing Frankenstein arms and I think was singing ZZ Top at the same time. I was in a world of pain, my stomach felt like I'd eaten a truck and my throat was on fire from having a breathing tube crammed in. Nevertheless, I was determined to get back to it. The past four days since have been hard on me. I could barely get up by myself, I couldn't eat for almost three days because everything was making me sick, and the gas pain from when they blew me up like a balloon was horrific. I barely got into my studio just recently as getting down the step was the biggest hurdle at the time. My mom is proud of me for taking the bull by the horns and pushing myself to walk and move again. It's been a slow and incredibly painful process, but it's getting there.
I can get up from my chair now with little pain and my body is actually starting to look normal again! In fact I've gone down a pants size since the surgery after all the swelling went away. I still have stitches and it hurts like a son of a gun if I go to fast, but I'm a trooper. Rest assured I'm already working on getting some creative stuff out of the way at the moment. I should know more wednesday afternoon when I see the surgeon again if i'll be able to work and what restrictions I'll have. Sorry for the delays, I had to stop and take care of business. I should be able to work on the comic as I get better.
Anyway, I got to go rest. I was walking around a lot today and I'm just exhausted.

Delays
Posted 3 years agoHi all, I'm pretty upset as of late. I missed my Halloween deadline to start posting my comic because of issues with my doctors. As of three weeks ago, I should have been in surgery. But the radiologist and cardiologist took their darn sweet time getting my test results to the surgeon. Now I'm in pain and feeling nauseous. I got a hard spot on my stomach and occasionally get some dull pain, though it's getting a bit worse. Finally, it took my doctor and me making some harsh phone calls to get their butts in action. Tonight was tough as I'm still working and I got very dizzy, very nauseated at the same time. I was down by the end of the night. Finally, we got a date and I'm getting carved up like turkey next week. I'm both relieved and nervous because it's major surgery.
My boss is having a heifer and a half as well be down another maintenance worker, but I have to have it done. I'll likely be down for about two weeks, so I'm trying to get ahead on things. Anyway, hope all goes well.
Paws crossed.

Test Comic Up
Posted 3 years agoI posted a quick test comic ahead of my main one. Check it out and see. :D
Update: health related
Posted 3 years agoOh boy, I've become a human pin cushion this last month. Whether its blood work or taking an injection to aid my weight loss, or even getting up to speed on my inoculations, I've been stuck all over. Had shots in both arms even and now I'm looking at going under the knife so to speak. It's come to my attention that I have gallstones and that I require surgery to remove them. On top of that, they aren't sure if one wandered away into the duct, so I'm having X-Rays coming up. From what I understand, I'll be down for about two weeks, which kind of puts a damper on some of my plans for spoopy season.
I had planned on releasing the comic page by page by Halloween, now it looks like I might have to push it up sooner. Also I had big plans for Halloween which might have to go through earlier than planned. I'm not sure how I'm going to be after the surgery, its the first major surgery I've had in a while. I'm scared to say the least. I also broke my glasses which have me using an old pair until after the surgery and fighting off an inner ear infection as well.
Man this year has been a serious kick in the teeth. I lost my stepdad this year, been sexually harassed by a coworker (it's been resolved, thankfully), and we had to deal with equipment being stolen from my job, making it harder on me to do it. Then my brush with diabetes led my down a serious rabbit hole. I'm in the flipping Twilight Zone, somebody wake me up, please!

Update:
Posted 3 years agoFirst off wishing my bud of almost a decade
ardrich_keybus a happy birthday today. Got something cooking for him soon enough.
Been busy working on things as I prepare my first comic for release in October. I think I'll do a page every friday since those are my days off. Still rearranging things at the moment. It's been a long time coming and it's been a process for me. I had a bit of a rough end to August, it's been 3 years since living through that tragedy. I think it will get easier for me though I might seek some help with working through some of the other stuff from that day.
Ok folks, ending this positively though I'm on track to making things awesome again. Stay tuned!

