Tomorrow's my last week working for a corporate restaurant; I'll be starting at the bar where my sister is running the kitchen in May. They've been trying to get me into that kitchen for months now, and it finally seemed like the right time to start asking questions. The manager's cool and willing to work around my performance schedule to a certain degree, and I'll be making pretty much the same amount I was making at the other place working with my sister and putting out honest, working-class food for a decent price instead of the slightly high-end, fine dining cuisine they're starting to push at my soon to be former job.

That explains pretty succinctly; if you can't read it, I decided not to stay at the academy.

I'm not military material. I don't think I ever will be. Moreover, I'm absolutely convinced that I am not the kind of person to excel or succeed at the position of correction officer. They need people at the academy who want to be there, who have a passion and drive to push through all obstacles and achieve that kind of success.

I'm not one of them.

For those of you who might not know, in addition to my culinary work, I had taken several civil service exams in an attempt to garner gainful, long-term employment. LONG story short, I've been accepted to the NYSDOCCS Academy in Albany, which is to say I'm training to be and will eventually become a corrections officer for New York State.

It's a rather big step in my life, one that I'm not 100% sure about but going for with eyes wide open. As I'll be in the academy 5 days a week with no phone access, I'll most likely only be online during the weekends, at least for the next 8 weeks. After that, I'll be placed in a facility, though I won't know until said placement. Essentially, I just wanna take a minute to let you wonderful fuzzballs, scalies, and whatever else you people are, that I won't be around that often for the foreseeable future, though I am most certainly not leaving forever, lol
