And that's a wrap! [S5 finale spoilers]
Posted 10 years agoDarn. At least a whole year since the last post. Life, ya know? I could have posted a journal somewhere during season 5, it just didn't happen. Not sure if anyone needs any summary posts about episodes from me anyway. So many people who make those, and a lot better then I could as well. Still, seems a bit slacking to not have made a single post during an entire season. And honestly? I am not sure how much that is going to change during season 6, whenever that will start.
I could hold a long spiel, but simply put, we are running out of drinking water. Err, I mean, I don't have the obsession with the show I used to have, and besides the every-day responsibilities my focus on what I do in my free time has shifted. That has been the same for the others for years now I assume, doesn't seem anyone logged on during season 5. So, ya know, don't expect much activity from this group any more (I am sure most of you didn't already anyway).
Having said all that, its still a hobby for me, and I am sure I will be watching season 6, EQG4 an the pony movie in 2017. I am also pretty sure I will still attend at least one Pony con next year. So who knows, might randomly log on again at some point. *Shrugs*
Anyway, season 5. As with previous seasons, I am sure we all have our favourite episodes and episodes we liked less. New characters to either love or hate (or anything in between). For me, it was a fun season. The days where I watched every episode many, many times are long gone and I no longer need to see the episode as soon as it comes out. I did watch em all though, and I can look back with fondness on the 5th season. Just don't expect me to win any trivia contest. The season finale... again, there are going to be different opinions about the plot, Starlight's motivation, her redemption, characterization of the ponies involved, etc etc. I hope that we can agree on one thing though: It was a great callback to the previous seasons. I loved seeing so many familiar faces again. For that alone its very much worth watching I think. And how far we've come. Remember the "war" between the buffalo and the settler ponies from "Over a Barrel" from season 1 (Little Strongheart still best one-shot character btw)? Today we saw an actual war that, even if its still very much simplified, showed us a lot of facets that come with it. Armies, drafting, war preparations, manufacture, supply chains... Maybe its me, but if I look at the Sombra bit and then recall the pie-fights in Over a Barrel... Different cup of coffee if you ask me.
Well then... Gonna be a while until more Hasbro-approved new pony stuff folks. Looking at my little country, the fandom is evolving. The average age is going down, and older bronies often are or have been forming small groups that avoid the main community and instead keep to themselves. Could be just here could be everywhere. As always, I am curious what the future will bring, how the fandom will change, and what will happen to ponies. No promises when/if I will post again, but I am sure no one cares and we all have our own communities anyway, right?
Cheers folks. May you find joy in life, be that through ponies or anything else ^^

News, glorious news!
Posted 11 years agoNo, I can't tell you yet when Season Five starts (though I can't imagine that bombshell will take too much longer to arrive). Those who frequently visit EDQ will have already seen it, but we will more then likely have pony in 2017. Of course we know that there are hints that the show will run for at least another five seasons (or at least years), but this is something else. Of course, we all know about Equestria girls and we all have our opinion about it. We even have part two now, which I understand a lot of people liked, more so then the first one (I am still holding out hope it will arrive in theatres in my little country at some point, so I haven't seen it yet). However, one of the most heard musings when the first movie was originally announced was: "Humans? What? Why not a normal pony movie? With ponies?"
Well, apparently that is on the way:

Ah, a glorious two years (or more) to hype this movie up, what could possibly go wrong? Seriously though, are you excited? I'm excited. What would you like a "proper" pony movie to be about? Discuss!

Season four episode 25/26 (finale) [spoilers]

Rarity, if you would?
Thank you.
By Celestia's beard, how was that for a finale? I am seriously speechless. And I can say that since I am typing this. The first episode was mostly build-up. Was awesome to see all three princesses sing to Twilight. I am sad to say I got spoiled when it came to Tirek, which was a bit of a bummer. For those of you who didn't know beforehand I can only pray you knew who he was and what a treat it was to see him. This is MLP and arguably FiM is at times a bit tamer maybe then some of the G1 stuff, but even in the FiM setting Tirek is pretty damn scary (ya know, relatively speaking). If you consider Discord's powers, he should be one of the most powerful creatures in Equestria and beyond. And Tirek just steals his powers as if its nothing. Very interesting to notice though that Discord's eyes didn't change. I wonder if the staff will do anything with that in season 5. Maybe not, but it definitely made me go "huh". Most of the ponies seem to be stuck in place where they were attacked by Tirek, although the Element Bearers and Discord seem a lot more lively still. That's probably nothing more then convenient storytelling though. Discord's Mary Poppin's entrance was, for me at least, also a highlight.
Anyway. episode 26. I am, as I have said before, an avid FiM fanfic reader. Quite a few fics have used the idea of one of the alicorns hiding or giving up their power(s). I have yet to read one where they don't loose their wings, horn, or both. Quite a visual spectacle when they give their powers to Twilight, but I was surprised to see them still with their horn and wings. Goes to show you how fanon can change your perspective. Discord's betrayal... Well, it drove the plot forward. Its Discord, so sure, why not? The scene with Fluttershy was well done, poor gal. His comeuppance comes fairly quickly. In a way it can make sense he didn't see it coming. He probably hasn't really been in the position to be betrayed before. It hurts a bit to see how easily he is overcome, I feel like he has no reason to allow that to happen. But whatever. It will be interesting to see what the fandom makes off his apparent former history with Tirek. Tirek obviously knows him. Up until this point, the episodes have been, for me at least, very entertaining with a compelling story.
And then... Forgive me for coining this phrase, but I can't help myself. Holy shit... The show goes completely Avatar: The Last Airbender on us. (I could also maybe say DBZ, but buck that, TLA is soooo much better :P). The library gets destroyed, which I am sure for many of was actually pretty monumental. That building has been with us since episode one. It kinda hurts that it's gone to be honest. Very nice to see the animators and writers having the time to take Owlowiscious into account. And then the proper fighting starts. I was blown away. We got a bit of a taste with the flashback in the season opening when we saw the fight between Luna and Celestia, but this... It was brief and suffered some limitation because of the show in question, maybe, but daaaayum... That was a seriously good action sequence, and as far as I'm concerned unlike anything we have seen in the show before. Just... friggin wow.
So Twilight gives up her powers for her friends (which admittedly was probably a very stupid and selfish thing to do, but who cares and also I doubt anyone didn't see that coming a mile away), Discord gives her the final key, the box is opened and the Mane Six turn Super Saiyan level 2 (see? I can save the DBZ thing for this scene). Tirek is defeated, we get some pretty cool nod-backs to the ponies of the Key episodes, we see Cerberus again. Twilight gets a new home, they all power down again (and for me personally, that was a "thank Celestia for that!" moment :P) and they now have Palace Tree with a throne for each of them. Even Spike, and again, thank Celestia for that. Fluttershy's remark towards Discord was welcome as well. Twilight knows her purpose now (and I personally think its a very good one) and we have the final song where Spike sadly doesn't have a part in, but meh. Nitpicking.
This finale has got me so, so hyped for Season 5. I have never stopped enjoying the show, but the enthusiasm had dwindled a bit. But this could definitely be a turning point, where they can really pump some fresh energy into the show. Certainly seems what they are going for, and in my opinion it would not be a bad thing at all. There are always things I can nitpick about (and I even did once or twice here), but as far as I'm concerned the finale lived up to the hype and then some.
Ok, two more things. One: if anyone has any ideas for the group during the season draught, by all means, let us know. If not, I might post a journal once or twice, but for the most part its probably going to be quiet until the opening of season five.
Secondly, and before I bit you all adieu for now, a moment of silence please.

