DNA doesn't lie!
Posted 9 years agoSeems a DNA trace my youngest brother did, has turned up some interesting things.
* Most of our family bloodline is Irish.
* There's also English, German, French (Yeah.. finally confirmed that! ) along with Eastern European.
* Nordic blood line found. There's also confirmation of the Dutch.
* Italian, Portuguese, and Greek (GREEK!! Maybe I'm related to Pythagorus???).
* Traces of Russian (it's likely Russian Jewish decent).
Now, I still wonder if the RH-Negative blood of my youngest brother an Mom, is non-Terran in nature? Hehehee… NAW.. probably something in the Neanderthal line (when Humans cross bred with them).

Posted 9 years agoDang… a good chunk of a back molar just broke off this afternoon.
*sigh* Me and my teeth. It's happened before in other spots.. just my luck to have teeth that fracture easily.
Oh well.. it is what it is.
DAMN! I must sound like Popeye now.

Sooooo busy
Posted 9 years agoBeen lurking of late for two reasons; 1) my Apple MacBook wifi is on the fritz, and I haven't gotten it fixed yet. 2) I've been attending the NCTM national math conference in San Francisco.
Four days of talks & workshops - up at 5:30am to get there by 8am. I get serious Zzzzz's at the end of the day, but I am learning a lot.
Yea.., some of furries do math!
I'll get back to some level of normal next week.

Zootopia Noms...
Posted 9 years agoOkay I think it's safe to say that the herbivores in Zootopia are eating veg. That's sort of obvious. But, what about the predators? They don't eat the prey in Zootopia (that we *know* of anyway).
But, there are some things in the movie that have got me pondering (predator nom's is one).
* Could they only eat fish, or birds (I don't recall bird citizens) for the predators?
* Could the predators eat the,.., well.. eat the dead? Sure would solve not just a grave yard problem, but the protein issue for some predators. ( "Solent Green is PEOPLEEEE!!" -- cough.. .sorry).
* Non-Evolved critters?
Thought's folks????

Last health update -- Wahoo!!
Posted 9 years agoEverything fine!
* Stuff they look for every 6 months was basically undetectable!
* Two more checkup's like that and it be moved to once / year!

My Macbook - UPDATE
Posted 9 years agoWHEW!!! I truly have appreciation for the Apple Genius Bar.
I'd been having issues with my Macbook since I'd downloaded Lion-OS a few months back. Most if the issues centered around the "Systems Preferences" and it's lack of function.
Slowly rebuilding the applications and email.
It's been a rather good day. I even saw Zootopia! That's a hell of a good movie, and I plan on seeing it again!
UPDATE: Unfortunately the email is being a total BUTT! It's not linking well, it's not reading well (sometimes on.. sometimes off). Called up Apple, and even an attempt at a remote assistance failed (their link for that didn't even load on Safari). I know feel like Officer Judy Hopps... at the DMV... and no expediency in resolving an issue.
ARGH!!!! The 3-humped pregnant Camel's more entertaining than this frustration.

(takes a breath!) WEEKEND!!
Posted 9 years agoTwo weeks flat out, between work and family obligations.
So this weekend:
* Haircut (finally) Saturday morning.
* ZOOTOPIA mid-day.. I have been struggling to see this movie!!!
* 4:45pm... get the Apple Store to reload LION-OS onto my Macbook.
... I must say, that while I do appreciate the choice of Apple to only give the OS updates (and other software) as online downloads, it's a lousy when that connection proved to be just... BAD!
On a Verizon link now (thank GOD) but my prior AT&T DSL was just .. well, it's poor performance caused the current hiccups in my Lion-OS. So, Apple's gonna fix it for me (free thankfully).
Just another reason why I LOVE Apple! Customer support!

Posted 9 years agoBeen so busy the last few days, but no more so than today.
My Dad had some cataract surgery today. New technique is to apply a laser to make an incision for removing the natural lens, so a new artificial lens can be implanted.
Whole thing took under 1 hour!! Holy CATS!!
I am just truly amazed!!

ART question.. experienced adult & non-adult artist feedback
Posted 9 years agoOkay, this has been brewing in my brain pan since the end of FC 2016.
What kind of art might be able to sell? I mean really SELL.
What I know:
1) There are many more experienced artists out their who sell their wares.
2) Most of my best work seems to be oil/canvas landscapes.
3) Porn sells (face it.. lots of adult art sells).
4) My drawing skills (mostly a result of on-again/off-again efforts) run from really decent to ... eh!
So, my general questions concern all these four.
A) Should I look at furry art in oil, in pencil media?
B) Should I keep it clean, or try my effort at adult themed art?
I really would like to break into selling something. I just can't seem to make up my mind, and I'm not sure what I'd be getting into if I went into adult work?
Not too worried about the $$$ question.. I'm a bit from that point yet. But, more experienced artists who have and DO sell.. I'd love some feedback.

