Short-Faced Head pattern for NorthSound Anthro Plush Out Now
Posted 15 years agoI am very happy to announce that
NorthSound now has the short-faced head pattern out now!
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5205403
It is a generic shape that will make MANY different possible creatures depending on how it is finished with eyes, nose, ears, etc. Some of the creatures it would be a good fit for would be a housecat, big cat, otter, skunk, puppy or many other critters!
The next direction we're likely going to go is for a narrow faced pattern for creatures with a really pointy nose and a female Anthro body pattern.
Also, I've been working on a Matrices plush right now that has the female body proportions (even boobs, they're not big ones though!) The female pattern is a little more complicated, however, since it makes the body 4 pieces and needs to have one dart to complete the chest.
I hope you are all looking forward to what
NorthSound comes up with! Very soon we will have an auction for one custom collaborative plush. We will release the Auction link soon and it will be announced all over, Keep an eye out for it!

Posted 15 years agoToday is Turbo's Adoptiversary! We have had him 2 years today!
We're celebrating it as his dog birthday. I love that stupid dog, he is so fun to own. He's really turned into a well trained GOOD dog, compared to when we first brought him home. I am constantly thinking of different ways to train him to do new fun clever tricks, and love to bring him with me everywhere.
Over time he has became the dog I have always wanted, trainable, good with other dogs, take anywhere, best dog. I am still working on stuff with him, by all means his training is not over (i still would like to get him a CGC certificate) and I still need to work with him on small animal drive.
Our biggest acomplishment with him is his recall. We can call him from all the way across Patmore Pit, which is the largest of the offleash parks we go to (about 20 acres I believe?) .. call him away from other dogs and people from the woods, just by saying his name .. once! I don't know if you guys are dog people, but that's AMAZING for a Husky.
Happy dog birthday, Turbo!! As much as the neighbor kid wants to trade dogs, you've found your forever home with us! I am so grateful of the time spent towards training, it has PAID OFF.

I'm going to FC, will I meet you there? (I hope so!)
Posted 15 years agoOk everyone! I am totally excited about FC and am looking forward to it a lot!
I really hope I can meet a lot of folks I haven't met yet, and meet up again with the folks I've met before!
If you're interested in meeting up, I am on Twitter as @RaisedbyDogs and that will be the totally best way to get a hold of me during the con!
I really hope I can complete my newest fursuit project in time! I am taking extra vacation time before the con to make sure I get it done in time, so hopefully you will see my COOL new fursuit!!
ALSO here's a link to the FC MEME for the info/dates/time/who I'll be with, etcetc Obviously will be with
NorthSound plus other cool people. :3
IF you have not met me before, I am female, 5'5 and I look like this EXCEPT my hair pretty much looks like one of the hairstyles in Animal Crossing. I may also be wearing a fairly distinctive green and black hat (seen in this video).
If you have not heard my name pronounced before it is "may-truh-seas" though if you must, my real name is Sara. :3
Also, don't forget! Bringing any flavor of Beef Jerky to me in or out of suit will earn you a hug. :D
Will I see you there?? I hope so!

Cartoon Drawing Commission by Matrices up for Auction!
Posted 15 years agoWoo, made an auction on Furbid for a drawing commission. I hope folks are interested!
http://www.furbid.ws/cgi-bin/auctio.....item=232357709
I made it a week long auction, ends next Monday around 10 pm pacific time! (I have noooo idea what time zone the FurBid servers are on. ??)
I'm sooooo curious how it will do. If you enjoy my art and always wanted a picture done by me, this is a good time! I don't do commissions very often, so I hope you consider it!

