Posted 3 years agoComic Updates and Art Schedule
Posted 3 years agoHey gang!
Some exciting news for any watchers who remember me and my older work. There's more in the pipe! I've been posting primarily between Twitter and the SFHQ Discord, and with recent trends, I've decided to set up shop here on a more consistent basis.
I aim two have at least two new sketches a week, with art streams every Sunday afternoon!
Max Impact #2 is FINALLY seeing the light of day! With a new drawing tablet, a more reasonable schedule, and less things eating my time, I should be posting more regularly.

Posted 3 years agoThere's no other way to describe what's happening on Twitter as anything other than a miasma of high-concept low-function chaos. With the upcoming changes to the platform, fuck it.
I'm prioritizing FA over all other mediums. Expect to see a lot more of me here.

Updates
Posted 5 years agoWelp.
Here I amdoing everything I can HOLDING ON TO WHAT I AM PRETENDING I'M A SUPERMAN rounding the corner of 2020 and facing a new year.
Just completed painting my Space Marines army, I had to blitz through about 1000 points worth of models in three weeks. It took a lot out of me. Work schedule is also getting absolutely slammed and we're short staffed thanks to the Governmental Incompetence Virus™. Put simply, I've lost the spark for art and it's taking a while for me to get it back.
But I am getting it back.
Coming back to basics yet again, re-evaluating my current projects, trying to manage my expectations and finding excuses to draw something, anything, to give you all something to rest your eyeballs on with my name on it.
I'd like to thank all my watchers and the wonderful people of SFHQ who put up with my nonsense even when I turn into a lazy sack of depression. You're all important to me and it's one of the reasons I keep trying this crazy art thing. I'm sorry I can't post as much as I'd like, but I know that past the veil of my own self doubt you all are just happy to see anything I make, and I've gotta keep that in focus.
You'll see me post at least a doodle every other day. Now that school is no longer a thing and my fourth (!!!!!!!!!) Warhammer army is done and dusted, art can bust through the door, kick over my coffee table, and demand access to my fridge like the crazy drunk uncle I know it can be.
Or something.

Glacier AMA
Posted 5 years agoTrends are fun, especially when people demand them.
Imagine, if you will, the most prominent Sentinel Initiate plucked from the frontlines and stood up in front of a crowd of eager reporters, desperate bloggers, and tabloid bottomfeeders. If you've ever wanted to toss Johnathan Ash a question, now's your chance. Here's a rare opportunity to ask Glacier anything, from his career in the UNSI to all the insipid bits of trivia you want to squeeze from him before his thousand yard stare kicks in and he retreats to the safety of the situation room yet again.
Nothing blatantly inappropriate. Try to keep it at about 5-6 questions.

Posted 6 years agoHey all.
Just graduated college. What does that mean? It means I'm taking a goddamn vacation and putting my focus mostly into my job and my hobbies. That includes art. I've begun work in earnest on getting stalled projects back on line, and will be much more available for art related stuff in the future!

The SFHQ October Evil Jam!
Posted 7 years agoThe SFHQ October Evil Jam is your chance to add a little more evil to your happy little world. After all, what are heroes without foes to smack them around in the name of villainy?
The Evil Jam is a contest where the prize is the chance to get your character drawn in full color, but win or lose you'll still walk away with a kickass supervillain to call your very own! To enter, you need to sign up on the official SFHQ Contest channel, and must submit a full character sheet by 12 AM EST on the 31st. You must be a member of the SFHQ Discord to enter the contest.
Pick a song from the music list, and build a character around them. Try to pick something out of your comfort zone, and do your best to avoid a strict lyrical interpretation. Think about composition, instrumentation, and theme when it comes to your supervillain design.
Design a costume, powers, and most importantly a solid backstory. The backstory should fit into no more than three paragraphs. Keep it simple and concise.
The last two sections are where the meat of the Evil Jam is. In your submission, you must provide a short paragraph explaining how your character relates to the chosen song. Mention specific design choices, parallel themes, and other sources of inspiration. This must be no less than one paragraph.
Finally, list at least three connections to other characters/groups you own. It could be an alliance, a rivalry, or a plot element they share. The key is to think on a much larger scale. Gracefully integrate your new villain into the setting and tie them into ongoing stories as best as you can. They should feel natural and not forced.
There will be multiple rounds of voting depending on the number of entrants. Each round will last one week. Voting will be done in the SFHQ vote channel to prevent brigading. Only one vote per user per round. You may vote for yourself.
The winner will be decided after voting has concluded.

