Well..., THAT was a weird experience
Posted 7 years agoSix years ago I was treated for prostate cancer.
The process to treat it was very successful! Last January I was suffering from dehydration, and had a bit of an issue; it might have been a kidney stone, an infection, or something else.
Long story short I have had iodine dye injections to X-ray the kidneys, and such.. again 100% okay. Last test..., a check inside..., like into the bladder.
Whew!! Again A-Okay.... just ..., weird. Just downright..., weird.
Again weird is okay to insure that I am!

Posted 7 years agoI love my folks. Don't get me wrong on this.
Love mom and dad, but... this weekend... yikes.
* They knew I usually end up bringing work home to deal with on the weekend (nature of my work).
* They KNEW I need to get at least 80% of it done, before I can even do the odd thing for them.
Well,.., they volunteered me for two things this weekend, never discussed it with me; never thought to even ask... Just painted me into a corner and left me with no way to say, no (and.. I'm being polite as I write this).
Only 10% of what I needed to complete got done, and that was yesterday. Today, Sunday... 12 hours screwing around with something that a hired and licensed contractor should have been hired to address.
I love my folks. I keep chanting this right now; biting my tongue; chewing on a large aspirin tablet.
Slow 🔥 right now.

49 years ago today.., “.., The Eagle has landed.”
Posted 7 years agoI am still in awe of this event in Human primate history.
49 years ago today, Apollo 11 touched down in Mare Tranquilus (Sea of Tranquility) and not long after Neil Armstrong, and Edwin Aldrin became the first and second Human beings to set foot on our Moon.
Michael Collins, Command Module pilot remained in orbit around the Moon, with his own scientific duties to perform.
..., I was only eight years old.
..., I watched on a black & white TV two fellow humans doing something I’d hoped to do myself when I grew up.
It still sends chills through my spine.., I still hope we return long before I ever take a final breath.
This was a Human event as much as it was an American event. But, make no mistake...
It was American ingenuity, commitment and pride (as much as Cold War politics) that got six landings, and 12 American astronauts to and from the Moon safely.
We can do it again! We SHALL do it again!!

Free at last !!! No more boot
Posted 7 years agoOMFG I just got the podiatrist to clear me, and I’m finally free of the walking cast!
I’ve only been in the goddamn thing since December 26.
No more walking cast, and no more crutches. It’ll be a while before I can do anything really strenuous that my feet would incounter but at least I’m walking normally again.

Fun day at the track - helped kids!
Posted 7 years agoA local children’s hospital had a fund raising event at Golden Gate Fields today.
Joined my family in the event, had decent Sunday brunch at the horse track, and bet on the ponies twice! I broke even & had a lot of fun.
Anything to help the kids get healthy again!

Knitting- and still in the boot.
Posted 7 years agoWell..., the bone is knitting, BUT it’s slow.
Seems it also cracked all the way through before knitting (go figure that one). But, it’s not misaligned and knitting. Still.., crap!
I’ve been in this since 12/26. I want healed now!

Can this left hind paw of mine get any worse?
Posted 7 years agoI thought I’d be free of this stupid walking cast today.
I’ve been wearing this damn thing since December 26th. It’s not healing!!!
It’s what’s called a Jones Fracture, and where the break is, is on the floor facing side of the bone.
So,.., I’m now on crutches too, to keep all the weight off it as I try to walk. I’m hoping that by next month it’s closing up. If not...
I don’t want to think about it.
Damn it! This really sucks!

Well..., crud! Work schedule and Megaplex
Posted 7 years agoWell word came down from our Board Of Directors... all sorts of professional development we’re required to attend for work.., and it’s right during Megaplex.
Well that kills going again this year (to even go I’d be making a Red Eye flight and only get 1 full day, before flying back).
Just an impossible trip. I really REALLY wanted to go, but this job is just too damn good to jeopardize it with a visit to Megaplex.

Guess what happened to me at work, first day back!?
Posted 7 years agoI passed out!
Not once, but twice.
My coworker kept me from face planting in to floor, but it resulted in an ambulance ride (their call.., not mine) then 3 hours on a gurney in the ER: 3 separate blood draws, 3 chest X-Rays (to see if I had any enlightenment of the heart, bleeding, or clots).
No heart attack✔️
No bleeding ✔️
No clots✔️
No blood proteins to indicate heart issues or stroke ✔️
Conclusion.. the flu bug left me dehydrated enough that in my first day back it tanks my blood pressure. Whammy 🙀
Told to take Monday off just to be sure, and stay hydrated !!!
Damn.. and lord knows what my bill will be!? I have insurance, but still.
Scaaary shit!
So any Furry with the flu at the moment.. WATER and lots of it!