Season four episode 19-24+upcoming season finale [spoilers].
Posted 11 years agoWow.. Can't believe I haven't said anything since episode 18. Sorry guys. Feel free to discuss any episodes inbetween 18 and now. Which of those did you like, and which of those didn't you like? Why is this so? Did you have at least one apple fritter for breakfast this morning?
Anyway, we finally got to the Equestria Games episode. I wonder how many of you are dissappointed with how little of the Games we actually saw? Personally I didn't care, it was great to see our Spike getting some love. He is actually a hero in teh Crystal Empire, little guy deserves some love if you ask me. I was so glad they didn't go the "should I tell Spike or not?" route with Twilight. Also glad they didn't go the "fame going to his head" route with Spike. I thought that even at the beginning he didn't get too braggy. That anthem though, that was just painful to watch. Poor, poor Spike...
And then when he gets to be a hero again, he 's all like "I just did what I had to do, anyone else would have done the same." Cool to see, although I am trying to figure out for myself if that is a character trait we see very often in Spike. Chap certainly comes through when ponies need him to, and in general he doesn't get too braggy about things I don't think. His Dragon Code certainly fits in this picture. Whatever the case, its good to see Spike being able to do some good again for a change. About time, show writers :)
And now we have once again arrived at the point were we only have one more week with pony to look forward to before the next draught inbetween seasons. But the goods news is, there is going to be another draught inbetween seasons. If you asked me back when season one was airing if I thought we'd reach season 5, I'd have said no. Yet here we are. And we also have Equestria Girls 2 to look forward to. I know not everyone will, but I belong to the "yay!" crowd myself. So what are everyone's plans for the finale? Going to watch it in a stream? Alone? With a/some friend(s)? Hire a room and a big-ass projector and just go crazy with tons of bronies? Lemme know!

Season four, episode 18 [Spoilers]
Posted 11 years agoMy favourite episode has always been (and probably always will be) Look Before You Sleep. As far as I'm concerned that was as close to the perfect slice of life episode as the show has gotten since it started. I feel that all three characters in the episode are portrayed perfectly and all three grew in that episode because of it. Two ponies who, at this point in time, hang out mainly because of a mutual friend but who don't really see eye to eye on a lot of things are forced to hang out with aforementioned friend. That's it. The entire episode builds on the characters of these three ponies and how their characters work out in this setting. And it's more than enough.
Grand adventuring is great and all, but I love slice of life. We have had some slice of life episodes and we have had some slice of life moments that were really great as well. One example was in the Season three opener. Rainbow Dash's "It's just a castle" comment, Rarity's reaction to that and AJ's and Rainbows reaction to that. And then in the second episode, AJ's "Nice things are more special if they remain a Rarity." Or something, I know it's not the exact quote. It's not necessary for the episode. It really doesn't add anything to it. But it adds so, so much to the characters. It really shows how much they have grown as a group of friends. It's a couple of seconds each, but they are some of my favourite moments of the show and I wish we would see more of that.
Anyway, in comes Maud Pie. And its so deliciously slice of life. Pinkie has her older sister visiting, a pony she always looked up to and who has always been there for her, and she wants her friends to love her as much as she does, and her to love her friends as much as she does. That's it. And it's more than enough. There wasn't a single moment where I thought "this could have been done better" or "that was unnecessary" or something that bothered me. There really weren't any moments that made me go "Oh My Gosh, that was the best thing ever!" either, but there didn't need to be any. The episode doesn't try to be anything it is not, and does everything it needs to do. In my opinion, we haven't seen a slice of life episode like this in a while. I don't think it's quite as strong as Look Before You Sleep, but it might very well be the second best when it comes to slice of life for this show. For me, without a doubt, the best episode of the season so far.
Maud Pie herself... Yeah, I digged her. A lot. And anyone else who was reminded of the Squirrel family from Rocko's Modern Life?
So. who loved this episode as much as I did. and who prefers the more grand episodes? Discuss! You know, if you want.