FREE Anthro Plush Pattern!!! Where to find it!!
Posted 15 years ago
Klickitat and I have released our Anthropomorphic Plushie Pattern Free! This pattern will create a 25-inch plushie with anthropomorphic-style proportions. For now it is a Canine, we plan on releasing OTHER ANIMALS, different tails, legs, shapes, ears, etc later (as time permits). Visit http://www.furaffinity.net/user/northsound for a preview of the pattern pieces!! For full instructions and all pages in one .pdf to download, you will be able to find it here:
ZIP file of the PDF: http://www.matrices.net/NorthSound/.....hropattern.zip
or here
PDF: http://www.matrices.net/NorthSound/.....hropattern.pdf
There is a moderate to advanced skill level required to create this pattern, and it is not intended for beginners. If you have made a fullsuit before you should be able to put one of these guys together!
IMPORTANT We have released the complete pattern for free, so please do not use it to make plushies for profit! This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
Thanks everyone! Enjoy this pattern! We want to see you at FC with your plushies! We'd love to do a photoshoot together! Please send a SHOUT to
NorthSound photos of your plushies made with this pattern as well! We also want to encourage you to innovate and share your own additions to this pattern as well (please refer to the CC License, it is important when using our pattern!). Have an awesome day, guys!! We'd love to hear your feedback, too! :D
Updates, projects and upcoming plans!
Posted 15 years agoIts not often I write in this thing just to write, so I thought I'd share some info on my upcoming plans and projects!
I'll be attending FC this year! Going down early with my best friends & will be staying a few days before & after the con. I'm pretty excited!
For FC I'll have a "new suit" that I'm making & plan on debuting at the Masquerade. If you watch my Twitter, you probably already know who it is!
http://twitter.com/RaisedbyDogs
I also have been streaming progress of my projects around 8pm pacific on days announced in twitter.
http://livestream.com/matrices
I have an AWESOME new partial realistic Coyote costume that will also be at FC, thanks to my awesome trade with
Temperance. Her name is Chelan! (Pronounced 'she lan')
I'm hoping to have a very special project completed soon. It may revolutionize how easy things can be to become a beginner fursuit maker. It will be, for once, something that I will sell. Its a pattern that will have illustrated instructions.
Exciting times!

Feeling for Fursuit Makers willing to trade for Cathlamet.
Posted 15 years agoOk guys. Since I brought Cathlamet to Rainfurrest and sadly DID NOT WEAR HER ONCE, this means its time she needs to go out to a new home.
BUT FIRST... I want to put some feelers out BEFORE going in sell-mode, I'm heavily considering setting her up as a fursuit trade. If you are a fursuit maker and want to do a trade for a non-padded static-jaw-ok fullsuit of some creature (maybe this guy) for Cathlamet, think about it & show me what you've got that you've made before.
About Cathlamet:
http://www.matrices.net/cathlamet.asp
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1806162/
She is a wolf, made from all-foam head construction. She was made in 2008 and has been worn infrequently. Bodysuit is made of a combo of high quality Distinctive Fabric fur, and a medium-quality grey fur. I have a small piece of the grey that can go with. Plus a pretty bandanna accessory. The head is very light, and I will be adding in a new non-balaclava liner inside the head for its new owner. Also, the footpaws and handpaws I will be making brand new to fit the new owner, and we can discuss how you'd like them to be. All padding is seperate pillow-style. And most of her construction is detailed on my website, http://www.matrices.net
Shipment will take place after the traded product is completed. If we agree upon the trade, you would be welcome to keep Cathlamet as a character, or re-name her as a new one.
About me, so you know how she'll fit:
I'm 5'5" female, 180lbs, and she's very form fitting around the shoulders. My head is 23 inches.
Feel free to comment or email, sara[at]matrices.net
Pass this on to others who are fursuit makers who have some pictures of their work they can share with me.
Cross posted a few places-- so I apologise for the repetition.

Back from Rainfurrest
Posted 15 years agoSo Rainfurrest was a freakin' BLAST.
I can't talk enough about how much fun I had at that convention. I thought the zombie-themed Rainfurrest was best, but oh man. This year was complete and totally the most fun. They really did a great job with a challenging theme. Did you guys see all those nixie tube prop things in the hall and the registration area? Wtf man, those were cool!
I think the best part that was put on by the convention was definitely the Opening Ceremonies. The rest was fun, too. My other favorite was of course the people I love to hang out with at these cons. North Sound hive (our adjoing room) was amazing. And pushing the beds together was the silliest best idea.
A little sad I didn't fursuit as much as I "normally" do at conventions(in other words I wasn't in-suit the whole time), but it did give me the opportunity to host some panels, meet people I haven't met before, and get to know some other people I really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know.
Best stories come from these events. Including hilariously ruining a few common phrases, such as "full from earlier" and any references to a certain kind of milk.
I was kind of on the fence about going to FC, but I really think I am going to make it a point to go again this year. I can't miss out on this type of fun again.