FC - Friday 1/15/16 Day 2
Posted 9 years ago8:45am - arrived at FC, and proceeded to the Creator's Lounge, to complete a few pieces of artwork planned for the art show (work, family, etc., had delayed a bunch of the work).
10:30am - all the art was finished and I delivered it to the art show. I also took a few moments to register for the silent bidding; a few stickers were placed on cards, before I headed off to the "Furrywood Voice Acting Workshop" (aka: Buck Hopper's creation) now hosted by
Carrizo (same great guy...just new online name). If you go to www.http://furrywood.com/fw/ you can get a listen on the raw recordings made.
Around 1pm I finally got to the Dealer's Den, and purchased items (4 books, art work from Rukis, Vantid, and Brian Reynolds
toonfx
I also met two people I've been eager to meet face to face. The first was
mountaingoat aka.. Tanabi of Tigerdile! Then I finally met
soba face to face. I was batting 1000!!
Afternoon events took me to a few more talks (I'll post which one's later) and then dinner. Around 6:30pm
sirfox stopped by as I was again drawing in the Creator's Lounge. After chatting for a bit, I went to the artist's reception in the art gallery.
Returned home about 11pm

FC - Thursday 1/14/16 Day1
Posted 9 years ago5:21pm
Arrived after a modest drive & some rain (with thunder) and pre-reg pickup was a breeze!
Art Show - been in line at the door, with art in hand since 5:00 (listed opening time). Not sure why a delay, but - 20 of us,.., all chomping at the bit to check in the work, hang it, and eat (or catch sleep for those having flown in).
We finally all got into the room, just after 6pm, checked in the art, with most of it up by 8pm (they had to make sure the panels were secure).
8pm-ish: Went to "Original Joe's" across the street from the Marriott; fabulous spaghetti dinner!
9:30pm I returned to the atrium were several hang out to draw, and spent almost 2 hours working to fix & complete two art items that weren't yet ready to hang.
Only big surprise was the $2 increase in parking at the convention center (now $12 all day event). Ehh.. That's okay with me; it cuts down on my walking
Got home for some sleep by 12:15am.

Megaplex UPDATE
Posted 10 years agoHappy New Year to all my friends in FA, my family, and around the world!
Also.. I'm officially registered for Megaplex "British Invasion" 2016 (I'm #363 it seems).
The hotel has also been booked!! Currently - Arriving on Thursday (Aug 4) and departing Monday (Aug 8). I'll have to wait a bit to schedule the flight. But, ... AWESOME!!!!
Further Confusion 2016:
YES, I am attending FC again, and plan on material in the art show (with moving stuff for my folks off-and-on since Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and work) I've only got a few items registered for the panel I bought space on; I'm scrambling to get other stuff done.
A few items I may just pull out of storage, or literally off the wall, to make the collection of art complete enough for the show.
Again.. Happy New Year!

Blood lines... OMG
Posted 10 years agoIn less than 2 weeks, I've found out we've got Dutch in our blood.
Then, just this evening, my youngest brother's found out we've definitely been on the continent since 1620, that our Davenport line was an artist, that the earliest record of the Davenport line is from the 700's in England.
But, in addition to all this... we maybe related to a DUKE? WTF??
I hope there's $$$ and LAND still connected with this.
More as we dig.

Busy Busy Busy!!
Posted 10 years agoBeen helping my folks move into their new house (lots of stuff. LOTS of STUFF!!!).
One wild thing... A new find in regard to the family tree!
**Still can't believe my youngest brother discovered this...***
Part of my family line (on my mom's side) is DUTCH!!!
So now I'm part: German, English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish (possibly French, but really not sure on that) and now Dutch!!
Wow.

Carrier's switched - Good bye and "Bite Me" AT&T
Posted 10 years agoI finally went to my cell phone carrier, and got one of these miniature "hot spot" transceivers. I just couldn't watch art streams, go onto STEAM, check email, etc., with the slug of a DSL I had with AT&T.
Just wasn't satisfied with their quality.
The Verison transceiver.. WOW!! I got 8 gigabites for $70 a month ($8.75 per gig) and this sucker's lickity split!
And I did get my new LION OS onto the MacBook (just a few hiccups.. so I need to get it checked at the Apple Store - not sure it loaded completely, when I did it over the DSL two weeks ago. I'm getting zero function from 2 or 3 things).
So... yeah... computer stuff looking good.

