Limestone Quarry - Vagrant Story OST
Posted 13 years agoVagrant Story was popular around the same time that Squaresoft's PS1 gem "Final Fantasy Tactics" was (the one they now call "War of the Lions."). There's a saying in its beginning that directly references the historian of FFT, Alazam J. Durai.
I'm so glad that they brought this game to the Playstation Network's downloadable service. For some people, there's some fond memories to be revisited in playing this game over again once more. I got hip to this game before it was released in the year 2000, and recieved it as a friendly gift from a co-worker, for $20 dollars. I lost it in the home we had moved away from at one point, but bought it back in an old and now taken down retail store, where I was able to get it for $7.48 - a steal!^^ <3
This game isn't the most impressive of action RPGs, but for its time it stood out as one of the best. The audio experience here was superb, boasting realistic sound effects for character movement, weapon interaction, and even in the usage of spells. These kinds of things are pretty commonplace now, with all the greatness of audio technology that we have. But that doesn't mean that these small details should be overlooked, as they help to make some really great games.
I wrote about a few things that this game, Final Fantasy Tactics, and 4 other PS1 games make me think about, in a journal titled "Reminiscence," posted here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3473276/
I love things that ring of an old, ripened age, or just things that allude to very ancient things. It's one of the biggest driving forces behind the kinds of story ideas and inspiration that I follow in my writing...
Bahram BattleShip (Extended) - Z.O.E. - Orbital Refrain
Posted 13 years agoIt's an extended version of a track from the second battle area of the PS2 game "Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner."
I love...the utter fucking shit out of that game, and my friend who's in the army is a huge fan of it. It was made by the same guy who masterminded Konami's Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima.
And what do you do in that game? You tear shit apart, with your giant floating mecha, Jehuty, that can travel in all directions during gameplay, either by fucking them up with your arm blade, or by blowing them to bits with your shot powers. Or with sub-weapons.^^
A game with the potential to compete against everything they put on the PS3 and Xbox 360 market right now, that is, if someone got to reviving it at some point instead of coolposing with everything else so damn much unto many game developers' inevitable depressive fallouts. Sure you've got 'GOD' and more to work with in the PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware (and don't forget PCs! :3), but would it hurt to come down off of the "Yeah...we're badass because we can load a game down with ALL the curse words! >:D" high horse, and let shit, y'know..., "get real?" Lol...
And of course by "real" I mean mechas in outer space that can fuck up 50 opponents in 20 seconds flat...
Stage 6 - Chain Dive OST
Posted 13 years agoThere is just too much badassery going on here.
This track, and the tracks for stage 1 and 9 are my favorite tracks in the whole game.
Disillusion
Posted 13 years agoThis is a very old module that was created by someone who went by the name "Timelord."
That's about all I know about this module, outside of the fact that it was used in a certain MegaZeux game that boasted a nice side-scroller "engine" and side-scroller gameplay (side-scrolling is not the MegaZeux norm. MegaZeux is normally a game in top-down view.).

Final Zone (Extended) - Sonic the Hedgehog OST
Posted 13 years agoYou better have the skill, because you DAMN sure don't have the rings.
Oh wait. They wouldn't even MATTER here... >;D
Permutation - Donkey Kong Country (OC ReMix)
Posted 13 years agoI wanna be presumptuous and say that I think that, to an extent, Starla probably suffered a tiny bit of cynical criticism about the quality of her singing here. But the only reason I even would is because, if I'm correct (because I haven't done my homework), she's the same vocalist who sang in one particular Final Fantasy X remix of the "Besaid Island" theme, and to an extent I myself didn't quite like the singing in that remix. But I'm only making an uneducated guess plus I favor purely instrumental work over vocal work, so pay me no mind (assuming you ever do in the first place...).
I like this remix, I like her vocals, and I like the prose in her words. It's a beautiful work, and deserving of the praise it has recieved to date. But I care about nothing but porn, so what do I know of music taste?
As you were.
Jelly - World of Goo OST
Posted 13 years agoIt has "abandon" written all over it...
Ominous - Final Fantasy X OST
Posted 13 years agoThere is an eerie beauty about this one. I know that when I first played the game - fresh off of FF8 and FF9, and already accustomed to a few things about how to play a FF game - it was nice to hear as I was getting accustomed to the simplistic menus and the kinda akward moving control scheme (that common control scheme issue in 3rd-Person games where you move forward until the camera switches angles, and holding the same direction will keep you moving, until you switch directions - momentary disorientation, lol.).
Not knowing what to expect (what with the shift to a higher graphical standard that was totally made of copius back when people were still getting aquainted with newer, better PS2 graphics over PS1 graphics... ) and hearing this tune was just one of those generally, passively nice things that a person experiences in life when indulging themself in something done on a TV screen. Part of you is on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next, another intuitive part of you is in full realization that it is just a game, but another, lovely part of you is just happy to know that you're experiencing something that is pretty nice. It's a nice tune.
And of course, there was that akwardness where you're like "Aaagh! All that other psychadelic stuff with Auron and Sin happened just earlier, and now I'm stuck out in the middle of an ocean, near some funky ruins??? WTF IS GOING ON IN THIS GAME?!?!"
Good times. :3
Bushka - Roachman
Posted 13 years agoThe full song from an Adult Swim bump that was the second promo for Inuyasha Season 5.
Spotter - Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex OST
Posted 13 years agoEasily my favorite track from the anime series.
Something about it makes me think of nothing but the likeness of Sega Genesis stylized tunes..
Shop - Phantasy Star III : Generations of Doom OST
Posted 13 years agoI've never had any kind of history with this game, but back around the time when the PS2 compilation called "Sega Genesis Collection" came out, it was pleasant to hear it whenever I chose to play this game.
This was the iteration in the series that never recieved as much acclaim as the other three (Part 1 being a "Master System" (Game Gear) title, and parts 2 and 4 being Sega Genesis titles.). Still, when I played it for the first time I felt obligated to see its better points.
It's very old - one of those ancient types of RPGs where you get into "random battles" as you walk around on the overworld map, or in some smaller areas. I've only played a handful of RPGs like that, many not being from the Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo eras that were heavy with it. Still, I can appreciate the style, as the greater half of any RPG should be its story.