Gunna be at at Rainfurrest! How about you?
Posted 15 years agoHeyyyyyyy
Matrices, here! I'm doing a few panels and generally going to attempt to have an awesome time at this year's Rainfurrest.
I'll be bringing my fursuits with me. Beef Jerky, Fizz and Cathlamet
I'm going to be helping out with three panels at this year's Rainfurrest, and I just wanted to make sure to let everyone know they're invited!
My first panel that I am hosting alongside with my good buddy
Klickitat, is a very awesome "Props for your Fursuit" panel on 4pm Friday.
Be sure to join me as well for the "Fursuiter Meet & Greet" that I am hosting on Saturday at 1pm in the Hangar. It is requested that no photos/videos be taken during this panel however, since its all about meeting everyone in person!!
On the final day I will be helping out with the "Taking Care of your Fursuit" panel at 3pm.
I have informational handouts prepared for the "Props" and "Taking care of your Fursuit" panels, so stop by the panels on time to be sure to get a copy of the handout. If you aren't going to make it to Rainfurrest, or if you miss out on the panels I am involved in, you will be able to find the information from the handouts I have produced on my website, http://www.matrices.net after the event.
I am really looking forward to meeting all of you! Don't be shy. Say "HI" if you see me.
See you there!

Newspaper Dog Photo Contest -- Vote for Turbo!
Posted 15 years agoSo there is this newspaper contest that I joined. It's the Dog Days of Summer Photo Contest for the Bellingham Herald.
I'd love it if you voted for Turbo! The contest has a One-Vote-Per-Day-Per-Household rule. Its not a huge prize, it's a gift card to an upscale pet store.
But chances are, we'll probably get printed in the newspaper if we get lots of votes, and that's exciting, too!! Besides, Turbo is the ONLY HUSKY ENTERED. For the love of huskies, you have to vote for Turbo. :3
Here's the link to the voting page:
http://bellinghamherald.upickem.net.....ontestid=18629
You DO have to register to vote, and can only vote ONCE per day.
We are on Page 4
My entry with Turbo is: Yay! The Ocean!
Link: http://tiny.cc/TurboEntry
Vote for us once a day, if you can! Thanks so much! <3

Awesome Dream Dog Park contest I entered (Please vote)
Posted 15 years agoI am so excited to share with you that my entry for the WagWorld DreamDogPark video contest entry is finally up on their page! That means My dog Turbo and I are in the running for a chance for a half million dollar makeover of Clover Valley Off Leash Area (the dog park I visit every day) if the Judges determine we should win!
This is the link to my video entry, with my 100 word essay.
http://dreamdogpark.wagworld.com/Vi.....testantid=1306
You can also get to it via http://www.benefuldreamdogpark.com
Select "View Entries" and we are currently on Page 6, with the entry icon of Turbo's husky face getting a drink from the water bowl.
Listed as: Sara Howard | Turbo
Oak Harbor, WA | June 18, 2010
I tried my best to show off, in a two minute video what I would do to improve our offleash park for my best friend, Turbo!
... Okay, so most of my ideas are really small, but if anything comes out of this contest it will be awesome, especially if we can get a grant to improve our park!
The entries are going to be reviewed by a panel of judges, that will vote on the criteria of:
The feasibility and creativity of the ideas (mine I have to admit aren't as creative as others, but they certainly have high feasibility.) and of my relationship with my dog which I hope I was able to show off in the short video. Hard to say how well I did in the two minute time constraint, but I hope I showed off just enough of everything!
There is also public voting, I believe you can register to their site and vote on the entries. The limit is one vote per person per day, I am not sure how to vote yet, but if you get a chance to ... please give us 5 paws! Part of the public voting rank will account for 10% of the final score and the judges scores will account for 90% of the total score. That 10% may make the difference! I really hope we succeed!