Updates and life stuff
Posted 7 years agoHey.
I know I've said I've had projects up and coming. I know I've missed pretty much every deadline. Things fell through and my life got super busy super fast. It's not looking like it's going to be any less busy for the time being, so unfortunately I have to shelve much of my artistic work.
I'm still practicing as a comic artist and trying to balance that with my wargaming hobbies, schooling, and hopefully soon a job. Mix that with managing SFHQ for quite a while, it means that my plate is absolutely full. Plus, there's the problem that my art is rapidly improving, which makes going from one page of mediocre art to another page of less mediocre art all the more jarring. I can't in good conscience release something like that, and combined with my desire to release things when they're finished rather than as an ongoing page feed, it means that it's becoming all the more difficult to actually finish anything.
I'm gonna just write this journal to say what I didn't want to be I felt needed to be said: I messed up. I overpromised and under-delivered. I'm not gonna say when I'll have anything to show, but it won't be soon and it won't be until I'm more capable an artist.
To those of you who were keeping tabs, thank you for your saintly patience. Hopefully by the end of the year, things will calm down.
I can't promise anything though.

New Year Profoundities
Posted 7 years agoI'm an idiot. A cultural bottomfeeder that subsists on media most think laughable. Cartoons, comic books, the kiddie stuff that's meant to go on until it runs out of seasons. Villains never lose, heroes never win, plot points are juggled around endlessly because you can only sell a story once, unless you repackage it endlessly. Closure is dangerous.
Well, I guess we all have to grow up sometime. I watched a cartoon end. Not run out of seasons, not get its funding pulled, and not pull a JLU-esque cliffhanger in a desperate attempt to keep the door open. Villains were dealt with, plotlines resolved themselves, main players found their squares, and the series ended. Nothing more is coming. The stories have all been told. I've honestly not seen something like that happen in so long, I forgot what it felt like.
I've never really finished anything. Maybe it's because I'm terrified of seeing it gone, seeing it end. It reminds me of my own mortality. I'm too young to be thinking about things like that. I'm 22, I'm supposed to think I'll live forever until I do something stupid enough to cement the rest of my life in a status quo. Get married, get a career, anchor myself in an apartment and grow old while my hobbies languish. I don't have time to finish things, and even if I did, that would mean my time with it has ended. I can't let that happen. Yet, here a group of people, animators, writers, voice actors, businessmen in suits, they all said they were done, and that we can all shake hands and go home.
I don't have all the time in the world. None of us do. I know I don't tend to post here heavily, I tend to just insulate myself in a genre that's built upon nothing ever changing. Superman is almost 100 years old, and he's still punching a bald man with a suit full of green space rocks for the forseeable future. Superman has been around longer than some people have lived. He'll be around long after I'm gone. That's hard to accept. I have about 30 years before I likely get too old and busy to really tell the stories I want to. I'm not going to have my own studio, and I'm already ten years in the hole. That should be distressing me.
But it doesn't.
It's okay to have something finished. It's okay to tell a story and have it end, to say goodbye to something that's unfolding, to not be afraid to let it go. A story never finished is as good as a story never told. I need to tell my stories, to write and draw those comics I'm saying I always will, and not shy away from saying something is actually finished. I won't live forever, so I need to make the most of every minute of it.
Maybe I just grew up, all at once, and all from watching a fucking cartoon accept the reality of the world. Who cares? This is the only life I've got, and it's the only one you guys have too. It's better late than never. I don't make resolutions because nobody follows them, but I'm going to start telling some goddamn stories and I want every single one of you to not be afraid to do it either. Tell something, let it go, let it end. There's worse things in life than telling all you can tell, and that's never having a story in the first place.
I apologize if this seems stupid, melodramatic, or cliché, or any other adjective you could hurl at a hack writer. Maybe this is obvious to you, or it's something you don't want to hear. But it's my mission statement and my promise to myself. Never give up, never quit, and never be afraid to say "the end."
Best of luck.