Missing 2 day of work, so far. Thankfully we get 7 day paid max if we use them. I actually HATE this, and not due to this bug, but in the fact I love this job!
Damn it Mother Nature- why do you make such viruses?

Posted 8 years agoI register for my FC Hotel.. get it all paid for.
I get my car fixed, so I can drive to FC and avoid alternate transportation (like Amtrak or Southwest).
And what do I discover forgetting to do???
Pay my registration for FC 2018 of course!
It's been corrected, but... dang I was just absent minded this year.

Happy Thanksgiving- and to seek that which to be thankful 4
Posted 8 years agoFor many in the U.S., today is officially Thanksgiving Day. But, many don’t know it wasn’t an official U.S. holiday until 1941, when it was signed into law by FDR.
It goes further back!
It started as a fall festival; Imported by the English settlers to North America, if I recall my grade school history (if I’m off a bit cut me some slack.. it’s over 50 years ago when I learned this ).
Anyway, what I recall learning (while making construction paper Turkeys) is that it goes back to around 1620. Pilgrims who’d settled in Jamestown, Virginia (about 1610?) had survived a deviating winter. Of the 490 they lost 430 to starvation. That’s 87.7% of the resident population in the farming community. The local tribe of Indians wasn’t much better off. One could easily see this as a repeat of the loss the of the Roanoke Island, Virginia settlement from 1585 (now officially the first Virginia colony).
The locals and the colony counted their blessings in a feast, because after the lethal winter, the resulting fall harvest was very successful.
Historically this the main (if general) history of Thanksgiving. But, put down the drum sticks, turn off the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade of balloons (psst.. Rose Parade is better anyway) and reflect!
What Are/should you be thankful for this day?
Me: my folks are still alive, as are my siblings and their family. I have a great job (6 months in and loving it). Most of my long time & recently awesome new friends are alive and well too. Most importantly I am alive! Five years ago I was sweating..., being told I’d developed prostate cancer. But, modern medicine (and a great deal of well wishes from this community of knuckle heads & and good luck) has put me officially past that magic 5-year mark.
Many, sadly, are not that lucky. So please look to all the good things in your life today. Count the good times and happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁.
Now go pig out 🦃🦃🦃🍻🍻🍻🍻💖

Posted 8 years agoMy dentist confirmed..., I have a cracked molar. Great, just dandy!
So I now get a consultation to see if I only need a good crown on it, or a root canal.
The upside.., my new job provides dental insurance.

Eyes Eyes have it!!
Posted 8 years agoSeems I need new glasses.
Yes.. and I have to actually go to a weaker prescription. So... when I get the new specs I'll have separate reading glasses again.
My eyes are age 28 all over again!
Not really, but I had separate readers at that age.
It was a good 5 year run on the one's I'm going to ditch.

Quick Update...
Posted 8 years agoMegaplex -- Next year (2018)
Further Confusion -- YES, and I'll be attending this year (arriving on that Friday in January of 2018).
House sale --- Nothing yet (sigh). Finally fired my realtor, and starting fresh.
Car -- Still runs. AC fixed... New Brakes... Still need to find the $$$ to have some engine work done, though.
Mom's gonna be turning 82 this month (YAY!) and still healthy and active.
Dad's gonna be turning 84 in December (Though I REALLY wish he wasn't going out of his way to be a couch potato).

TRON trivia... Greetings Programs!
Posted 8 years agoGREETINGS PROGRAMS!
Okay, now that I have your attention... every movie in the last few years has a few Easter eggs (you know those odd items that most of us never notice, but look for after we've heard about them)?
Okay I've got two.. yes TWO for the original movie, TRON, from Walt Disney Pictures.
If you are up to the challenge, post your answers below... lets see how well everyone does! I'm giving you all till this THURSDAY.
Question 1: What is the slogan in Alan's cubical at ENCOM?
Question 2: What is the video game icon on the tactical board on Sark's destroyer?
Good luck!
PS: Please do NOT go and run the movie.. that's cheating in my book. This has to be from memory.

Next two weeks
Posted 8 years ago Well, starting tomorrow, I'm going to be going down to Southern California. It's for something astronomy related and it'll be over the memorial day weekend. It's a trip I've been taking for just about 20 years straight, and I'm really hoping this will be the last year. Not that I don't enjoy seeing friends once every 12 months but, the drive is beginning to get to me; there is no way to fly in there.
The following weekend is BLFC in Reno, NV. It's only about 2 Hours Dr. for me, and it's tempting. But, I don't know if I'm going to be able to get away and attend. Like megaplex, it may be an added expense I just don't need.
The other thing I plan to do, is at least go out and do some more oil painting. I'm well out of practice, and going outside to paint would be a nice distraction.