Chainmail bracelets and Caffeine soap? --- YES.
Posted 15 years agoMy two friends have some really awesome things they make, and I've had the pretty awesome opportunity to get two bracelets from Brighton and many many soaps from Maly. And since I never can say enough about how awesome the things they make are, I thought I'd share them with you guys.
Brighton makes really neat chainmail bracelets, the jewelry kind. They are really durable and he made two for me, one of which I posted about before, but I also have another that he made that I've worn since I first met him at AFF a few years ago. I can't say enough about how many cool comments I get when people notice the bracelets, they are really eye-catching, and he does a good job, its worth it.
You should check out his FA page to get one (or more!) from him: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/brighton/
My other friend Maly makes something you don't quite expect, but is just as awesome: Caffeine Soap! That's right, soap with caffeine. It smells really good, my favorites being the Lime and the Almond scents she has, and it really causes a caffienated effect after you use it! Its home-made soap that she mixes and scents herself, so its a really neat process (I got to help make a batch with her once). And I did the line-art for the packaging, so I gotta pimp out my work a bit, too ;3 (she colored it).
She has an etsy site here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/contactcaffeine
I know she goes to conventions sometimes, so you may also be able to find her to see about sample soaps she has to find out the different scents, but its really worth it to go ahead and get a big bar because I know you'll like it. :3
That's my cool things my friends do that I like that I had to share with you. :3

Fursuit video tutorials and you: What do you want to see?
Posted 15 years agoI've made a few recent tutorials on making specific aspects of fursuit building, the most recent two are:
How to Sculpt Fursuit Claws
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiQAbXYI_b4
and How to Attach a Fursuit Nose
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-YOGMSCmPo
I'm looking to expand my video tutorials and eventually update my site, http://www.matrices.net with them.
My question for you guys is this: From a beginner's point of view, what kind of tutorials would you like to see me make a video of? What part of my site would you like to see done in video format? And what perhaps, do you need help with that you think would benefit others in the form of a video?

Awesome bracelets by my friend Brighton
Posted 15 years agoMy friend
Brighton makes these super awesome massively glowy chainmail bracelets. He uses these neat rubber UV reactive/Glow in the dark links, that match with the aluminum links, and they are really skillfully put together.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3426214/
He did this one for me, and I have not taken it off (except for a few times for photos and for him to inspect it)
He also did another one of just aluminum links that I got from him a few years ago, also never have taken off, and it has worn beautifully. It doesn't glow, but is just as amazing.
I always get the most wonderful compliments on both of them, they certainly are unique and really nice to look at. Thank you Brighton!
So anyways: He does commissions for them! Contact him for a quote, and he'll make you something asolutely amazing that you will cherish for a long time (like I have), I promise.

Turbo's Adoptiversary! February 4th
Posted 16 years agoToday one year ago we brought home an amazing creature, his name was "Beau" but we later named him "Turbo" which was much more fitting. He's gained many nicknames since: Face, Dogface, creature, creetch, Dog-a-low, face-a-low, Dog-bo, Torbo, Turpo, Turp, and others.
He unfortunately had been to many different homes before us, including many different visits to the pound. We learned he was impounded for running away, later for chasing prized show sheep, and then later adopted by a man who had a cat and had no idea how to take care of dogs (let alone a breed such as a Husky), he lived with him 2 months. We found him free in the man's classified ad, and went to see him at 5pm.
He came home with us that day, and turned out to be a real handfull. Digging things, separation anxiety, many instinces of pooping the floor ... but later, after much time, effort, and training, became the best dog I ever had. He is a fast learner, and went from knowing "Sit" and "Down" (barely) to knowing perhaps 40 different commands for various behaviors and tricks. All in this past year.
This is one of the first pictures we took of him the day he came home with us:
http://pics.livejournal.com/matrices/pic/001e7315/
Now I am pretty sure he is the happiest dog ever.
He gets to go to the dog park on an almost-daily basis (6 days a week), and has many many dog friends. He's part of "the husky pack" at the dog park, which is a group of perhaps 9 other huskies that all come around 4-5:30pm, every day except Sundays.
For his adoption-day, we thought we'd celebrate by getting him the biggest rawhide we could find, as well as ice cream for dogs and a new squeeky ball.