Update: Big things Happening
Posted 3 years agoSo I've been elbows deep in fixing up my studio space lately, I paused on my comic a moment as my workspace has been an utter disaster lately. That's why I'm mostly posting new work for the moment as I'm still rearranging things to make use of the space I have currently. I'm in the final stages of finishing up and all that's left is organizing and making an inventory before I start investing in some much-needed tools.
As for my comic I'm planning on an October release in time for Spooky Season. Aside from my usual digital stuff, I'm setting up a painting spot in my studio so I can finally work on my stockpile of empty canvas'. I got plenty of acrylics lying around and some awesome ideas floating upstairs in the old noodle, including experimenting with dark light painting. I got a stock of fluorescent paint I'm dying to get into! I also wanted to try glow-in-the-dark paint as well, I thought would be fun. I even got black canvas to paint the dark light/glow paintings on!
I'll announce other stuff as it becomes available. For now, I'm catching up on things and will be posting new work as soon as it's ready to roll. Thanks for your patience!

Updates 6/19
Posted 3 years agoOk it's been a long week.
I'm officially on vacation from work and some life stuff at the moment. My uncle had his appendix rupture and we had to go back home for a few days, thankfully he is up and moving around after they drained a gallon of infection from his gut. They are monitoring him to make sure there was no adverse effects as he didn't realize it happened.
The comic is in the final stretch at just over 100 pages, I've been working on it on and off, now I'm in the home stretch.
My B-Day is on this coming Tuesday. I've been stumped on what to create to celebrate my 37th year around the sun, but I do plan on heading over to Stonehenge to watch the sun come up on the solstice, equinox thingy. It's been on my bucket list for a bit and with all that's happening getting to the real Stonehenge is a problematic. But no worries, my local university built a 1:1 replica of Stonehenge down to the arrangement and placement. It's pretty accurate from what I heard, and I'll be there to see the sunrise. Hopefully if COVID kicks the bucket and I can finally go to the real one and party with everyone until sunrise!
Health wise I'm back to being pre-diabetic as my A1C is down slightly. Hoping to lose more weight and finally get off my CPAP machine. I'll find out more in 3 months. :D Here's to hoping for the best! Also on new medication, hoping the insurance will kick in and help me because ouch it's expensive.
Other than that, I'm going to be getting A/C for my studio space finally! We have guy coming to open a vent into the garage so I can finally stop dying from this godawful heat and stop freezing in winter.
That's about it for now. Thanks for watching :D

Update: Hanging on
Posted 3 years agoI'm pretty sure the news is out by now that another shooting took place in my home state of Texas, this time near the border at the town of Uvalde. 19 kids and 2 teachers were lost in the senseless tragedy that befell them this week. Worse, my cousin's nieces were locked down in class after a couple make threatening comments to the local school. The hard part is one of the victims was named and even looks like my cousin's daughter. I'm at a loss for words. I'm having some PTSD moments as well. It's like I'm back in August nearly three years ago. The thing is that help was just around the corner for them, whereas for us it was 3 hours before the SWAT could reach us and evacuate us safely. Until then we were on our own fending for ourselves.
My heart goes out the families and the survivors of this tragedy. Furthermore, I was seeing someone stood up to the governor and called out their inaction on this mess. I'm not sure how to feel at this moment. It's taking a bit to process. It's been a wild week of bad weather as well, we had a couple of close calls with tornadoes recently. We got slammed Tuesday night with heavy rain and grapefruit sized hail, we lost most of the trashcan lids as they blew off in the storm. A local restaurant lost it's sign after being toppled by nearly 80 mph winds. The Morton, Tx tornado which looked like the F5 from the movie TWISTER was about 2 hours north of us, measured nearly a mile wide and rated about EF-2. Thankfully no one was hurt or killed as it was moving through open country for roughly 3 miles. I don't doubt if it had hit something the damage would've liked been higher.
Anyway, I'm hanging on the best I can. Again my heart goes out to the people of Uvalde, Tx.