Season four episode 17 [Spoilers]
Posted 11 years agoSo... Yeah. Breezies happened.
I don't have much to say about the episode. Twas a decent one. Nothing too great, but certainly not bad.
So let's talk Breezies. What did y'all think? They worked for me. Sure, they're cute and all, but that made up language is what did it for me. And Sea Breeze, what a voice. Love it. Love it, love it, love it.
Well, ok, one little thing about the ep... I don't know what to think of the mane six going Breezy. Obviously we can expect toys there, that is what that was for. And I didn't mind seeing the world of the breezies, that was nice. But I don't know, I think that for me that was the biggest "Oh yeah, they do this to sell toys" moment in the show so far.
Eh, nitpicking. So yeah. Breezies best pony, or should they just Breeze right on along? Let me know what you think.

Season 4 episode 12 (or episode 77) [SPOILERS!]
Posted 11 years agoI like 7. Its one of my lucky numbers, and this ep has two. Once again, 7 didn't let me down.
So... The big news of the episode, let's get that out of the way first. Little Strongheart was back! I don't really care about anything else! I mean, that one guy was there and stuff, but... Little Strongheart!
Ok, ok. I really do like Little Strongheart and it was awesome to see her again. Its actually quite surprising we saw her return before Gilda (if that will ever happen) even if she did not have a speaking role. But yeah... Let's get the real big one out of the way. I can imagine some people do not care much for the idea of Weird All in the show. And some people will think its fantastic. Personally, I am not the biggest fan of Weird Al, but I like the guy and his work enough. I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon, but I did want to see what the ep would be like before I formed an opinion. And I have to say, they might have been able to use Al a bit better maybe, but not by much if at all. You can tell how much fun he had with this.
The goof off was fantastic. The whole episode was just a blast from start to finish (well, maybe after Pinkie's somewhat quick sad-jealousy phase, I wouldn't have minded to see that given a bit more time. But meh, nitpicking), but the goof off was one of the highlights. Real life Gummy... That just cracked me up. The songs were all very good all the way up to great. "Make a wish, it's your birthday", that line... I can listen to it all day.
So, let's talk a bit about "fan service." One of the bronies I see on a more regular basis has the habit of shouting "fan service" quite a bit. Rarity gets a wet mane? Fan service. A reference to something that happened in an earlier episode? Fan service. Some pony sneezes? Fanservice (well, not really. but you know). That annoys me. Not everything is fanservice. One of the things I love so much about this show is, if there is such a thing as fanservice in it, its always rather subtle. I can not explain how much I loved to see BonBon with a saddlebag with a lyre for a clasp, or Derpy with one with a muffin clasp. For the people who know what its about its great, those who don't know won't even notice. Its charming and doesn't disrupt the flow of the show at all. The filly versions of some of our beloved background characters today might not have been quite that subtle, but again, wouldn't disrupt the flow of the show. So we got filly Cheerilee, filly Derpy (I know so many people went bat-shit crazy over that), filly Lyra and Bon Bon (the latter of which was wearing Twist-style glasses which I thought was adorable) and if that really was filly Colgate with braces, then... Fan-friggin-tastic. People might say that this isn't actually fan service, but I doubt it would have happened without the fandom. It is clear that the staff has a rather large pool of background fillies and colts, but they instead redrew some of the adult background ponies (they already had Cheerilee for that, but still). Interesting to see Berry still as an adult though, I know some people like the idea of her and Cheerilee being sisters. I guess she is the older one in that case.
Regardless of you like Weird Al in the show or not, you can't deny how much fun the crew obviously had with this. Personally, I had an incredible amount of fun with the ep as well. So, share your thoughts :)

The news we have all been waiting for!
Posted 11 years agoFor those of you who haven't seen it yet on EQD, Season 5 has been confirmed!
https://webcache.googleusercontent......-stephen-davis
This is of course not completely surprising, but we can never be sure until we actually here it. I for one am stoked. As interesting as it will be to learn what will happen to the fandom once the show stops running, I am in no hurry to find out. I am still enjoying Season Four (last episode was the best one so far this season in my opinion) and all the meet-ups and such I attend are a blast. I don't think I will be able to experience the American convention scene any-time soon, but the European convention scene is fun enough. To be able to look forward to at least another year of all that? Yes please!
So... I am not much for the youtube thingy where people loop a short clip over and over again for an hour or more, but in this case I think its appropriate. So have Fluttershy go "Yay" for an hour (as the Wooden Toaster thing though, so be warned if that is not your thing).
Pony on people! For at least another season :)

Happy Holidays everyone! And season four so far (spoilers).
Posted 12 years agoHearts Warming Eve over in Equestria I suppose. So how many of you are expecting ponies under the tree? I could try and write a long and heart-warming speech... But who'd want that? I hope you lot have some great days with friends and/or family ahead of you. If there are any out there for whom that is not possible, I hope the coming days will bring you something to be happy about.
I know I haven't been posting much, but I feel there isn't much to post about. The writing has taken an interesting direction. It seems that we are getting some more cartoon clichés. The haunting house episode, the getting sucked into a story episode. Regardless, I'm still having fun, I just don't think there has been a reason to make a journal yet so far, really.
But heck, feel free to share your plans for the holidays, and your own thoughts about the episodes so far. I will say, for myself, Dash hiding behind her wings was friggin adorable, and I would be one of the folks who thought Flutterhulk was awesome (although I can totally understand if you disagree).
Bit of an uninspired post this, huh? Go watch the latest Flufflepuff animation. Unless you dislike her, you will probably like it ^^