Caffeine Soap available at FC!
Posted 16 years agoSo my way awesome friend, Maly is selling Caffeine soap for pick up at FC for $5 a bar. I LOVE HER SOAP!
If you have never had her soap you truly are missing out. Because it is caffeinated it is kind of awesome when you wash with it in the morning since it wakes you up while getting you clean at the same time. Sure coffee or other drinks taste good and might wake you up, but do they make you cleaner or smell good? Maly's soap does!
She's taking reservations for it at:
http://community.livejournal.com/fu.....on/521030.html
I highly recommend it! You don't want to miss out! (Tell her Matrices sent you!)

OH I ALMOST FORGOT (regarding FC)
Posted 16 years agoAt FC, bringing Beef Jerky some beef jerky will pretty much result in the best hug ever. Just sayin'.
So yup. See you guys at FC! :D
So yup. See you guys at FC! :D
Its almost FC! (I'll be going!)
Posted 16 years agoSo I am very excited about going to FC this year. I didn't go last year, and I was pretty sad I didn't. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, or who I'll hang out with, so I'm hoping I'll get to meet up with you, whoever-you-are-that's-going!
My plan is to fursuit lots. I don't know if I'll have time to draw. I want to also try to attend some panels.
I haven't been very active in the artwork or fursuit communities lately, but I want to fix that. And I'm not sure if its weird to have this as a resolution, but my New Years' resolution this year is to be more social. So FC is the best place to start getting back into the swing of things!
Hopefully I'll see you folks there!

Update on Cathlamet & (former) Mangle! (still taking offers)
Posted 16 years agoTo update everyone on Cathlamet and former Mangle:
I haven't made a decision on the buyers juuust yet. I have been getting lots of good offers from some really awesome people, and I'm waiting back on replies, and still making replies to other folks before I narrow things down.
On a secondary note, for those that e-mailed me asking what prices I've been offered so far: I'm not quite ready to release some of the amounts of the offers I've had yet. Mainly because I'm still fielding them, and I'm primarily looking for a good home for the costumes first. Certainly I don't want to undersell myself, but I also don't want to put anyone off from putting in an offer because someone else happened to offer a very high amount.
I believe I replied to each person who sent an email so far. If I missed you, please let me know! Or drop me your e-mail address here (or note me) and I will email you or reply back if I missed you!
I'm going to try to make a decision soon, so then I can feel out how much shipping could be for the buyers, and any other important details.
There's still time to email me if you are interested and haven't yet!

