Well, it's that time of year again. Time to reflect on the year that is 2K9. Where to begin?


Well to start off the year, my old truck, The Crimson Vixen (for those that don't know, it was a 1993 Ford Ranger STX Supercab) had finally done its time and was ready to be scrapped for something new. This started a mass hunt for a much better and stronger vehicle which often led to a number of dead ends, primarily in the loan department. Then in February I got lucky and was able to acquire my new vehicle, the Violet Vixen (and for those that don't know, it's a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser). So far I've had little to no problems with the Violet Vixen other than a few battery problems. Um, also back in January I secured my spot at work permanently as I was granted a full time position at work. Without the full time job, paying for the Violet Vixen would be next to impossible when you consider my part time checks were about $200 to $250 less than my full time checks. So that was a good development that happened. While rearranging one of them, I did manage to complete my tasks that I set up at the beginning of the year.

Task 1: Get the hell out of my parents' house...Completed in May (well, technically it was April but I didn't get to move in until the 1st of May, but you get the idea)

Task 2: Keep the truck in good shape...This one, as you just read, had to be rearranged to "acquire new vehicle" but it still got done.

Task 3: Travel around more. This one I kind of got around to. Aside from visiting Anime St. Louis, which I go to every year, I did manage to attend my first con out of AStL, A(nime)Cen(tral) in Chicagoland. I got to see my friend Eva again and I haven't seen her in years, so it was a nice refreshing thing. Still, that was the only one I got around to. Due to financial mishaps back in August and September, my plans for attending more cons this year got thrown in the wastebasket, so that was a disappointment. Hopefully next year that won't happen, and aside from Anime cons, I'll actually be able to meet other LJ friends if they'll have me as a guest.

Task 4: Upgrade my TV to a 32" LCD HDTV...This one was kind of a low priority/wishful thinking task that wasn't really necessary to complete, but I did manage to complete anyway just this month when I bought myself a new 32" 1080p LCD HDTV thanks to some money I came into that I didn't think I had. So that was good. I been rejoicing in playing my PlayStation 3 (and my newly acquired "Deathbox 360") in HD once again...the way they should be played.


Now in last year's Retrospect, I had a really bad falling out on how emotionally draining 2K8 was to me. This year...I have absolutely nothing to say about it. See this is the year where I fully just stopped giving a shit about all the things and emotions I had back in 2K8...love, relationships, women in general...I pretty much just said "no more, I'm done" and just left it at that. I just took my heart, threw it in the dumpster, and set the dumpster on fire. I was done with it, and pretty much I am now. So far, it's done a pretty good job keeping me alive and sane throughout the year, and that's really all I need.


So as for next year, 2K10...what are my plans and goals? To be honest, I have no plans or goals for 2K10. All I want to do is just survive it. Nothing more. If there's one thing 2K9 has taught me is that all I really need to do is just survive in order to get by, so if that the necessity I need, then I'll do what the necessity calls for me to do.

My school semester is well under way. I'm not sure at the moment, but maybe I will try to get some of my school projects up here, but I should warn you all. These two art classes I'm taking are the basic of the basics, so not a lot will be like nothing special or however you want to refer to it. One project of mine is now up on the Art wall at my school, but all it was was a contour line tracing project in which we had to take a photograph of our choice, trace it using tracing paper and a pencil and ink it using a micron pen. Like I said, nothing special, but the focus was on contour lining so there was a purpose behind it. Alright, 2K9. What are my plans for this year?

First thing is I'm getting out of this house! This house is like the bulk of my unhappiness and the longer I stay here, the more I lose it. So, that's a definite goal of mine.

Second, keep my truck in good shape. Vixey goes in for her tune-up tomorrow, and that should at least fix half of my problems with her. We'll see about the other half as the year progresses.

Third, I would like to travel around more. If there are people on LJ, DA, or wherever have you that would like to take the chance to meet me, I'd like to meet them, too. I promise, I'm not as homicidal/suicidal/genocidal as I might seem to be on LiveJournal. I'm a lot calmer when I'm around people I do like. Maybe some of us can get together and I can torture you all with my big black shiny box I call my PlayStation 3.

Fourth, I want to upgrade my TV to an 32" LCD HDTV. Luckily for me, prices for some of them have dropped to below $400 (minus taxes, of course), so of course that makes it a little easier to afford one. If nothing comes about when I get my tax return, maybe I'll use that to get mine, finally. I'm getting tired of playing on my PS3 using Standard Definition. Trust me, it sucks.

New Years Eve, 2K8 is today. So, that could only mean one thing...it's time for my annual Retrospect post.

No surprise that the beginning of 2K8 was not a good time of the year for me. I was out of work for a month and a half, and really feeling pretty crappy. I managed to find work for the most part in Hertz, which still didn't help me too well, but was income none-the-less. The next few months didn't get any better. I was in school and working all the time. Come July, I manged to land my current job with the City of Richmond Heights, which has so far helped me a great deal while giving me something new and exciting to do. Still, one of my goals was not achieved this year, and that was to get my own apartment due to a number of road blocks in my way like the threat of me having to leave to find full time work. I'm going to hopefully try for that in the next couple of months considering I do go full time with Richmond Heights which is a definite possibility. So as far as productivity goes, this year was good, and hopefully will continue next year.