So how about that season opening huh? [SPOILERS]
Posted 12 years ago... Wow.
They sure pulled out all the stops for this one. As per usual, I will give my take on the episodes and then open the floor for everyone else.
The opening was interesting. Not surprisingly, it goes a bit into what Twilight's new status means for her and her friends and how they all deal with it. Not much to say about it in general. It makes sense to address it and it was handled well. I loved the little conversation between Twilight and Celestia. It wasn't much, but it was very nice to see a bit more off Celestia's thoughts and feelings. It must indeed have sucked to celebrate the fact that you banished your own sister every year for a thousand years. The very first episode and we get Luna (not that surprisingly) and Zecora. As well as Big Macs' first "Eeeyups!" and "Nopes!" of the season. Loved that scene myself. And of course, the big guy himself, Discord.
As I probably mentioned before, I am not the biggest Discord fan. I certainly don't dislike the character, but I do feel he wasn't handled that well in his previous appearances. In the season 2 opening he was very menacing and for the most part a great character, but I am one of those who are of the opinion that the ending was very rushed. Didn't do the character much good. In "Keep Calm and Flutter On", he seemed way to tame to me. Almost none of the menace was left. Of course, there was the thread of him being turned back to stone, but... And the switch between manipulative and "reformed" happened way to quickly. As many others have said, would probably have worked better as a two parter.
But man oh man, did they nail him now. This is what a reformed Discord should be like. He has decided this whole friendship malarkey is worth the trouble of reigning things in a bit, but that doesn't mean he can't have some fun, does it? He has found a way to deal with things that suits him and it does feel like he is constantly testing how far he can go. I loved his performance.
Anyway, the potion thing was a bit random. Didn't diminish the episode for me, but it does feel as if maybe they could have come up with something better. Still, nitpicking and it leads us to the flashbacks. Nightmare Moon. Holy... Remember what she was like in the second episode? I guess a thousand years on the moon must have been hard on her if she went from "magical unicorn death laser" to "put thorn in Manticore's paw." How bad-ass was that scene? Arguably the most interesting of the flashbacks. It doesn't completely rule it out, but it does make it more unlikely that there was a civil war before Luna's banishment. There certainly was no indication of anything like that here, the transformation just happened. The flashback with Discord seems to me more uninteresting. The one thing I can take out of it was that it seems Luna and Celestia were able to gather more power from the elements then the Mane Six, looking at how fast Discord was turned to stone here in comparison with the season 2 opening. Then again, different Elements in the first place.
Which brings me to the next flashback and the reason I said Nightmare Moon's was "arguably" the most interesting one. Because the elements we saw Luna and Celestia use and the ones we see them take from the tree look nothing like the Elements the Girls find in the second episode of the first season. That is interesting. Does that mean the writers simply ignored that, did they somehow change into those round stones, or have there actually been at least three different sets of Elements? I'm probably looking to deeply into this, but it does intrigue me.
The girls head into the forest and find the crocodile (they do say crocodile right? I kinda want them to say Rockodile, but...) and then we get the discussion between Twilight and the rest of the girls. And to me, it makes sense. In that very situation, Twilight has a responsibility. As (possibly) the only Princess within short distance of the Equestrian capital, Equestria's needs should come before her's and her friends. It could have maybe be handled a bit better if they went a bit more deeply into that aspect, but they pretty much say exactly that. Of course, this is a kids show so that doesn't go as far as it could have gone.
Twilight encounters Discord again. And I can't help but feel that Discord is actually helping Twilight here, in his own way. He uses a mocking tone to do it, but he does send her back to the forest. From the conclusion we know he knows what is going on, so to me it looks like this is his way to help Twilight with her "Princess lesson" as he calls it.
They save the tree, we get a little heartfelt moment between the three princesses, and we get the Mystery Box. Very promising indeed. Looks like we will see a bit of a storyline throughout season four, more then a middle episode about how to make a dress. If that really is the case I am sure most of us will welcome that. We also loose the Elements, which I think is a good thing. You don't want to do the same thing to many times. Personal note, it made me think of the Power Rangers. Bit of a "OMG, they are getting new Zords" moment. But I digress. Whether or not we will see a larger storyline remains to be seen, but I will be fine either way. And I am sure we will get some slice of life one shots regardless. And that pretty much is it, other then learning that Discord does not do windows and Twilight's part of the Celebration is pretty cool.
I am very curious to see what next week will bring. Will we head straight for the Mystery Box or will we get a breather and see how Twilight handles things now, assuming she still lives in Ponyville, in a one-shot? Time will tell. As far as I'm concerned, this was a fantastic opening. I can find very little to flaw it with. Enjoyed it very much from beginning to end and I am certainly looking forward to the rest of the season. How about all of you? Share your thoughts.