Posted 13 years ago(Repeater link: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=4Tla2K9le-Q )
This is a very old module that was created by someone named Nathan Ridley. It was meant to be used as the background music for a computer game, and was free to use as long as credit was given to the artist. I used ModPlug Tracker to make the entire song loop four times.
I remember this one being used in a handful of "MegaZeux" games, and I always loved the vibe I would get when listening to it. For some strange reason, it makes me think back to the oldest forays into fantasy fiction in videogames, bringing to mind a few different old DOS games that were based upon such a theme.
Good times.
I couldn't find a download link for this module...

Saber's Edge - Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy OST
Posted 13 years ago(Repeater link: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=EzIoFuxrwW0 )
I have to say that, this composition, starting from part at 0:32 on to 1:09, can easily make me cry. And why is that? Because that part is like, the most MEMORABLE section in this entire composition - Gives you that feeling of "Everything is on the line" or "If we don't make it here and now, we HAVE no future..." that gives me a chill down my spine every time. ;u;
The Final Fantasy games MIGHT not (and that's a very strong "might not...") have the most memorable storylines in the history of RPGs (honestly, I laugh at that idea...), but when all is said and done, what they will have done with an iteration in the series will go on to be remembered throughout time, even if only by a small cult following. I know of the stupidity that is "trying to avoid being a fan of what you like" that kids everywhere exercise these days. It goes to show you how ungrateful people are. I mean, they went from putting computers on your desktop to putting them on your LAP to putting them in your pocket. And somewhere in here, this only means that there's an autstic person somewhere who is much happier with their gain than all of the REST of the world's unending supplies of 'try too hards'. They give us everything, and we bitch about art direction? Grow up, people.
This tune also happens to be a large inspiration for what it would be like for my main protagonist characters - in their half-angelic forms - to be fighting against Nirvana or Paradox or Nirvana Paradox, as well as what it would be like for Retribution or Savory to fight against Nirvana Paradox.^^
Also, if it's of anyone's interest, here's a great battle that I did that goes along great with this tune.^^
Lightning (LV1) vs Squall (LV100) - Quick Battle 2
I love that last minute save at 11:19...
TimeScars - Chrono Trigger (OC ReMix)
Posted 13 years ago(Repeater link: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=fRigfICOa7g )
I never did play that game to its finish. I only got as far as when you're allowed to switch your party members in and out (Crono, Lucca, Marle, Frog, and Robo. It's the point in the game just before you can get Ayla.). And this was only on the PS1 port, not the original, which debuted on the SNES.
At one point, it was called "The Greatest RPG Of All Time."
Of course, that was BEFORE the internet got overrun with coolposing hipsters, lol...
It's a nice mix. Something you could enjoy if you like to sleep to techno music.^^
One thing of note: I've had it in mind to create a Marvel vs Capcom 3 stylized remix that would serve to be "Crono's Theme" of that game were he included in the roster! :D I know how it would sound by about 75%, but I don't have any music making skills outside of arranging pre-organized riffs (I've been playing around with music programs all my life.).
It would be a great piece, and would be reminiscent of the style of Amaterasu's Theme music, "The Sun Rises," from Marvel vs Capcom 3. It would mainly consist of a remix stemming from a section of "Magus Confronted" that fully proceeds in a techno remix of "Green Memories."
Circles - Lumines

One of the friendlier tunes of the Lumines games.
I know full well that many people love this one.^^