2016 ... may bring me some changes
Posted 10 years agoI'm looking for a better job, currently. The one I have is just not adequate enough these days to keep up with the 24% health insurance premium increase (come January). Work's version of a health plan would take even more money from my pay, which is why I stick with personal coverage.
Then there's the house payments. NO... I'm not defaulting... just your average squeeze - which I can handle... Just want more $$ breathing room.
The housing market's still got some kick to it too, and... well... the option to sell and garner something is tempting (the "Capital Gains Tax" isn't though). But, it's going to take some soul searching for this to actually happen.
Shall be at Further Confusion (and have something in the art show). I have a goal to make a second trip to Megaplex in 2016 as well, and I'm saving for that.
And if luck holds I'll soon be running my 2007 MacBook on "LION" OS. It's as high as I can take it w.r.t. the OS, but it'll help me run the STEAM games a bit better.

Posted 10 years agoTo all my friends I've found & met through FA - happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
Feeling 1000000% better!
Posted 10 years agoWhew! Boy I am feeling soooo much better now that I've shaken this cold. And it sure knocked me on my bear butt for nearly 3 days!
But, I'm back to my normal, appreciative self! In fact I just put down a payment for the Further Confusion Art Show, and reserved a 4ft x 4ft panel for my art.
And, I'm going to try and get some sketch work together for the following:
a) Holiday Cards! Yes... this time again. Want to get this rocking and rolling now, and have something going out within the next week (keep your claws crossed those friends across the pond). At the very least I'd send you a commercially made card, with a piece of sketch work inside.
b) FC 2016 Con Book -- I'm actually going to try and send in something, before the deadline. I have a good idea in my head... just need to transfer it to paper and then to color. At the very least, it'll be in the art show.
c) Oil painting - I am totally behind in keeping up with this. I want to get out and paint. Astronomy stuff, then Megaplex, then my folks moving in with me for a duration (they'd sold their house) and my own working hours to keep mine paid up have all eaten into any painting time. Trying to change that!
Oh...speaking of my folks... They bought a house!! Yay! It means they'll be about 2 to 3 miles from the grand kids, and 2 hours away from me (yeah.. hell of a drive if I go to visit). But, they found what they really liked and at a good price! I'm happy for them :-D

First cold in a year
Posted 10 years agoYeah,.., I feel like a Mac trucks parked on my sinuses😷
Not distant, just lacking connection
Posted 10 years agoI'm experiencing issues with my Internet.
This has kept me from effectively visiting streams, chatting in streams, favoring artwork, and posting my own.
And, I'm planning to look into corrective measures; I thought the newest wifi router would do the trick, but even that's been a bust (..as in not really effective, not the other kind of "Bust" ... hehehe).
So, if you don't see artwork, photos, or just common comments, etc., it's not me ignoring you, or being snide, snooty, and so on. It's just my digital link beyond my little alcove of Furry culture being derpy.
Now, carry on and DRAW LIKE CRAZY peoples!

Rotto - router UPDATE!!!
Posted 10 years agoBought a new router to upgrade my connection. Just wanted to have wireless again, so I could move the laptop around the house.
But, seems the router's not really talking to the modem, and I have no clue why.
Got a call into a computer wiz buddy of mine; hope he can figure out my problem. It was a $32 modem, but if I have to return it for a higher end one, then so be it.
YAHOO!!! I got the blasted think working!!! Man... great piece of electronics, but lousy instructions!!!
Eye's, or the "Windows to the Soul."
Posted 10 years agoI'm one of those nearsighted people who, if not for the modern polycarbonate plastic lenses, would be sporting coke-bottle thick lenses.
Last year I was told I have a case of Cataracts. It's not uncommon for anyone to get this, since it's a normal part of aging.
I also have a struggle with focusing on items close up, even with the progressive lenses I use (mostly due to the loss of flexibility in the natural lens, which begins for most of us at age 40).
Today I had the annual eye exam and there was a lot of good news!
* I do NOT need new glasses (whew!) since the pair I've been wearing for 2 years now was a whopping $900 at the time.
* My focus issues will continue, and the only mitigation is to occasionally look away from screens, printed material, etc., to give my eyes (mostly the left eye) a rest.
* While the cataracts are progressing - slowly - it's NOT sufficient to have any lens replacement surgery done. It's too early, by my ophthalmologist's findings, to do this replacement anyway (and.. my insurance doesn't cover it till it's > 50% obscured).
BIG sigh of relief; though I wish a better solution to the eye strain was available. It also creates problems in doing artwork at times.