OMC Season 4 is almost here!
Posted 12 years agoI have been extremely busy last week... I wanted to do some kind of countdown thing for the final week, but there just wasn't any time. However, a journal one day before the season starts is mandatory. I myself am not climbing the walls, but I am quite happy and excited to see what tomorrow is going to bring. We will be watching the season opening with a 100+ bronies. This has upsides and downsides of course. The main upside being that watching with other bronies is so much more fun (in my opinion anyway) and the biggest downside being that you are bound to miss things in the episode. Bronies tend to be loud when they are excited.
So, what are peoples plans? Will you watch the episodes tomorrow? If so, with mates? A lot? Just a friend? And how excited are you?
It was a long, long wait, but I for one have little doubt it will be totally worth it. Have a great fourth season everypony :)

Discussion: Which one shot character should get another ep?
Posted 12 years agoEQD was asking for ideas for a discussion post. I submitted the following: "A one shot character gets another episode that shows more background info. Which one shot character would you like to see and why?" Or something along those lines anyway. They replied that it was interesting in combination with something else... And what do they ask? "Which side character should come back and become an alicorn."
Euch. Really EQD? You still on the whole alicorn thing? Shouldn't we be passed that by now? But hey, you know what? I happen to be able to post a journal in a MLP fangroup on FA and I can ask the question just the way I want it! And I will! I think the question is interesting enough on its own without throwing in the alicorn hook, so... Which one shot character would you like to see return to get some more background info and why? For the record, with one shot characters I refer to characters that appeared only in one episode and had a speaking role. So, Gilda, Little Strongheart, the fanon-named Steven Magnet, miss Harshwhinny and so on and so forth. Discuss!

Season 4, this group and other things. Lets discuss.
Posted 12 years agoGooooooooood day everypony. Or everyone for those who cringe at that whole everypony shtick. Did I spell that right? Whatever. Its been a long time, hasn't it? 7 months ago since the last journal. I guess I am really the only one of us who posts these, even if rarely. However, slowly but surely we are crawling towards November. And of course we had a tweet from one of the writers, for those who saw it. Or was it a composer? Either way, I'm psyched.
So, as per usual, lets open the floor a bit. First of all, how is everyone managing the draught so far? I myself go to many brony meets, usually in the weekend. I still read a lot of pony fanfiction. I admit I haven't been re-watching episodes as much as I used to, although I did today. Still check EQD at least once a day though. I've been to one convention, Galacon, and it was a lot of fun. Even though the social aspect is part of what keeps me active (fanfiction is another large part), I am still looking forward to new episodes very much indeed. How is it for you lot? I assume if you are reading this you are still interested in some way(s), but has the love for ponies diminished a bit? Is it still the same? Has it maybe increased even? And what have you been doing pony-wise since the last journal?
We already discussed what people are looking forward too for season four, and that has probably not changed. We also discussed Alicorn Twilight. I had a realization today. I have seen her so much in the past months in fanfiction, art, comics etc... I seem to already be used to her. I did watch the season 3 finale again just now, and she still looks silly with them to me in that first shot. It seems to be less weird-looking when she is wearing her regalia for some reason. So I am curious, am I alone in this? Are some of you out there feeling different about this then 7 months ago?
Finally, let's talk about the group again. Obviously, we aren't very active. I had notes in my inbox that hadn't been opened in six months (sorry note writers). There are four of us, and still this happened. I see at least some art was added by one of us, so that's good. But I am wondering what to do here. I am going to try and check the group weekly (did I promise that before already? I hope not) so that at least I can reply to people in a somewhat timely fashion. And if I can come up with things to talk about, I'll make a new journal. I was thinking, maybe some people would like to share their opinions on pony stuff? If you write something and note me I could maybe make a journal about it.
I had some other ideas, but to be honest, I doubt I have the time to actually come through with them. Maybe at a later time, when life isn't so hectic. In the meantime, as always, pony on and before you know it we will be discussing what happened in season four.

And thus another season came and went (SPOILERS)
Posted 12 years agoWell then.... Once again we find each other at the beginning of another pony draught. Canon wise at least, of course all the fanon stuff will keep pouring out. As far as I'm concerned it was another fun season, as always with ups and downs (and of course the ups and downs depend on which brony you ask :)).
Lets start with the finale. Ignoring the whole "Twilight is now an Alicorn" bit, in my opinion it wasn't the strongest episode of the season. It feels as if the writers had to push too much stuff in 20 minutes. I probably have to watch it a couple of more times to really form an opinion (first impressions usually change pretty quickly), but as some of you may already be aware Megan McCarthy (hope I spelled that right) already tweeted that this was sort of the first episode of a continuing story spanned over three episodes. I assume that means the story will continue with the season four starter. And that season four will once again begin with a two-parter (which wouldn't surprise me, since it will supposedly be a full 26 episodes season again). Anyway, that means we will have to wait for quite some time to see where things go before I feel I can really form an opinion about the season finale. I will say this though: Liquid pride? That was simply brilliant.
So then... Lets maybe open the floor a bit here. Firstly, what are peoples thoughts on season 3? Favourite episode, song, scene, whatever? Least favourites? General thoughts?
For me, this season had several very good episodes, but out of those none really stood out, so I don't think I could name a favourite episode. I loved Sleepless in Ponyville, wanted to see some bonding between Scoots and Rainbow for a while now. I have been rooting for a pet episode since season one, so Just for Sidekicks was great. The season opening.... Loved it. Loved it to bits. Heck, lets make those two my favourite eps. I'm such a flip-flop. It was great to see Trixie again, but the episode itself, while fun, wasn't as great as some of the others. I don't think a particular song stood out to me. No Winter Wrap Ups, Smile Smile Smile's or This Day Aria's in this season.
Least favourite ep... Keep Calm and Flutter On. I'm a Fluttershy fan, but yeah. I was never a big fan of Discord, but he seemed to be already tamed even before Fluttershy started her attempts to befriend him. Seriously, where was the menacing God of Chaos from the season two opening? Ah well, I still had fun watching the ep. Just had more fun with all the others.
Secondly, what are peoples hopes for season four?
I want to see Gilda again. If Discord can get a redemption episode, then surely Gilda can as well? And I don't think its too far fetched to be honest. Also: Little Strongheart. I feel the little buffalo is severely underrated, and personally I love the character. That does seem far fetched though. Also... Yeah, I admit it. I am not to keen on Alicorn Twilight, so I wouldn't mind if they reversed it somehow. Definitely does not seem as if that is going to happen though. A mothers day episode would be great. We finally saw at least one of Rainbows parents, but that still leaves at least Fluttershy and Scootaloo. Maybe we can even see the Apple's families parents in a flashback scene. And Spike, who knows where his parents are? And for the ponies of which we have already seen their parents, I would love to see some bonding.
Maybe some history with Luna and Celestia? Or just some more bonding between them as well.
Thirdly, what are people's plans during the season gap? Draw? Write? Read? Anything else? How about conventions? I might be trying to go to Galacon again, although financially its a bit... Well, we will see.
Ever since I became a fan of the show somewhere at the end of January in 2011, I have been saying that I would be very happy if we reached three seasons. Now we are already heading for a fourth. I can't wait to see what it will bring, in the meantime I will be enjoying what we already have and, without a doubt, create many more fond memories with bronies while doing so. You're all crazy, but I love ya none the less. Keep having fun, keep the charities going for those who can and as always, lets see where this ride takes us next.

