Despite America's rocky history with China,
Posted 5 years agoI really hope their nuclear fusion experiments go well. Aside from producing very little hazardous byproduct, the majority of byproduct would be free, renewable helium.
It would be great to have a few small 50-80 cubic-foot cylinders around the house that could driven over to the local welding supply store for a refill for the cost of a tank of gas (automobile gasoline, that is) at most.

Posted 5 years agoAw, crap. Balloons-United is shutting down.

With their instantly-recognizable purple "We Love Balloons" logo balloons showing up in almost every balloon videos channel, and Maggy Berloon (nickname chose because she's from Berlin) freely giving interviews and writing blogs about looners and her personal history as one, that store has become a fixture for the community.

Chuck E Cheese filing for bankruptcy
Posted 5 years agoSad. But I always preferred Discovery Zone and the local arcade/pizza chain Circus Pizza. I guess Trampoline Parks and membership-fee-supported Arcade Clubs are the future now.
Lili from Dumbo's Circus.
Posted 5 years agoThanks to Kevin Perjurer for reminding me of that early influence. I really wanted her to give me a balloon and a hug as a kid.

And damn Disney for abandoning Pooh Corner and Dumbo's Circus.

Well, this is tragic.
Posted 5 years agoWhy the heck does deviantart not allow protonmail?
Posted 5 years agoThat's bull. Pressure from the FBI and NSA, most likely.
Finally getting into Minecraft.
Posted 5 years agoBalloons are Education and Bedrock Editions only. Well, that's BS!
Between the Lions
Posted 5 years agoI had pretty much outgrown kids edutainment TV by that point when it first aired, but I'm really getting into it now. The cubs are adorable, and the interactions of their parents... They should make an entire spinoff of Cleo and Leo's steamy flirting with each other.
Big thanks to Defunctland for letting me know this exists and dragonman666 for the youtube playlist.
It's a damn crime Square One TV's Mathnet segments never got a full DVD release. They deserve a Criterion restoration and preservation.

While I hate Disney...
Posted 6 years ago... for what they've done to Star Wars and Marvel vs. Capcom and cancelling Tron 3, etc., after getting caught up on Ducktales, I'm all warm and fuzzy inside and totally stoked for season 3. It appears they're making it into a unified Disney Afternoon-verse. Can't wait to see how they've updated Gadget and Gosalyn and Daisy Duck. History may well repeat itself and Gadget might one again be the mother of a generation of furries.
Taylor Swift in Cats
Posted 6 years agoLooks like a new generation of fur fans is about to awaken. I don't know if T.S. Eliot would be amused or appalled. He wrote The Triumph of Bullshit, so he'd probably take it in good humor.
Corsican Cat-Fox
Posted 6 years agoI vote to scientifically name this newly discovered species F. Napoleanis after Corsica's most famous son. He was quite the wily, elusive fox and had a mercurial cat-like temperament to boot.
I wonder if they could be bred with the Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat. With a thick coat, there'd be nothing stopping them from finally conquering Russia.

Dammit, deviantart.
Posted 6 years agoI suppose it's not too unreasonable to bring back the forced-account age gate, but they'd better also loosen the content restrictions if they're going to make people sign up to view.
Police content too much and they'll end up like tumblr.

Qualatex Chrome Balloons
Posted 6 years agoThose babies are absolutely gorgeous, but looking around ebay, it looks like Chinese sellers were pretty quick to copy the formula. It's a bit difficult to get too outraged by corporate espionage when the genuine ones from Qualatex are only available in 11-inch. This would be a gold mine opportunity for the company if they brought back the Q24s in chrome colors.
Kemono Friends 2
Posted 6 years agoHearing that the first episode is moderately well-received, but the new studio is playing it safe and rehashing the elements that originally made a sleeper hit. Kadokawa can still go suck on koala pap for their treatment of Tatsuki.
There's still excellent doujinshis that continue Kaban's story after she set sail into the sunset in search of others of her kind.

Just, remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power
The sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm at forty thousand miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the Milky Way
Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.
We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.
The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

Posted 8 years agoIt hasn't updated is a long time, but I went back and read the Gentle Breeze tumblr story from the beginning. A story of a young pony who loves balloons and the difficulties of living as a sensitive nonpopper. Sometimes heartwarming, sometimes gutwrenching. I really know how he feels.

No, I don't want to be automatically opted-in to the premium version with the resource-eating and intrusive bullshit alerts that aren't applicable. No, I'm not going to wait weeks for the free trial to expire or give you my email in order to be opted-out and wind up on mailing lists. And who designed that ridiculous startup screen, some 12 year old aspiring cartoonist you found on deviantart? Very unprofessional. But then, they've sacrificed a lot of integrity over the last several years by looking the other way in the face of some truly heinous PUPs.