Crazy Weather
Posted 3 years agoDang dude I was 'bout to fly away to Oz this afternoon. The wind picked up so hard that my golfcart was rocking in the gale and I was hanging on for dear life while getting sandblasted by this afternoon's wild weather. On top of that there was a brief tornado in the county north of us and a wildfire set off by lightning. I just saw about Andover, Kansas. Man that twister was a beast! There was some drone footage shot of the tornado coming into town and one moment you can see a whole freaking house fly through the air almost a thousand feet off the ground. It looked like a missile being launched out of the tornado! I haven't seen a tornado that violent since the F5 that hit Andover back in 90's, when it passed through the airforce base parking lot and just missing a billion dollar line of bombers. That was some crazy video!
It was crazy footage at one point you can also see multiple funnels dancing around each other while hurling roofs and buildings like toys. Looks like tornado season is officially begun, with the peak months of May and June around the corner. Watch for flying cows and stay safe out there!

Back in the saddle
Posted 3 years agoHey all I'm getting things moving here. I got my first ever comic in the works, I'm about 60 odd pages in, but hope to start posting it soon as I get it colored and fixed up nicely. I'm in the process of revamping my workspace to include a display cabinet for my other stuff which I hope to get done soon.
Got lots of stuff I want to make soon, keep you guys posted. Thanks for everyone for reaching out to me recently. It was a sudden and tough thing to face losing my stepdad, but I feel he's still with us in some way. I'm just picking up the pieces and trying to make the best of things now.
Hope to be back with more zaniness and of course, cow <3

Posted 3 years agoI've been in hiding a bit the last few weeks, mostly I'm still grieving the loss of my stepdad to COVID. He was more of a father to me than my real dad was, so losing him hit me harder. I had planned to go visit him at the hospital, but my crazy work schedule has had us running in circles. I heard he was on a ventilator and not expected to survive the weekend, to my shock my brother called me just after he coded. I had to fight for an extra day off because our boss is too busy with his new son and the CEO was on their way down the following week. So three days went by and it felt like it wasn't even enough to really process or grieve his loss.
I feel it though, I'm more tired than normal. My nephew took it hardest because he was the closest thing to a grandpa he had. Mostly his family is feeling guilty about not being there for him like we were. Lots of family drama still ongoing right now as they fight over what to keep in his memory. Honestly, I do miss him and I wished we had more time to just let it sink in before work started beating our door down.
I do have moments when it hits me, otherwise its quite surreal to know he's gone. Everything up until now has been a blur. Even though I didn't get to visit him due to restrictions on that part of the hospital, I honored him by wearing his favorite football team Dallas Cowboy star. It was such a cold day and it was trying to snow at the same time we carried him to the final resting place. I'm a bit tired. Mostly I'm ready to take some time off and rest. Hopefully I can get some time off soon, I really need it right now.

2022: New Year
Posted 3 years agoI hope your new year is an awesome one. I'm working on getting healthy and it's not just a passing resolution. I have been focused on getting better since the start of December when they diagnosed me with diabetes as well as other health issues. It was pretty huge and I had been on a decline since October of last year. Nevertheless, I'm changing for the better and I haven't had much time to start new projects. I have some new stuff in the works, partly I'm working to clear out my studio as we are running a A/C duct and dropping in some new outlets pretty soon. So I'll finally have power where I need it :D. So far I'm starting the New Year off right.
I hope you all are too. It was a scary time, but I'm getting there. Hopefully I can get past this mess so I can get back to doing what I love. :D.

update
Posted 4 years agoIt's been a tough month all around for everyone. We got some tough news and we're hoping for the best, we are holding together the best we can as a family.
We had some family issues as well, so it's likely the holidays are going to be a bit rough for everyone. I'll report back with better news is my hope for now. Anyway keep us in your thoughts, we need some good vibes right now so bad.