Some very nice pony art on Ebay (and something to discuss)
Posted 13 years agoOk, I am the first to admit this is perhaps going to open up a can of worms. But I will get into that in a bit. I have chosen to link these auctions for reasons that should become clear if you actually look at them. Having said that, I ask you to bid on these because you like them. I personally find the artist to be very talented and I really love some of these. If people out there feel the same, that should be reason enough to bid. Here are the auctions:

Now, to get back to the can of worms. We do get people asking to make journals about conventions, art streams, art sales and all that good stuff. I kinda ignored this so far, but since I am doing this now, its only fair others get the chance as well. So here is what I was thinking. Once a week I will try to make a compilation journal of all kinds of events that people send me a note about. Commissions streams (or commissions in general), conventions, meet-ups, art sales, auctions etc etc. Keyword being try. I will probably do this on Sundays. I am bound to forget every now and then, but I'll do my best. So send me your notes with whatever you want mentioned and use "Compilation journal" as the subject. Sounds like a plan? Good. Also, feel free to comment if you think this is a bad idea as well.

Episode discussion: Season 3 episode 5 (Spoilers inside)
Posted 13 years agoWell then. I am a bit pissed. The "big surprise" was sorta ruined way back in season 2, and then sometime last week I unwillingly found out it was going to be this weeks episode. Well, what are you going to do? Its almost impossible to avoid spoilers completely, unless you are willing to avoid the bigger pony websites completely. Heck, even if I had managed that the folks at bronystate who feel the need to chat over every episode the Hub shows before the new one would have ruined it for me.
The reason I am saying all this is that I would have probably thought differently about the episode if it had come as a complete surprise. I think those days are over though... The days of "OMG Derpy speaks that is the best thing ever!" At least for the bigger names within the fandom.
Ehhh, enough about that. On to the episode. So yes, Trixie returns. As someone who reads a lot of fanfics (and I mean a lot), the plot wasn't that surprising. That's not a bad thing by any means though, I thought they handled it well. I am getting a bit a head of things though. Lets start with the opening. Interesting little shop. We have no clue where it is. How did the shopkeep come into possession of such a powerful artifact? Of course the episode doesn't go into it, but I am curious to see what the community is going to do with this. We cut back to Twilight and Fluttershy. Fluttershy's "So help me"... Loved it. Loved it to bits. One wonders though why Twilight struggles so much with htis spell. You'd think after levitating an Ursa Minor and a Water Tower filled with milk a couple of forest critters wouldn't be much of an issue. But Twilight's magic doesn't really follow any particular rhyme or reason anyway.
Then, we see Candy Mane. Well, we see her mane, anyway. I suspect that doesn't mean a lot to many of you, but she is my favourite background pony so I was pleased :) We go with vengeful Trixie for her little story, but.. .man. She worked on the Pie's Rock Farm? Didn't see that one coming. Kinda awesome though. I can't wait for the fanfics on that one. And its good to see some of the parents of the mane six returning. Hopefully that means we get to see some new ones as well. I'd love to see Fluttershy's parents. We see Pinkie losing her mouth (in a way which might be a wink to Fairly Odd Parents, although I wouldn't be surprised if that scene in FoP was a wink to something else). Pinkie not being able to eat her treats is rather sad.
One thing I have to give Trixie though... She could just throw Twi out right away, but she does give her a chance by demanding a duel. Its not much, but its interesting to note I think. Even if she has no doubt she is going to win. Th duel itself wasn't that action packed. But apparently Twilight is a summoner now. That's quite something. Well, a summoner of creatures anyway. Can't help but wonder if she creates them on the spot, or if she simply teleports them from somewhere and then teleport them back. Fun stuff for a ponified D&D at any rate. The aging spell is very interesting though. Its good to see Twilight not being able to do a spell, and to know there is still stuff for her to learn. In fact, later on in the ep we learn that there are spells that she might never learn. Her magic has been a bit ridiculous for a while now, so its good she gets pulled back a little. It is also implied that there are more powerful unicorns then Twilight, which is also good to know.
And then, Zecora's back for her first season 3 appearance. I'm a big Zecora fan, and I didn't know about that, so that was a great moment for me. Her rhyming was pretty good as well. The training session follows, with a couple of winks to a certain other universe far, far away. Fluttershy gets ignored, something that happens a bit to much in my opinion, but whatever. It gives us some adorable 'Shy. "I'll snap like a twig!" was great voice work from Andrea.
Snips and Snails get bullied around a bit. And Trixie still is helpful to a couple of beavers, guess she isn't that far gone yet. Don't know if the "dangerous mission outfit" is a reference or not. And 'Shy has Teddy Bear. Kinda wanna see that. And Zecora is done teaching Twilight. Kinda disappointed that, actually, but I have no doubt our favourite Zebra still has plenty of other advice to give in future episodes. A bit of reverse psychology from Twilight and we have the duel part 2. I find this to be rather genious-like. Its great to see some of our favourite characters painted as other characters. And with the statue its also believable. The eyes are curious though. Coloured contacts?
The amulet comes of and we don't see much change in Trixie. Guess the effect takes some time to wear of, even after the amulet has been removed. Trixie walks of and for a moment I thought we'd leave it at that. We do see her again though, rushed as it is, I'm glad we do, if only to confirm that the amulet was effecting her. Will she be back? I wouldn't be surprised, time will tell. We finish with Twi and Pinkie, and I laughed my head off.
One great thing about this episode is that it opens doors for other one shot characters to come back. None of us know how long FiM will run, but the way its going it doesn't seem logical for it to stop any time soon. I have very little doubt we will see Gilda again at some point. If not in this season, then another. And as a Little Strongheart fan, I am even a little bit more hopeful there (although that still seems unlikely). A very solid episode in my opinion, and one of those rarer ones where we don't really get a moral at the end of it.
So, your thoughts? Discuss!