Yet another one that was often used in MegaZeux games. I wanna say that I remember it from the more "action-y" MegaZeux games, but generally, it can be hard to judge anything that MegaZeux was capable of as being so very 'action-y'...
We're all far beyond the days of CGA, EGA, VGA, and SVGA graphics. You don't jump online (and on a BBS board... XD) and find computer games that are only ohh, 10MB in size thinking "WOW! THIS ONE IS PROBABLY SOME HOT SHIT!" =D
Nooo no. THESE days, your average MINIMALIST game is only around a 'mere' 300MB or 800MB in file size, if not a 'measly' 1.2GB in size... (How do you people draw such God-tier art IN SUCH A SHORT TIME?!?! ._. ).
Bad Karma
Posted 13 years ago(Repeater link: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=oo_N3pOuq3g )
This is a very, very old module from the 90s, created by (or for?) someone who went by the name "Major Tom" (sounds like the Metal Gear Solid 3 character... ) of a group (?) called "Cybersapiens." I think it was meant to be his "theme music" or something.
You can download the original on http://modarchive.org here: http://modarchive.org/index.php?req.....mp;query=34959
I've always known this one as yet another nice module that was used in many of the quote "worlds" of that quirky little "build a world" ascii game, "MegaZeux" (think "Completely 2D Minecraft with a multitude of awesome pre-programmed possibilities!" :D). I think the first time I came across it was when I played a MegaZeux game where the first "board" (the first "screen") was a screen with several "houses," where on one particular one entailed some dialogue that included a possible asinine answer to give to its "resident," to which the resident would reply "Then get the fuck out of my house."
THAT particular MegaZeux game came with typed up warnings about the themes of its usage of profanity, which most other MegaZeux games didn't entail.
The world was a very different place back then. Kids and old folks weren't "innocent," but at least there were those of us who could simply enjoy feeling the wind in our faces and on our backs. Less technology, less convolution, more respect for the simplicity of being human...
I know I'm HORRIBLY inconsistent on SEVERAL levels here...
...but I miss my nights of only enjoying the sound of the wind, while playing with my [small sized] Legos, and creating random battle stories between my Lego characters and my brother's action figures... XD
Feel No Fear ~Sky Gallery~ (Extended) - Chaos Legion OST
Posted 13 years ago(Repeater link: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=hMaVr7pDzXo )
My favorite track in the game.
Personally, this game was an unhealthy obsession of mine back in 2006, along with the Silent Hill games. Unhealthy, because for where it was that I lived I could've benefitted from something; anything more positive and bright in overall presentation. But, like many Capcom games, this game had the charm of being a solid and enjoyable gaming experience while also sparing little to no detail in the depth of its presentation. They have a knack for busting out "Mature" rated games that could very well sit comfortably proper on a shelf with a "T for Teen" rating. But that's society's shallow taste in artistry for you.
Raising Thanatos was a guilty pleasure of mine, heh. All I wanted to do was nurture the 'tyke' and let him toy around with "The Ignorant Masses" ("The Ignorant Masses" - the Thanatos Legion's super move, that slaughters anything that just so happened to be stupid enough to be sharing the same space as Thanatos at the time... ).
Movin' On (Stage 1) - Chain Dive OST
Posted 13 years ago(Repeater link: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=GBbKs_3iAAc )
I never knew the name of this tune until I saw it in a youtube comment on this very video link.
I freakin' LOVE the bass in this piece! :D Music creator Yuji Takenouchi was definitely onto something when he came up with this beat, because it is just awesome.
First time I ever heard it was in the same predicament that MOST folks heard it, which was from a Japanese import demo on a certain Playstation Magazine demo disc (The not-so-successful PS2 game "Lifeline" was the 'main attraction' on that disc, I believe. But it also featured Chain Dive, and a playable demo of it.^^).
Listen to it with some GOOD headphones to fully appreciate this beast (Dat BASS! ).
Immortal Souls - Eternal Champions (OC ReMix)

My brother is a cult fan of this game.
I love this remix, and I generally love the relative ideas that the creators of Eternal Champions had in mind when they made the game.
So comic book-y...^^
Goodman Stage - Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum OST

This brings back sweet, sweet memories.^^
Castle Stage - Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum OST
Posted 13 years ago(Repeater link: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=Lfop9Bi5vz8 )
This brings back good memories. I may have still been living in a ghetto at the time, but the memories I have with this game - talking about it with my friend who's in the army, and playing it with him and my brother - are good memories.
This game also contributed to my growing love and renewed affections towards the Sega Genesis era.
SNK Playmore has been around for a very long time, just like Capcom has. And I absolutely adore their love and enthusiasm when it comes to artistry in general...

The Phantom Battle!
I think I heard a small technical mistake in the loop at 1:49/1:50, but that's forgivable SINCE BADASS TUNE IS STILL BADASS!!!
Now I miss the days of sitting in a roach infested darkness while tearing Nelo Angelo's ass wide open...
Mad props to (linik) knuckles155 of YouTube for providing this greatness. (SUBSCRIIIBED!!! ).
