with the help of my little sister as my most excellent sous chef, I made:

- an 18 pound turkey

- sweet potatoe casserole

- 3-cheese macaroni and cheese

- creamed spinach

- mashed potatoes

- meat stuffing

- a canadian bacon, asparagus, and carmelized onion quiche (as an appetizer)

and my mother made a huge thing of rice. :3

a dozen people came, a dozen people ate, and everyone was full and took home leftovers. We still have some food in the fridge, lol. hours and hours of cooking well-spent, IMO. Spent all day doing jack-SHIT, lol, and now I'm gonna go play some Wii.

lol, but seriously, I'm 22 today! People don't believe me (they swear I'm hitting 30, lol), but still pretty much a youngin, heh. The viewing for my grandfather was tearful but nice; lots of fond memories, lots of family and friends coming together...though sad, it was nice to remember his life. I was asked to sing "The Lord's Prayer", and a lot of people enjoyed that as a tribute to his memory. My cousin performed a song she wrote for him while playing a ukulele, which was pretty awesome. The burial was very small, almost exclusively family and close friends. The honor guard presented my grandmother with the american flag (my grandpa served in WWII), we placed roses on the casket, and we all went out and enjoyed a nice meal as a family, something I'm sure my grandfather would have loved. All in all, though the weekend was sad, it ended up being kinda nice in a solemn way.

But that's over and done, and I don't want to dwell on it too much. I had my moment, I cried, but now I need to focus on the responsibilities at hand. Gotta continue learning music for my recital while preparing for my audition next week for Royal Caribbean Cruises...which reminds me, I gotta get some headshots done...fuck. X3

Also, my birthday's comin up on November 17, so that's kinda cool. I've been told by my girlfriend to expect one hell of a surprise, so I'm pretty excited about that, hehehe.

Almost done with school! Once I finish this semester, I do my senior recital on January 22 and then I'm officially a college graduate! Huzzah for obtaining a bachelor's degree in vocal performance, heh.

Guess that's about it as of late. Had a somewhat funny moment browsing FA at work yesterday, mainly because there was a LOT of smut in my submissions folder and I was trying to clear it out...yeah, by the time I got home, I was pretty damn randy.

Hate it when that happens. >_<

I spent the weekend with my girlfriend and her family back in Virginia, had a blast (like seriously, SO much fun). We're sitting on the Greyhound, waiting for it to start back to NYC, so I call my mother to let her know I'll be home in about 5 hours or so:

"Hey mom, just callin to let you know we're on the bus and heading home."

"Oh, you're still down south?"

"Yep, catching the Greyhound. How's it going over there?"

"Why? What's up?"

"Well...I had wanted to wait until you got back...grandpa died this afternoon."

We're sad that he's gone, but we're happy that he isn't suffering anymore. There's no more pain where he's at now, heh.

RIP grandpa. I'm glad that I got a chance to tell you that I loved you one last time.

Like my other journal said, I recently got a new MSN messenger account due to my old one being infected and gross. The problem here is that I got an MSN Live account, and apparently none of the contacts I added are appearing on my list. That means that the dozen or so of you guys that read the last journal and re-added me (thanks!) aren't showing up, much to my frustration.

On a more sober note...my grandfather isn't doing well at all. He had another episode with his heart last night, and...well, if he has another one, he will die. I'm talking no exceptions; his heart literally cannot take another episode like this, otherwise it will fail completely. I'm leaving work early to visit him; hopefully I'll have a chance to tell him that I love him one more time before he's gone. You'll probably still see me hanging around here posting comments and whatnot, as I try to keep my personal shit to myself, but please keep me and my family in your prayers (or wish us well if you're not the praying type). At this point, we need all the positive energy we can get. *forces a smile* Things are gonna be okay, I know they will...but they suck pretty hard right now, heh.

That's the list of commissions owed so far. Just reposting this so that I don't have to rummage through my journals again. Gotta send a few notes, though...like, I know people have RL stuff that comes up, and that's understandable, but almost a year and nothing? C'mon now. I'm just saying, I'm being exceedingly patient, and I know that these artists would understandably focus their attention on commissions that they've been paid for. At the same time, though, I donated a nice chunk of change, and I'm just like to get what was offered. Not bawwing about anything, not looking to stir shit, not saying that artists are bad people, just makin a little statement. S'all good.

I was informed this afternoon that ALL College Writing students are now required to see two recently-hired adjunct professors for tutoring.

This effectively robs my of half of my academic tutoring work. Almost $60 a week.

Am I upset about the cash? Yes, but that's not the big issue here. The real reason I'm so upset is that I don't understand how my fucking college doesn't have enough in the budget to pay me more yet has enough to hire TWO PROFESSORS to do my job for me.

Why the hell am I being relieved of my job? It damn well isn't because I'm bad at it; I've been told on numerous occasions that I'm good at what I do. Hell, the head of the motherfucking English department has recommended me numerous times!

I'm just mad that a decision that my boss had no say in has robbed me of cash that I need. I'll be graduating this semester: after that, I need to look for full-time work. I'm working full-time for the school right now, taking only the final courses I need to graduate. I did the math; I'm somewhere close to 52 hours of tutoring work a week.

I was banking on that extra little bit of cash to have in my pocket so that I could do stuff I enjoy, like go out to eat with friends and buy commissions. Like I said, it's not -really- about the cash because I'm still eating regardless of the pay cut. I'm just upset that I had to get a phone call basically telling me that I need to stop teaching College Writing students, something I honestly enjoy and something I'm good at.

...man, that was fursuit money...shit.

*sighs* On the plus side, I'll more than most likely be making a journal in the next few days advertising proofreading work. They won't let me tutor here? Fine. I'll do it elsewhere.

My boss has chosen me for the job of statistician for the Writing Center at my school. Now, I'm noting if not a workhorse; as me to do something and I'll work as hard as I can to get it done to the best of my ability. However, I'm checking the old stat work that I wasn't previously responsible for...

You gotta SEE how fucking ridiculous this is. I have a stack of papers that I've already gone through multiple times, and I just not found out that I'll have to go through them AGAIN to see in what courses students were bringing in essays for us to go over. Moreover, I can't find the excel spreadsheet I used last semester for a different assignment, mainly because my boss doesn't know where it is. I found the old spreadsheet...the system this person used is the very definition of archaic. There's no way in hell I'm spending a week doing what could EASILY take me 5 hours.

Well, I'll keep this one short: my grandfather's in critical condition at the hospital. He can't be transferred to a rehab clinic due to the instability of his condition, so right now it's a lot of wait and see. I don't know how much longer he has...my grandmother asked me to learn "The Lord's Prayer" for when she dies, which is kinda morbid but frankly honest...cuz he doesn't have much more time, and she's not too far behind him...

On a little high note, my mother made arroz con pollo with habichuelas rosas on the side for dinner tonight, which was amazing, heh. Plus my boy AJ (who's on FA under  superrican, go check out his awesome digimon stuff) went on a cruise and brought me back a cinnamon-raisin rum cake, of which I partook for dessert...*chuckles* Guess it's pretty easy to make a foodie happy, heh.

Ingrown hair pulled a pokemon move and evolved into a cyst. Only problem is that I'm a part-time student this semester and therefore not eligible to be under my mother's medical insurance.
