Hand and Commission Updates
Posted 9 years agoHey!
So on some recommendations I took another week off work with my hand in a brace. It was a lot of netflix, being generally upset and sluggish, and trying to play games with one hand.
So I made it through! After some fiddling, I found it was likely my mouse that was the main culprit. I've been able to draw for a couple hours at a time now, but wasn't able to touch my mouse without pain for more than 2 minutes. I have since replaced the mouse and the new one doesn't hurt me. Sad because I liked the old one, but I think I like this one more, and it mroe resembles the grip style my other mouse of 4 years (and no pain) had. I've only had the other for a couple months.
Anywho! This means back to more commissions, slowly, so I don't hurt anything. Hopefully you should see some updates soon n_n
I'm told my hand will likely take another 2 months to fully heal, but I'm at the point where using it is important for the tendons to properly repair themselves. Now it usually feels tired, instead of in pain. So, onto covering my bills for this next month!
My new chair is supposed to come today, which should also assist in my posture. My one at college was great, but this old piece of junk hurts my back.
Thanks to all my patient commissioners through this whole broken tablet messed up hand scenario, it's been very unfortunate and depressing, and your kindness has been a big help. :>

Hand / Wrist pain
Posted 9 years agoWelp! So much for the week off, it's back to hurting on both my mouse and my pen. Drumming doesn't seem to bother it, but eating popcorn does. Still trying to make sense of that one.
Anyways, Ordered some fancy braces and finger exercise stuff out of necessity because I 100% have to keep working, even if it's just a little bit. bills are looming awfully fast here. The one brace I got should keep my hand mostly immobile most of the time, and the other should support it while I'm drawing. The pain isn't awful, but it's enough to be distracting, and it just gets worse the longer I use it. We're most likely looking at tendonitis given the circumstances and symptoms, though I wouldn't rule out carpal tunnel. Arthritis seems unlikely since the pain started as, and is mostly, the muscles running up the back of my hand and into the forearm. I am also researching into doctors in my area if need be.
So while I would say for my commissioners to expect slow progress, I've got like 2 weeks to make 350 bucks since I've been short on my bill money this month. So it's begrudgingly crunch time.

Here's what things are looking like right now; somehow made a big mess and traffic backup with a few factors. I would like to get this all under tabs as quickly as I can manage; unfortunately got myself wedged in a hard spot with it.
Here's the current battle plan;
1. I need to make another 300-ish bucks within the next 2 weeks, so as much as I want to get the people who've been waiting a while AND Paid (Bless them, they've been so patient. Their money helped pay for my newer PC in the first place) I really need some quick monies for my loans so I don't default. I should be able to knock out some of the unpaid projects this week to secure the payments I need;
2. Afterwards, start crunching out the back up, get everything all nice and running smoothly again.
Kinda new to this trello thing, but I really like it so far
anywho, thanks for reading!

Updates; Cintiq is fixed + Fulltime Artist
Posted 9 years agoHey all!
My main machine is all fixed and working! after months of skipping around workstations, I think I've finally got everything all settled. It was a nightmare. My old Laptop took a dive, my Newer PC build ended up having faulty parts, and my cintiq companion fizzled out and had to be sent off to Wacom. This all happened -AT THE SAME TIME-
ANYWHO, EVERYTHING is all fixed now and that means back to work! In a few days, since I strained my hand working 16 hours straight on a deadline.. Whoops. Or more. I strained my hand and then continued to work 16 hours straight to meet the deadline.(dumbass) It's fairly unhappy, but improving. Going to give it a couple days. If someone wants a left hand commission like I posted up the other day, I can TRY lol.
"Wait, you have 3 computers? you must be-" NOPE, poor as balls, which brings me to my next point:
-
More important than this; I am -officially and openly- entering fulltime artist status. I have been for sometime, kinda. But it was like a half summer vacation for me while I sorted my shit out. I kinda sorted it, but it appears I'm going to have to work through it, both because I could use the momentum and attention, and also because my student loans among other expenses are about to start drop kicking my ass into last tuesday, which would be really nice because then I'd have another week to come up with more money.
What does this mean?
1. Commission Status Trello, this has been a requested feature from a couple commissioners that I am working on implementing. Not only will it show furry commission status, but it will also mention if I have any freelance concept art jobs at the time.
2. More activity and art posted; More commission slots and offers. More stylistic experimentation
3. Finish up previously commissioned pieces. I hate to admit that there's a backup right now, but with my machines offing themselves at the same time and some mental health problems, I had to significantly slow down on work, and some people haven't seen updates in a long time, whereas others with smaller projects have gotten tended to. There are those (Just two) who have paid in advance for a project. I've crunched some numbers and I won't be able to get around to both of those people completely before I'll need more income, so I'll try to get updates out to them soon, but the finish will have to wait until I work up the currently 370 bucks I still need to make my loan payments this month. But after I get everything all sorted I would like to keep the business side of things more stable so I'm not scrambling everywhere and a pain to work with. :>

I have a couple questions for you guys, I'd like to hear your feedback;
1. Using FA and Journals as a sort of personal blog? I've always wanted to be a little more candid with the internet and have a safe space. I'm not sure if FA is it since it also happens to be my main source of income right now. What do you think? I have a Rejection Sensitivity problem as part of a disorder and I'm -usually- fairly internally worried about what certain people, mostly people I don't really know or look up to, think of me. So on one hand it could go really well for combatting that if I make posts and get a lot of good feedback. On the flipside it could really backpedal me if everyone realizes I'm an asshole and I get my hand bitten a couple times.
2. I'm considering being more transparent with my finances. As in, having a bar showing progress on my student loans and how much are left, showing what my expenses look like, etc. I'm not sure if that's helpful to commissioners or just looks weird.
thanks for reading all of this! I should be back to working soon.

For those who need a pick-me-up today

One of my most beloved creative mentors released this podcast this morning for those stuggling with with the election results. I really needed to hear this this morning, and he reflected my feelings perfectly. If you're having a little trouble or are afraid, for yourself or your friends, and especially if you're a creative or an artist, you could benefit from what he has to say. We all could.
Stay safe out there everybody. It does suck, but now we have to make the most of this in any way we can. If anyone needs someone to talk to or feels unsafe, you can shoot me a note and I'll do what I can to help out. I'm especially concerned for the feelings of all my minority friends out there.
Remember! Even if you're mad, no one's mind is ever changed by an angry voice. Only compassion for our enemies will mend the great divide the USA has seen this election season, and we desperately need it. Name calling and picking eachother apart will only separate us further into separate belief sets. Now is the time for love, even if it's damned hard.