I have to say that emotionally, this was a really bad year for me. This year really messed with my head and my heart in some of the worst possible ways, and it's something that I really do not want to get into right now. All I can say is that I have lost a lot of faith in some of my old beliefs, like love and what not, and it doesn't seem like I'll be gaining it back anytime soon. My nihilistic side has arisen, and as of now, it is definitely hear to stay. I really don't like that, but that's the way it has to be.

Right now, I have absolutely no hopes or expectations for 2K9, except for the fact that I want to get out of my current living situation and stay out of it, and that's something I intend to do within the next few months if it literally kills me. Other than that, I just want to get next year over with just as fast as I want to get this one over with. After all that's happened to me this year, I sincerely doubt that 2K9 is going to be any better for me, but to try to keep a tiny bit of optimism, we'll see. Honestly, though, I don't really care. If there is one thing this year has taught me to do, it's to stop caring in general.

As you can see, more unhappiness than happiness. Thank you 2K8 for being so crappy to me.

You know, I'm starting to think taking up my Psychology class was a really good idea, especially the Black Emphasis part. Today in class we were talking about the general life span of an African American individual, and there were a lot of points brought up in class that I found really interesting. The fact that in the textbook for the class, it mentions a lot about how Af-Am males have it so much harder than any other individual. I look at that and see it so true and some of it not true from my perspective. As per our instructor, Mr. Munson, there are a lot of reasons why this is, but the big one for me was culture. Now as some of you may very well know, I pretty much brought myself up generally outside my culture. Why? Simply because there was so much that I didn't like about my culture, and what a lot of males within my culture were doing. I just saw that it brought about bad news, and what I ended up doing was trying to associate myself with other cultures besides my own, and that ended up with me getting a feel of how those cultures were and come to understand those people better. Now I'm not just talking about African American culture. I'm also talking about midwestern US culture as well, and this is pretty much the reason why I have such a strong disliking for the midwest. Those that were brought up here, compared to those brought up along the east, west, north, and in some parts of the south, just plain have no culture. Everyone wants to be very inclusive within their own group. The blacks always want to be with the blacks; the whites always want to be with the whites; the Asians always want to be with the Asians, the Hispanics always want to be with the Hispanics...this list goes on. Now I know this may be hard for some of you to believe, but take it from me, an ex-trucker, I've been up and down the midwest to see a lot of it for myself. I strongly believe what I say is especially true for the state of Missouri, which is also another reason why I strongly dislike people from this state (especially females...also explaining why my attraction for females, in general as well, is all but gone), save for the few friends that I have that are here. Being born and raised here, all my life, I've seen this before, in all corners of this state, and it is also evidenced in my parents, especially my step-mom (who is practically the most culturally challenged person on the planet).

For those reasons stated, this is why I try to induce a lot of culture within myself, and why I distance myself a lot from my own. From what I've learned, society has done quite a bit to my culture to make us seem like insignificant people in some way or another. I think through my experiences, I've kind of proved some aspects of society wrong. From my own perspective, I have a lot of different experiences that I put myself through in order to make myself a more functional person within this society we live in. I have a combined two years in retail, I've tried my hand with the military (didn't make it, but I at least tried), I've driven close to over 80,000 miles in an 18-wheeler, and even now, I'm working in urban forestry, commercial gardening and landscaping, and forestry grounds maintenance. These were things that even I thought were impossible for me to achieve nearly seven years ago. This kind of thing affects the way those of my culture think because you would think that someone of my race and culture would not be able to do them. But I've done them, because I've set out to at least try. Some things worked, some things didn't, but I for one can't say I didn't try. Maybe that's something that I want to get across to my culture...to not be fearful of other cultures and to society. I don't know if I'm doing a good job of that, but at least I'm trying. That's all I can say.

Hello, my name is Alpheus! I smell like cut grass and have to sneeze all the time. Heh, heh, heh.

Okay, you can probably tell, but I've been mowing grass all day at work again. Tim's been having me on the mow crew for the past one and a half weeks. That means riding the ZTR mower, and weed eating as well, and having to do it all day, the eaten weeds tend to stick to the bottom of your pants. Gives you the screaming sneezes day, and sometimes I like to go to school right after work. Kind of distracting when I have to sneeze during class. That's why I decided to come home today so I can change out. After I finish this post, I'm taking a shower.

Out of shear and utter curiosity, I decided to check the inbox of my old email address at NetZero just to see if it was still active (because I originally thought once you discontinue your service with one ISP, your email address goes down with it). For those that don't know, I discontinued my NetZero address when I discontinued my NetZero service, and I used my NetZero address to associate myself with all the dating sites I used to be apart of. Out of my amazement, I found out that not only was it still active, but I had gotten several emails in that inbox of girls that claim they were from those dating sites. I read a few of them, and they did look legit, asking me why I left the sites and what not. I find it very amusing that since I've sworn off women and dating indefinitely (for the time being) that I still get plagued on like this. I'm not complaining or whining about this or anything. I'm just finding it very amusing...so amusing in fact that I couldn't help but laugh at it. Needless to say I emptied that inbox and have put in a request to NetZero to get that email address turned off.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day in Psychology class. Mr. Munson is going to have us delve into the psychology of African Americans. Maybe later I'll tell of how that goes, but I'll say this. Mr. Munson gave us the first fifteen pages of the Af-Am Psychology book to read, and so far it's rather interesting, explaining about how Af-Am Psychology first came about and how many psychologists have tried to induce racism in some way or another into Af-Am psychology. Now I'm actually interested in seeing how this will play into his lecture tomorrow. This should be good.
