Posted 12 years agowith my unstable work situation, even putting cash away, it just wouldn't be wise for me to go. The original plan was for me to take my girlfriend, but she couldn't go, and now with my not having a job/looking for a job/working part time, I just don't see how it would work.
I'll keep my eyes open, maybe something epic will work out and I'll be able to swing it, but at this point it would only work if someone needed an emergency roommate...and I'd take a pretty big hit on travel.

This isn't me passing judgment on anyone, I'm not leaving the website, I'm not climbing up onto some moral highhorse, I just need to fix this area of my life, once and for all.
If you want to save any of the images, I'll leave 'em up for a week, and expect a journal soon advertising the sale of any/all hard copies of artist portfolios and whatnot. I just need to start getting it out of my life; it isn't helping, and if anything, it's hurting me.
Like I said, this is a personal thing, so please don't think that I'm somehow condemning everyone or trying to spin this a certain way. I'm just informing people of why there are going to be some serious changes on my page.

I was working for a summer camp and retreat center in Pennsylvania for the last 6 years, full time for the last year and a half of that time. I was led to believe that I'd have a full-time position there, and was looking forward to moving on with my life with a legitimate career. I'd be able to marry my girlfriend (oh shit imminent proposal ftw), start thinking about a family, all that good stuff.
I got laid off two weeks ago. They went over budget after it was cut yet again for another year, and in addition to not being able to pay me a legitimate salary, they felt that the job they were offering wouldn't fit in with my plans for a future. Basically, they're right, but there's a LOT of other bullshit that went down that I really don't feel like rehashing right now. People weren't completely forthcoming with information, and my decision-making process was definitely influenced by a lack of said information.
As it stands right now, my parents are letting me move back into the house while I get back on my feet, which is a massive load off my mind, but shit sucks right now. I'm looking for work right now, pretty much anything that'll pay a decent buck, while trying to figure out what I want my life to look like. I need a career at this point, not a job, and I need to finalize the direction I'm traveling in order to be able to have the things I want, mainly a wife and a family at this point. In the short-term, I'm trying to work with the New York State Department of Labor's cleanup efforts after Hurricane Sandy, but again, that's short-term. I'm having a very hard time figuring out what exactly I can do for long-term work, especially because I don't have an extremely marketable degree. If I go back to school for a Master's Degree, it's easily 2.5-3 years of schooling to make up for my lack of specific prerequisites that won't even guarantee a job, so that's yet another part of this decision. Trade school's an option, but I have little to no experience other than basic manual labor...ugh. These are the kinds of thoughts I'm chewing on right now in the ol' brainmeats.
So yeah, I'm back in my beloved NYC, which is cool, and I'm determined to make good decisions for not only myself but for my relationship. On a MUCH less serious note, I'm excited about getting some artwork I paid for way back when, but don't expect to see any new artwork of Papi for a while, as that's a luxury I honestly can't afford right now. It isn't incredibly important, but I -am- saying all of this on a furry art site, so I figured it was pertinent. *shrugs*
If you do, keep me in prayer, you guys. I'm around, I'm alive, I'm trying to get back on my feet, and I hope to have much better news in the near future.
People keep asking me what I want for my birthday next week, and I keep telling them "a job!" XD
oh, and Black Ops 2. I just might make that a small birthday gift for myself, if only because I preordered it when I was employed...maybe. Part of me wants to be immature about it, but I really know I gotta bite that bullet anyway. At least my friends are taking me out to see the UFC on my birthday, which will be dope. George Saint Pierre's coming back on my freakin birthday, guys!!!

I'll make this simple for you. Modern Valentine's Day is a consumerist "holiday" almost specifically geared towards hopeless romantics and people who don't understand that acts of kindness/affection are a regular part of a relationship and not something you save for 1/365 days a year. If anything good can come of it, it's that I get to buy decent chocolate dirt-cheap after the pharmacies need to sell their overstocked heart-shaped boxes.
You like someone? Awesome. Just tell them and stop playing childish games. Let natural friendships take their course without trying to push something or make stuff awkward. You're in a relationship? Treat your significant other well all year 'round, and don't wait for one day out of the year just because your damn calendar tells you to.
Or you can give in to crass consumerism. Your call.