Gameloft Live and the My Little Pony game account exchanges
Posted 13 years agoI don't like Apple. I never have. Expensive and unwilling to go beyond there in-house product line with anything, software or hardware. Sure, makes sense financially I suppose. But it annoys the heck out of me. No, I own an Android and its always done me right. Right now though... Euch... you lucky, lucky people with your Iphones and Ipads and all that other overpriced nonsense...
Anyway, that's either here nor there. I'm sure a lot of us are playing the game and are enjoying it immensely. Hihi! Derpy just flew into a mountain <3 ...Where was I? Oh, right. Well, there are already quite a few places to share accounts, including Equestria Daily, but why not also do it here? So for those of you who want, share your account details, especially if BON-BON STOP TALKING WITH BIG MAC!! You're with Lyra! I put your houses next to each other for a reason!...What was I saying? Oh, right. Feel free to share your account details, especially if you use Facebook like all us poor Android sods are forced to do. And even if that's buggy as hell as well. I need Facebook buddies darn it! The hearts demand it! I need Scootaloo!
Apple Bloom, time to catch some apples! No slacking off on my watch missy!

Some general stuff. Also, season 3 is here! [SPOILERS]
Posted 13 years agoAaaand we are back folks! Ok, lets get some stuff out of the way first. What is the purpose of this group, exactly? None of us are really sure what to do with it. Myself, I consider it a way to maybe post a little bit of info whenever something comes up that I find worthy of mentioning. Maybe discuss the episodes at times. But mostly, just a group you can join and who's icon you can put on your profile page to show your love of the show. We get a lot of requests from people to add some of their work to our gallery. Thing is, we wouldn't want to be picky, and none of us really have the time to spend a lot of time each day adding stuff to our gallery. People who have send the group a note will have noticed this. Our apologies.
So yeah. If you want to "join" the group, give us a watch and maybe add the groups icon on your profile page if you want. That's it, really. Its all basically just a bit of fun. Which is part of what the whole brony thing is about, isn't it?
So anyway, time to get into the [SPOILERS]. Season 3, episodes one and two. Not a lot of complaints here. We have a talking Luna, some great interaction between the mane six (especially Rarity, AJ and RD), a fun story and some great foreshadowing for things to come. Maybe even beyond season 3, maybe related to whatever else they are working on? Pure speculation on my part, but well see. We also have the return of Shining Armor and Cadence. As much as they were shoe-horned in, I think its nice to see more of them. If they can give them some depth, I don't mind. Love and Tolerate and all that good stuff.
Three songs... Could maybe have done with one or two songs less. They were rather short, and we have seen better songs. Not that they were bad, enjoyed them enough. Villain was... Well. By far the weakest villain we have seen so far I think, when it comes to the two-parters. But I don't think the story suffered because of it. All in all, a very solid opening of the season which gives plenty of opportunities for the remaining episodes. Are you excited? Cause I'm excited. I don't think I have ever been so excited! Except maybe for that time when season 2 started, but really, who can top that? So, share your thoughts. And for those of you who haven't seen the episode yet, why are you still reading this? And beware of the comments :P

Upcoming cons and who's going where?
Posted 13 years agoWith the seasonal gap, thankfully there are upcoming cons aplenty. I am not quite sure of all of them, but I am sure the people who are going are. There is of course Bronycon which is getting close indeed. Everfree Northwest I believe, not a clue when that is. For the Europeans, we have the Grand Galloping Gala in Stuttgart, Germany and Brony Con UK in the... well, UK. Might be nice to see how many of our soldiers go where. Could also be a a way to organize a meet-up at the cons.
As a European, Bronycon isn't really feasible for me. I'll almost definitely be there in Stuttgart though, and I might also be there in the UK. So, who is going where?