Two Fursuits I made up for sale (Cathlamet and Mangle)
Posted 16 years agoOut of my fursuits that I made and own, I posess two that I could put up for sale if there is enough serious interest. I want them to go to private buyers rather than just posting them on a public auction site (like ebay), mainly so I can choose the best offer, and hopefully get them to go to buyers who will take them out a lot, since I'd love to see pictures of them in their new homes.
The first one I have is Mangle, an Akita.
http://www.matrices.net/mangle.asp
Since Mangle is one of
malameux's characters we made up just to be his fursuit, Mike asked me to change Mangle's facial markings to be less like Mangle and make it become a new character for the buyer. Primarily less black on the face, and probably taking off the white on the top of his snout, and making his eyes friendlier. It will still be an Akita, but just not Mangle. I'd be able to work with the potential buyer on this, but I'm not going to be changing the foamwork too much.
Its an all-foam based head, unlined, non-moving jaw. Switch-on/off Velcro-in 9v-operated fan in the muzzle would be included. There's vents in the top of the head(out the ears) to help exhaust heat, and there's wire in the ears (they have some limited posability to help tweak their shape). The mask itself is very light for its size, the muzzle is hollow, and can mostly squish flat if it needs to be packed in a suitcase. Nose is rigid but very lightweight pulp-based clay. A neckpiece is attached to the mask, and would go over top of the bodysuit (rather than being tucked in)
Handpaws have canvas pads on them with lightweight claws. Feet are size 12, Mike wears 12's and reports that they have a little extra room, but not a lot, so they may be too small if you have larger than size 11 1/2 to 12 sized feet. They have canvas pads layered with rubbery protective coating, fur covers the remaining bottoms on the footpaws, and shows some light wear.
The bodysuit is in very good condition. The costume overall only saw a few outings, mainly fursuit parades at cons, and photo shoots. The tail is seperately attached to the outside of the bodysuit, there are small belt-holes to thread a belt through. Zipper-enterance is on the back of the costume with a pull-string attached. Its concealed by a flap with magnet closure. I've always helped Mike get in the costume (he's never really had the desire to fursuit by himself) so I wouldn't be able to report how easy it is to get into or out of since I've always been there to help him put it on. Though I can make a video of how to put it on to illustrate if needed. All the padding is seperate and not mounted to an undersuit or the bodysuit, it comes with stuffed knee padding, butt padding, and carved foam hock (heel) padding. The knee pads do have faces drawn on them, and have been nicknamed "the slugs" just since they're that shape. :3
Mike is 5'11" and has relatively wide shoulders, he's 170-180lbs, so the suit would fit someone around that size, too. We can get more specific measurements if there is a serious buyer. I have some small scraps of the brown (that I will primarily use to redo the markings on the head), and some scraps of the cream if the buyer needed to let it out, or add to the legs/sleeves.
The costume would not come with any tags, badges, spiked bracelets or Mangle art. Since those things are Mike's and if the costume sells, it will become a different character with the new owner. Though I'm not opposed to drawing the new owner a new badge to go with the new character. :3
The other costume I have is Cathlamet, a wolf.
http://www.matrices.net/cathlamet.asp
If there was any interest in Cathlamet she would come with a few badges, and even the couple of LJ icons that I have for her. Also a nekerchief, and some scrap grey fur, I have very little (or possibly none) of the other colors, though. But the cream on her legs and belly is is DF fur.
Her head is all-foam based. Its currently unlined, though I am considering lining it for this potential sale. She does not have a fan, but is a very lightweight mask, her entire muzzle is hollow so she breathes very well. You'd be able to squish it relatively flat in case you needed to fit it in a suitcase. Nose is rigid but very lightweight pulp-based clay. The mouth doesn't really move, but when some people have tried it on, they have been able to get it to move somewhat. She has vents out the top of her head, hidden in the ears. I have eyelashes I can put on her (she currently has her eyelashes removed for now).
The bodysuit has some wear, this costume is very form fitting on me, so some seams have been resewn. The grey fur isn't that high of quality, but grey fur is pretty much a challenging color to find fur fabric of, so I took what I could get. Like mentioned above, I do have scraps of the grey, but it shows seams. The neck has a magnet closure.
Her legs have "loose" padding, and so she'll come with knee "slugs" and hock pads, both stuffed. With an attached tail that has a squeaker in the tip, and back zip-up closure. The zipper is not hidden, though. There's some repairs done on her tail from getting in and out of cars and it accidentaly got snagged. I have been able to put this costume on myself before. Though I have usually asked to have someone tuck in the handpaws or zip up the back the rest of the way before.
I am 5'5" and weigh around 180 lbs, so the costume should fit someone the same size or smaller than me, most of my weight distribution is in my thighs and hips, so I didn't add any extra butt padding on the costume since I *cough* don't need it. I don't remember how big my bra size is, I almost always wear a sports bra. But the chest of the costume is formed to fit a female body.
Her handpaws have canvas pawpads, and they have hard Sculpy claws, so they click really nice against stuff. Her feetpaws have wear, but I am willing to fix this up before they go to the new buyer. The paw pads are currently duck cloth canvas. And the paws were built on (I thiiink) a Ladies size 11 slip-on shoe.
Both costumes have Always been worn with UnderArmor underclothes. And have been kept clean, maintained, and brushed out. They are kept in a room Turbo (my dog) is not allowed.
Please e-mail me if you have an offer or are interested. Then we can discuss things further. My e-mail address is sara at matrices.net

Rainfurrest!!!
Posted 16 years agoHEY GUYS. So Rainfurrest is happening this month, and I'M GOING.
I hope to meet people there! Because... seriously, its going to be way fun.
I'll have a new costume character with me, and I'll be up for lots of hanging out (at least if you're cool ;3)
I'm totally going to try to be in-costume lots. And perhaps be in the mood to draw.
I'm hoping to see people there, since I am SO looking forward to it!