Weird schedule Ahead
Posted 4 years agoSo I'm working like a dog the past month or so, especially now more than ever. I've been hearing rumors that Amazon is opening a warehouse out here and some kind of futuristic plant that turns natural gas into gasoline is moving into the area. I'm bushed to say the least. We've been seeing a steady growth here lately and I'm trying to keep my head above water. I've fallen behind on things again and unfortunately I'm dropping many things to make way for new changes.
So I might be on and off, just bear with me while I workout where the heck this rollercoaster is going. I have a few days off ahead, so I'm ready for that.

Well, shoot
Posted 4 years agoI hit a major fumble the other day with my molds. It was a trifecta of errors that that lead to my molds getting destroyed in the process. One was getting the right skin tone for the silicone took to long. Next the afternoon was getting warm by the hour and it sped up the chemical reaction, making an entire cup of rubber into a thick block of rubber within minutes. Of the few spoonfuls I got into the molds, they bonded to the mold as I forgot to double check if I had properly released them and I didn't.
I was devastated. I've been working on this project for well over a month and nearly $300 in on supplies (silicone is expensive!), now this happened. >.<
Back to square one on this project. But with a little knowledge under my belt I'll be back in the saddle soon enough. Be back with more updates soon.

Still Alive
Posted 4 years agoHey all, I'm just checking in for the moment. I've been hard at work making trauma plates to cast wound appliances out of silicone for the last week or so. Unfortunately, I had an accident at work that lead to my ring and middle finger on my left hand getting crushed by a huge block of falling ice. Darn those ice machines! *shakes fist*
I was down for about 3 days because I need both hands to sculpt and get the general shapes of the injuries I've been commissioned to make. Both fingers were pretty swollen, thankfully nothing broken. I couldn't bend them much until recently, so far so good. I should be back in action soon enough, for now I have to make an emergency order for some materials to finish the commission. I'll be back soon!

Busy Month
Posted 4 years agoPulled a muscle at work moving some heavy stuff, not that it helps that people leave random stuff like dead car batteries and a liquor stores worth of empty bottles in the trash cans either. I can't complain though, I'm making great money for the first time in forever and have a full time job. The downside is working outside kills my energy and by the end of the night I'm sleeping in my desk chair. So it's been almost three months now that I've been at my new job and things have been smooth for a bit. I'm working on getting the details ironed out on my personal life and trying to get focused on getting things moving.
I hope you all are good, I'm hanging on through a roller coaster of drama. It was only a matter of time before I got sucked into the workplace shenanigans, but believe me I'm busting my butt every second of the day I'm there. I'm not losing out money I need right now to push a major project to a new milestone.
Also got my first commission to do some Special FX work for EMT teacher, I'm going to be busy sculpting up some gnarly wound appliances to make their disaster sims more realistic. It's going to be fun working on movie stuff again, even if it's for disaster sims. I think in a way it will help with the coming month of August and some of the work I'm doing reflects an incident I lived through, which might be cathartic for me. Better yet I'm going to get more experience with running silicone, which is something I'm needing more time to work with as far as FX materials go.
So that's been my month so far. Be back with some more art soon, I have to make some time to sketch and noodle out ideas.

Excited
Posted 4 years agoDude! Blacksad is coming back with a new novel sometime in October and I can't wait! I'm excited to see more and read a new adventure.
In other news, I'm recouping from working a lot in the sun at my new job. We aren't in the hottest months here in Texas and I'm pretty beat. But I'll be back to it soon enough.

New Job Soon
Posted 4 years agoSo I'm moving up in the world and moving onto a new job that's paying more. The old one was running me ragged and I've just about had it with the managers antics. I don't quit jobs, I quit people. Unfortunately I'm the last of the good ones and I punched out for the last time as 3pm today. Mentally I was checked out for a long time, now I'm physically out.
I start saturday a new job and a new life. I'm working on a diet thing right now where I'm trying to lose about 62 lbs as I'm at my heaviest right now. Hopefully I can get there in the next 6 months. So far so good. I'm steadily moving on it. Moving on, not much else is happening as I'm working on getting things moving in a new direction.
Hope you all are well :D