And with that, season 2 ends...
Posted 13 years agoBut not the show thankfully! As always there will be people who will be disappointed with the season final. That is inevitable. But I hope most of you are like me, and loved every single minute of it. What a way to end on a high note! I won't go into any detail right now, so no spoilers from me. But I won't discourage them from the comments, so be wary of those if you haven't seen the final two episodes yet.
Of course, now most of us will be on such a pony high that the season gap might be looming over us like... a swarm of parasprites. Or manticores. A lot of us will have gone through it before. And of course, its not that problematic. If your biggest problem is a lack of new pony episodes, you are a very lucky individual indeed. The community will provide enough content to bridge the gap. Whether its music, animation, art, fiction... Last gap we actually saw a large increase of the community, oddly enough. By now the internet seems pretty saturated with pony. Most people will have heard of the brony phenomenon. So perhaps that won't happen again. Of course, we still have new people finding they enjoy the show every day.
So yes, for those who care for the community and some of its productions, there is always new stuff going on. Brony meets will be organised all over the world, season gap or not. There will be conventions. And even if you don't care that much for the anything the community produces... You can always rewatch the episodes. Again. And again. And again. That's what I did during the gap between season one and two.
Perhaps some of you will loose interest during the seasonal gap. That is fine of course. But I hope that most of us will keep the buzz going. I know I will. I daresay all four of us will. And when season three starts, we will be right here at the front line. In the meantime, there are meets and conventions all over the place, I will probably be at The Grand Galloping Gala convention in Germany myself. The never ending stream of everything the community makes will also continue. Pony on my friends. May the show provides us entertainment for a long while yet.

PMV spotlight
Posted 13 years agoI don't know if people are waiting for this kind of stuff. I mean, if you are like me, you check EqD constantly throughout the day anyway. If your are big on pony music and/or PMV's you probably already saw this as well. Would this be something people would like? Spotlights of stuff one of us four found and really liked? Heck, I might be the only one who would do it anyway. Let me know your opinion in the comments if you have one.
Meanwhile... I have been watching and listening (to) this all day.
The person who made the PMV did not make the song, you can find the song here:
And for those who like to be able to read along with the lyrics:
verse 1
[Screwball]
So there you are my Dad, a statue oh so cold so dead
You tore there world apart and ev'rypony lost their head
Now I must carry on making Chaos for you instead
'Cause you are my Daddy Discord and I am a piece of you!
verse 2
[Discord]
Please do not cry my dear your daddy is still very here
And when I do bust out we can respread the random fear
Our joy will be their pain as their world drowns in choc'late rain
'Cause I am your Daddy Discord and you are a piece of me!
verse 3
[Screwball]
Remember that one time you took me to that baseball game?
I got my Cutie mark...
[Discord]
...and things were never quite the same.
[Together]
My wild pitches flew driving the ponies all insane
'Cause You are My Daddy Discord and I am a piece of You!
bridge
Take me out to your mind game!
If Chaos loses it's a real shame!
SCREWBALL!!!
verse 4
[Discord]
Oh simple spawn of mine without you I would be so lost
You have stuck by my side...
[Screwball]
...No matter what the tragic cost.
[Together]
Your crazed imagined [Gods?] have given me a new found strength.
'Cause You are my Daughter Screwball and I'm breaking out of here!
Finale
[Discord]
I'm free, free once again! May Equestria return to its natural chaotic state!
Come My Little Abomination, we have work to do!
[Screwball]
I missed you daddy...

Firstly, if you had not yet had the opportunity to review today's mission report (I.e., watch today's episode) then do not read, I repeat, DO NOT READ ON. Can I be any clearer? *Coughs*
My fellow bronies... Today... Today marks one of the greatest moment in brony history. If you have seen the latest mission report you will no doubt be aware of what I am talking about. Our army, our community if you will, may very well have caused an unprecedented event in animation history. If not that, then we have accomplished something exceedingly rare. One single brony, so many, many months ago, noticed a character in the very first mission report at the very beginning of our efforts. A character who, after being pointed out, was readily embraced by the community. A character who was then embraced just as much by our benefactors, the very people who sustain us with the sustenance we need to keep our efforts going.
And today... today we saw that very same character come to full bloom, in all her glory, in the middle of this weeks mission. She was holding nothing back. No more covert ops, no more stealth... No, full on in your face I-am-here-to-stay glorious combat. We did this. We, as a community, caused this to happen. Whether you have been with us from the very first mission or only joined us 5 minutes ago, be proud. Today may have been a unique never-before-seen event, or something that has almost never been seen before. Regardless, we made it happen. Princess Celestia herself is here to bestow each and everyone of you with the highest honour in our community, the Friendship Medal. So, line up, and take a moment to realize how special this is, how rare if not unique, and how awesome its is that we, as a community, are not only part of it, but the cause of it.
And also be sure to spend some thought on how much we owe to our benefactors, The Hub and Hasbro. How they keep providing for us in unique and awesome ways. How they keep letting us know that we, as a community, are appreciated. Today was without a doubt the best thing they have ever done for us, other then giving us what keeps us together in the first place. And personally, I feel that today also marks the best non-charity related thing our community has ever achieved.
I love this community, I love everyone who partakes in it from the creators to the fans and I hope that we may continue our efforts for a long time to come. As things are, this looks very promising indeed. My fellow bronies, today we saw history being made. *Salutes*

New assignment.

Posted 14 years agoIt has been decided by high command that Princess Luna will receive the highest military honour for going above and beyond the call of duty in her mission of providing us with high quality entertainment. For those of you who have been given access to the details of her mission, feel free to discuss below. For those of you who have as of yet been unable to read the mission report, it is advised that you wait until you have been able to do so. Otherwise you might gain intel about her mission before it is wanted which might "spoil" the experience. The debriefing room will be open indefinitely.
(Just in case I wasn't clear: Beware the comments, there might be spoilers for episode 4.)
